The cafe is so cute inside! The staff was so friendly and talkative it was fun to be there. The quiche was scrumptious but the wedges with garlic mayo hello give me 10 orders to please - so nummy! We went for breakfast. Service was great, everything was explained. Very good first cup of coffee. I chose make your own omelet. One of us ordered the potato's and the other the whole wheat toast. Amazingly they offered two types of toast, we chose the rustic one. The omelets came and we're well prepared. We were not rushed and had a relaxing breakfast with serve your own refills on coffee. I had Chai Tea and one of their chicken sandwiches, and a small bowl of fruit. They have good tea and drinks here, and the food was alright. If coming here I'd recommend the coffee/tea options only. My only concern is that the prices here are very high for the food options, hence why I'd stick to the drink menu first. Otherwise it is a nice local eatery to visit. read more

What a great find off the Interstate and a much better alternative to Perkins or chain-type eateries. Home made soup, really unique salad and sandwiches and (ready for this one?) cup cakes scooped out and filled with mousse. They're known for their quiche but did not try it. Nice here with food and drink varieties. I'm trying the house made cheesecake. Has strawberries on top that I'd rather not, but is very good. Other muffins and coffee drinks also here. The food was just...OK. The waitress/owner seemed more pre-occupied on something else rather than waiting on us. We went in, waited our turn, but she just ignored us, like she was in her own little world. We were finally able to order. Food was just...OK. We took home our muffins, but they got "hard as a rock"...quick. Fortunately, I just had my Ginsu Knife...sharpened. Kind of got a bad vibe like...If she didn't like you, you simply got "reduced" service. Some have told me she owns the place; others have said she doesn't; that family does and she just works there. No biggie, either way. A Dale Carnegie course should be in order for her; people skills are "selective" & they suck. read more

I took my family here to order some takeout so we could go to a park to eat. Upon entering the establishment, it was clearly seen it is well kept. We were standing at the counter where my 3 year old daughter was admiring some treats in a glass case. The owner/employee working was with another group and hollered at my daughter to not touch the glass. We waited a bit after were ready to order and sat on the bench seat near the counter, where behind the bench seats were framed paintings. My wife told my daughter to sit still because the paintings weren't mounted. My daughter was getting situated when the same employee told her "you need to sit down on your butt, the paintings will fall." It is not shop owner's responsibility or right to speak to my kids in that way. Very rude. As a first time customer we wanted to give the benefit of the doubt because we really wanted to try the food here. The counter service was also sub par. There is no kids menu and when we asked for a take home menu, we got the same response as we did in the spring when looking for a caterer: "we only have these few menus and a new menu is coming out soon." Needless to say, we did not have them cater an event for us. Our food was tossed on the counter with a "here ya go" and the lady marched back to the kitchen. The food was excellent but the service was very poor. I will not take my family here again. I won't speculate but it is hard not to feel like children or those who don't fit the mold aren't welcome in this place. I would not recommend to family or friends at this point. read more

We have had breakfast here several times. We very much liked the Quiche, but pricy for quiche. The chicken salad was good, sort of strange served on toast, is it a salad or sandwich? They have a bakery full of delights made daily. The service is very good. There is one person working all the tables, but she is fast, and friendly. If it is really crowded, a little patience is needed, but the food is worth the wait. It is a family business, so they care about their food and their customers. You won't find any servers chatting in a corner or on their cell phones here! read more

Yelp is an excellent way to promote businesses & help families find a nice place to eat. Unfortunately a family came in today to 29 South & because they sat at an already reserved table & we had to explain to them that we couldn't serve them there the oldest woman preceded to call me a bitch. We've been here 14 years & she made an absolute fool of herself in here. If she would've taken the time to communicate w/ me we could have accommodated her but she stormed out while everyone laughed. Sometimes businesses need to stick up for themselves when customers verbally assault the workers. We hope she doesnt return because she doesn't qualify for the kind people weve been serving for well over a decade. read more

My chicken sandwich was wonderful. I bought 3 muffins and 3 cookies to go home with. Before leaving while paying my bill I did not get my receipt. When I asked for it, the waitress swore she gave it to me. I searched my pockets and nothing. The lady kept arguing with me about it. I finally said to her fine, forget it. As I started to walk away she said "if you desperately need one, I'll give u one." At that point I was extremely annoyed. I could hear her talking about me as I was walking out. So, a few hours later I wanted a muffin. It was rock hard, all of them were rock hard. I called them immediately and left a message. No return call, so I call again next day and leave another message. My chicken sandwich and potatoes were very good. But the hard muffins and especially the poor service has made my review. I would not recommend this cafe mostly because of the service. Besides that she was closing a lil after 1 but they don't close til 2. I also felt like my small requests I had (before the receipt issue) were poorly received. I do not like giving small businesses a bad review but I feel it's necessary. After enjoying breakfast here with a friend, I am shocked at the reviews here! We had an awesome time. The establishment is quaint, clean, and cozy. It's definitely got a home town feel inside. The service was patient (we couldn't decide what we wanted) and friendly. The food and coffee were super tasty. I had the bagel with lox and if was super fresh and delicious. Our first visit and we will be back! We had the place to ourselves for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Our server was very friendly and explained we could grab a cup and help ourselves to the coffee bar and she brought over some water (infused with lemon - yum!). The menu is simple and appealing. I had an omelet with feta, spinach and tomatoes and it was delicious! It came with a nice side of fresh fruit and roasted potato wedges with a tasty garlic mayo. My experience was bad just on customer service. My wife and I walked in the door and when i declined hot chocolate or cider the owner rudely remarked that i had decided to get nothing. I then asked about the coffee options available, she rattled them off and then stormed off never giving me an opportunity to order and never returned. So, several months ago I received a free 25 dollar Gift Certificate from restaurant.com, as I have never eaten at 29 South I figured I would give 29 a chance. I called a few days later and asked about the Gift Certificate and the person answered the phone was very rude and reported that "we have not accepted those for over a month." OK...well, since I bought it a few days ago I was annoyed, but let it go. Here we are December 30th. I received ANOTHER set of Gift Certificates from restaurant.com from my family for XMas. Since the first experience, I have used them at many different restaurants with no issues. I was looking at the website and found 29 South again. AGAIN, I figured they were back on the website and I would give it another shot for brunch. I bought a 10 dollar Gift Certificate and was on my way. I arrived and approached the restaurant and on the door was a sign that said something to the affect of "We no longer accept Gift Certificates from restaurant.com." Wow. This place clearly does not have it "stuff" together I will never eat there, and will report this to all my friends, family, and random people I see on the street. read more

We stopped here after one o'clock and even though the restaurant was going to close, they were terrifically accommodating. Our group ordered a Cuban sandwich and Monte cristos. Although the food wasn't terrible, it would not bring me back for another visit. I had quiche, which was a very small portion and was not served with the sides the menu stated. I received a piece of whole grain toast with butter and was not offered jelly or anything else. The meal was very bland. My husband had a chicken cordon bleu sandwich which came with no sides and no condiments. We honestly were shocked at the price and left hungry and returned home to eat. There was no music or ambiance. The cafe was silent and we listened to a woman talking about a funeral the entire time we tried to enjoy our lunch. I was very impressed with this little quaint restaurant. I have tried the turkey burger and the cuban sandwich and both were delicious! The staff was very friendly and made us feel right at home. I usually stop in for coffee and maybe bakery. Their cookies, muffins, bars are always a real treat.
