The other standout was the raspberry coconut chicken: crispy coconut-breaded tenders draped in a raspberry coulis with toasted almonds on top, sitting over a creamy slaw. Sweet and savory done right, though heads up if you're dairy-sensitive -- that slaw is loaded. Portions are generous, flavors are bold without being over the top, and everything tasted made-to-order rather than assembly-line. Will definitely be back to work through the rest of the menu. I set up reservations online, got an email confirming, and when we get there they have no clue about the reservation and want to seat us outside. It's hot out. Eventually the get us seated in the main area. My wife ordered mashed potatoes and green beans as sides, and the mashed potatoes were cold. They took those back to fix, so we each tried some of her green beans. We both looked at each other in shock and said "These taste like fish!" Plus they were cold, so cold fish green beans. So when they brought out the warmed mashed potatoes we mentioned that, and they grabbed those to fix up, and asked us to check our steak. They were supposed to be medium, but were rare. So they took the steaks and my fries (the only thing edible so far). After 10 minutes the steaks were back, and looked good, along with a new order of the green beans, and we each got a replacement flame singed sliver of bread. So we taste the green beans, and now they taste like warm fish. So we got the manager again and I asked if they ever taste any of this stuff, and she didn't really know what to say. She said they'd take it off our bill, and we could have a free desert. Okay so back to the steaks, which were cooked right but too salty now. And that's when I realized they never brought back my fries. So we flag them down again, and eventually get the fries, which are good. The desert menu is a bunch of uninteresting goo, but we settle on something and get it to go. I pay the bill, tip 20%, and we get the heck out. Later we realize that they had accidentally added another steak entree to out order, then credited it off, just like the green beans and "free" desert, but their little machine calcutes the tip off the total before credits, so I actually payed a 50% tip. For the positives, the food and drinks were genuinely good. I had the house salad with salmon and a Flying Bicycle cocktail and both were excellent. Unfortunately, the service side fell flat. We arrived mid-afternoon around 1:30-2:00, and the restaurant wasn't busy. We asked if we could sit upstairs, and the host seemed confused before telling us it was closed, then seated us directly next to a loud group despite plenty of quieter open tables nearby. A few minutes later, we looked upstairs ourselves and saw multiple occupied tables being actively served...what the heck? The most frustrating part of this experience wasn't the seating, it was the complete indifference from the staff. Drinks didn't arrive until after we had already finished eating, and despite the restaurant being relatively slow, nobody seemed remotely concerned. No urgency or communication. Just a normal day for them, I guess. A kitchen can only carry a restaurant so far when the front-of-house operates with this little care for hospitality. The atmosphere gives the impression of a place that wants to feel polished and upscale, but the service felt lazy and disconnected from the guest experience. Mistakes happen in restaurants. What matters is whether the staff notices and cares enough to fix them. We left wondering how a restaurant with food this solid has become comfortable delivering service this poor. read more

I'm so disappointed in the service provided by Red Door this week. I had reservations on Tuesday and walked into what seemed like a very hot restaurant. I asked my server if the AC was broken, he said it was this morning, it had been 87 inside, but it was fixed now and catching up. So we stayed. IT WAS NOT FIXED. It was so hot and uncomfortable. I mentioned it a few more times to various staff but they all insisted there was nothing wrong (gaslighting much??). We finished quickly and got out of there. On the way out I warned everyone walking in and several turned around and left (it was 97 degrees that day!). They should have called us to notify us before we arrived. They should have told us when we walked in. They should have comped something if we chose to stay. They should have been honest when I asked when I was seated. Seriously so poorly handled. read more

