Nice wine tasting flights. Not really much of a view. Small vineyards maybe good for a daytime date

A cute, calm venue for drinks. They have cheese boards and pretzels for purchase but also allow you to bring your own food--no other alcoholic drinks though. Wine is by the glass and the first one comes with a glass, so it's a couple of dollars more, while subsequent ones are cheaper. So I wonder if you bring the glass back on your next visit, they'll charge you the glass-less price. We got a white, I forget which one, but it wasn't too sweet, which I liked. Our second round we got slushees, which are sweet so they mask how potent the wine can be. The band was also an appropriate volume, which I appreciated, because sometimes you can be yelling in order to hear each other. read more

I'm so glad I found this vineyard on Yelp. Decided to head over here on July 4th about an hour after it opened and luckily only a few parties besides us were there. A tasting is $20 which includes 3 tastings, 1 full glass, and you get to keep the glass as well. For my full glass I got the slushee and it was so cool and refreshing especially on that hot day. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Definitely will be returning to try some more! read more

Came here a few weeks ago for a friends birthday and we all had such a great time! The vineyard space is quite spacious and lovely. There is plenty of seating and fire pits for small and bigger groups! We did the tasting which gave us 3 tastings and one full size drink. I did the rosé, the BB white and the cabernet and they were all stunning! I loveeeed the cabernet, I ended up getting an additional glass of it later. For my full drink I got the Frozen seasonal wine slushy and it was so so incredibly good. I asked one of the workers and he said he believed it was made with the cab so that adds up. You also got to keep the wine glass they gave you which I think is fun, another to add to my ever growing collection. The stand was decorated for halloween with some products to buy, they were also having a sale on their wine so we picked some up. They didn't have a big food selection but we were able to bring your own so that's what we did. They also had live music which was a great touch that I really enjoyed. Overall, I had a wonderful experience here and will definitely be coming back again with my friends. This would be such a cute date spot as well! read more

loved this vineyard! very cozy and the wine was delicious. we brought our own charcuterie but they do have food trucks on saturdays. their wine tasting was perfect and then you choose your wine of choice and get to keep the glass which was sweet. the seasonal slush and their frosé was soooo good! we all got great pictures and bought wine bottles to take home. can't wait to go back! read more

What a cute little vineyard!! Came here for a birthday celebration and this vineyard did not disappoint! We made a reservation prior to arriving and there is a max of 5 or 6 people per table due to COVID restrictions. We were able to bring in our own snacks so one of the girls created our very own cheese and meat charcuterie board! For $20, the wine tasting included 3 samples that you chose from a menu, one full serving of the one you like plus a free glass! The overall favorite was the Vignole for white and the Chambourcin Reserva for the red. And they hooked up the Birthday Girl with a free glass! For me, I was obsessed with the flavor of the Vino Frappe which is like a frozen wine slushee and they used Big Brook Red in the mix. I promise you this is a MUST try. It was perfectly sweet and tart. It was so good we just kept them coming at $7 a pop! Thankfully, we had a 12pm reservation as once 2:30pm hit, the place was packed. They had tables and firepits available depending on what you were in the mood for and they did also offer small snacks for a small fee. They also had live music was was great and as we walked the vineyard, we discovered this amazing swing! It sure made for some good pictures and laughs! This vineyard was excellent! We loved all of our tastings our favorites were the Cayuga white, Vignole, Monmouth blush, and Patriot. Janet the owner was so warm and welcoming and sweet telling us about the history of the vineyard's home. We came on a rainy day and we loved the rustic farmhouse it was in it felt very peaceful. Very nice winery so close to home! I love the fact that every winery you visit is so unique and each has their own unique wines and offerings. 4JG's tasting room and store is located inside a magnificent, landmarked home from 1700. The wide plank wood floors and brick walls give this tasting room a very cozy feel. There are several bar top tables (no seats) and bowls of goldfish on each table to snack on. 4JG's does not offer private events, estate tours or host food truck festivals. What they do offer is a serene setting to have a picnic at one of their picnic tables or fire pit. The owner and employees are very nice too. Hang out the day and bring your own food or just stop in for a tasting. Make sure to check their hours before you go because they are very limited. Don't forget to bring Fido! read more

Definitely a fun experience with friends. I'd recommend going early and making a reservation otherwise you might have to wait. It is very reasonably priced and includes three tastings and one glass. Came here with my husband and the experience was excellent. The trails were not open but we enjoyed the wine tasting. For 12 bucks you were able to taste 6 different wines. So far my favorite is the Angel Tooth. Its sweet but not over bearing. We walked over to where the barrels were and were able to taste the 2019. It was amazing. I cant wait to buy it in a bottle. We sat on the premises and under the shade. The atmosphere was very tranquil and relaxing as well as romantic. We then switch to the Wine Frappe. Omg!!!! That is amazing especially to beat the heat. We loved it so much we brought a few bottles and the frappe kit to host at home. The staff was very friendly and informative. I will definitely be returning with my husband and family. The staff here is wonderful. They are beyond sweet and helpful. We got 3 samples and a glass for $15. We ended up getting another round and a cheese platter. They let you bring food from outside so we ended up making a stop to Wawas close by and brought in some Doritos and sandwiches. We went when it was extremely hot out but it was manageable since they set up tents and had a fan. They also made us take the glasses due to Covid. We ended up with 7 glasses to take home as souvenirs haha. This place is truly amazing. I was worried that this experience wouldn't be as pleasant because of COVID-19. However, this place did not disappoint. There was no indoor siting but length of outdoor seating safely spread out. They even had a fireplace outside!!! The cheese tray was $10 and it was delicious...it was safely pre packed with cheese, crackers, salami, and grapes. My boyfriend and I ended up choosing the BB red wine...it smelled like raspberries!!! But the best part is that you can get up with your free glass of wine and walk around the vineyard...so relaxing and an amazing date idea to go with your partner or friends. Definitely a fun local vineyard to visit, even during Covid! Drinks - The tasting was very affordable and they gave us some nice background info on the local wines. You get to try three different wines of your choice, then a full glass. I tried their vino frappe special over the summer, and it was delicious! Food - We didn't order any food, but they have pre-packaged cheese trays etc. Service - The service was great! We visited the day after a major storm, and their power was still out. But the staff still had a great attitude and made it work, and I really appreciated that. Our waiter also made great recommendations and told us about the local wines. Covid - The staff was wearing masks, encouraged the use of hand sanitizer, and served the tasting in plastic cups. The full glass was served in a real wine glass that they let us take home. The tables were spaced out outside and overall we felt very safe and comfortable. They also let us wander the vineyards (with masks on). read more

