Damn you Skrimshaw and your new found popularity! After a sample I was hooked on you for the rest of the evening...a now I notice you everywhere! But enough about the beer. I turned up here on a Monday night to catch up with an old friend. Looking to expand my horizons and following the recommendations from my follow Yelpers I picked this place and wasn't disappointed. As my friends will attest to, I'm a fond fan of dark, mellow, relaxed venues and on a Monday thats exactly what I got. Think Verdugo bar with parking, or the Black boar without the TV's. I got there just after it opened at 6, so it was practically empty, but the jukebox filled the void with Jacques Dutronc creating a lounge vibe that instantly made me feel at home. The place is spacious with comfortable booths and rows of bar seating. I understand that before its latest incarnation the windows were covered. Now they offer a great view over Los Angeles. I adore this little dark and seductive bar. It wasn't crowded at all on a Friday night (Coachella weekend) and we found a parking spot without a problem. We were also able to sit comfortably at a corner table. The decor here is very vintage and the drapes on the ceiling give it an Arabian twist. Drinks are great, reasonably priced, and zero attitude from the bartenders. Lovely for a girls night out or a date. This is my new favorite bar! read more

This is my favorite bar in LA. No doubt about it. Dark and cozy. Divey, but classy. Casual and stylish. Bartenders are all great, helpful, and friendly. There are no TVs so don't expect to watch a game there, but it forces people to be more socially interactive. Great for meeting people or bringing a date. There is a decent jukebox inside and while it's not being used the employees usually have respectable playlists going. The door men are cool cats and fun to talk to. I have been to this place a ton and never once had a bad experience. Don't be a coward, have a look for yourself. A few things: -This is a late night bar, so my friend and I are one hair of pride away from wearing our fuzzy slippers in at 11pm. Don't think we're too good to talk about how it's past our bedtime while we're at the bar stools nodding off into our Manhattans. -This is Silverlake, not Costa Rica. That's what I have to tell myself every time I make stinky eyes at a boy for catching glances with me for an hour and not budging from his bar stool across the way. Last time was actually the second time I had been to this bar. But, the first time I was so fashnicked that I can't tell you much about the night (except that it involved 4 shots and 4 martinis and a looooong ride home). This time I was much more sober but I still had a great time. We were able to snag one seat at the bar and with a little time and a little luck we had four seats for four of our butts!! The bar is split in half. The last time both sides were open but this Thursday night only half was open. Frankly, they would have benefited from having both sides open. There was more than enough people there and their patrons would have been infinitely more comfortable! Other than that I had a great time. I ordered 4 shots, one french martini & a jager and red bull. My bill was $48. I feel that that is more than reasonable!! I appreciate the reasonably priced nature of all their drinks. Good grief. I was tempted to walk into this place the other night. My one night every three weeks where I take a night for some fun of my own that doesn't include a mouse or some latin american explorer kid chasing jaguars. So, what was I thinking? I was thinking about a time when I was younger and meeting young dudes with better hair than me and climbing up the hills to get to my truck...Wow. I have changed and 4100 has not. Dimly lit, comfy booths and couches...great looking people. The drinks are as I remember them, but to be honest I felt old and silly and just kept waiting for the guy I met there 7 years ago to show up so we could make out on the roof of his building again...oh, nostalgia. One of the best bars in LA. It really should be 4.5 stars but it's worth it to round up. First off, the music selection is above and beyond any other jukebox in the area. Good luck hearing your song played, though, because people feed quarters into it all night long. This place can be crawling with hipsters but I wouldn't call it a hipster bar. It's cool enough on its own to not need the hipsters to be the only clientele. It can survive without them. The drinks aren't bad and neither is the staff. It can really crowded (my reasoning for only 4.5 stars) so getting a drink can sometimes be a hassle. Know that if you come on the weekends you will likely be squeezing by people all night. The bar is circular so there's always a place to get a drink, though. On the weeknights they close half the bar which just confuses me. I guess they do it to make it artificially more crowded. It's kinda annoying to me so I stopped coming on the weekdays. Overall, really good place and just a great hangout with friends. 4100 Bar is a good place to go if you want to experience the act of drinking whilst sensorially deprived. It's impossibly dark and the music's impossibly loud and the parking was just, well ... impossible. Otherwise, it's a pretty cool spot. The clientele is chill, two gin and tonics came to a grand total of $10 and they served free popcorn, which seems to be de rigure for bars of the eastside variety these days. One of the funnest bars in East LA. It has a speakasiesh, dark atmosphere. This place is SUPERB for a date. It is classy, chic and has just the right amount of casual portentousness. Would of gotten 5 stars, but almost every night it is is flooded with hipsters and people coming across town just because they've read yelp reviews. Seating inside was hard to find because it was relatively crowded. As i left around 11pm there was a line outside. The crowd seems somewhat Hollywood... as if everyone on the Westside moved over to the Eastside. Service was great... bouncers up front were kind. 4100 Bar is a great local bar that's actually pretty romantic. It's dim and moody with exposed brick walls. They have tasty affordable drinks but the bartenders don't take 10 years to make a drink or have an attitude . Ralph is the manager but hes always behind the bar helping out and hes super friendly ask him for suggestions and hell make you a bombtastic drink and Natalie is my favorite bartender there she makes a drink called the "Honey Bee" its whiskey with lemon and honey yumm!!! read more

