I had the best early dinner today at 5 Thai! I'm so glad this place is still exceptional years later. Their take out was booming and because of the rain it was not busy inside so it was nice to sit and chat. We brought the kids and they loved all of the food too! Not surprising through, they have so many delicious options. We went with the drunken noddles, bbq pork, curry puffs, chicken wings and last but not least the crab rangoon. Honestly, maybe my favorite I've ever had. Chef's kiss. My only regret is not getting two orders.

We appeared a few minutes before the restaurant opened, and the staff were very pleasant and even apologized (though completely not necessary) for the wait. The interior is quite spacious with plenty of sunlight, and even when we left it wasn't very busy for a Sunday around lunchtime. I ordered drunken noodles with steamed tofu and left pleased. The server didn't ask me for spice level, but it definitely had a kick to it, which I appreciated. The duck noodle soup sounded like it'd be a great, unique dish - but the duck is probably best left to dry noodle dishes, where it can remain crispy. In the soup, the duck lost its texture and flavor. The other classics that the group ordered (deluxe pad thai, chicken pad see ew) were all satisfactory.

Overall, I had a great experience at 5 Thai Bistro. The Mama's Dumplings which were $10.45 were just okay. I would have preferred them pan-fried rather than deep-fried. I ordered the Crispy Duck Massaman Curry (gluten-free) with potatoes, carrots, onions, and peanuts. The portion size was excellent and the flavors were tangy and comforting, though I wish the peanut flavor was a bit stronger. I ordered level 4 spice and should have gone with a 5. If you like heat, I recommend at least a level 5. I am very particular about duck since it is easy to dry out, but this was crispy yet still moist, which impressed me. It was a bit pricey at $27.95, but understandable for duck. The waitress was delightful and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. I will definitely return.

Great food, so flavorful. Service was excellent. We went here after having dinner at another Thai restaurant but this one is superior. Food is legit and it shows. Great for groups or date night.

Lunch specials. small size but reasonable prices. a little on the sweet side as typical thai food is.

It's been so many yrs since I've had Thai that tasted this good. Probably not since one of my trips to NYC. You take a gamble when you order duck. It has the ability to go sideways. I've had too many chewy ducks than I can count. Even at a Michelin star restaurant. The crispy duck and massamsan curry at 5 Thai Bistro was absolute perfection. It was crispy and fork tender. We also ordered scallion pancakes, crab Rangoon, chicken fried rice, and pad Thai. It was all very good. I had such a long day. This was exactly what I needed.

Good ambiance and great food! I really enjoyed the tofu red curry. It was very busy by 5:30pm so I do recommend a reservation on the weekend.

Went here for my friend's birthday the other day and this might be close to one of the best Thai dishes I have ever had. I got the Pad See Ew and it was fantastic. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes. The drinks are great too. A little on the pricer side but totally worth it. The service was also friendly. Smaller restaurant so make sure to make a reservation cause it can get busy.

3rd visit and each time has been really good and consistent. I've tried several Thai places in NH and this one is the best by far. Spring rolls are crispy and the insides are not soggy. Dumplings have great flavor and the sticky sauce they serve them with is the perfect touch. The basil stir-fry was perfect. I like my food Thai hot and this did not disappoint. This will be my go to Thai spot from now on.

Yummy place! Loved it! Came here for lunch and really enjoyed it with my group! Quick service, friendly staff and a surprisingly good find in the area. Parking is a bit of trying your luck. There is a parking lot in the back if you can't find street parking. We got chive cakes, pad see ew, deluxe pad thai, crispy duck on the side ($10), gratuity 20% was included in our bill since we had a large group of 9 (including kids). Some other items we tried including pineapple fried rice, drunken noodle, tom yum soup which are decent too. Give it a try if you're looking for a good thai spot!

THEY ARE NOT CLOSED ON TUESDAY. Idk why gg and yelp said they closed on Tuesday, but they open on Tuesday. We have come here for long times and love the food here. Their business hour poster I took on 4/29/2025.

Dumplings are phenomenal! My husband also loves the spring rolls. And the Thai tea is yum-a-licious!

Excellent Thai street food and dim sum at Bangkok Street Thai Kitchen in Portsmouth!…read more The inside is kept nice and cool during a hot summer's day with rather dim lighting, so doing my Yelp thing and shooting photos required two phones. One for light, and the other took the pictures...! I ordered the pork and shrimp shumai, which arrived with a nice soy based sauce, crispy garlic, and fresh cilantro. The wrappers were delicate and the filling well-seasoned. When I asked about egg fried rice with Lap Cheong (sweet Chinese sausage), the kitchen prepared it even though it is not listed on the menu. It turned out to be one of the best versions I have had, and my server Arisa mentioned it is also a favorite of hers and her husband's. The Pad Kee Mao with beef (Nua) was flavorful, with wide rice noodles, fresh basil, and vegetables cooked to the right texture. The added bamboo shoots aren't normally on that dish, but a welcome addition here. Arisa was an outstanding server. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and happy to talk about Thai food traditions and family memories. The conversation made the meal more enjoyable. The restaurant's story about its Thai-Chinese roots on Charoen Krung Road comes through in both the menu and the service. Everything I tried was delicious. Highly recommend a visit if you are looking for quality Thai food and dim sum in the Portsmouth area.

It's their main attraction. Pillowy and the perfect size to carry all the fillings. $10 for one of these bad boys and that may seem a little on the higher side for a bun but this thing was packed. I'd pay that again in a heart beat. The pork belly was cooked well. The fat was rendered perfectly and it was tender. If they did it roasted and got it a little crisp, boy it'd be a 10/10 but honestly, the freshness from the pickled onion, the cilantro and the sauce they used on it was all wonderful. Loved it and when I'm in the area I'll surely come back. Especially considering I ordered and got my bun in 5 minutes flat. I could sneak away from my family real quick, have my bun and be on my way before anyone got too worried. Thanks Bao 155!

The sauce is a warm, soy‑brown sheen rather than a syrupy glaze, which tells you the cook favored balance over theatrics; the vegetables still hold color, the shrimp look springy not puckered, and the proteins sit in the mix instead of hiding under a puddle of sugar. That visual honesty is already half the meal. On the palate it's a study in contrasts handled with restraint. The noodles have a slight chew that says they were finished in the wok, not boiled to oblivion; the shrimp and chicken show quick sear marks and keep a clean, saline sweetness; and the bean sprouts and peanuts deliver the bright, brittle punctuation every good stir‑fry needs. The sauce leans savory with a modest sweetness and a faint tang -- I'd bet on rice vinegar or tamarind playing quietly behind soy and a touch of palm sugar -- and it's used sparingly so each component still reads on its own instead of being smothered. Technique is obvious without being showy: a hot pan for that wok‑kiss, timed addition of the sprouts to preserve snap, and a final toss that glosses rather than drowns the noodles; there's no greasy residue, which means oil was measured and the pan was properly hot. This avoids the usual sins: limp noodles, cloying sweetness, and rubbery shrimp. My one small gripe is a missing bright note at the finish; a thin shave of citrus or an extra hit of acid would have sharpened the edges and made the whole thing sing louder, but that's a tweak, not a correction. What I appreciated most was the humility of the execution: no unnecessary garnishes, no gimmicks trying to outshine the basics, just clear attention to temperature, timing, and texture. It's the kind of plate that makes you relax into the meal and then quietly judge the rest of the menu by whether the kitchen can keep this level of craft -- honest, balanced, and quietly excellent in a way that actually honors the technique behind it. If I'm looking for Thai in New Hampshire I would definitely come back here. They had a large menu of items that all looked really good!