Colts Neck, NJ is more than farm land of horses, cows, and big houses where Four JG's is a family owned and operated vineyard where my good close friends (party of five) attained a glimpse of their cellar in a barn/garage. Tastings for $5.00 is available where guests are able to keep their mid to small wine glass. Snacks to clean one's palate are available but their cheese puff is immensely stale for an infinite days old. The multi-grain crackers was tasty to compensate as my very delayed lunch!! The annual NJ Wine Passport is readily available and free to attain here. Service is somewhat friendly but not entirely welcoming and appear okay. The gift shop is cute with little nick nack of all things wine. Here lies my first taste of Chambourcin 2010 which I enjoyed that French Hybrid grape with a rich cherry flavor. read more

First time with friends, came in the fall. Vineyard: it's not huge and not tiny. Wine: I loved the spiced wine. It was my favorite. Atmosphere: They had live music, a fire pit and popcorn. We stopped by on our way home from an errand. The tastings take place in a very old, historic house. Although they make some of their own this winery seems to mostly be a supplier of grapes to others who use then to make wine. They have some sweet wines that are not for us but you may like them. They also have a somewhat unique wine that kind of tastes like liquid jelly, so probably good for desert. I am not sure if they offer tours - the place where the wine is actually made is not apparent. read more

This is actually our third visit to Four JGs and while the first two visits were crowded and sort of lackluster this last visit was a refreshing change. They had a barrel tasting last weekend which was moderated by one of the owners. It is readily apparent that they have a great amount of pride in their vineyard and what they have accomplished since buying the land and planting their grapes. The setting is beautiful and the tasting room is in a very old house that was on the property when it was a working farm. Our "normal" tasting consisted of 10 different wines while the barrel tasting consisted of the 2011 Chardonnay (Good) and the 2010 Cabernet Franc (Not to our liking). Maybe it is due to the extreme heat lately, but we enjoyed the whites and bought a bottle of 2010 Big Brook White. We will definitely return later in the year- perhaps during harvest. read more

Visited for the first time in Sept and it was so good we had to go back in Oct. It's really nice to have the opportunity to do an outdoor tasting in the area--they have firepits and lots of seating where you can enjoy your own picnic. The property and it's vineyards are lovely, as are the family that run the winery. Our server, George, was helpful, gracious and engaging. But, most importantly, the wine is really delicious--first rate--grown and bottled on property. My boyfriend & I went here for the "Soup & Sip" event on our anniversary, which was lovely. The staff was extremely friendly & knowledgeable; they even let us have extra samples of soup & wine for free. Despite not finding a wine I loved, the vineyard was well maintained & beautiful. We went to 4 JG's this weekend and I'm sorry to report was one of the least favorite wine tasting experiences we have had so far in the state. We are on a mission to visit every vineyard in the state and have been to over 30 so far in NJ. When you first walk in you are offered 2 different choices for tastings. $10 per person or $15 per person. The $10 dollar tasting only includes a few tastings maybe 3 or 5 wines. For $15 you get 3 reserve reds and 3 choices from the top portion of the wine menu. It's not all about the money, but $30 for 2 people to try 6 wines is a little high for Jersey Winery standards. Many we have visited are $10 and you get to try 8, 10 or as many as 12 wines. Now the fun starts. After being stuck in the front foyer of a converted farm house waiting to pay you are given tickets. 6 to be exact. You walk 10 feet into an adjoining room where there is a small table with 2 bartenders who are pouring the wines. Your packed into the room like cattle. Tickets in hand like your at the local carnival with tickets for the rides. The bartenders don't give you personal service explaining each wine like they do at almost all the other vineyards. As a matter of fact our bartender was more interested in what his co-worker was saying to some guest that he wasn't paying any attention to us and we had to ask a few times for our next selection to try. You feel rushed to get your samples and move on so the others waiting behind you can get a chance to taste the wines. THE WINE WAS REALLY GOOD! which is a shame because the experience was not fun at all. Needless to say after paying $30 for a tasting for two that lasted about 10 minutes, we had no interest in giving them more of our money to purchase their wines. Again, it's a shame because we liked their wine. They really need to change the process here. Adjacent to the tasting table was another room. They really need to make a second area for tastings to take place. Truth be told it's not all about the wine or the money. It's about getting away from the daily grind and enjoying an experience. This one was not very enjoyable. I would have bought at least 2 or maybe 3 bottles but not after spending $30 for that experience. In contrast: We went down the road about 10 minutes to Fox Hollow Winery and had a fantastic time. They charge $12 dollars per person for a tasting which only includes 5 wines, but the experience was sooooo much better! Joe our bartender was awesome. We had great conversation about the wine and history of the vineyard. Stayed to enjoy a glass each outside enjoying the day. Hopefully they actually read this and think about the overall experience and make a change or two. I'm sure people come here and have a different experience but this is a honest reporting of our visit. read more
