Been coming here for years. It's like the old tv show Cheers, where everybody knows your name. The staff for the most part has been here for a long time which is a good sign that the place is good and treats their staff well. There have been quite a few new staff that probably still need to learn but are trying, but for the most part the Friday, Saturday, Sunday crew are the best. You never have to wait for anything. They know your name. Jennifer, Silvia, Dillan, Marleen are among the best. The hostess Nina is top notch. They all make you feel right at home. There is a new girl Charlie who is a new favorite. The place is warm and cozy. The food is kind of old school but always good. All in all, I am happy when I walk through those doors and am greeted by name by the staff. read more

A local own restaurant located in a very cozy neighborhood. The ambiance of this restaurant makes it great for either brunch or dinner. I think it is great for groups and a good date spot because the ambiance itself is relaxed to have a conversation and the location itself is nice for strolling for walk. I really liked my hamburger with hash browns and my sparkling wine ~ i know it is a weird personal combo but I am keeping it classy lol ~ The staff is friendly and although it got busy at times I was very surprised how they still managed to keep their tables checked and the bar tenders where stepping in whenever they saw need it ! Super yummy food and breakfast all day. I had the breakfast burrito with no meat and really enjoyed it. It came with 2 sauces on the side that were good too. all was missing was those little yellow chilis. One of my kids ordered a cheese pizza. Pizza had amazing sauce and super cheesy. Other kid order chocolate chip pancakes with hash browns. She said pancakes were really good. Hash browns were over cooked. read more

My friends and I stumbled upon this spot while looking for a place to eat at in the Gold Coast neighborhood. Situated inside a hotel, 3rd Coast Cafe aims to provide a comfy and homey feeling for one to dine-in. I got the mexican steak and eggs dish. It's much like a regular Steak and Eggs dish, however the bread is tortilla bread and it comes with Pico de Gallo. The steak is also served with cheese which makes it tastier, but the steak itself is a bit smaller than expected. That said, it's still a very delectable and filling meal. 3rd Coast is our local go-to in the area. Have been patrons for so many years. A varied menu, great service and the food is always exactly what we want. Ate here three times over two days last week - don't @ me with "there are so many other places to try." The bowl of chicken soup for dinner was fantastic. Breakfast scones are delicious and shareable. Solid wine list. Food is always served at perfect temperature. In 3 months, this has become my favorite place to be/eat mainly, because of their owner J. She's always in and about talking to guests letting them know who runs the place and myself + frequenter friend eat it up. This last time, she seriously, lectured on following through with things and eliminating, "will try to" from my life. Won't forget it. The first time we met J, she gifted us each a scone for the road which was super appreciated. Both of us did the same and saved them as long as we could because they are as solid as they are large. The durable-exterior, consistency with subtle, inner softness alongside the rasp/blueberry or lemon is so good and can snack on for over a day. She makes a point to let you know the baker has been doing it 30+ years. We go there because it just feels like home and get the all-day breakfast each time since the vibes never fail. read more

I have been here before, and this time, as usual, the food and great service were excellent. It was 1:00 and they gave us the brunch menu, which was fine. I ordered the Mexican Omlete and she had an egg sandwich. We both loved our choices. She ordered coffee which was diligently refilled when the cup was close to being empty. I had an Irish Coffee which went down well. The ambiance was wonderful, but it was crowded because of its popularity. I nearly missed 3rd Coast Cafe as it's in a very unassuming location, especially compared to other brunch/breakfast places in the Gold Coast area. It has a quaint and cozy interior, and I'm surprised it's not more popular! Solid American breakfast with a wide variety of options and great bakery items. I enjoyed my Farmers Omelet and heard great things about the Pulled Pork Hash from my friends. The blueberry scone was also delicious, and I'd come back just to try some of their other baked goods! easy to miss and hard to forget delicious food and great service. they were fully packed on a sunday but fast turnover so we only had a 15 min wait so don't be discouraged if you see a long line it moves quickly. food was filling and the bloody mary was spicy so be careful if you don't like spicy. the breakfast sandwhich with sausage was filling and better with hot sauce so make sure to ask for that. read more

Sqirl in L.A., at Balthazar in N.Y., Tartine in S.F. the The Peppermill in L.V. (and this list goes on) all sporting lengthy waits for a "coveted table". Uncle Mike's here in Chicago on 15° day during a snow storm I saw people waiting on the sidewalk for 30 minutes + (I was one of these clowns). That's proof be told about the legend of this meal! I bring this up because after a robust jog this morning with my wife we started to head home, on Dearborn St. We walked past The 3rd Coast Cafe and we were hungry and it was packed (to over flowing). I didn't want to wait for a table and my wife did. We all know the outcome here! I have to admit that this Cafe did smell good, ran like a precision watch and had a great Brunch menu. So, I shut my mouth like a good little boy, twiddled my thumbs and sat there and waited. The wait was about 30 minutes; and now looking back, it was well worth the wait. I had a pretty terrific tuna melt with a pretty fantastic Caesar salad. My wife had bacon and eggs with toast that she loved. I get the Saturday / Sunday brunch thing. Wow! This place was super busy, which I figured was a good sign. The coffee was but the food was not great. I ordered the Betty Bene. The bread and veggies were cold. The Hollandaise sauce came in a ramekin on the side in a fairly small portion and was also just lukewarm and tasted kind of sweet vs tangy and creamy. One of my go to breakfast spots in Gold Coast. Walking in feels like you've stepped back in time when cafes were at every corner from vintage decor to the heavily furnished wood interior. Just feels like a place you won't be rushed while enjoying your breakfast and coffee. The menu is vast and there seems to be a choice for every appetite and dietary restriction. Size of the cafe is great, it's big enough to accommodate a crowd but not so big that the noise level takes over the room. The wait staff is friendly and given the moderate size of the cafe the servers are always close by. Because of this service has never been an issue for me unlike some places where you might not see your server for long periods at a time. Prices are fair and portions reflect it well. I stop in when I'm on a blueberry pancake kick and rarely am I able to finish the plate! read more

We went here on a rainy Thursday evening and it was so cozy and perfect. We ordered the chicken peanut soup which was very peanut-y and perfect for rainy weather. We also ordered the burger and grilled chicken sandwich with side of salad. I'm a huge sucker for rustic toasted bread which is the type of bread the grilled chicken came on. So good! We ended with a chocolate scone and it was hugeeeee enough for the three of us to share! Unfortunately, due to hunger, the only food picture I remembered to take was of this lovely scone :) Will definitely be back to enjoy some more scones! read more
