First time at Sura and we were not disappointed. At this Kbbq spot there is a meat bar where you can go to the counter and get your own meats, sides, and hot foods. You pace yourself, get as many or as little food as you want. We had the classic menu and loved the LA galbi. I enjoyed the rib finger out of everything I had, so I highly suggest that one. The only issue I have with this place is that the floor became very slippery. There was a spot near the sauces where one of the bottles was dripping onto the floor. My brother and I almost slipped on the sauce on the floor. I do hope that management sees this review and addresses the sauce station. To leave on a good note, we really enjoyed this place, the music was amazing and not loud, food tasted fresh, all stations were replenished quickly, and our host/waiter was very informative, he had a great attitude and he made our dinning experience a great one. read more

I came here with a group of 15 for my nephew's birthday. Thankfully we were able to get reservations right before the lunch special, which was 28.99 for AYCE. This place is self serve and you're able to choose several protein options. I was disappointed that they ran out of shrimp! Selection of meat was okay. There's other bbq spots with a wider variety of options. Some of the pre cooked buffet items looked just okay to me. I did try the kimchi (kinda spicy), bean sprouts (a little mild flavor, would've like a bit more) and pickled cucumbers (has a nice crunch to it). The tofu soup lacked a lot of flavor & it only has one piece of tofu in it. There's also soft serve with mango and vanilla. Many people in my party said that the mango had no mango taste at all. I didn't try the hot pot option since I didn't want to get too full with soup. Several soda options and wait staff was attentive enough but you had a call button nearby just in case you need anything. Service was really good here and I love how they have the calling buttons so you get quick service without feeling like the employees are constantly hovering around you and bothering you. My guy and I both did the Korean BBQ option, but loved how they had Shabu available as well. Everything here is self-serve except for some of the meats, which the server brings. I tried some of the pre-made food items that are self-serve, and I wasn't a big fan of any of them. It's hard to have good food when it's been sitting out for gawd-knows how many hours under a heatlamp. Some things that were especially disappointing: - the japchae, which I absolutely love normally, but it was obviously not fresh here and severely lacked flavor - the kimchi, which I spat out and my guy didn't enjoy much - no lettuce wrap options for the meat - the sauces were all overly sweet or too vinegary - the exhaust fan was extremely low and annoyingly in the way - soft serve flavors were only vanilla and mango Overall, the meats were just average and we tried a lot of different ones. For the price, I wouldn't come back here again. There are better kbbq places nearby with better quality meats that are cheaper. read more

He was helpful, started us off with the specials, and he and the team were attentive the entire time always making sure our grill was clean and we had what we needed. There's a huge variety at the bar meats, veggies, seafood, and special sauces. The meat quality was good, and I loved the corn cups cheesy and so tasty. We'll definitely be coming back. I recently visited my family and they know how much I love KBBQ so they took me to Sura for lunch. The food was great and I love how convenient it is to just grab your meat and side dishes. The bulgogi and brisket were good but I loved the marinated top blade. For dessert I enjoyed the mango swirl and the sesame balls were also addicting. Service was great, music was good, and the kpop concert on the TV was fun to watch. Overall, we had an awesome lunch. Can't wait to go back. read more

Korean BBQ that is effecively conceptualized and efficiently managed! Sura is located in the newer part of Millenia, so parking can be a bit tricky if you're going at peak times. Since it is fairly new, reservations are readily available via Yelp. Almost all of the sides are readily available for you to choose from in the middle of the restaurant including your standard/most popular meat choices (e.g., brisket, bulgogi, beef belly, etc), sauce and utensils. Soft drinks are self-served through the fountain and there is even a self-serve froyo machine! The staff are attentive, and you're never waiting too long for staff to deliver more orders of meat. 10/10. read more

Can't beat their lunch special! $28.99 everyday day from 11:30-3:00 (for 90 min sittings) - except holidays. Love that they are self-serve so no wait! Plus you get the right portions for you and your party so you're sure to get everything you want, when you want, in the amount you want. The lunch selection is great - enough variety for the price and great quality meats. Service is very friendly, even though most of it is self-serve, obviously they still take and serve orders for other menu selections. Very attentive even if you do the lunch menu and most is self-serve. Love it! They play kpop music and have kpop videos on the tvs, which my daughter loves. Plenty of space and tables! They have meat bar and had to get my spicy pork belly . The service was great always asking if we need anything and changed the grill without even asking . 2 in 1 ! I love Korean barbecue, but what I love more is Korean barbecue with hot pot! Came here after a friend recommended this spot and it was amazing! All the meats were flavorful! Quality, quality, and quality that's what it tasted like! Their their appetizer bar was also amazing! This spot is different than most Korean barbecue spots because it's self serve on most of the common meats and if you want one in there are more exclusive meats they're right there at your table to give it to you. Buffet lunch menu style was different and unique! Would recommend to try and experience!

