Good coffee with a side of good vibes. My go to for an afternoon pick-me-up after way too many meetings

Pastry review only -- top 3 bran muffins I have ever tried... moist and lovely, rich with flavor, color of the bran muffin was beautiful. Good sized too-- Raspberry Danish insufficient pastry cream and fruit--/ ratio was wrong. The dough felt too much like bread for me. Croissant au amandine was meh--- have def had much better. Customer service was fabulous

Why did no one tell me about this place when I worked two blocks from here. This would have been the place I would have spent all my lunch breaks. It had such a modern fun vibe, that one could spend hours hanging out in. Not to mention the yummy coffee. I had a there special which was the Thai Tea Latte. It was unique and delicous. I wish them much success.

Excellent, flavorful, creamy latte, but service was sub par. We asked if latte can be hotter, they didn't offer to redo (not uncommon), just said microwave only. Wouldn't mind tipping for the redo. They use Corva coffee beans but have their own blend

#47 in my Coffeeshop Chronicles. 40 LBS is a fairly interesting coffeeshop with a modern industrial design and gear/mechanical themed decor. The cafe is spacious and service was friendly. They have a few flavor syrup options for their lattes and I ordered an iced lavender latte, which I enjoyed.

Love the feel of this place, the decor is great and the coffee is perfect. Some pastries to snack on as well. Just a nice place to hand an chill while planning what is next for the city.

I have high expectations for chai tea in Portland. to be honest I was a bit disappointed - quite a few chai latte are underwhelming and lack of the kick from the spice:( But 40 LBS is different. The way they present the chai is so well put together - all the elements are there, and the visual presentation is just charming. It was such a good cup of chai in the raining day. Five stars.

Per Covid we could stop at any coffee shop and set up our laptops and get to work. Fueled with a warm cup of jo and a snack. Whatever our fancy, it was just easier...am I right? I was driving around and calling different shops to work for a little while. I get it. We're still in a pani. Third times the charm! I'll say Super happy I found this place! The crew is cool! The guys are fun and chat it up with everyone that comes it. It has its regular and I love that they are personable with everyone. It's what the world needs. Oh...the coffee? It's awesome! I got drip coffee with sugar and cream. It was perfect! A nice hug in a cup Check them out...you'll be happy you did!

Great staff. The owner has transformed this space into a tranquil, relaxing escape in the middle of a bustling city. We came here for breakfast and coffee/matcha. We were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful music and tables adorned with books. 10 out of 5 stars. Thank you for creating such a lovely atmosphere.

This reminds me of the Korean cafes that are sprinkled all over Southern California. We were delighted to see it here! I ordered a black sesame late and a black sesame mochi donut. Being only one barista, right after you order, he makes your drink immediately. You can hear and see the espresso shots being made and the ice filling your cups. Dependent on your order, he pulls out the cream for the top. I can see the black sesame cream top being very thick and full. A lot of patrons were ordering their tiramisu latte, and I don't blame them! It's what is very popular here. Personally, I enjoyed the black sesame latte very much. It was the perfect amount of cream and sweetness. The taste didn't overpower the coffee, which is nice. Their mochi donuts were good, too, with the consistency of mochi dough. Definitely would make another stop here if I'm ever around!

They are located outdoors within a repurposed trimet station, which add such a a unique Portland touch to their vibe. Although usually a 1-2 person operation, drinks always come out relatively quick! I tried the tiramisu latte and the black sesame latte. The tiramisu latte was easily my favorite. The cream top is rich and delicious, and when mixed into the coffee it really tastes like a classic tiramisu dessert. It's sweet, smooth, and feels like a treat without being overwhelming. The black sesame latte was also great, especially if you like nutty flavors. It has a natural sweetness with a deep roasted sesame taste that almost reminds me of peanut butter, making it both comforting and unique. I've also had their regular latte before and really appreciate the quality of their espresso. The coffee itself has a smooth, balanced flavor that stands out even without added syrups or toppings. A great spot to visit if you enjoy creative specialty drinks but still want genuinely good coffee underneath it all.

It manages to be effortlessly cool without being intimidating, and the quality of the coffee is consistently top-tier. Here is why it's my favorite corner of the Pearl District: The Coffee Curation: What sets Barista apart is that they are a multi-roaster cafe. They feature a rotating selection of the best beans from across the country (and locally!). Whether you're drinking a pour-over or a traditional macchiato, the flavor profiles are always distinct and expertly pulled. Masterful Latte Art: The baristas here are true artists. Every drink looks like a masterpiece, but more importantly, the milk texture is always silky and perfectly steamed. The Aesthetic: The space is stunning. With its dark wood accents, industrial-chic lighting, and those massive windows looking out onto the cobblestone streets of the Pearl, it's the perfect spot to people-watch or get lost in a book. It feels like a cozy, sophisticated library for coffee lovers. The Staff: Despite being one of the busiest spots in the neighborhood, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They are always happy to nerd out about tasting notes or help you pick a bag of beans to take home. The Vibe: It's a great balance of "neighborhood regular" and "must-visit destination." It captures that classic Portland energy perfectly. Pro Tip: Pair your drink with one of their fresh pastries--their selections are always fresh and complement a bold espresso perfectly. Love how amazing the staff is. And the coffee is chef's kiss. Thank you!

The vibe is definitely small bar coffee shop, probably more grab and go than dine in. For my visit, I opted for two espressos, their house blend and a Coava single origin. Unfortunately, both suffered from a grind that was a little too fine, resulting in bitterness that was overwhelming in each. The single origin had some promise, with some pleasant acidity in the background, but it couldn't break through the bitter. Things were a little better in my wife's mocha, which had a deep chocolate flavor and silky smooth milk, it paired well with the cinnamon knot pastry we shared. Maybe a place to stick with the milk drinks, or at least this was my experience on this day.
