We went to 4 JG's this weekend and I'm sorry to report was one of the least favorite wine tasting experiences we have had so far in the state. We are on a mission to visit every vineyard in the state and have been to over 30 so far in NJ. When you first walk in you are offered 2 different choices for tastings. $10 per person or $15 per person. The $10 dollar tasting only includes a few tastings maybe 3 or 5 wines. For $15 you get 3 reserve reds and 3 choices from the top portion of the wine menu. It's not all about the money, but $30 for 2 people to try 6 wines is a little high for Jersey Winery standards. Many we have visited are $10 and you get to try 8, 10 or as many as 12 wines. Now the fun starts. After being stuck in the front foyer of a converted farm house waiting to pay you are given tickets. 6 to be exact. You walk 10 feet into an adjoining room where there is a small table with 2 bartenders who are pouring the wines. Your packed into the room like cattle. Tickets in hand like your at the local carnival with tickets for the rides. The bartenders don't give you personal service explaining each wine like they do at almost all the other vineyards. As a matter of fact our bartender was more interested in what his co-worker was saying to some guest that he wasn't paying any attention to us and we had to ask a few times for our next selection to try. You feel rushed to get your samples and move on so the others waiting behind you can get a chance to taste the wines. THE WINE WAS REALLY GOOD! which is a shame because the experience was not fun at all. Needless to say after paying $30 for a tasting for two that lasted about 10 minutes, we had no interest in giving them more of our money to purchase their wines. Again, it's a shame because we liked their wine. They really need to change the process here. Adjacent to the tasting table was another room. They really need to make a second area for tastings to take place. Truth be told it's not all about the wine or the money. It's about getting away from the daily grind and enjoying an experience. This one was not very enjoyable. I would have bought at least 2 or maybe 3 bottles but not after spending $30 for that experience. In contrast: We went down the road about 10 minutes to Fox Hollow Winery and had a fantastic time. They charge $12 dollars per person for a tasting which only includes 5 wines, but the experience was sooooo much better! Joe our bartender was awesome. We had great conversation about the wine and history of the vineyard. Stayed to enjoy a glass each outside enjoying the day. Hopefully they actually read this and think about the overall experience and make a change or two. I'm sure people come here and have a different experience but this is a honest reporting of our visit. read more

Four JG's is another lovely stop on the ever surprising New Jersey wine trail. The location is phenomenal. The house where the tasting room is located is a beautiful 18th century home with much of the original woodwork and is located on sprawling farmland. This city girl was quite impressed. The women who work here are so sweet. I especially loved the older lady who seems to be the JG matriarch...hilarious! For $5 we were able to taste all of their available wine and keep the glass. For the most part their wine was good. I was not wild about their Chardonnay or Cayuga. My favorite offering they had was their 2005 Chambourcin reserve which was beautifully blended with Cabernet franc. They also had a very fun sangria and wine slushie. Four JGs is worth the visit for good wine, great hospitality and beautiful surroundings. read more

Wineries are not the first thing that comes to mind when people think New Jersey. However, calling New Jersey "The Garden State" is not an oxymoron. In the early 90s I discovered a bunch of wineries out in western New Jersey. Many of them were fruit and vegetable farms that figured that if they could grow world class tomatoes then they could grow world class grapes. At the time most of the wines produced by these wineries were the fruity kind. Lately, I have noticed more wineries showing up in Monmouth County. My usual training ride snakes through Colts, NJ and right by 4 JG's Winery. The property is well maintained and is located in the middle of NJ horse country. I usually admire the farm as I am riding by it but I have rode up to the winery when the Wine tasting sign is out in front. I have not actually taste the wine but I asked a couple people what they thought. The response is "It's New Jersey ...". Since these very same people had a case of wine in there hands I am assuming that they do not want to lose their wine snob cred by giving to much praise to a local wine. Based on that I am giving 4 JG's 5 stars. I do not usually drink but I do like to taste wines. It helps me select wines when I am out with a group. There is another vineyard over in Middletown, NJ on Navesink River Road. I am not sure what they are doing with the grapes. They might be selling them or planning on making wine in the future. read more

Well crafted wine , actually you will be pleasantly surprised.It is amazing how much the owners have accomplished in their first foray. The nice part is that they are wonderful people with a fresh idea and a worthy product. Must try on your next shore trip , Colts Neck is more than horses and big houses,this proves it. read more

Nice place for wine tasting locally in Monmouth County. We went on the last day of the season (November) and they were selling glasses $10 and any other glass $8. They had 3-4 white options, 3-4 reds, and one pink, plus a warm cider wine drink that was our favorite. We also bought delicious cinnamon donuts and a cheese platter. In the winter they have fire pits to sit around outside plus a live band. Tons of seating (maybe 20+ tables) outside. read more

We came here as a spur of the moment ladies day out. There was a ten dollar cover charge to sample about 7 wines - three white and four red. Maria was the woman that helped us and she was so knowledgeable about the wines, which was great since my friends and I do not know much about wines. We were also able to meet one of the winemakers and take a small tour of the winery, we saw the barrels and machinery used to make the wine and walked out to the many acres of vineyards. Its a small family owned winery, definitely an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. I ended up buying six bottles for my husband and me. We will definitely come back for another one of their events! read more

I thought this place was super cute, service was awesome and the wines were tasty. However, I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to wineries as I have been to so many at this point, so I'm giving it a 3 out of 5 rating. We went on a cloudy Sunday and packed some cheese and crackers to taste the wine with. For $5 you're allowed to try 5 out of the 6 offerings available. You can also purchase wines by the glass for $5, which I thought was awesome. They had picnic tables setup outside and the place wasn't too crowded, which was nice. Definitely something cute to do when you're in the area. They also have some events setup for a few weekends in the summer and fall which look really cute. Small winery, but they definitely have the potential to grow this and the scenery is beautiful! read more

