One can come here for coffee. Free refills! You can ask for a cup ( their cups are glass), but the coffee doesn't stay warm long. One of the best croissants I've ever had was given to me from Tartine. Ever since, I've always wanted to visit myself. Parking here on a Sunday morning is fairly difficult on the street. The valet isn't quite worth it if you're only getting a coffee and pastry - almost feels like an upcharge on a lightly pricy snack / drink. That being said, the almond croissant? Worth every penny! The almond croissant has a generous helping of almonds and features a nice, crispy exterior and light, fluffy interior. My excited nibbles sent them bread shards soaring through the air! I also had an iced latte, and i often don't finish my drink the same hour. Well, I did here! The espresso they added was nutty and dark; the ice made it a little watery but it was tasty nonetheless. My friends who are locals absolutely love coming here, so Tartine is in our rotation of places to meet for coffee/breakfast. Whether you sit inside or outside, it's a very beautiful space. Super cute spot for brunch or if you want to grab pastries/coffee. The one bad thing was the parking which they do have a lot next to them but it's paid, of course. We did find free street parking which was nice. The have a ton of both indoor and outdoor seating, shaded and unshaded. The service is fast and efficient. It pains me to be leaving a negative review as I have been coming here for years, however I've just had such a negative experience that I feel obligated to write this review. I just finished my meal with my girlfriend who ordered the salmon tartine while I got the egg sandwich. First off, my egg sandwich came out 20 minutes before my friend's tartine. Secondly, we noticed that the size of the salmon tartine has shrunk drastically compared to what it used to be three years ago. The bread on the tartine was very thin and they put barely any smoked salmon on it. The quality of the smoked salmon was also noticeably worse than what it used to be. Not only was the salmon tartine smaller and lower quality than what it used to be, management had the audacity to raise the price by a few dollars. I've included photos comparing the old salmon tartine to what we got today, and the difference is night and day. While I was waiting for my sister who was having a quick procedure at UCLA Santa Monica, I needed my essential pick me up...COFFEE! I found his on yelp and it was in walking distance so I headed over. Yes, it may resemble a Church...but in actuality, it was formally a "mortuary!" The food is good but the parking is a nightmare. There is a parking lot adjacent that is advertised as $1 for the first 45 min with validation. But: They have a crazy attendant that spies where you are walking and decides how much you pay based on his opinion vs your receipt from the store and validation stamps. When I came back he said I owed him $15. I showed him my receipt but he claimed he watched me walk away and so validation doesn't count anymore. I refused to pay for his demand and he told me I am banned from the parking lot. He is on crack. Shame because tartine will lose clients because of this dudes behavior. Most of us would interpret. That is a good sign. Tartine is a well established name in the world of sourdough breads. In this location, they had dine in options, and choices of many different items. Staff was very friendly. Decor is casual. I had the vegetable quiche, and later had a coconut cream tart. There was a side salad with the quiche. I had house coffee. I also ordered a loaf of bread as carryout and I can't comment on it yet because I'm still full from breakfast. The interior of the quiche had a nice flavor and texture. You wait in line to order your food which is later brought to your table. The baked goodies are all lined up in a case as you stand in line tempting you to buy something. They are beautifully presented. I had the Green Goddess Salad and added grilled chicken and avocado. It was very fresh and tasty. It had a bit too much dressing already added on it. I think it would be better to have dressing served on the side. The price for the salad without the add ons is $18.50. After adding the chicken & avocado my salad was $30.50!!! I think that's a bit expensive for a salad. I also bought a croissant to bring home for my husband and I to try. It was very flaky and fresh. Service was great! Our server was Max and he was the nicest guy. I would definitely return for some coffee or tea drink and a pastry to share with my husband but wasn't blown away by their other lunch or breakfast items on the menu. Tartine has a lovely covered outside eating area and the interior of the restaurant is quite nice. Outside of that I have to say that my expereince was middling, at best. Tartine is a general counter service restaurant which I do enjoy however for the prices they are charging I would expect a more personal touch to service. When we got to the counter the cashier was polite but outside of our interaction with her there was no real interaction with any of the other employees. Even when our food came the server was brusque and started setting the food down before asking either my friend or myself who ordered which plates. I dont necessarily mind quick and prompt service but there's a difference between efficency in communication and just sloppy serving. I figured at least the $17 Omelette would be qutie good. I was mistaken. I've honestly had a better omelette at Waffle House. The white cheddar completely overpowered all the other flavors in the omelette. There's no real reason to add herbs to an omelette if the cheddar is just going to drown out everything else. Especially since Eggs have a soft flavor themselves it mostly tasted like I was eating just cheese. Additionally, the Omelette was over cooked. I'd wager by at least a minute. There was little moisuture still within the eggs but it was ok. Just not worth $17 at all. To accompany the Omelette the dish came with dressed spring mix lettuce and some bread. The bread was fairly decent and probably the best part of the dish. I also ordered a side of bacon which is 2 slices, cooked perfectly in my opionion. However that did cost almost $5 which, just... why so much? I did not try their pastries but I will say they looked good at least on display. The circumsied ecalir was particularly funny to see.
