Decided to hang here before collecting our daughter from the PHL airport. Super easy to find with an adequate parking lot. The place was dark from the outside. I almost thought it was closed, but nope! There wasn't a big crowd, but it was a Monday at 7pm. A bunch of regulars enjoying the space. It was fairly loud with music. Super friendly folks working here. Our server was very sweet and made some recommendations as well as advised the specials for the night. Small hiccup with the beer I was served, but it was wet, so I drank the beer I was given. Ordered up the baked clam special. BBQ sauce and cheese was an odd combination, but actually quite good. I had the mussels and spaghetti for dinner. I asked for the Diavolo sauce, but not sure I received it. The sauce was not spicy at all, but some added red pepper flakes did the trick. The mussels were fantastic and a ton of them too. Spaghetti was cooked well and swimming in sauce. Small loaf of warmed bread for dipping. My wife had a chicken cutlet sandwich and she found it a bit bland if I'm being honest. She dipped her bread in my sauce to give it a bit more flavor. They put on the home run derby which was appreciated. All in all, a fun stop. Not quite sure I'd return unless I needed a place to hang before that next run to PHL. They were very nice and appreciative of the business and we enjoyed our time dining here. read more

Different cheesesteak item #1089 in the last five years. A wednesday drinks and cheesesteaks with Amigo Dan. I was shocked how good the food was at 39 North Taproom and Grille. Prime Rib Sandwich was the daily special. Good balance of stuff (Cheddar Cheese, onion rings, BBQ sauce) that could have fought with each other. $15 and it came with steaks fries, you know I loved that!! Mad Elf on tap and I actually got through the night without doing anything overly stupid. I usually don't like a whole steak on a roll because it is sometimes hard to eat/bite and you get a fat hidden by the roll bite. This was easy to eat. We came here because on the most recent Google review, it said, "The bartender did not wear a bra. Crowd is good, though." And it literally made us laugh out loud because all of the other reviews were great! The mozzarella sticks were awesome! The special was a filet with mashed & green beans. My boyfriend doesn't love steak, but he enjoyed the filet. It was cooked correctly, and the potatoes were yummy. The mozzarella sticks, though, were "chefs kiss" with gooey pulley cheese. The staff was friendly and the beer was cold. We were just traveling through, but if we are in this area again, we will certainly be back. read more

It was a great atmosphere and I had some great conversation with locals. I ordered the wings and a burger which was really good. I stepped in for lunch and the place had two other patrons. Bathroom floors were extremely sticky and didn't appear clean for a place that just opened an hour prior. Strike 1 I went to order their main featured burger off the menu, but they were out of the cheese for the burger. Strike 2 I ended up ordering a "Specialty Sandwich", the Chicken Inner Harbor -Boneless Chicken Breast Sauteed in Olive Oil w/Garlic, Roasted Peppers, Sauteed Spinach & Smoked Mozzarella. The bottom of the bun was completely soaked, Chicken was very bland and it had a hint of Smoke. The spinach was probably the only decent part and you could detect slight garlic. $9 was a bit on the high side for what you get. Fries were $1.75 additional. Strike 3 $8 for a 10oz pour of craft beer outside the City is on the high side as well. Hard to excuse a poorly made sandwich at all, but when only three people are in the establishment during prime lunch time with a whopping three food orders, that's pretty bad. The server was a nice young girl and that is why there's an extra star. I'm one for giving a place a second try, but I'll pass and spend my money elsewhere. Solid little bar/grill. This is the hangout for the school that I teach at so I'm often here in a group and usually just for drinks. I usually do not do much hear in terms of food. on occasion, I'll have some of the various appetizers. Fries, Wings, and Onion Rings are all really good. They have a good selection of beers on draft including a bunch of quality Craft selections. They also have canned and bottled beer to round out their selection, not to mention seltzers. They have a full bar and the bartenders have been always been on point every time I'm in there. If you're in early a lot of times there is only one bartender on staff so it can be on the slow side if they haven't finished prepping for the evening rush yet. I should make an effort to come here with the family for dinner one night as many people speak highly of their food. read more

I've been meaning to give this place the full treatment for a while. It finally happened yesterday. I didn't come in with high expectations. Bars on Mac Dade Blvd aren't always known for food quality. I was content with a simple sandwich and a beer. The menu itself is rather basic. It's heavy on sandwiches, appetizers, burgers, and cheesesteaks. But yesterday they had two items on special that caught my eye. The French Onion soup and New Orleans chicken sandwich seemed like a good combo. The soup surprised me. It had a nice amount of cheese along with good flavor in the broth. My expectations suddenly were raised. The sandwich was huge. It was overloaded with chicken and cheese and had a great Cajun bite to it. Most importantly it was juicy. Grilled chicken sandwiches often dry out. This one was perfect. I came in thinking I would get a pretty basic lunch experience. I left feeling like I ate something pretty special. Kudos! read more

This place is a local hangout that reeks of wanting to please you. The tender, Paul, couldn't have been any nicer when he contributed to my delinquency and gave me whatever I needed, including some tastes of some foreign hops. Although 15-20 minutes from my airport hotel, it's a beer guys and gals hangout. Even better, Alyssa, the waitress, couldn't have been any better. Her expertise of the menu guided me towards one of the best meals I've had this month, gobbling some Shrimp Lujon that could have been on Top Chef. Thanks Alyssa. I ordered the sausage scaloppini while the fairer half ordered the chicken scaloppini along with the house salad with vinaigrette dressing. Everything was top notch! If there was one complaint I would have it would be the sausage, there was so much of it it buried the noodles and you had to dig to get to them! I was also told on very good authority the Dirty Banana slushy may be the best in DELCO. You'll have to try it to find out! This may well be the best kept secret in DELCO. read more