Scenester dive meets Bangkok opium den in the heart of Silver Lake. A few years back I had the most lusciously sublime/alcaholic moment at the 4100; my dark comedy life had finally been rewritten as a musical and every hipster at the bar burst into spontaneous song as "Sweet Caroline" came on the juke box. This got me feelin all warm and fuzzy inside (touching you, touching meee) but things got even better as "Nuthin but a G Thang" came on next and the sing along continued full force. Only in Silver Lake could you find an entire bar full of people who know the lyrics to both Neil Diamond and Dr. Dre. read more

Never fails me! I found this place with a good friend of mine, we were driving around...lost looking for a bar - we found this one instead. From the outside it didn't look like anything special - but don't judge a book by its cover. This place has a great ambiance. Nice lighting, attentive bartenders and a trendy crowd. Makes it perfect for a couple of beers with the boys or a glass of wine with the chica. *Parking is always a struggle, but its worth parking a couple blocks away to walk. *Most people are dressed trendy or hipster-esque. Have had it recommended to me on multiple occasions, but it's a pretty uninspiring bar (uninspiring as in, if I'm trying to decide if I'm going out drinking one night, the idea of hitting up this place isn't exactly gonna tip me in the right direction). Hands down my favorite bar... mix in a great crowd, good drinks, killer jukebox and great decor and you have this spot. Occasionally youll get the douchebags who wandered away from Miyagis and somehow ended up at the 4100 from a tip from a much more down to earth friend, but for the most part you will get a great crowd there, it is very diverse but yes most of the folk in there are a little more on the artsy side, youll find lots of indie music fans, readers, independent film watchers and so forth there but none to the point that they are snobs about it. A typical "hey girl, wanna dance" pickup line wont work here, youll need more substance. The bartenders do an excellent job getting your drinks out quickly and making them stiff, as long as you tip. I would recommend getting there a bit early because it does get packed but once you get settled in, its a great place to be. I celebrated my birthday there, my friend is celebrating hers there and at any chance we get, thats our spot. First off, the juke box is bullshit, at least on weekends. You can put money in it all day, and it will never play. The songs being played arent even on the juke box, maybe they should turn the fuckin thing off on days where its not being used. That said, I like the place. Its got a laid back loungy vibe, no TV's and therefore no jocky deaushbags screaming at them. Dimly lit, decent prices for beer, liquor gets pricey. Also the blonde bartender yelled at me because she has the communication of a retarded infant. Aside from a person not paying, or being rude, there is zero reason for a bartender to cop an attitude. Meh, not entirely impressed. For some reason my roommates always want to go here, but I couldn't see why when I went for the first time. 4100 calls itself a "lounge" but the music, which is a strange and disorienting mix of bad 90s alt rock and new hip hop, is far too loud to qualify for lounge material. The drinks are priced OK but the bartenders are flighty and impossible to get ahold of. The decor and hanging drapes might be more interesting if the constant visual and audio overstimulation weren't so distracting. At closing time, I stood outside waiting for my friends to materialize and I bore witness to a seemingly endless stream of sloshed, insecure weirdos file out. Was here with J.S. last night. I've been to this place a couple of times. It's a simple space - huge long bar in the middle with tables/ottomans lining the perimeter. Silverlake/Echo Park to me is a nice break from Hollywood/Westside scene, but I'm not down with hipsters + beards. 4100 is a good mixed crowd. Like J.S. said, stiff drinks for cheap and fast service by super nice bartenders. Music is way too loud with crappy speakers. And people dance weird here. Very laid back. After years of passing by this place, I decided to give it a shot the other night [a Saturday night]. Overall this place is very cool - unassuming, but cool. The center bar is surrounded by unique decor: bunker meets zen temple meets harem No entrance fee and reasonably priced drinks. The crowd is a bit older - like hipsters growing out of their uber hipster phases. I'll gladly visit this place on another night - Saturday do not allow for much sitting space! I was here when the salvage yard was in the back, the toilets didn't work all the time and the jukebox had nothing but rock-n-roll and one notorious big cd. You know, back in '05-'06 when the 'hot' bartenders were doing lines in the bathroom or in the freezer. Lol. Back when the Koji truck was new and would stop right in front of the bar and cause pandemonium. I loved it then because it was a true dive bar. This is my Cheers... everyone knows my name here and I've been coming to 41 on and off for a decade. They've really cleaned up this place since my heyday!! I love this place, I love my old staff and I love the new staff. I especially appreciate the new owners for taking care of my favorite neighborhood watering hole and making things happen. Came here on a Friday night. After trying to go to Little Temple and being told "This is a club, not a bar". Then walking to Eagle LA and being told "This is a gay bar" We ended up at 4100 Bar. As soon as we walked to the door the music was already calling us in. Got there at 9ish and there was already a good crowd. We found a booth among the cool seating they have. The drinks were strong and not expensive. Its a great atmosphere to just hangout and drink. read more

