For the positives, the food and drinks were genuinely good. I had the house salad with salmon and a Flying Bicycle cocktail and both were excellent. Unfortunately, the service side fell flat. We arrived mid-afternoon around 1:30-2:00, and the restaurant wasn't busy. We asked if we could sit upstairs, and the host seemed confused before telling us it was closed, then seated us directly next to a loud group despite plenty of quieter open tables nearby. A few minutes later, we looked upstairs ourselves and saw multiple occupied tables being actively served...what the heck? The most frustrating part of this experience wasn't the seating, it was the complete indifference from the staff. Drinks didn't arrive until after we had already finished eating, and despite the restaurant being relatively slow, nobody seemed remotely concerned. No urgency or communication. Just a normal day for them, I guess. A kitchen can only carry a restaurant so far when the front-of-house operates with this little care for hospitality. The atmosphere gives the impression of a place that wants to feel polished and upscale, but the service felt lazy and disconnected from the guest experience. Mistakes happen in restaurants. What matters is whether the staff notices and cares enough to fix them. We left wondering how a restaurant with food this solid has become comfortable delivering service this poor. read more

Red Door actually IS a neighborhood spot for us, 'cuz we're spoiled like that in the 'burbs, but Red Door delivers us a top-shelf dining/cocktail experience every visit. Whether it's just an appetizer to be shared, with the obligatory cocktail or two, or full-on supper, Red Door has their game on lock. Our most recent visit, made with a reservation (plan ahead!), had us having dinner at a bar high-top. The seasonal cocktails, some featuring J Rieger spirits, are always rotating and never disappoint. The Red Kingdom (Rieger vodka, apricot liqueur, & cherry soda) is refreshing and balanced, and their margaritas always slap. If only they had a Rolo-dex of their previous seasonal cocktails because my wife is a sucker for a pear martini she has enjoyed here once or twice. Maybe there's a catalog, but we'll check next visit. I had a hankering for something homestyle, so the Big Gary's Meatloaf was just my jam. Two slices atop fabulous mashies, brown gravy, with a side of sautéed veggies, and I was beyond happy. Side note: I don't do Brussel sprouts, because my mom BOILED them when I was a kid and that mental stinkery has never left my brain. But Matthew talked me into trying them, and hey, when sautéed with some olive oil & spices, them sprouts were delicious. Match those sprouts with carrots & fresh green beans and that made the plate sing. Here I am conquering food fears! If you want for a salad, then just know that the 'full' size is a ginormous portion. Even a Caesar, with a protein like grilled chicken added, makes for a dish that is sure to satisfy. We love the Wedge, too, not because we even remotely enjoy iceberg lettuce but because you could cover leather in bleu cheese & bacon crumbles and we'd smash it (and we have to share one). You can make reservations online (thru Toast) or take your chances on a popular JoCo spot during busy hours. In good weather, the west-facing patio, replete with screens, is a wonderful spot overlooking the fountain. Pricing is on par with the market, and it's kid-friendly, especially on $5 Burger Mondays! Went there for KC Restaurant Week 2026. Food was great. Service was good--we sat across from the bar and the bar was busy, so I get it. Started out crazy busy with a 25 min wait for a table, but available spaces at the bar; not too bad given the Sunday afternoon crowd. I ordered all three courses for lunch with the additional dessert costing extra, as was the mimosa--Blackberry Lemonade; so good I'd consider it a go-to drink if I felt like splurging. Course 1: Brussels sprouts salad without capers--it was tasty. Course 2: Salmon BLT--it was yummy, but questioned whether the bacon jam was present--don't get me wrong, there was bacon and it may have been jammy, but it looked like mushed bacon bits--probably the jam part "melted" into the salmon? Anyway, it was good. That sourdough toasted bread was outstanding! Fries were crisp and delicious. Course 3: I got the dark chocolate mousse to go. One kiddos burger was not cooked to well done as ordered and we had to wait so long for a party of 5's food. One of the five had calamari appetizer as their meal and it wasn't even cooked all the way through. Food was good and I do thank them for accommodating my gluten allergy but will never get it with the "lettuce wrap" again. I had the panzanella steak salad and WOW - that was one of the best salads I have had in a long time. Generously sized, with an interested, well-curated list of ingredients (seriously - this salad had KALE in it, and normally I'm not crazy about raw kale, but LOVED it in this salad). Served with a generous portion of perfectly cooked (medium rare) steak, it was an incredibly satisfying meal. I've been going to Red Door for a while now, mostly for their lunch specials during the work week. It's always been a reliable go-to. But recently I've noticed it's really become more of a poppin' spot for dinner - and now I get why. My wife and I went for Valentine's Day and decided to do the full experience - appetizer, drinks, entrée, and dessert. We honestly don't always go through the whole "shabang" like that, but I'm glad we did. I love the fun-but-fine-dining vibe. It feels elevated without feeling stiff or over the top. The wood-fired flavor really stands out in the meal and gives everything that extra depth. For the price, you get a quality meal with a fancy dining feel, which makes it a great date-night option. We had a great server and crew and the food came quickly, our beverages were kept full. We sat upstairs and they really hustled. It was a busy night Tuesday night but it was worth the wait. We all tried the pretzel bite appetizer. Who doesn't love queso sauce? And the pretzels... were warm, tender, and so good. We all had the same entrée. It was chorizo macaroni and cheese served with chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were some of the best seasoned tenders I've ever had and they were perfect. Very tender. The cheese sauce on the macaroni and cheese was the same as the dip for the pretzels. The chorizo had just the right amount of heat. For dessert, we shared the pecan pie. It was the perfect way to top off a nice evening. We ended up joining the rewards program and got a digital coupon for free App on our next visit. We tried out this restaurant for the first time early evening. We were promptly seated in a booth by the bar. The waiter came over promptly and was friendly and helpful and a good waiter throughout our time there. I asked for the gluten friendly menu and was given one and I'm glad that they have one. We each ordered a cocktail from their happy hour menu. My husband had the OG Mule and I had a classic screwdriver. My husband liked his drink, my screwdriver had mostly vodka and very little orange juice. So they did not skip at the bar, but I would've preferred a little bit more orange juice. I ordered their classic burger on a gluten-free bun with fries and my husband had their shrimp tacos with black refried beans and rice. Our food came out pretty quickly, but the temperature on both of our orders was not up to par. My hamburger meat was warm, but my fries were cold and kind of grainy tasting, and the gluten-free bun was completely cold. My husband's tacos were also barely warm. The flavor of the hamburger and the tacos was good. The complaint is more about the temperature. The atmosphere was pleasant and not too loud even though we were right next to the bar. I don't recall any music playing, but they had some sports on the screens at a quiet level. The restaurant itself was clean, but when I visited the women's bathroom, it needed to be refreshed, and there was no soap in either hand dispenser, which was somewhat surprising since it was early. They have a lot of seating and it is a nice looking restaurant with modern decor and outdoor seating. I came here during a lunch break and I was pleased with my experience. Red Door has a Monday special for $5 classic burgers or $7 specialty burger which is a great deal. You can add fries for an additional $2. I ordered the Classic Burger (Medium) with Fries. The burger has great flavor, the beef is juicy and tasteful, and every bite was delicious. The fries were crispy, salted perfectly, and enjoyable. The service was good. I was checked up on a few times throughout the time I was there and my drinks were filled accordingly. The ambiance of the location was somewhat business casual. The lighting, colors, and table setting presented a relaxing environment and felt upscale overall. I actually enjoy Red Door - I think it's a nice little restaurant, similar to Applebees or Chilis but a little more elevated. I came in on a Saturday evening with a reservation and if you can schedule a reservation ahead of time - go ahead and do so. This place was pretty packed as it usually is but service was still very good and fast. I ordered a Moscow Mule (not pictured) as my drink of choice and these always hit the spot here. I think the bartender poured a little too much Tito's but you can't really complain about this, right? I ordered the charred wings and these tasted like you would imagine them too. I think they should offer a bigger variety of flavors but nonetheless the wings were good. The caesar salad also definitely hit the spot and I found myself eating the entire salad, mostly forgetting about the other food ordered. I think it's quite easy to mess up a caesar salad but Red Door gets it. The Cajun Pasta was also pretty tasty! Ended the night with some beignets and chocolate syrup which was a nice touch to end the night. No complaints coming here, you'll receive good service and pretty good food read more
