I don't get the hype but I'm enjoying the Strawberry Margarita I ordered. The House Lime & Strawberry Margaritas are $8. Any additional flavor is $2 extra. (Blue Curaçao, Raspberry, Melon, Peach, Mango, Apricot, Banana, Apple & Watermelon). They should really consider having drink specials. You can never go wrong with specials. The place is awfully small. A few patrons here & there makes it rather tight. It's not crowded but not empty either. Tables are extremely small. It'll be hard to have all of your food & drinks on the table with any eating room left. We started off with the Aguacate Relleno (avocado stuffed with shrimp) & Peños Rellenos (Jalapeño Poppers) as apps. We could have done without the Aguacate Relleno. Tasteless & not worth the $12 we paid. The Peños Rellenos was good. The crispy breading, cream cheese & Jalapeño was perfect. For the entree we shared the Nachos Con Enchipotlado. It was good. A group of us came to 5 Burro for lunch on a rainy Saturday. Warning: this place is small and narrow, plus gets easily crowded along with a reasonable waiting period...but it's so worth it... We had a couple frozen strawberry margaritas at the bar and waited like 15 min for a table. To start off, we had the chicken and steak nachos. We were told that 5 Burro is known for their steak. Since I'm not a steak person, my friends confidently confirmed the steak was delicious and tasty. As for the chicken nachos and chicken fajitas..the chicken was well marinated, mouth watering, and my meal was exceptionally filling. Our waiter was a sweetheart! I must say 5 Burros hasn't lost their touch all these years in business, it was a 30 min wait due to limited outdoor seating but worth the wait. I used to go to five burros a lot. I went today with some friends to celebrate 5 de mayo. However I was disappointed after waiting for hours to then see people who were not even on the wait list be scurried in to a table. Customer service is so important. My son and I stopped in for a bite. We were ignored. Bartender took our drink order because we sat for so long. Wait or took our order and never looked at us again. We spent 80.00and left a 2 dollar tip. No one even said goodbye. Very disappointing. read more

Unless you want your order wrong, to never see your waiter for refills, and to have people standing over you with their drinks while you sit and eat (rather than at the bar where they should be since they aren't paying for meals), go elsewhere. The owner loves to troll yelp these days rather than manage her restaurant so that it offers a better experience. Got way better margaritas elsewhere. Been here multiple times and it's always a great place for a nice stiff margarita especially during the summer. There's always a crowd and if you're waiting for a table during prime time, you can expect to wait 45 mins to an hour. The frozen margaritas are without a doubt refreshing but very filling. The fish tacos are delish with haddock. The fish is crispy, not battered and chipotle sauce on the side adds a nice kick. You can also choose salmon or tuna. The guacamole is freshly made in the back and chunky. I can't stand puréed guac. Keep in mind he chips served with it is the same set of chips you get when seated. Nestled in the heart of Forest Hills is this quaint cantina that lives up to the hype of the plethora of praises on their Margaritas and authentic dishes. I first visited on a 1st date. My date knew I loved Mexican so he surprised me by taking us to this cute cantina. They even added plastic lizards to our frozen Margaritas. The nachos were delicious and I love their fajitas. I always order the Sizzling Steak Fajitas with a frozen Raspberry Margarita. The bartenders here are generous with the Tequila so don't drive home! This is a nice after work spot or for a 1st date. Be prepared for a long wait for a table. Management should consider moving or renovating with a larger dining space for more business. If you're in the neighborhood craving mexican. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews! Over 8 years of living in Forest Hills, and this was my favorite Tex Mex spot! My go to were the guacamole and chips to start with, and then the cheese/ veggie enchiladas. The beans and rice were my favorite part of each dish. Still my favorite Mexican place in queens for 10 years now. They did change the formula for their frozen margaritas and it was less ice-y and didn't come in a mason jar anymore. I hate this place. I went there, probably 10 years ago and was treated like garbage by the hostess. I had a steak burrito, the steak was barely cooked. It looked like bright red dog food, but a dog wouldn't eat it. My wife begged me to back recently because she wanted a margarita. I figured maybe it changed, I was wrong. I was curious to see exactly what is attracting so much hungry people and was craving tacos one day so gave it a try. My girlfriend is visiting some went here and we waited about 20 minutes to be seated to a table so we had a drink before the food. We ordered a chicken fajita and the chicken enchilada with the green Chile sauce. The enchilada with its pulled chicken tasted very bland. The Fajita was very tasty and lots of food. The food portions of other dishes people were having around me seemed generous in portions as well. Neither dishes we got were even remotely spicey though. Got half cornbread and half flour bread for the fajita, and they also let me have more flour breads when we packed the fajita to go. However, the flour tortillas were $4 and the side sauce we wanted to try added another $3 to our bill (pic posted of receipt) and I felt that was rediculous because I didnt expect it nor was it any good. The drinks are tasty and range $10-16 depending on what you get. My girlfriend had the passionfruit margarita and loved it. They also have frozen margaritas. I do like this restaurant and I have enjoyed every dish I've ordered here. My only issue is the bar, well, the whole place if I'm being honest, is small and the host(ess) will yell at you in the winter when you keep the door open for too long. I think they put out very consistent and great food it's just in a different style than what I grew up with. I'm from Texas so TexMex is what I'm used to and these guys do more authentic Mexican food. It is all delicious but just an fyi, if you're also a black bean soup lover and want to get it from here, your cravings will only be satisfied at dinner and not lunch time. I kinda love that for them. Not me but that's because I could (and do/have) eat soup for breakfast. Not to age myself, but I have been going to Burro's since it opened, some 20+ years ago, I imagine. About 1/3 of the time I was there meeting friends to eat and drink, the other 2/3rds was to enjoy those cocktails with the plastic animals inside. 