I love this spot. My favorite place to go to in Forest Hills. It has such a lively vibe and the kitchen is always open late. The tacos and enchiladas are delicious and so are the seafood dishes. Adore this place. I have been going there for about 16 years. ( That should be a hint). I do not write many reviews but I feel I need to put my two cents in. Where to begin, it has a bar and I must say their Frozen Margaritas are top notch! They have spoiled me, when I order them any place else I must add another shot of tequila. Food, fresh and delish. They do not cover everything with sauces and gravy except where appropriate. I have had fajitas elsewhere that had all sorts of sauce on them, yuck! The meat is perfectly seasoned, steak is medium, chicken was moist and shrimp perfect. It can be a bit noisy and the wait can be long but as they say all good things come to those who wait! They're very strict with the policy on not sitting you unless your party is completely there. For a Monday night it was super packed! But they accommodated us quickly. 3.5:5 CONS: A COCKROACH crawled up next to us (of course after we devoured our amazing meals) on the Wall. My cousin screamed and was visibly upset. I jumped to the rescue with a napkin to kill it. It shortly got away. With the flashlight assistance from my other primo I found it and merked it like the exterminating assassin I am. After we told our waiter what happened he said, "sorry man but those things happen, how bout we buy you another round of Casdillac Margaritas." THATS ALL THEY OFFERED! To clarify, this establishment is less of a café than a combination restaurant-bar that is more bar than restaurant. Based on other reviews, my experience seemed pretty typical: (1) budget at least half an hour of your time waiting to be seated or waiting for food; (2) the noise level is average due the silence blaring from the mostly unused coin-operated jukebox, but the lighting here is minimal (and virtually nonexistent at the bar) during the day, (3) come once for the food, but only come more than once for the frozen margaritas. At 2 PM on a Labor Day afternoon, my friend and I had to stand for 15 minutes in the tiny, crowded space between the doorway and the bar before being seated, as there was nowhere else to wait. The hostess, who seemed more interested in chatting with her friends in a corner than in managing customer traffic, didn't make contact until 10 minutes in. The U.S. Open match playing on the two ceiling-mounted flat screens only offered a minor distraction from hunger pangs. A table for two finally opened up, and the friendly and only waiter took drink and food orders. A frozen margarita in a mason jar appeared soon thereafter, but the day-old tortilla chips and salsa for the table were the only other items that were delivered to our table in the 20 minutes that our entrees took to arrive. (Clearly, the kitchen and dining room were both understaffed.) Beginning at around $13 per plate, many of the lunch entrée portions are a little disappointing--having one less taco, enchilada, burrito, chicken breast, or pork chop than the dinner version which costs only $2-$3 more. While our server was attentive and the food was acceptable, the margaritas might be the only reason I would put up with the ridiculous wait time on future visits. After hearing from many friends about how good this place is I was thrilled to have Monique R suggest we hit it up for dinner recently. We were a little worried about the long wait times that she had mentioned with past visits but we extremely lucked out with only a 15 minute wait and scored a great table. We even had a perfect view of a flat screen showing the Yankees beat down of the Mets that night - sweet! I love these super uber kitschy places with all kinds of crap all over the walls. You name it and they have it splattered up everywhere. Beer memorabilia, pictures, paintings, colored lights, Mexican type trinkets, party favors, etc. The area by the bar is narrow but lively and it looked like a party around it. Seemed like everyone around us were drinking ultra strong frozen drinks in mason jars. Mo and Stacey had a few and they were loaded with booze, and proclaomed them to be terrific. As I am not drinking for a while this is on my list of places to return this summer to imbibe heavily! The food here is cheap and off the hook! The taco platter at only around $14 is a deal and the plate is loaded! Three tacos, beans, rice, guac, the works.I chose the skirt steak and lobster tocos and they were pretty delicious. Any of my nearby Queens friends who are hankering for Mexican food can call me up any time, and I'll definitely make the trek out to Forest Hills for some grub at 5 Burro! So why did I love it? Well, the food, of course... especially their amazing steak nachos! These are now in my top 3 steak nachos, hands down! The steak (medium rare) was marinated and seared just right... just a tad pink inside and succulent. Also, the chips, beans, and cheese on the nachos were tasty and piled high! I will be dreaming about these for a while. As for the other food we tried, all was first rate--the enchilada suizas, lobster tacos, chicken tacos, rice, and beans. All yummy! The place is awfully small. A few patrons here & there makes it rather tight. It's not crowded but not empty either. Tables are extremely small. It'll be hard to have all of your food & drinks on the table with any eating room left. We started off with the Aguacate Relleno (avocado stuffed with shrimp) & Peños Rellenos (Jalapeño Poppers) as apps. We could have done without the Aguacate Relleno. A group of us came to 5 Burro for lunch on a rainy Saturday. Warning: this place is small and narrow, plus gets easily crowded along with a reasonable waiting period...but it's so worth it... We had a couple frozen strawberry margaritas at the bar and waited like 15 min for a table. To start off, we had the chicken and steak nachos. We were told that 5 Burro is known for their steak. Since I'm not a steak person, my friends confidently confirmed the steak was delicious and tasty. Nestled in the heart of Forest Hills is this quaint cantina that lives up to the hype of the plethora of praises on their Margaritas and authentic dishes. I first visited on a 1st date. My date knew I loved Mexican so he surprised me by taking us to this cute cantina. They even added plastic lizards to our frozen Margaritas. The nachos were delicious and I love their fajitas. I always order the Sizzling Steak Fajitas with a frozen Raspberry Margarita. The bartenders here are generous with the Tequila so don't drive home! This is a nice after work spot or for a 1st date.
