    Yee Foo Won Ton Soup

Our initial luncheon here after a recommendation. We were served by CC, he was prompt to serve us. My luncheon partner had their lunch special; Beef Broccoli served with white rice and a veggie roll. I had the Yee Foo Won Ton soup which is rare to find. Ambiance was very Chinese with artifacts spread throughout the dining room. In fact, some of the furniture resembles what we have. While we were dining, there were several clients picking up their orders while the calls came in. We'd come back to try other items on the menu. Even had food to take home.

Came hear after attending a memorial service. The service was good, the reviews looked promising. But the overall experience was lacking. The food was ok but I guess the rent is high in the area so they can get away with slacking on the meal. The Maggi shrimp had more tofu than shrimp and it was nothing special.

We came around noon on a Saturday and it was chill so service was great. Peter was our waiter and he was very friendly and made the Martin's Secret Mai Tai. We asked him to make it strong and it was strong.... After lunch, I knocked out for two hours LOL it usually takes four cocktails to even get me buzzed so that mai tai definitely has a secret HAHA We got the spicy fish and beef chili soup on the specials menu for $26. Three of us shared and finished it. Perfect amount! It was good and flavorful - only thing is I wish it was spicier! It had noodles, beef, fish, and wontons. The fish taste is not strong at all! If you don't like cilantro, make sure you ask to not have it because their cilantro is strong taste lol The crispy shrimp bao bao is also on the specials menu and is $20. It is two plates - one is the white bread and one is the cole slaw + fried shrimp. You put the cole slaw and shrimp into the bread and eat it like a lil wrap. It is good! Surprising twist. Very filling too. We finished it. There's a small parking lot but if you can't find parking, there should be street parking. I definitely recommend coming for lunch or dinner. Coming for drinks and food would be fun. Drinks are super strong haha and food is so good! Employees are nice. Will definitely come back!

Super tasty, great ownership--every time they deliver on taste and quality-- always. Years ago, a solid, and unique offering of delicious dishes was missing in the city of Oakland (in not trying to be 'fusion') in other than hit or miss Chinatown locations. My vegetarian colleague and teammate on Piedmont Avenue swears by their vegetarian sister restaurant, Laughing Buddha on the corner of MacArthur and Piedmont Avenue. Thank you for ALL your efforts in serving the Community!

We found this gem accidentally our first choice of restaurant was closed . The ambience was a bit dark given it was mid afternoon . Not a lot of foodie was in given it's Thursday. We were kinda skeptical but to our surprise the food did not disappoint flavor was amazing and service is great. Will definitely come back to try there other signature dishes

Had a really great experience at five spice kitchen we were dropped off by an Uber and in Piedmont and we had no idea where the restaurant was where we dropped off the restaurant was not shown and you have to walk around the corner and you'll be able to find the restaurant. As you enter the restaurant, you get the feeling of a Asian restaurant. It looks like it's a couple of different floors. The bar is where we sat and it is to the left of the doors when you walked in. The bartender Daniel was extremely nice knowledgeable and knew the drink that we would like to try is their original Mai Thai! his words exactly where it's not like the ones you get in Hawaii and let me tell you it definitely is not. This is not your sweet Ma Thai. It's definitely heavy on the pour and one goes a long way. Let me tell you. As we got there pretty early the place was not pretty packed but by the time we left to go to our show around 7 o'clock, the place was pretty full . The food comes out pretty fast and quickly and it's extremely hot and warm and taste like a home-cooked Asian meal. We ordered the fried calamari, the potstickers chicken, chow mein, and shrimp fried rice and we even wanted to order more, but I knew that we would be stuffed by just those dishes because none of us were going to be carrying leftovers to the next event. The chicken chow mein had huge pieces of chicken in it and the shrimp fried rice had beautiful big shrimp. The calamari was perfectly crisp and it came with different types of jalapeño pepper. It just needed a little bit of a sauce or something to kind of finish it off. The potstickers were delicious. If you're looking for a great place and Piedmont, especially if you're gonna go visit that chabot space center for an event, make sure to stop here and get your food and your drinks because a Chinese restaurant with a full bar is my place to go!