Had a birthday celebration here with friends for lunch. I like that we could pick up our own meats and sides without waiting for a server to come by. They had a good selection of food to choose from. The restaurant was clean and lots of servers walking around to help where needed. I love that your meal includes soft drinks and soft serve ice cream with no additional charge. My favorite meats were the spicy bulgogi. Parking was a bit of a challenge to get to the restaurant front. If you live in the neighborhood it's a nice walk without the hassle of driving. Also the price of the meal posted outside the restaurant was not what the menu posted. The menu was $2 higher and they would not honor the outdoor listed price, which I found to be odd. I'm blessed beyond measure to be best friends with a group of dudes I've known from elementary school, high school, college, and throughout our adult lives. We started a Christmas gift exchange back in 1990 and have kept this annual tradition going for 35 years. For this year's iteration, my longtime buddy hosted at his home and came up with the idea of us eating dinner at Sura Korean BBQ and then opening our Christmas presents at his house after dinner. This was my first time visiting Sura and it was a great call by my buddy because I really enjoyed the different set up of this All-You-Can-Eat KBBQ restaurant compared to the other ones I've eaten at, the ambience was conducive for me and my friend's loud camaraderie, I thought the different price points were priced accordingly, and the food here at Sura was filling and satisfying. My buddy hosting this year and I hope every year was just perfect for our 35th annual Christmas get together because he lived a short walk from Sura, but for anyone not having that luxury, it might challenging and I'll explain. Sura is located on the far east end of Chula Vista. If you're familiar with where Otay Ranch Town Center and the Vons shopping center, Sura is within close proximity to these two centers. This Korean BBQ restaurant is located in the middle of a condo community. The restaurant/bar Common Theory used to operate next to Sura, but recently closed because the parking in front of these two locations is limited. This flaw caused Common Theory to close and I hope it doesn't affect Sura. In fact, the owners of Common Theory are the owners of Sura, so I really hope customers continue to support Sura. Highly recommend that you make reservations, which is what we did, but we were still seated a little late. The restaurant was packed with customers dining and also waiting inside and outside for seats even though it was raining, which was a good sign for this first timer. They really pack in the diners here using up a lot of space with booth and table/chair seating with bbq grills for cooking. The ambience was loud and bustling, which was conducive for boisterous parties like ours. The decor is minimalistic with subtle hues of color and one tv that I remember. Our waitress was friendly and checked up on us at a good pace. If not for the parking situation and being seated a little late, Sura would have easily received 5 stars, but it gets 4.5 stars from me. There are three different price points here at Sura. The Classic is $39.99 per person, the Premium is $47.99, and the Sura is $57.99. Honestly, I think you'll be satisfied by any price point because each one offers a good amount of meat choices. My buddies and I chose the Sura price point specifically because you get to choose lobster tail, garlic butter scallop, and prime ribeye. The Sura price gives you high end meat and seafood choices, Pho, and all the meat and seafood choices from the other two price points. What I really loved about Sura's KBBQ set up is that it has a hot food self service line and a cold food self service line where you can grab appetizers like fried dumplings and seafood pancake, sides like kimchi and corn cheese, and unlimited white and fried rice. I've eaten at many KBBQ restaurants here in San Diego and I've never seen this type of set up where you self serve buffet style on whatever you desire. It even has a soft serve ice cream machine that served vanilla and mango ice cream. I liked their self service soda machine, which had raspberry ice tea. Sura has a great selection of meats and seafood to grill, both of which were grilled to perfection by my close buddy. The following were my favorite meats and seafood: lobster tail, garlic butter scallop, prime ribeye, prime New York steak, prime soy marinated rolled short rib, premium LA galbi, and bulgogi. All of these protein choices were tasty, satisfying, and stomach filling. Even though the lobster tail was rich and yummy, it was small for my liking. Not only did my best friend grill all of the meats and seafood exquisitely, he made a great choice by picking Sura Korean BBQ for our annual Christmas gift exchange dinner. This restaurant made such a great impression on me that I plan on taking my family here, so that I can stuff my face with the meat/seafood choices I ate this evening as well as the other choices I didn't get to try. read more

