I had a nice first time experience at Becky's Chinese Restaurant. It was after my medical appt, and I decided to cruise up to the Rockridge area of Oakland. It was around 2:45pm on a sunny Tuesday. I was greeted as soon as I walked in, and directed to a table up front. They offered me ice water and a menu. This place has a nice cozy atmosphere with earth tones and an asian theme. I ordered: - Fried Prawns - Wor Won Ton Soup, Medium The food came out fast. The fried prawns were excellent! Fresh Prawns with tasty and crisp batter. The wor won ton soup was mostly colorful veggies, some pieces of meat, and some dumplings. It's okay, everyone has a different recipe. This must be the healthy version of wor won ton soup. The fortune cookie was stale. What was kind of weird was the "All Gender" restroom was dark and gloomy. Overall, a good experience and I would return. Street parking. read more

Had a decent takeout experience here for dinner on a weeknight. Walked in and placed an order for takeout, and was told it would take 25 minutes. The order was ready when promised. I got the garlic chicken (3.5/5) and the house special chow mein (3.5/5). The food was fine but not memorable or flavorful. Giving them half a point for being a couple dollars cheaper than my regular Chinese takeout restaurants in Contra Costa County. An okay option if you already live in/frequent the Rockridge area. read more

It's a solid choice for Chinese food - both authentic and typically fare, and even when they are super busy, their kitchen somehow works magic. Their menu is pretty diverse, but you can also ask for things that you like. Be sure to check out their daily specials, because those will be some of your more interesting choices and will typically have the freshest veggies. I really enjoy Becky's. I order a lot of Chinese take out through out the week and this restaurant always satisfies. The shrimp is fresh and the portions are plentiful. The prices are a little pricey. But hey, we're in Rockridge. I wish they had more fried shrimp options but maybe I'm being too hopeful. Becky's Chinese restaurant has been a staple restaurant in the Rockridge area of Oakland for over 25 years. They have amazing lunch specials and family dinner specials at reasonable prices. I enjoyed a lovely lunch with my Mom and here's what we ordered: The Broccoli Beef lunch special, Kung Pao Chicken lunch special and chicken chow mein. Keep in mind that the Kung Pao Chicken was a little spicy so for those that can't take spice I might skip this dish. Everything was fresh and delicious. Each lunch special comes with soup and salad and each entrée comes with fresh steam rice. They offer lunch specials from 11:30 AM - 3:30 PM. Their white steamed rice is always cooked to perfection...not sure how they get it that way, but it is very good and fluffy. Becky herself sometimes takes our order and is so nice and accommodating. There were several takeout orders being processed throughout our meal. Another good sign of happy customers. The parking in this area can be challenging, but you can circle the block and you're sure to find a park nearby. The best part about going to Becky's is visiting the neighboring stores around the restaurant. There are consignment stores, bookstores, and a European market directly across the street called Rockridge Market Hall. Extremely Disappointing Experience We arrived at the restaurant at 8:45 PM, well before the posted closing time of 9:30 PM. At first, the ambiance was nice, and we were looking forward to enjoying our meal. However, the experience quickly went downhill once we felt the employees rushing us to leave. We were still eating when a busser approached us and, speaking in Spanish, told us to "go home." This was both unprofessional and inappropriate, especially since he assumed our language based on our ethnicity. He also mentioned that they "don't get paid overtime," which is not something a guest should ever be told. This ruined the dining experience completely--we couldn't enjoy our food. On top of that, the food itself was bland and stale. This was by far the worst treatment my family and I have ever received at a restaurant. We expected basic courtesy and quality, but instead, we were disrespected and rushed out. read more

I'd say stick to lunch and dim sum specials for the price and taste you won't be disappointed. Dim sum which at Beckys are basically small plates are such a good value, they even have Mongolian Beef. My hunan prawns were $14 before tax both items $23 after tax. Service is good here no complaints. Street parking free and paid is available. read more

I ordered several Chinese dishes from this restaurant. The potstickers and spring rolls were both excellent--crispy and flavorful, with a fresh taste that really stood out. However, the chow mein was a disappointment. The noodles were quite dry, there was very little meat or vegetables included, and the overall flavor was bland. I noticed there was an option to add extra instructions, but there was no default choice to add more meat or vegetables, which honestly shouldn't even be something that needs to be requested. Overall, I'd rate this experience about 3 out of 5 stars: great appetizers, but the main dish could use improvement, especially if you like chow mein loaded with flavor and ingredients. read more