Blue neon arches, a huge underwater mural, plush chairs and low tables along the back wall. Worth the detour. Chris was working the bar on his second day and greeted us like a regular. I skipped my usual Manhattan and went with the Smoke Break, bourbon with bitters, smoke and black cherry. He nailed it. That is the one I would order again. Kudos to Chris for making the smoke linger and make the drink taste fantastic. I had this one in Oregon and it was cool but Chris did a better job with his method that really did serious justice to the name. My wife wanted the Cucumber Cooler, but they were out of cucumber. She pivoted to Sauvignon Blanc, and they were out of that too. The wine list runs four whites and four reds, so there is not much room to maneuver if the cocktails are not your thing. Chris read the situation, offered up a Paper Airplane since she wanted something refreshing, and put it on the house. Classic good bartending. It was louder than expected for how few people were in the room. On a Saturday with a DJ, music and dancing, I would guess the volume gets close to a rave. Go Tuesday or Wednesday if you want to hear the person across from you, and you will probably catch them fully stocked. My guess is weekends clean them out. Cocktails run 16 to 18 dollars. There is also a 300 dollar tequila and cognac number called La Maria served in a glass rimmed with gold dust, if you have something to celebrate. Happy hour is Tuesday through Friday, 3 to 5. They are on the ground floor of the Waymark apartments at 121 Pringle Ave with a small patio out front and heaters. Great spot to hang out and talk with friends, and a good pre dinner or post dinner stop rather than a destination for the whole night. When those doors shut you are transported somewhere neat. I would go again.

The space itself is attractive, with festive music and a lively atmosphere. It looks and feels like it should be a fun place to eat. I started with a Pisco sour, which was okay. Then I ordered the pulpo a la parrilla. The octopus seemed practically raw when it arrived. I sent it back, and when it returned it was incredibly chewy and still inedible. I'm not sure if the chef was having an off night, but something was clearly wrong with the preparation. I switched to the Costillas de Chancho, BBQ pork spare ribs with mashed sweet potatoes. The plate arrived with the mashed sweet potatoes literally steaming, in a way that made them seem freshly microwaved. The waitress tried to explain that the steam was from frying the ribs, which didn't really make sense, especially since the steam was clearly coming from the potatoes. Why are BBQ ribs being fried anyway? The ribs were also extremely chewy, and the mashed sweet potatoes were bland with almost no seasoning. The waitress had specifically asked about allergies or food preferences, and I told her I didn't like onions. The replacement dish then arrived completely covered in onions. Why ask if you're going to ignore the answer? Service wasn't great either. I had to take silverware from another table because I wasn't given any, the waitress wasn't particularly attentive, and the hostess seemed like she didn't want to be there. Then, to top it all off, the check had a 3% "operations fee" added to it. I didn't see this disclosed anywhere beforehand. Adding an unexplained fee at the end of an already disappointing meal just left an even worse impression. Nice-looking space and festive atmosphere, but unfortunately that's about where the positives ended for me. Two poorly prepared dishes, inattentive service, and a surprise fee on the check. I had high expectations based on the reviews, but I would not come back.

I had always been aware of Honeycomb but assumed it was exclusively a venue for private events…read more Then I came across a TikTok post announcing that it had opened to the public as a speakeasy, so we decided to visit on a Thursday at 5:00 p.m., right when they opened. The experience begins in a small glass-enclosed entryway where you're greeted before the hostess is notified by radio. Moments later, the glass door opens, revealing a beautifully designed speakeasy with an elegant yet inviting atmosphere. The space offers comfortably spaced bar seating, cozy booths, and tables, all surrounded by tasteful décor that perfectly captures the speakeasy era while incorporating subtle honeycomb-inspired touches. The spirit selection is impressive, and the appetizer menu is thoughtfully curated. Their specialty cocktails are creative, balanced, and beautifully presented. We sat at the bar, where our mixologist, Kalika B, was both personable and professional. I always enjoy sitting at the bar when the bartender is willing to share their craft, and Kalika did exactly that. She explained the story behind several of their custom cocktails, the history of some of their spirits, their signature custom ice program, and offered excellent appetizer recommendations. Her knowledge and enthusiasm made the experience even more enjoyable. The entire space was spotless and clearly designed with great attention to detail. It filled up quickly after opening, so I was glad we arrived when we did. Despite the growing crowd, there appeared to be plenty of staff, and the service remained attentive without ever making guests feel rushed. There is only one restroom, but during our visit it was never an issue, and there was no wait. I've been chasing speakeasies for more than 20 years, long before they became as popular as they are today. Whenever I travel, I make it a point to seek out a local speakeasy, so I've experienced quite a few over the years. Honeycomb ranks near the top of my list. It's the perfect size--not too small and not too large--with an outstanding selection of spirits, exceptional craft mocktails, knowledgeable mixologists who truly know their craft, and cocktails tailored to your palate. The atmosphere is elegant yet approachable, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for the quality of the experience. The Honeycomb Speakeasy in Livermore is truly a destination-worthy cocktail experience. Be sure to check their Instagram for the current password, then treat yourself to one of the best speakeasy experiences in the area.

