Very tasty coffee across from the Krikorian theater. This place is very busy and i see why... Its across from the theater and from other local places around the neighborhood. I saw a lot of people ordering food here so it must be good! Coffee selection is great and they are known for their "white thunder" (wifi password *cough *cough). The girls at the place were very friendly and willing to answer any questions or recommend a few items on the menu. They have outdoor seating which is nice...will i come back? Absolutely. read more

If you are looking for a place with amazing sandwiches, this is the place to go! I have not had a bad sandwich from here and I come a lot. Today I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich with added chipotle sauce and avocado. It was soooo good! I highly recommend 3rd street. I love this lil gem. Their lattes, coffees, and paninis are delicious. My favorites are the matcha green tea latte, horchata, dulce de leche, and white chocolate mocha. I've been going to 3rd St. Coffee for more than 10 years in Downey. I love the service and the ambience is chill. I like having current magazines to browse while waiting for my order. The wifi is fast and the restroom is usually very clean. My go to order is their chicken salad sandwich on squaw bread. Today I ordered the chicken salad on top of the fresh garden salad with the toasted squaw on the side. I like it plain with only the chicken salad because it truly is flavorful and fresh on its own. My only issue is the turn around with the staff, there are new faces training every time I go and I'm always watchful to make sure they get my order right which creates a slight anxiety as I hate having to speak to the owner about something negative like getting my order wrong. I'm curious why the owners have a problem keeping employees. Anyone reading this, if you worked there, what's up? read more

The best place to grab a bite before or after a movie across the street at the Kriokorian Theaters. Very reliable and a mom and pop operation. I love coming here when I'm in the area (namely getting lunch with hubby). I have to stop in and get the Dulce de Leche hot coffee which has yet to disappoint. (The iced is not that good.) My daughter has tried their breakfast sandwich (don't remember which) and loved it. Definitely a must try spot. read more

The only times I've gone here to grab something to eat is either before a moive or during my hair session next door at Zorina's. I usually get a bagel for my daughter and I grab a muffin. I have tried the Chicken panini and that is also good. Kinda of slow service but overall good food and deserts. read more

I used to frequent this cafe almost daily whenever I'd come back to Downey during my college breaks. I loved that it was a local shop as I've always been keen on supporting small businesses. However when I moved back to LA for good I went back to visit this cafe like cafe I have in the past and had an absolutely HORRIBLE experience. I sat down for no more than ten minutes and by the time I had opened my laptop and got everything settled, the owner demanded I leave bc I hadn't purchased anything. I was a bit taken back and explained to him that I had every intention of purchasing a drink and something to eat once my stuff was settled And he just shook his head at me with disgust and demanded I leave the premises. I am a little biased but I love 3rd street coffee. My friends and I have been coming here since high school and we're all in our 20s. Trust me, you can not go wrong with coming here, all of their breakfast and lunch items are delicious. They're coffees, their teas are all great. I'd recommend the chicken breast deluxe followed with hazelnut or caramel macchiato! Like I said, give it a try you're going to love it read more

The absolute worst service and unfriendly. I came in to drink coffee and work and asked, who looks like the manager or owner (Asian older lady), if they had plugs in the wall. She came from around the counter to tried to look in my rolling bag to see what I'm charging. She said a computer is ok. She said "I don't want you using up our electricity." I said "what else would I be charging?" I just threw my hands up and said never mind. I tried to give them business and not go to Starbucks. But I guess she wants me to go to Starbucks where I won't be harassed and investigated and I get free refills of coffee. This woman is a miser and should not be in the customer service business. She should be an accountant or work for the IRS. read more