Love it, we had a great time:) very chill atmosphere, all staff is wonderful - from security to the bartender. Rich who makes hotdogs and ribs outside is PHENOMENAL!! Seriously, I haven't tried a tastier hotdog ever. Beer and cocktails inside were good. The crowd is amazing, met many nice people and had a few pleasant simple conversations. Parking seems tight, but I can walk there from home which is also huge plus :) definitely will be stopping by more often, thank you guys! read more

I came here last night to meet up with a hottie... And it was a great "first date" place... very laid back, dim lighting so it makes for a good intimate conversation, and no over-the-top obnoxious drunkies (at least not on a Monday night!).I especially love the fact that they have their own *FREE* parking lot (which is small, so it fills up fast). I arrived at about 930PM, and there were people seated all across the bar and even in all the booths across the left wall, but it was not overly crowded. It seemed like there were a mostly groups of friends--not many singles--hanging out. The back booths were empty, so we shacked up in one of them. I actually liked where we sat, because we had a view of the entire bar, and therefore, I got a good feel for it: I like how dark it is and the little candles everywhere add just the right amount of minimal lighting. The multi-colored drapes that hang from the ceilings give the place a unique look. He quickly got us a round of drinks.... ya know, to relieve the first date jitters..I had a vodka soda and it sure did pack a punch... JITTERS BE GONE! By about 1030/11pm the bar was quickly filling up (on a Monday night?!) I guess the hipsters love Monday night drinking!! I'd definitely come here again to meet up with a hottie, or even to hang with friends.... =) read more

