The fish batter was thick (too much). I removed the batter and the fish was mushy & didn't have the texture like cod. Took a bite of the coleslaw which was room temperature, not cold with a strange flavor ( didn't eat anymore of it) , fries were ok.. All the appetizers didn't taste like what it was supposed to be..Overall food needs a lot of help. Presentation is ok but the seasoning & flavoring fails.. I may try this place again.. IDK? I came in on a Monday for lunch. It wasn't busy and a few tables were filled up. I got seated quickly and my server approached me for drinks. Both my friend and I got a classic burger. She got the sweet potato fries and I got a loaded potato soup. The loaded potato soup was amazing. I'm particular about soup and have really been picky with it. But man this soup was amazing. Hands down one of the best restaurants around with a great unique menu! I love how everything is just elevated enough to feel different and adventurous, but nothing is too out there for those who want to stay in their comfort zone. The space itself is large and airy, and has a great family atmosphere. They also have a large patio area for the warmer months. We went during happy hour, where all appetizers, beer, and certain cocktails are 30% off. We started out with pretzel bites (delicious - although I thought the cheese sauce could use a bit more flavor), and dynamite shrimp (one word - phenomenal. I could've eaten that as a meal). For cocktails we had the salt foam paloma (super unique - the salt foam was such a great touch), and the blueberry squeeze margarita (this also had the salt foam, and it tasted like it had fresh blueberry juice!). We also got the traditional wings (they were huge!) and the Baja fish tacos (also huge - it looked like an entire piece of cod was in each taco). My husband and I tried out this new restaurant for lunch and were very pleased. The hostesses were nice but the greeting the restaurant has them do is kind of cheesy. The decor is modern and it was very clean, including the restrooms. The seating was comfortable also. The waiter was pleasant and checked back in the appropriate timing as not to be intrusive but helpful. My husband said his hamburger and coleslaw was very good and my grilled chicken sandwich and fries were very good as well and I'm happy they offer a gluten free bun. They have some great specials as well and a nice cocktail and beer list. We would definitely go back. read more

Decent service, but the overall experience was just okay. The environment was loud, and the menu felt limited -- mainly handhelds, salads, and rice bowls. Let's talk about the menu structure. I completely understand when restaurants offer different breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus with specific timeframes. However, when the menu items are the same and the only difference is portion size and price, it is frustrating not to have flexibility. I wanted to order a lunch-sized portion of a dinner item and was told that was not allowed. Honestly, 30 Hop would have had a higher-priced ticket from me, and the server would have earned a higher tip, had that option been available. Instead, the refusal to serve the same item in a smaller portion felt unnecessary -- but of course, that is their choice. Overall, the selection is limited. If you are in the mood for sandwiches, salads, and a draft beer at a neighborhood bar, 30 Hop fits the bill. read more

Excellent service and food in upscale brew pub decor. New and super clean. We did the two for two and a burger special with truffle fries. I absolutely stuffed my face with those fries. Tomato soup and unique Caesar salad were delicious and hit the spot in a cool day. Turkey Brie Sammy my friend had was also said to be quite tasty. The cocktails were chef kiss! We had a martini up and a vanilla pear mule that was utterly perfection, I highly recommend that mule!! Music was late 80s-early 90s which created a high energy environment. The service was awful. We had a large table of 11 and when the rest of my table got their food, I waited patiently. When noting ever came out I flagged down the waiter- she could have checked on us to make sure everything came out- nope. I asked about my biscuits and gravy. She said " It didn't come out?" No, I have nothing in front of me and some people at my table have finished their meal. She got the manager and he said "Well the meal was made and it got put down. Somebody else must be eating it." He said he would re make it for me. I reminded him I had busy and gravy. They promptly brought out the order of the girl sitting next to me. I had to say again I had the full regular biscuit and gravy order. Which was finally corrected. When it was time to pay we asked multiple times if gratuity was already added. The waiter she said no. It is on a device that doesn't spell out the charges. I added more tip and asked for a printed copy. There was already 18% gratuity because of the large table so she ended up getting tipped twice by half the table. Some of my party had left before this error was caught. Check your receipt! I asked for it to be refunded. Hopefully it doesn't charge me twice. When you are ready for your check you must flag down the waiter. You will wait an hour after you are done if you do not get their attention and ask for the check. read more

Newest Merriam location and a great spot for beer and the food was pretty great! I would say the atmosphere was a nice refresh for the area. Tvs all around and quite open. Perfect place to catch a sports game for sure! They have good happy hour and daily deals for sure. Got in for the happy hour (30% off beers and apps) the beer menu is quite large - probably 40-50 beers to choose from. The food was also very good for a bar setting. Rather eclectic menu! (Mix between Asian/ Mexican/ burgers) - started with the nachos for an app and was quite a good portion and a good amount of chicken for the upcharge. Got the poke bowl which was refreshing and a great portion/ flavor. Then got the cheesesteak sandwich. The fries were fantastic and the the sandwich was also a touch unique. The service was prompt. Our server gave us plenty of attention (especially for it being pretty busy) I would recommend to anyone that is interested in the menu and wants a good beer selection. Great Happy Hour! There is a nice variety of draft beers on tap. Food portions are very generous and food offerings are delicious. Bar servers did a wonderful job tending to our drinking and dining needs. Only thing that would have made the visit better would have been a frosty mug for the draft beers. read more