The bar is beautiful but the staff seems miserable and seem to only like catering to the regulars...... my friend and I waited 20+ mins to order FRENCH FRIES.... the bartender looked over at us several times and even walked past to give another guest a menu and never asked if we were ready. In fact, took our menu from the bar when we sat it down to give it to the other guest! Didn't even ask what we wanted until we stared at her for another 5 minutes waiting to order French fries. Safe to say I probably won't be coming here often or again at all. Considering it was a Wednesday night there shouldn't really be a reason to be miserable looking and short with the patrons. 39 North has to have the best clams in white sauce in Delco. Tuesday nights is special all you can eat clams for $14.95. The first plate includes spaghetti, and salad or soup. The clams were the very small cockle type, perfectly cooked, every one of them open. Most important, these clams were CLEAN! not a speck of sand. I didn't count, but there were easily 20-24 clams on a reasonable amount of spaghetti. The white sauce was in a light butter and wine sauce, with plenty there to dip warm rolls into. Service was excellent, nicely attentive as they took away empty dishes & brought a second order of clams and sauce on time. Went here when we were int own visiting family. I'll be honest, I didn't have high expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was very sweet and accommodating. While I've definitely had better cosmos in my life, they had a decent drink selection at very reasonable prices. The bread basket was delicious, filled with warm pipping hot bread. Got the mussels appetizer which was great - tasted fresh and was smothered in a delicious white wine broth. I opted for the crab cakes which were full of lump crab meat and not a lot of filling. They were fantastic. It came with mashed potatoes and veggies, as well as a tasty, basic starter salad. The folks at our table ordered chicken piccata, scallops, a seafood pasta - everyone seemed to really enjoy their meals. The prices were very reasonable and the staff was friendly and attentive. There was also live music, even at 6pm on a Saturday. If I was in the area again, I would return. read more

Well it was another night I didn't feel like cooking. So I thought we could try this place out. We the Mrs and my self arrive with no other expectations other than getting some food and a few drinks. The server Annie was Awesome very professionalism prompt with any request or questions we had for her... she made us feel very welcome as I could go on-about our server. The food was excellent as if you read any of my other reviews you'll know that I am honest and will tell you what my true dinning experience I had the all you can eat mussels and they were so good I had to force myself not to eat any more. This place is a gem. I stopped in by chance 1 Friday for a beer and a sandwich. I was really pleased with the food. But al of a Sunday this guy starts singing Sinatra, Buble, Bobby Darin. He blew me away. I ended up stayin there for 2 hours. I called a friend and told him to come over because he is a musician. We stayed and enjoyed. The guy said he is there every other week. Got delayed in Philly and was stuck in an airport hotel and had to get out for a bit. Despite being from out of town I was treated like a local. Food was better than it should be for a sports bar but even more impressive was the service. Had 3-4 different people wait on me during my time here and if anything they were too attentive which is obviously an oxymoron. If this place was in my neighborhood I'd eat here once a week. The only reason I even gave one star was because the waitress was very friendly but I should have known there was a problem when she didn't ask me how I wanted my ribeye cooked, when I asked her about it she said that they all are done medium well to well, needless to say my steak came out well done when I like medium rare so it was like eating a hockey Puck, my wife got clams and spaghetti and I've never tasted a dull clam in my life until this place, no taste and the wine sauce was bitter as they come, the vegetables I had with my steak had a nice explosion of water with every bite telling me they were obviously frozen. Went here for a Saturday night out to catch some sports and listen to some live music (which was going on from 5-8). The place was pretty crowded in the bar area, not so much on the table/restaurant side. Our Waitress Jess was very nice and helpful. It seems as though many people there knew each other which indicates there is a local element to the place which is fine, they obviously have a base clientele. We started with a few appetizers, the cheese steak egg rolls were good however one of them was a little overdone. They had good flavor with a little spicy kick. The other appetizer was a fried seafood sampler with Calamari, Shrimp and Clams Casino. This was very good and cooked to perfection with a nice portion. We decided to split a meal since we were pretty full from the appetizers. We went with the Chicken Marsala and again the portion size was generous. The Marsala sauce was tasty as were the green beans and mashed potatoes that came with the dish. No big complaints about the food. The noise level in the place is pretty high, probably because the place is wide open. This noise was apparent even when the live musician was playing. There was a DJ that started at 9 and he did a great job of mixing up the music genres. The crowd really picked up around 10 and the age group of the crowd was pretty diverse but leaned toward the 20/30's group. Overall this seems like a fun place to hang out or have dinner. The noise level is high so if you're looking for quiet/intimate then this isn't you're place. I will add that since it is winter we found the restaurant seating area to be pretty cold. There are 2 exit/entry doors on that side of the building and every time the door opened the cold air rushed in and there was no protection from it. The heat didn't appear to on very high so the cold drafts made it tough. We actually moved tables once to avoid the cold from the door opening. Overall the experience was great and we would definitely consider going here again. read more