Holy Hell! I actually found a parking space in the LOT of this bar. Finding parking when you go out in LA is so rare that it should be considered an urban legend. With that said, I really dug the dim-lit scene of this place and, of course, the music. There was ample seating throughout the venue and the people didn't seem to obnoxious. This place has happily became my local lair. I love the group of usuals that can be found at the bar on any given sunday (tyson, being the most boisterous of the bunch) and the lovely bartendenters i now call my friends, (pretty girl, v-neck, and Ralph), ok so maybe we are all not on a first name basis, but we still look out for each other when the LA riffraff somehow stumbles upon our serene mecca of a watering hole and tries to overload it with douchery. Anywho, people for the most part are friendly here, and it is not a successful night at the 4100 unless you hear MGMT play on the jukebox at least twice. drinks are strong and the parking (somehow) always plentiful, 4100 is my favorite bar in LA, so grab a stella and sit and talk to Ralph about lance armstrong, you won't be sorry. Perhaps I came on a bad day. Or perhaps my soul is too old. Peter & I came here for a Bon Voyage hangout as one of his friends is moving to Australia. They had a table right by the speaker. The music was so loud that I got a headache. We went to the bar to get a beer, but the bartenders were running around and it was suuuuper difficult to get their attention. After about 10 minutes of standing and waiting, we finally made contact with the bartender and placed our orders. Got our beers and returned to the loud table. His friend was talking to us, but I barely caught a word she said. Eventually Peter's yearning for his younger days was defeated by the loud music, and he finally agreed it was time to go home. Cute place when you're young and spry; No good when you're a grandma and grandpa in spirit. OH and parking can be problematic. read more

So many experiences here. The jukebox is fairly decent. The drinks are strong. The people are...well....it's a mix. I had a Matt Damon lookalike schmooze me the last time I was here. I tend to take a turn about the room every 10 minutes if I'm bored. But sometimes there is plenty to do....case in point....one of the last times I came to drink the electricity went out. As soon as they got the backups on the lights illuminated the room so that you could see what everyone actually looked like. I immediately witnessed a few "morning after" responses right there in the room, right there in front of us. I never thought much of seedy fellows turning tail and running but in this particular circumstance it was extremely enjoyable. Oh yes, it is all about entertainment. Goddamn you 4100 and your stupid jukebox! Just as my date was nuzzling into my neck, suddenly Whip It comes on. Expect people to snog to Devo and you are living in a different era. Not that it didn't give us something to laugh about, but the timing was awful. That one incredibly sexually frustrating instant aside, this was a fun night. The drinks flowed strong, and the man serving them was easy on the eyes. He also was totally cool with passing me a few glasses of water to sober up my date ( whose convertible I would not have gotten behind the wheel of, no matter how sober). As I left to get the water a set of super drunk college kids came and made friends with us, an amusing and not unwelcome addition to our party. The bouncer was a bit of an ass, assuming that we had parked deliberately to make things difficult when the car parked next to us must have left fairly early into the night. However, its nice to note that parking is free and we were able to get a spot on a Friday evening. Im guessing the decor isn't Moroccan because there's a very large Buddah on the back wall. I visit southern california once every 2 months or so, and the only place i go is 4100. It all started when a girlfriend told me all about how theres an amazing bar right around the corner from her house that i would bsolutely love...boy was she right- I have been going to 4100 for over 2 years now; The bouncers remember you after your first visit (i love you antonio and eric) The bartenders are ON you as soon as you hit the stool... I went here last night to meet some old friends in town for a wedding. This is the absolute worst place we could have went (I didn't pick it). The music was at an insane level, talking was nearly impossible and the jukebox was mostly playing house music more suited for a dance club instead of a bar. I've heard it's more mellow here during the week, but it was absolutely awful on a Friday night. To add to the fun, after delivering my drinks, the bartender returned my change in a nice big puddle of beer of course soaking the money, nice. The trend of bars turning into clubs is disturbing to me; has anyone seen "Idiocrcacy" by Mike Judge? It seems alarmingly relevant in Los Angeles today. 4100 BAR OWNERS: TURN THE JUKEBOX DOWN!!!! People will still come and spend money even if they can hear each other, you don't own a dance club. Get out of Silverlake and move to Hollywood if that's what you want to do. FIRST DATES!!! That's all I can say. It is going to pack up pretty nicely, but if you show up at 9pm (way too early for the regular crowd), you can definitely suss out whether or not the date is going anywhere. Grab a drink, slide back to the dimly lit couchy-things/booths on the back wall and let the mojo get to workin. Best part about it, if the date doesn't workout, you prolly only have another Stoli and 7 to drink before it'll start to swell with singles ready to mingle. Also a great place to bring a group of 5 or more, but be sure to send a scout early to score you prime real estate, otherwise you're gonna be smooshed and the ladies in your group wearin stilettos are gonna be whinin!! read more