So been living in Oakland for going on 15 years now. I'm not what you would call a "bar" person. I…read moretend to enjoy my cocktails, wine, and beer in the cozy confines of my own home. That said I'm occasionally inspired to go check out the local watering holes for a good pour, some food if possible, and just to be in the presence of the human pulsation. Walking into Tallboy on a Thursday afternoon was a bit like Nirvana for me. There is a comforting vibe of neighborhood and after work people shedding responsibility and "toe the lineness" and transitioning to pondering true meaning and the other side of the elliptical bend over nicely crafted cocktails and HOTDOGS! I am a hotdog fiend, and Tallboy has a very creative range on the menu that does not disappoint. From a basic onions/mustard, an Elote Dog, an a Coney Islandesque (it has chili) version. Some folk go to bar and line up shots (or craft cocktails). At Tallboy you can do that AND line up their hotdogs which I intend on doing in the very near future. The pleasantries don't stop at the food (there are other delicious snack items on their menu to choose from too). Tallboy has a fully stocked bar, and the menu has a list of really unique and delicious signature craft cocktails. I'm not a Mezcal drinker, but I ended up dubiously ordering their Guava Martini which to my smokey surprise is made with Mezcal. I stayed with the smokey fruitiness of this Guava Martini as it was my mistake that I did not read in the description it is made with Mezcal, and ended up chasing it with their Tamarindo Cocktail which also has Mezcal. To those who really enjoy Mezcal the Tallboy Guava Martini and the Tamarindo Cocktail do not disappoint. Both have that deep Smokey Mezcal essence, but cut with the fruit sweetness. I personally think the Tamarindo balances well with the Mezcal. The Guava Martini the Mezcal comes through stronger, but both are just the tonic to release any existential pinging going on in your head. If you really want to kick in the hyperdrive pair either of these with an Elote Dog. I had their Deli Dog which sufficed. I think the Deli Dog would pair better with their standard Martini, but hey let's us not bring that snobbiness into Tallboy. Tallboy has an element of cloak and dagger or secret treehouse club about it. What I mean here is there is no signage on the outside (please keep it that way!). When you walk past all you see is this quaint beigeish/yellow brick façade of an establishment which begs you to press your face to the glass and scan what in the blazes is going on in here! Before you know it you are caught in the Tallboy tractor beam, and you find yourself sitting at the bar with some kind of craft drank and hotdog pondering the space and the very nice old fashioned wainscoting painted a shade of green circa 1930 (my description of winning in life). The cadre of bartenders are all really pleasant folk, very attentive (checking in with you to see if you need another round, hotdog, or snack), have tight shaker skills, and they know their craft and the menu. Tallboy also has SLUSHIES, and I did not do a deep dive on them, but I'm positive they may/do put spirits in them; or not. Also I noticed other patrons with a beautiful enticing thing that looked like an ice cream sundae milkshake hybrid (it had what looked like whipped cream on top) in on old timey soda fountain ice cream goblet. This could be a craft cocktail they make with the slushie, but major props for serving it in that goblet. I will investigate on my next visit which I intend to be very soon. Tallboy is the kind of bar establishment I could easily adopt as my after work living room for a couple of hours everyday.

Had an amazing experience at Tallboy!…read more Sat at the bar on a sunny weekend and immediately loved the vibes. Bartenders were friendly and seemed to know a lot of the regulars. Can't quite describe it but it didn't feel like an SF bar, felt more open and like a community watering whole. On to the food and drinks. I'm vegetarian so was so excited to try the dogs - which are vegan. And I may be biased but you cannot tell that you're missing out on anything with all the flavor packed combos. The bun was fluffy and soft and you have multiple fun themed options to choose from. My partner and I ended up getting the deli dog and truffle meltdown. Deli was perfect - classic mix of spice and crunch with the spicy brown mustard and giardiniera peppers. And the truffle meltdown was so savory and decadent - totally different flavor profiles from each dog! We were only going to grab one drink but the menu was so inventive we ended up getting two. I ordered the banana hammock (which comes with a fire show) and espresso martini slushee which was is up there with the frozen Irish coffees I've had in New Orleans. Man writing this has my mouth watering... definitely coming back for more dogs, drinks, and vibes!
