Great pastries, and they're so pretty too!…read more I really enjoyed the mango pastry. It isn't overly sweet, which says a lot coming from an Asian! The mango had the perfect balance of tart and creamy. It wasn't too heavy, and it's easy to finish one by yourself. I also tried the pistachio, and it was really good too! It's nutty with a strong pistachio flavor, and again, not overly sweet. It even has little chunks of pistachio throughout, which adds a nice texture. If you love pistachio, this is definitely the one to get. I would definitely come back and try some of their other flavors!

She took me here. The place was very clean and tidy with a lot of different types of sweet treats. I was there for one thing only. I did ask the gal working if they were made that day and she said yes. We ordered a raspberry, an orange, a coffee bean and the popular mango. This was my 2nd time trying these and our hopes were high BUT the raspberry was just awful the filling was strange and it had just raspberry jam inside,I dint eat it. The mango was okay so we shared that. The coffee bean was just awful as well so we didn't finish that either. The orange was the best of the group but overall just a disappointing experience once again because these are not cheap. I'm starting to think I might just have to give up my journey to find these although there are some places in Vegas that look promising. I don't think Reno has any bakeries that make these. They look so beautiful but the taste is a let down.

I can see why he loves it -- the egg tarts are very custardy and rich, with a lightly eggy flavor but the sweetness from heavy cream in each bite contrasting to the flaky crust. We also got the red velvet cheesecake, which was pretty standard. The strawberry and cream cookie was massive and I loved the strawberry flavor! It was a little too sweet for me but for the average American palette is probably perfect. Since it's quite loud inside it was difficult to communicate about our selections, but service was friendly. Cheesecake was good, lemon bar too sweet for my liking, pumpkin bread ...simply AMAZING, worth a trip just for it. Definitely appreciative for the availability of gluten free treats, even with a limited selection.

Review #933 2025-112…read more Cake/Pastry Order: Red Velvet Cake (red velvet layers filled with cream cheese frosting & iced with european vanilla buttercream), Banana Cream Tart (crispy vanilla tart, bananas, vanilla custard, whipped cream topping), Lemon Blueberry Tart (lemon-infused cream, blueberries, lemon-flavored shortbread), Smack Pie (chocolate ganache, marshmallows, salted caramel & salted peanuts topping, graham cracker crust) Finishing this draft from pandemic lockdown with an old review format. Cuisine: Bakery, with select gluten-free desserts. Price: Affordable/cheap. Restrooms: Not sure since indoor dining isn't available. Parking: Large private lot though there's plenty of businesses that it might be busy during lunch/dinner rush. Atmosphere/Service: Casual; polite & efficient service. NOTE: Restaurant has a website & orders can be placed online, though no menu pics for point of reference. Sinners for decadent desserts & saints for gluten-free delights... Sinners & Saints Desserts offers a splurge for a luscious dessert, yet scrumptious for those that need gluten-free treats. Be mindful that their kitchen is not a dedicated gluten-free one, but precautions are taken to minimize cross contamination. I used to work in the area & came across this bakery, but never got around to trying them out. Since my daughter's birthday was coming up, I thought about trying them out since their desserts were beautifully displayed... they should taste good, right? I ordered the current favorite flavor: red velvet, & asked if they could decorate it with pink flowers & birthday message in red. The cake looks plain with just 3 pink roses, but the birthday cursive was pretty good; however, for the price, it wasn't worth eating a super dry cake. Our family of 4 barely ate 1/3, & tried giving it away to our neighbors, who were also unimpressed. The Smack Pie was supposedly a decadent chocolate lover's sinful treat. It was meh... the ganache wasn't silky-smooth but did taste fudgy, the caramel was hard, & the peanuts were stale. We did enjoy the Banana Cream & Lemon Blueberry Tarts to offset the very dry birthday cake. Luckily, I bought these to compensate for the cake so the birthday girl was happy in the end. Sinners & Saints Desserts sounds like a deliciously tempting bakery but some of their goods miss the mark. I don't think I'll be purposely sinning here much. Recommended: Lemon Blueberry & Banana Cream Tarts.

Chef Yang Soon began developing the reimagined classic Helms Bakery twelve years ago but could not have anticipated the huge changes that were to hit the dining landscape with the Covid pandemic. The decline of going out / dining out, changes in spending habits and the rise of delivery services made this Art Deco styled concept bakery financially unsustainable. Helms has a fascinating history. In 1932 their bread, Olympic Bread, was declared the official bread of the Olympic Games. This led to worldwide recognition. Delivery wagons, or coaches, brought bread, doughnuts and other baked goods to Angelenos' homes with their slogan, "Daily at Your Door." Helms was the bread that astronauts in Apollo 11 took to the moon. World Famous. I've sampled many items in my several visits (driving all the way to Culver City from the SF Valley.) *Breakfast burrito, $14 *Prosciutto/Persimmon sandwich, $17 *Coffee Cake, $5 *Cherry Pie slice, $12 *Nutella-stuffed cookie, $7 *Oat & Medjool Date cookie, $4.50 *Corn & Caramel cookie, $5 *Pistachio & chocolate cookie, $7 *Pecan Molasses, $5 On previous visits: *Olive Oil Cake *Corn Cake All of the above were made with high-quality ingredients, and thus sold at a high price point. All well-crafted and extremely delicious in my opinion. I will miss this place tremendously. I sincerely hope that Chef makes good on opening a Helms bakery in another location in the near future. I'll drive across town for that! R.I.P Helms original, 1931 - 1969 Helms reimagined, November 2024 / December 14, 2025