5 Burro, from my times there can get jam packed, so sitting anywhere but in the back area, especially a few steps up by the bathroom, you run the risk of being run/crashed into. Its just that the location seems so narrow and gets more narrow with every drink. All of the food on the menu is authentic, not that TexMex stuff nor the watered down Americano Mexicano, I have always found the food, hearty, wholesome, stick to your ribs and pour me Mas Tequila Per Favor, GOOD! I was around visiting the area and I stumbled across this restaurant/Bar. The hostess, don't know her name, curly hair lady didn't even acknowledge my husband and I. Walked in and seemed to be a busy night so I let it slide. Hostess started at us for a second then walked up and asked what we needed- first of all- that's not how you greet a customer. It went from bad to even worse- she really sent the sense of urgency for us to just leave the restaurant. Didn't offer to wait or if we needed anything mean while we wait for the bar to open. Never have I encountered an experience like this. She was real busy on her phone texting and socializing with a couple of guys that were on the bar. I also noticed another couple ran into the same issue and we ended walked over to another bar next door. Service was very poor waited forever for a second round of drinks. The server passed our table a few times and still never brought our drinks. We got our second round of drinks once we finished our food. And we had to drink it there we couldn't even take it to go. We didn't even get more more while waiting for the drinks to come out. Service was not how I expected it to go. Made me look so bad in front of my friends cause i was the one who wanted to come to this place. Was there today 2/19/24 with my BFF. We are BFFs for over 52 years now. We both grew up in the area. We LOVE this place, Not only because the drinks are fantastic. Not only because the the food is so delicious. Mostly because the wait staff are AWESOME. Tonight, we had the pleasure of having Jessica as our server. First thing I'm going to say is that I was not pleased with the service this establishment came with. The waiters were in another world and not being attentive to out needs after our food and drink order was taken. There was numerous times I asked from new utensils and the waiter we asked never came back with it. I felt as if i ha dot keep waving and asking different staff members for stuff. The food and drinks on the other hand were good, I ordered the shrimp tacos with a Henny colada. The food was well seasoned and full of taste. The drinks were strong and well balanced as well. During Covid it was great to be able to sit outdoors - there seems to be more space outside than indoors at this place. However the food is always tasty as are the drinks. I randomly stumbled across 5 burro while looking for something to eat in the area. What drew me in was the 72oz pitcher of margarita! I'm a sucker for margaritas! Well I'm a sucker for anything alcoholic, to be completely honest. The spot is pretty cozy and I like that. I love intimate settings. What's better than inhaling your dates' exhale while chomping down on some salsa and tortilla chips? Nothing, that's what! The wait was only about 10 minutes (This is around 6pm). Sweet. Pretty sure it gets worse later on, and they don't take reservations so keep that in mind folks. Onward! The food, pretty solid. I ordered the salmon fajitas and they gave me plenty. Honestly I was expecting one piece but they gave me three huge pieces. It came with rice, beans, gauc, peppers, onions, and salsa. I'm totally satisfied. Also ordered the shrimp tacos, and those bad boys came stuffed. Not with three little shrimp either. So you're definitely well feed. When you get to the table they already have water and chips waiting for you! Now, to the margaritas. I ordered the pitcher of margarita and it's definitely more than enough for two peeps. I do have a few gripes not too many but a few. As I stated before the place is cozy so naturally the two seater tables are a bit small. By the time you order drinks and entrees the table is cramped! Came in to this place with a friend for lunch. Her suggestion since I'm not too familiar with the lunch options around. The place did not disappoint. The staff sat us promptly and everyone was very attentive. The chips were fresh and the salsa spicy (just how I like them). I ordered the steak fajitas and my friend ordered the chicken fajitas. I have been coming to 5 burros for many years and loved them until I got ripped off for their super bowl Sunday special. The advertisement said 4 servings of wings and chips and quesadillas. When I picked up my order and came home and opened everything there was only 2 pieces of quesadilla to feed two people. . When I called to ask about the false advertisement they suggested I cut it into 4 pieces. I could of ordered the regular items from the menu and spent the same amount of money. The manager did not seem to care or even wanted to help me. Or even apologize for the wrong advertisement. Now I'm out $75 for 20 wings and one quesadilla. read more
