Stopped by to pick up a last minute mothers day lunch brunch type sitch. I know i know last minute n all ! To my surprise there was a great selection of goodies, even on mothers day. We were just gonna pick up some goodies but ended up staying for coffee and a quick bite. The place was so welcoming and the staff was very friendly. First off all. Don't charge $5.00 for a can of Diet Coke. I'm not poolside in Ojai. But beyond that -- nobody can figure out what's going on with this place anymore. They make a good berry birthday cake. Congrats. Beyond that it's all pretty meh. Cupcakes are all wrong. Frosting too thick. Cake too heavy. Everything slightly stale. And they offer some bizarre shortlist lunch menu of random unloved basics that still take forever to bring out. Everything is stupidly overpriced for a place where you carry a number to a table. Last time I was in there it was total confusion behind the counter. As if everyone working there was half-done with whatever they were doing -- and whatever they were doing they were doing it wrong and blaming everyone but themselves. Also I was ordering for my family and the person taking my order instead of saying... "Anything else?" kept saying... "Is that it?" like I was rattling off a list of complaints. The inside decor and outside patio is amazing! The ambiance and music is very welcoming and intentional. The glass chandelier that is placed in the middle of the store is amazing! However, the service is sub par and can use a chipper attitude. It also feels like the budget was spent on making it look nice but the food, pastries and flavor is lacking. I have never had a cake that is moist but no puff and fluff and no flavor to it , until today. The location is deceivingly well thought out but the food is where it's lacking. The brownie felt like a hard cheese and extremely saltie. The cakes were good when it came to design but not flavor or texture. The lemon bar is the only thing that was lemony lovely . This bakery has undergone a substantial change in the last few years. Internally, it's a lot better. The baked goods are better and externally. There's a nice area for sitting. The choices are far superior than what existed here before and the attitude is different. In general the new owners have elevated this bakery dramatically. This shop offers the best cakes out here in Santa Monica! I go here for the cake forsure, but have tried their pies as well and everything I've tried has been marvelous so far. They have such a huge selection of cakes, pies, and other pastries that I feel like I'll never get to try all of it. So far though, from what i've tried, i have enjoyed everything so far! The service is usually pretty good and the workers are all very nice and friendly. I see some people eating in as well and I feel like the ambiance it gives is some tea-party vibes (good thing!) if that even makes sense haha. The only con in my opinion is really that it's sometimes hard to find parking and that the cost can be a little too much $$$. We ordered a cake on their website to de delivered to our house at 5:00 pm. At 4:50, the delivery guy contacts us saying they don't have the cake we ordered, and would we take a different cake. Annoyed that they did not have the cake they let us order on their own website, we cancel the order and ask for a refund. The Sweet Lady Jane person on the phone, says that we need to call Uber for that. Say what? We didn't order through Uber. We ordered through YOUR WEBSITE. The employee checks with someone and says, OK, we will cancel it on our end and send you proof. So I get a text showing the order is canceled, but the amount refunded is actually about $10 less than what we paid. so I guess we had to pay $10 for Sweet Lady Jane to ruin our celebration. read more

This cake was to die for. We got the 6" one because only two of us would be eating it. It was so moist, the icing on the exterior was delicious and the whipped layers on the inside made for a delightful fluffy piece of cake. The type of cake you think about after you eat it for a long time, lol. The also made the cake a shade of pink for no extra charge, so if you want a color other than white, go ahead! Quick service counter, lots of dessert options to eat in site, to-go, and plenty of cakes available. There is a dine-in menu, but I only grabbed some desserts to take with me. I ordered the coconut macaroon and it was full of almonds, it was most and tasted delicious. I also got the flour less chocolate walnut cookie and that was good too.