Excellent winery in Colts Neck! Recently enjoyed a tasting here with my family and was very impressed. Beautiful grounds and very nice host. Wines are all produced on the property. Red wines are delicious, especially the Patriot. Enjoyed the white wine selection as well. Vignole, Vidal Blanc, Big Brook and Chardonnay tasted delicious. Well, I've been to a handful of vineyards/wineries in New Jersey. This one quite frankly has the best wine. I don't even really like whites, but every wine there is delightful. They're very knowledgeable if you want to know more. They're definitely not one of those wineries that chats your ear off about intricacies of wine, and you're like, "shhh I just wanna get my buzz on." But they are more than happy to share their knowledge when asked, and will give you tib bits on each wine. The views are beautiful (especially the girl who pours the wine but also the vineyard) and the snacks are on point And the entire staff is lovely. read more

Had such a lovely time at 4JG! It is a very laid back atmosphere, which really allows for a family-oriented environment that is lacking from other NJ vineyard experiences. The staff is OUTSTANDING and so knowledgeable! Also, you can bring your own food or purchase snacks there, which is a huge plus! I will definitely be back soon! read more

Visited the winery last weekend while trying to work on my NJ Wine Trail book. They were having a chocolate pairing weekend, which was excellent! The grounds are absolutely beautiful, especially at this time in the fall. The old farmhouse where the tastings were is awesome! I love that it was very relaxed inside and you didn't feel rushed at all. They had some cheese, crackers and dips set out, which was a nice touch! The wine and the chocolates were all very tasty! I always especially like when you get to keep the glass! My only complaint really is that the tastings and chocolates didn't flow very well. Getting from one room to the other with the other people there was a challenge. Other than that, great experience. I'm not in this area often at all, but next time I am I will be back! read more

Beautiful setting, and the wine is delicious. There is an excellent variety. . .my favorite is the chardonnay and my fiancée enjoys the Angel Tooth. Nothing like cozying up in an old farm house and tasting some local wines on a cold snowy day. Each wine is very unique and the owners are happy to give you whatever insight you need into the grapes and growing process. Looking forward to getting to try the Chambourcin Reserva once it's bottled. The Vignole and Big Brook White were really nice white wines and we took a few bottles home with us. Visited 4 JG's on Saturday with the friends and family. The owners and help are so friendly, as they made us feel like family. Excellent winery, with beautiful grounds to walk throughout. Buying by the glass was great, but on Saturdays, it's $10.00 for the tasting, as I thought this was a little pricey, knowing Sonoma and Napa are $5.00 & $10.00 and you have several wineries to visit throughout the day. read more

My husband and I adore this vineyard. It's located in the beautiful town of Colts Neck NJ. It's a family owned vineyard, and the owners could not be more friendly. The wines are tasty and the scenery is lovely. The barrel tasting is a must! This gem reminds me of boutique vineyards we visited in Sonoma and Montalcino Italy - nothing mass, mainstream or touristy about it. Enjoy! read more

We got engaged here in the vineyards on 10/29/16 so I guess I'm a little biased, but I enjoyed the winery and doing the Halloween trail they had set up during the weekend before Halloween! Wines were good, it was a little crowded that day but we will definitely be back :) I thought the winery was super cute and the vineyards were beautiful. We were very disappointed in this winery. The vino was OK; not horrible, but not impressive either. My negative rating comes mostly from the horrible customer service. The tasting room was crowded. My sister paid to taste, but was kicked out before receiving any wine because the staff said she had been there "too long." Although I had been there longer, and had already tasted, she had just arrived. The staff completely ignored her when she asked them to refund the money she had paid to taste. It was one of those cases where the person looks right at you as you're speaking, then walks away without any acknowledgement. (And, yes, we were well-behaved guests.) We had planned to tour the winery and purchase at least a case of wine, but left before doing either. We ended up at a nearby Applebee's and drank their wine instead. read more

Went to winery on Saturday. No one greeted us but we finally found out where we had to go. When we found where to go the guy says its $15.00 a person for food, wine tasting, and music. So I thought ok food and tasting get to keep glass we went. Thought it was a little steep but we were there and just said fine. We get up there and the food consisted of a salad which must have been out all day and salsa and chips. I was thinking I was gonna get at least a little sandwich or pasta salad but No! They also had Doritos, barbecue chips and cheese doodles. Lol. So I said ugh what can we do now. They only had one person doing tasting and the music consisted of a guy on a electric piano not even sure he was playing. Lady at food place says this is all we got now. This place closes at 5pm we got there at 2pm. The wine tasting didn't even have all the wines on the list that the guy in the front said we would taste. Music ended at 4pm what the heck and there were plenty of people there doing nothing. Was very disappointed. They real need to step up there act. The location is beautiful with vineyard in the background. It could actually be a fun place. They even cleaned up around us. And made us get up and leave. At least I made conversation with another couple and they were fun. Will never have to go back here. Wines were so so. Maybe would have tasted better with real food versus Doritos. read more

I've been to the 4JG's winery 3 times and have never been disappointed! The wine and chocolate pairing has by far been my favorite event thus far. We were greeted by the owner and made to feel very welcome. After completing the tasting we were asked by the owner if we'd like a tour of the vineyard. They were very gracious, taking us through the vineyard and explaining the process of growing, picking and bottling.
