I was in the area after dropping off one of our cars at a nearby shop, and since it was still pretty early (around 9:00 AM), it seemed like the perfect time for breakfast. If you're looking for a hearty American-style breakfast and live nearby, this place gives Denny's a real run for its money. I've visited plenty of Denny's locations, but this spot has a welcoming, local vibe. One of my favorite touches was the free coffee refills that came with our order. My wife ordered the hash and eggs, along with ground steak to share with me. I went for the classic bacon and eggs and paired it with some French toast. The service was impressively quick...they brought out our food in five minutes or less. Great diner spot with very friendly staff but unfortunately our meal wasn't the best compared to pre COVID visits. We ordered the Rib Eye Steak sandwich to share and ordered two side salads to share. The salad came in a small bowl with mixed iceberg lettuce, similar to a bag mix with a couple of croutons. If you wanted tomatoes it would be an extra dollar. The salads were 6.50 per side salad. The steak sandwich used to be our favorite but unfortunately it was a thinner slice of steak and had a lot of gristle, perhaps not the same quality of steak they had before. This is a no frills old school diner attached to the bowling alley. Very large space with dining right in front of the counter and large dining room behind the kitchen as well. The menu serves American style breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The updated prices for beef dishes are in little pink slips at the table, so make sure you check the update because the menus themselves aren't updated. We ordered breakfast at lunch. Ordered the kid's French toast that came with a side of sausage, a loco moco dish, and the ham and cheese omelette. The French toast was pretty good size for kids and just the right amount of sugar. The loco moco was great with the gravy and medium cooked patties, this is "Hawaiian" style. And the ham and cheese omelette was good. I haven't had sliced American cheese in a while, and it was creamy and went well with the eggs. 4 eggs in one omelette so it's perfect size for sharing. Worst establishment ever. We had a 60+ person 30th birthday party booked for tonight. The owner got the time wrong and put us down for 6pm instead of 7. They never called to say we missed the reservation. When we showed up we begged for lanes. The manager was incredibly rude. They wouldn't even give us single lanes. Then they wouldn't give us the tables that they had previously promised us because we weren't allowed to have our party there. When we said we have a bunch of people coming in they said they already had enough business. They said that we didn't reserve correctly because we didn't put a deposit down, when we were never asked for a deposit. Manager said "that's on you, you made a mistake." WTF????? Ken (owner) did try to make it right and accommodate us but we couldn't fathom giving them $1000+ of business after the way the manager treated us. Avoid at all costs. Worst place ever. read more

Bowl Me Over 32-lane bowling alley that's been in this location (ca. 1958) for nearly 70 years! In my opinion, this is the preeminent spot to go bowling in the South Bay, as it doesn't have all the fancy accouterments a lot of those fancy-dancy new fangled alleys have, but just focuses on the actual sport itself. The Good: *Large parking lot *Pro shop to buy bowling gear if you're into it. *Coffee shop and lounge (i.e., bar) on premises *Billiard (aka Pool) tables to rent *Cheap date night spot for ±$40 for two people to play an hour with shoe rental, as well. *It's bowling! Who doesn't love bowling?? The Meh: *Rates change depending on time and day of the week. The Ugly: *Not the fanciest bowling alley you'll come across, but it gets the job done. Been here quite often and the quality is always consistent! It's a family owned place, and is always packed during breakfast and lunch hours so service can be a little spotty then, but otherwise the servers are friendly and come around quite often to refill coffee, drinks, water and anything else you need. They have all day breakfast, lunch and dinner. A couple of dinner items are only available after 5pm. For breakfast dishes, you can opt for hash browns or rice. My favorite is the corned beef hash and eggs with rice, and the loco moco is a close second. You can ask for soy sauce as well, which I personally like to mix with rice and eggs. They unfortunately had to raise the prices for egg related dishes by $1 and for omelettes by $2 due to the recent scarcity. They have different soups for each day and on Fridays, there is also clam chowder. Last time I went was on a Sunday and they offered beef and cabbage soup. The diner has booth seating or bar seating, and there's also seating in the karaoke room, but I don't recall it always being open. We went Sunday around noon, so we got a seat in there as it was open for Sunday morning karaoke and the main dining area did not have space for a bigger group at the time. There is a dedicated parking lot for the bowling alley so I've never had a problem finding parking. Highly recommend! It has a real 70/80s diner feel to it, if you're into that vibe. read more