Found this spot through yelp and checked it and it's become one of my favorite coffee places! People are really nice, the couches are comfortable and it's a good place to have lunch or get a cup of coffee. Nice little place. Like to come here from time to time. I try to remember to try to shop at the little mom and pop store. Workers had gloves and mask on . Saw hand sanitizer by the trash can. If you come here, don't be in a rush . They are smaller and dont have as much staff as Starbucks so patience is key. Alot of people seem to order food to . Cute little local spot where I get a really good breakfast sandwich : egg white & cheddar cheese croissant. For non breakfast I loveeee their tuna melt panini which comes on sourdough and I always ask for the chipotle spread instead of the regular mayo. Sooo good. Very affordable (4.50 croissant and $6.95(?) tuna melt. I did try their iced coffee a couple of times but it always tasted sour and off :/ so for this reason I don't get coffee here. read more

This establishment is, by no means, a hidden gem. Yes the muffins are good, the croissants as well (even though its super small), and the iced coffees to, but the thing that I don't understand, are the prices! I'm not one of those douchebags that love chains like starbucks or coffee bean (unless the person making my drink does it well), but when you compare things like the croissants and sizes (of the drinks), the chains do have the upper hand. This place is by no means, a bad place, but if your looking to be charged way to much tea, then by all means come here. I'm all for bringing back business to main street, and stripping corporations of there monopolies and what not, but hey, I'm an American on a budget, and Main Street (figure of speech, its actually on 3rd Street) is just too darn expensive for me, so I guess the chains win out again. Good customer service, the older asian couple who own it are really nice to me and my little family, and there always nice (theother workers). Don't go on Friday or Saturday nights because it'll be full of idiot teenagers and BAD PARENTS who are pushing along a stroller with a two month old, who just came out of the theater! Needless to say, avoid teenager nights and the nights when the cholo and gangbanger people come up from they're sh.t hole cities around Downey. I used to come here every once in a while during my lunch break since I work nearby, but I always felt like the manager had a really negative attitude. You can kind of tell the employees feel uncomfortable around her, and I've even come in during the afternoons before and overheard employees talking badly about her, which says a lot about the work environment. Today really crossed the line though. I walked in and asked for the restroom code, and she told me I had to buy something first. I said I would, but that I really needed to go. She let me use it, but the restroom was honestly disgusting--like a gas station restroom. It was dirty and clearly not being maintained. I used it as quickly as I could and let her know there was a mess so someone could take care of it. Instead, she went to check and then blamed me for it. She said I made the mess, told me I was banned from the store, and even said I had to clean it. I was honestly shocked and just left. I would not recommend this place. The service is uncomfortable, and even the coffee is inconsistent. read more

I'm a regular here and am surprised at how far the lengths people like Paige go to in order to entertain themselves. The bathroom has never looked like her picture and the owners constantly check the bathrooms every hour or so to make sure it's clean. This cafe is an intimate establishment and the owners here are kind and show up to work every day. All of the workers here are very friendly and attentive when asked about their personal recommendations. The food is made to order and albeit it does take some time to get it during rushes. But I'll happily wait! The chipotle chicken panini and turkey provolone are my absolute favorites. I also love the Chai from here, it is so creamy and the horchata latte with espresso is a must try for my fellow sweet coffee lovers! read more

This place used to be a cool place to hang out. But now the owner has something against me and a friend because we sit here for two hours, but we are constantly buying things, and using the wifi. I dont care much for this place anymore. I even go to their other establishment across the street which their son used to run until he left for college. He enjoyed having my friend and i there. He knew how to run a business and keep his customers happy. He will be back in four months to take over his business again and i cant wait. Think twice before sitting in here with a laptop and drinking coffee because in Joe's words, "i dont care if you buy anything, i dont want you here very long." read more

Always fantastic service, awesome food and expert. However, via no fault of the owners, a person turned into sitting interior the shop playing his espresso, talking on the smartphone, without a mask on. He may want to have sat outside however did not. The owner saw him, stopped and starred, however said nothing. The proprietor should be the only to tell him to thrill sit down outside as a masks is required internal and there are signs each in which that country that. read more

This coffee shop is a great spot to relax and enjoy quality food and drinks. The sandwiches are very good, there's a wide variety of desserts, and the drinks are consistently high quality and taste excellent. The place is clean, including the bathroom, which I really appreciate. There's almost always a seat available, and it's not overcrowded with students hogging tables.