I really love this new addition to JoCo. I know it is a "chain" but it's a little chain with its roots in Iowa, like me!!! Great happy hour, just 30% off drinks and apps. Such a great idea instead of offering 2 wines and 3 apps at half price. Looks like a great patio but it was so hot we sat inside. I had 2 miles that were pineapple, not sure the official name and they were delightful. We shared the pork nachos which we amazing, maybe top 3 nachos for me. It had lots of toppings, melted cheese and a delicious sauce. So good. Our waitress was great and food and drinks came quickly and water never went empty. Apologies in advance for not very detailed review. I went here over a week ago and I do not have that much of a memory of it. Maybe that's an indication of how I felt about the restaurant. But we went there on a Wednesday evening, there's a shocking lack of parking out front really for how big of a restaurant it is and how many different businesses around there but easy to park in lots of EV parking for those who need it. My parents were already there when I arrived, and I sat with them. The weight staff could've been a little bit more on top of things, but they were perfectly pleasant. I was in a mood for chicken fingers that night. I haven't seen any reviews for that but the waiter assured me that everything was made in house and I thought OK I'll just go ahead and do that. And I'll tell you I was kind of disappointed in them. They were perfectly well cooked and they were literally the size of chicken breast, which is pretty unnecessary. But whatever batter they use tastes like something from Sysco. It was very crispy, but sometimes when they used too much pepper, it gives it a weird artificial flavor. But I will say the coleslaw was good. The fries were good and the honey mustard was good. It's just not my favorite chicken tenders. I didn't love the flavor of the batter. But my parents enjoyed their food. And we split a chocolate cake. Oh no, it was a fairly good meal, but I would say it reminds me of barley's. Food is solid, but nothing to write home about. I don't know that I would need to go back. But it's pretty good for what it is. And they will say the ambience is kind of cool. It's a neat space. read more

I was in the mood for a good burger and onion rings. When I arrived at 30hop, I learned that they serve fries, not onion rings. Justin recommended that I purchase a burger and get my onion rings next door. I thanked him and said that the burger and fries on their menu was sure to be delicious. Not only was the burger hefty enough for two meals, I was astonished to find an order of onion rings in my take-out package when I got home. Went for lunch and was not a good experience. Ordered a Tenderloin sandwich. Two issues. The restaurant does not offer sliced red onion as an option for the sandwich or burgers. Had to have the Manager go back to the kitchen and cut me a slice of red onion. Second, they do not have horseradish of any kind for a Tenderloin sandwich. This is a must have! We tried 30hop at the recommendation of a coworker. They looked super busy, but we snagged a table right away on a Friday evening. The menu had some interesting spins on traditional favorites. We started with the Loaded Guac and Chips. The guac included bacon, corn salsa, elote crema, and tajin, but the avocado wasn't overpowered by any of those ingredients. It was different, but good. My dining companion ordered a Caesar salad with chicken. A classic, but it was not well executed. The dressing did not have much flavor, and the chicken was dry. I ordered the Korean steak sandwich, and it was massive. There was no way for me to pick that thing up and take a bite without making a mess. What I did eat of it, I did not love. There was a warm spice in there that I like in baked goods, but not in savory applications. That's probably just a me thing. The atmosphere was PHENOMENAL! We loved the beer selection and were shocked to see Big Grove from Iowa on tap! Made my day! The service was great. Our waiter was properly attentive, however a waiter station was right behind us and it was a tad annoying. Now the food. The food was all over the place. The shrimp appetizer was delicious. Flavors were spot on. Texture super crispy. Just absolutely delicious. I wish I could say the same for the rest of it. I got the turkey pesto panini. It was dry and tasteless. The sandwich was 90% dry crumbly turkey which left no room for flavor. No pesto flavor. Razor thin tomatoes. One thin slice of cheese. My friend got the spicy noodle bowl. When he claimed it wasn't spicy at all, I tasted it. It's made with a peanut butter sauce that's nowhere near spicy. Rather disappointing. Mixed Feelings - Lunch Hits, Dinner Misses I really wanted to love this place all the way through -- and at first, I did. I came twice for lunch and had a fantastic experience both times: food was fresh, service was prompt, and everything came out just right. Lunch? Five stars. Dinner, however, has been a different story. On one occasion, I ordered something very simple: chicken tacos with just chicken and cheese. It took three tries for the kitchen to get it right -- and while I appreciated the staff correcting the mistake, it definitely took the enjoyment (and the heat) out of the meal. Another time, we ordered an appetizer that didn't show up until after our entrees were finished. At that point, it felt more like an awkward encore than a starter. This time we actually had trouble getting a second round of drinks ordered and I had to go actually ask our server. The staff has always been friendly, and the potential is clearly there -- but dinner service has consistently fallen short of the mark. I'm hopeful things improve, because I know how great this place can be. read more