decided to try this new spot for father's day. We called ahead to make a reservation and glad we did. Our RSVP was for 1130, right at opening. We arrived 10 min before opening and a long line was already there. When they opened, one of the staff came out and said they were taking care of reservations first. I went straight to the counter and they seated us immediately. I overheard that those without reservations would be waiting up to 90 minutes. They were offering the lunch menu for 27.99, i think because it was father's day. It was a great deal. Lots of meat options. For this price, it included beef belly, beef brisket, marinated beef, pork belly, shrimp, top blade steak and some other meats i cant remember. they also had another buffet of various foods such as curry, japchae, lomein, sesame balls, fries, gyoza, tettoboki, fried rice and orange chicken. It also included soft drinks. Also kid friendly, they offer high chairs. Unsure if the restroom has a changing station since we didnt use it. I liked this option because you can just get up to refill whatever you wanted. The only thing you had to order from the kitchen was the soup and egg. The only thing i did not enjoy was the egg souffle. This is always my go to but theirs was lacking in something. Not sure if it was because it was so busy (it also took 30 minutes for my egg to come) and maybe it was an off day. Staff were nice and always asked if we were ok or needed a grill change. Finally got to check this place out. They are now open for lunch daily. Party of 4 on weekday, went right when it opened at 1130. It's a little tricky finding the entrance. It's a one way into a parking lot, look for the sign- the driveway entrance looks like a sidewalk. Limited parking but for weekday, we were all able to park in front. There's also street parking available. We did the lunch special AYCE kbbq. It's self serve including beverages and banchan. The only thing u have to ask for is tofu stew and steamed egg. Everything else's like utencils and sauces, u can get yourself. Friendly customer service, they were very attentive to us making their rounds and grill changes. There's only one lunch price vs the dinner pricing. Options are limited but we were still satisfied with the options of meat and seafood with the price point. Would definitely come here again. Located deep in Chula Vista, more of the Otay area. There was ample parking and I was a bit surprised by the location, it's surrounded by many housing complexes. I had a reservation to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, and we were promptly seated. There are several pricing tiers, including a lunch special, but we opted for the pricier premium option to try some of the better cuts of meat. They offer a self-serve bar with banchan, sides, sauces, meats, and appetizers, which I really enjoyed. I like not having to always ask for refills of banchan and can just get it on my own. Pho was included on the premium menu, unexpected at a Korean BBQ spot but we were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Ice cream is also included with the premium option. Only 2 flavors (vanilla & chocolate) and a bit too sweet and icy for my preference. A great perk we didn't know about: if your group has at least five other people, the birthday person eats for free! Went to Sura Korean BBQ with my family for my pre-birthday celebration last month. The ambiance is ok, just a simple ambiance for everyone. I won't lie though, I HATE their gravel parking lot. I'm thankful that Sura Korean BBQ includes a beverage with your AYCE meal. A lot of AYCE places charge extra for beverages. The BEST tip I can give y'all to save money here is to go Thursday- Sunday to Sura for LUNCH 11:30am- 3pm for where you can have AYCE for ONLY $26.99 /person! What a steal!! My BIG disappointment was that I wasn't able to get any "birthday month freebie given as a reward." Other than that just know if you come during lunch time, there aren't too many staff changing the grills for your group. Thanks Sura for your friendly customer service!! I don't usually write reviews, but after multiple visits and not being able to get in touch with a manager to share our concerns, I felt it was important to share our experience. We've visited three times-once when it was only KBBQ and twice for AYCE hotpot. During our first dinner visit, the floor was incredibly sticky and greasy. I understand that Sura is an AYCE, self-serve concept, but the service was noticeably inattentive. Plates took a long time to be cleared and grills weren't changed promptly. Our second visit was shortly after they debuted AYCE hotpot. As we were finishing up, we stepped away briefly to grab dessert. Within just a few minutes, we returned to find our entire table cleared; plates, soup base, drinks, and even our unpaid bill despite our personal belongings still being at the table. It wasn't until they noticed our belongings that they realized we were still dining. Our unpaid bill and scratcher discounts had been thrown away. The staff members cleaning our table couldn't meet our eyes or offer an apology and avoided our table the last duration of our meal. We were honestly in shock and could only laugh at the situation. What if we had still been eating? Our third and most recent visit was on a Monday at 6:30 PM. The restaurant was not busy, there were only a few tables occupied. We didn't mind waiting for the table to be set up, but we weren't provided with soup bowls, soup spoons, or serving ladles for our hotpot unlike another table and had to ask another server for utensils. Throughout the meal, no one checked in on us to see if we needed refills on broth or wanted to order more, even though servers were actively tending to other tables. Our call bell wasn't working, and we had to flag down different servers for assistance. Visibly, our broth was evaporating quickly and smoke was blowing heavily into our faces. We weren't sure if the exhaust system was working properly or could be adjusted. We had to repeatedly ask for broth refills to prevent it from burning. After paying, I asked for a printed receipt. The server who checked us out did not return with it. Before leaving, I asked again at the host stand and waited patiently while they helped another table. The receipt was printed and placed on the host stand without explanation. We weren't sure if it was ours, so we waited. Eventually, the server handed it to us without acknowledgment or eye contact. It did not feel welcoming or accommodating and very dismissive. Unfortunately, after three disappointing experiences, we will not be returning. read more