Order 3 of their lunch specials from DoorDash. I ordered Mongolian Beef, House Chow Mein, and Szechuan Beef. Sadly the to go lunches don't have the soup. All three were reasonably priced $12-$13. The food was good for the prices. All three were packed with a lot of rice and if I ordered again I could just order the chow mein not as a lunch specials the foot itself was nothing special but it did taste good. My only complaint was that both the Mongolian Beef and the Szechuan Beef were listed as hot and spicy and there was no spice at all. read more

Hate to say this about Becky's as it's been a go to now & then for many years but I apparently have never ordered fried rice there as this take-out was hands down the worst fried rice I have ever had. The teeny pieces of bbq pork in it tasted tired & old, the peas shriveled, but worst of all was the no doubt hours old overly dry rice. Just no good tastes at all. I picked up the order soon after it was ready so it was not sitting around long. I added on & paid extra for broccoli for more greens but its sogginess did nothing to improve anything nor did heating up the rice & adding soy sauce. It makes me so miss old timey King Dong on Shattuck that sadly closed a couple of years ago. I'd gobble down their delicious fried rice let alone the best soups, just to say. read more

We ordered from this spot for some delicious Chinese takeout and it was perfect! I recommend every dish we ordered: General Tso chicken, Mongolian beef, friend rice and spring rolls. We have been going to Becky's consistently for more than 10 years and there's a reason it has staying power on this busy stretch of College Ave. The food is always fresh and delicious, and devoid of a lot of the additives of other Chinese restaurants. It's an easy place to sit and the waitstaff are friendly and efficient. Favorite dishes include the scallion pancakes, dry string beans, ma po tofu, any of the noodle dishes and the broccoli with beef. We used to get the kung pao chicken but unfortunately they started deep frying the chicken - it was better and healthier just stir fried. All said, this is our favorite Chinese food in the East Bay, hands down. read more

This is my second time ordering from Becky's. The first time, when I picked up my food, the woman who took my payment was so rude it was embarrassing. The food was very good and so i thought I'd try again. Today I ordered via delivery. $43 for beef chow mein and the "lunch special" sweet and sour prawns. The chow mein was very oily but eatable. The sweet and sour prawns were ALL BATTER! There is little to no sauce. When i cut it open, they had cut the prawns in thirds and battered it heavily. I included a photo. I won't be back. read more

I go here often, usually to grab a shrimp fried rice when I'm too lazy to cook, and it always hits the spot. Comforting, tasty and addictive, not to mention affordable (for both the dish and considering the location, not that there are many Chinese spots in Rockridge lol). Aside from the shrimp fried rice I also love to get the beef broccoli, with a side of rice, here and the spinach tofu soup. The beef broccoli is very savory and filling, and I love it with rice. The spinach tofu soup is delicious and cozy and made the way I like it: soft tofu, thick broth and the spinach is fresh and not overly cooked. Now for the restaurant venue. The space has a classy feel with soft lighting, dark wooden tables and beautiful lanterns hanging from the ceiling, but I'd say it's suitable for both formal and casual occasions. I see both dressed up people coming to celebrate something, couples having a date night and more casual, regular locals just dropping by frequenting here all the time, and none look or feel out of place. The restaurant is also great for conversations as the music has never been too loud. The staff is also very friendly and nice. When entering, I have always been greeted right away and seated in a timely (sometimes there's a wait, sometimes there isn't). Becky's is probably my current favorite Chinese spot in the area, and I will keep coming back. read more

I'm just giddy that we tried Becky's. In the place I lived before moving to Oakland, there was an expensive, high-end Chinese place we loved. The freshest vegetables, the best ingredients. We Doordashed every option and fairly hated all of them. Then we found Becky's. We've tried it three times and like it better each time. Even Doordashed, it shows up piping hot and wonderfully presented. The walnut prawns are excellent. The wor won ton soup was what I've been looking for since we moved here 5 years ago. Very basic Americanized menu. You'll probably wind up ordering something like Mongolian beef, as I did. But you'll be impressed by the richness of the dish and the care with which is was made: small, well-cooked pieces of beef, not the plain slabs of cheap places; and it had some crunchy rice noodles in with it. Hefty quantity, too. I was there at 6 pm and it was fairly busy, but the service was impressively quick. I was in and out in 30 minutes, due not only to fast ordering and fast delivery of the food, but they took my plate away the moment I was finished eating and brought the bill immediately - hardly anyone does that. Really great service! Made reservations on the weekend with a large party (about 20 people) and they were very accommodating and attentive. The food is really tasty, but my favorites would be the honey walnut shrimp (a classic) and their snow pea leaf shoots (another classic). The salt and pepper beef and the sweet and sour pork were also delicious! The food came out quickly and the entire party left full and satisfied.