Amazing and affordable place to bowl, especially on weekdays. Compared to competitors, this place is a little dated, but still gets the job done. They have a ton of lanes. The place is clean, but the shoes are a little worn and the bowling pins can sometimes take a few extra seconds to reset. I came on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty lively. Service was fast, and you get 1hr 5min with a 5min grace. They try to get groups on every other lane, which is nice since they don't squeeze everyone together. They also serve alcohol so I imagine it can get rowdy at night, which is why I recommend going in the daytime. They don't have sports playing, or any of the newly flashy lights or anything, but if you're just looking for a place to bowl with some friends that's still relatively affordable with the recent rising COL, this is the spot! read more

I want to give a huge shout out to Frank, who works at this bowling alley. My daughter decided to do her fifth grade research project on bowling and bowling alleys. I called a few alleys and explained the situation and asked if she could interview someone. When I called Fourth Street, Frank got on the phone and was incredibly kind and enthusiastic; in fact, he did his fifth grade ropes project on bowling as well. I brought my daughter there and even though it was busy. Frank spent a lot of time answering questions about how the alley works, his bowling experience, and other interesting things. We felt really welcomed and never felt rushed . He even gave her a tour of how the bowling pin machines work in real time. Frank is such a great dude, just a genuinely kind person for volunteering his time. He was also very interesting and my daughter (and I) were really intrigued. Frank, I hope you're reading this and know how much we appreciate it. If the owner is reading this, please give this guy a huge raise. Had the pleasure of bowling here for the first time today with a friend on Sunday afternoon around 2:30 pm! Overall, this venue is so much better than Bowlero because of its inexpensive rates and atmosphere. We were on a 5-10 minute waiting list since the lanes were full, but the wait was quick as we watched the bowling balls glide through the lines. Great oil on the lanes, well furnished lanes, no balls got stuck whatsoever. After bowling, we played billiards and everything was well organized and orderly. I don't often give 5 stars, but this place deserves it! No frills mom & pop bowling alley/lounge/Cafe. The staff is incredibly warm, funny & generous. I just inquired what the soup of the day was (Sunday) and it was their most popular offer of steak & cabbage. Our waiter brought us two "samples" to try. They were the size of a cup you would normally get at any other place. Prices are fair and servings very generous. We went after church, so got there around 11am. In recent years, many local bowling alleys either closed or were converted to one of the newer franchises such as Bowlmor, Bowlero and Round1. Unfortunately, most of the newer bowling alleys cater to the cosmic bowling with black light and big projection screens playing music videos and ads. Cocktails, beer and bar food are also integral to their business model. For those of us who are more focused on bowling itself, one of the few remaining local bowling alleys is the venerable 4th Street Bowl on the outskirts of San Jose's Japantown. For over 60 years (circa 1958), the family-owned 4th Street Bowl has been the home to many South Bay bowlers. Even their in-house bowling shop "Off The Sheet" has some history, as it was once run by a hometown legend, the late Tony Reyes, who won a PBA Semi-Final Tournament while bowling the 18th televised perfect game in 2006. It's still a great little shop where you can get your ball custom-fitted with grips with knowledgable staff. The lighting is plain, allowing you to see the ball travel down the lane into the pins. More experienced bowlers can probably identify the oil patterns and how they might impact their hook. The decor looks to be from an era sometime between 1970 to 1980. You won't hear the usual blaring music here, although you might hear some screams from ecstatic bowlers after making a spare. Leagues have become a necessity for many of the remaining bowling alleys to stay in business. It can be somewhat frustrating for people who work past the 6pm league start time. For those of us who want to don't want the commitment of membership, get down there in time to bowl however many games you want to play. The Coffee Shop is a diner on the corner of the bowling alley. They have some Hawaiian-themed dishes such as the Loco Moco and we'll sometimes drop by for a nice lunch prior to bowling. I really hope that 4th Street Bowl will stay open as a sanctuary for those of us who just want to bowl without a club environment. There's a purity to that experience that's becoming more difficult to find with each passing year. read more

As a beginner bowler, I do enjoy coming here for casual bowling. This place is affordable to bowl here. This place is usually $10-$15 a person to bowl. However, they do have league from 5:30-9:30pm, so going after 9:30 is the best time. I also like that they open late. Manager has little man syndrome. Acts high and mighty when his customer service is shit. Relax buddy, it's a bowling alley. We were sharing a ball with another group because there was limited sizing and I guess because the Little Man was friends with this other group, he thinks he can walk up and take the ball from our lane to return it to his friends. And he scolds us for it before walking back to chat shit with his friends. Mind you, we and this other group agreed to share.