We brought a large group in for lunch. They got us seated right away. The service was great, they took great care of us from start to finish. We got appetizers and a full lunch. Five stars? Really? But it's just sort of a neighborhood joint, right? Wrong. Red Door actually IS a neighborhood spot for us, 'cuz we're spoiled like that in the 'burbs, but Red Door delivers us a top-shelf dining/cocktail experience every visit. Whether it's just an appetizer to be shared, with the obligatory cocktail or two, or full-on supper, Red Door has their game on lock. Our most recent visit, made with a reservation (plan ahead!), had us having dinner at a bar high-top. The seasonal cocktails, some featuring J Rieger spirits, are always rotating and never disappoint. The Red Kingdom (Rieger vodka, apricot liqueur, & cherry soda) is refreshing and balanced, and their margaritas always slap. If only they had a Rolo-dex of their previous seasonal cocktails because my wife is a sucker for a pear martini she has enjoyed here once or twice. Maybe there's a catalog, but we'll check next visit. I had a hankering for something homestyle, so the Big Gary's Meatloaf was just my jam. Two slices atop fabulous mashies, brown gravy, with a side of sautéed veggies, and I was beyond happy. Side note: I don't do Brussel sprouts, because my mom BOILED them when I was a kid and that mental stinkery has never left my brain. But Matthew talked me into trying them, and hey, when sautéed with some olive oil & spices, them sprouts were delicious. Match those sprouts with carrots & fresh green beans and that made the plate sing. Here I am conquering food fears! If you want for a salad, then just know that the 'full' size is a ginormous portion. Even a Caesar, with a protein like grilled chicken added, makes for a dish that is sure to satisfy. We love the Wedge, too, not because we even remotely enjoy iceberg lettuce but because you could cover leather in bleu cheese & bacon crumbles and we'd smash it (and we have to share one). You can make reservations online (thru Toast) or take your chances on a popular JoCo spot during busy hours. In good weather, the west-facing patio, replete with screens, is a wonderful spot overlooking the fountain. Pricing is on par with the market, and it's kid-friendly, especially on $5 Burger Mondays! Went there for KC Restaurant Week 2026. Food was great. Service was good--we sat across from the bar and the bar was busy, so I get it. Started out crazy busy with a 25 min wait for a table, but available spaces at the bar; not too bad given the Sunday afternoon crowd. I ordered all three courses for lunch with the additional dessert costing extra, as was the mimosa--Blackberry Lemonade; so good I'd consider it a go-to drink if I felt like splurging. Course 1: Brussels sprouts salad without capers--it was tasty. Course 2: Salmon BLT--it was yummy, but questioned whether the bacon jam was present--don't get me wrong, there was bacon and it may have been jammy, but it looked like mushed bacon bits--probably the jam part "melted" into the salmon? Anyway, it was good. That sourdough toasted bread was outstanding! Fries were crisp and delicious. Course 3: I got the dark chocolate mousse to go. Went for KC Restaurant Week and sat in the bar area which was nice, the atmosphere fits me, and it was a nice change from the mezzanine where I'm usually at. Service wasn't anything to rave about. One server acted like he was bothered to be there while the young lady was nice but seemed to be in a hurry. Food was good and I do thank them for accommodating my gluten allergy but will never get it with the "lettuce wrap" again. The atmosphere was great! The food not so much. My mashed potatoes and gravy were cold. The gravy was thin and tangy, which I am not used to. My daughter's Impossible burger seemed like it was warmed up and threw on the bun. She drove in from Lawrence so we sucked it up and licked our wounds. We were a party of 5 celebrating my birthday. Our last visit was to the Lenexa/Shawnee location. My husband had the chicken enchiladas which he loved. I had the panzanella steak salad and WOW - that was one of the best salads I have had in a long time. Generously sized, with an interested, well-curated list of ingredients (seriously - this salad had KALE in it, and normally I'm not crazy about raw kale, but LOVED it in this salad). Served with a generous portion of perfectly cooked (medium rare) steak, it was an incredibly satisfying meal. I would make the drive from Douglas County KS any day of the week to have that salad again. read more

I've been going to Red Door for a while now, mostly for their lunch specials during the work week. It's always been a reliable go-to. But recently I've noticed it's really become more of a poppin' spot for dinner - and now I get why. My wife and I went for Valentine's Day and decided to do the full experience - appetizer, drinks, entrée, and dessert. We honestly don't always go through the whole "shabang" like that, but I'm glad we did. I love the fun-but-fine-dining vibe. It feels elevated without feeling stiff or over the top. The wood-fired flavor really stands out in the meal and gives everything that extra depth. For the price, you get a quality meal with a fancy dining feel, which makes it a great date-night option. We had a great server and crew and the food came quickly, our beverages were kept full. We sat upstairs and they really hustled. It was a busy night Tuesday night but it was worth the wait. We all tried the pretzel bite appetizer. Who doesn't love queso sauce? And the pretzels... were warm, tender, and so good. We all had the same entrée. It was chorizo macaroni and cheese served with chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were some of the best seasoned tenders I've ever had and they were perfect. Very tender. The cheese sauce on the macaroni and cheese was the same as the dip for the pretzels. The chorizo had just the right amount of heat. For dessert, we shared the pecan pie. It was the perfect way to top off a nice evening. We ended up joining the rewards program and got a digital coupon for free App on our next visit. What a cool place this is!! Went on $5 burger night and it did not disappoint! Look, the burgers are small-not sliders, but they are delicious!! Being gluten free I have to say the bun was not bad which is great for us. Also I got the mixed biggies cause the fries have gluten. But I tell you i would do it again anyway! I actually enjoy Red Door - I think it's a nice little restaurant, similar to Applebees or Chilis but a little more elevated. I came in on a Saturday evening with a reservation and if you can schedule a reservation ahead of time - go ahead and do so. This place was pretty packed as it usually is but service was still very good and fast. I ordered a Moscow Mule (not pictured) as my drink of choice and these always hit the spot here. I think the bartender poured a little too much Tito's but you can't really complain about this, right? I ordered the charred wings and these tasted like you would imagine them too. I think they should offer a bigger variety of flavors but nonetheless the wings were good. The caesar salad also definitely hit the spot and I found myself eating the entire salad, mostly forgetting about the other food ordered. I think it's quite easy to mess up a caesar salad but Red Door gets it. The Cajun Pasta was also pretty tasty! Ended the night with some beignets and chocolate syrup which was a nice touch to end the night. No complaints coming here, you'll receive good service and pretty good food read more

Red Door's $5 Burger Monday deal is unbeatable. For $2, you can add fries. For $2 more, you can get a speciality burger. That's definitely the way to go because the Sweet Cheeses Burger was oh so cheesey and delicious. I've never had a burger that oozed cheese like this and I'm definitely here for it. $9 for a burger and fries during dinner is a steal, and the quality is definitely there!
