This unassuming, cute little spot is right at the end of the main drag in downtown. The restaurant is oddly L-shaped and wraps around the back of the building, but they manage to comfortably fit a good amount of seating. The server was friendly and happily answered our questions; our food came out quickly and was quite good. I had the chicken curry bao and satay chicken bowl. The bao were well executed with a nice fluffy dough and good amount of filling. My chicken bowl was delicious- a nice balance of flavors with fresh, sweet and savory elements. I mean, the photos speak for themselves. I'm just a visitor of the area, but this place seems to be very new. The inside is extremely clean and the space is very nice and comfortable. The menu has tons of options. I couldn't pass up trying the pork belly Bao bun sandwich and I'm glad I got it. The bun itself usually Fall short with many places. Well, not here. It's their main attraction. Pillowy and the perfect size to carry all the fillings. $10 for one of these bad boys and that may seem a little on the higher side for a bun but this thing was packed. I'd pay that again in a heart beat. The pork belly was cooked well. The fat was rendered perfectly and it was tender. If they did it roasted and got it a little crisp, boy it'd be a 10/10 but honestly, the freshness from the pickled onion, the cilantro and the sauce they used on it was all wonderful. Loved it and when I'm in the area I'll surely come back. Especially considering I ordered and got my bun in 5 minutes flat. I could sneak away from my family real quick, have my bun and be on my way before anyone got too worried. Thanks Bao 155! read more

The menu is interesting, food taste ok and small portion but too pricy for the cheap ingredients.

Amazing bao!! Great vegetarian options and my meat-lover husband was very happy too. Service was quick and we had adult beverages to go with our food which was a nice surprise. Definitely check this place read more

Stopped into the very new Bao 155 for a quick lunch. This is an attractive fast casual spot where you order food at the counter, and it is delivered to your table. The restaurant advertises "Bao and Thai Street Food". As one would expect, there is a nice selection of bao buns and bao sandwiches, as well as some bowls and dumplings. We started with some pan fried dumplings. There was a nice selection to choose from, and the dumplings we had were quite tasty, but nothing extraordinary. We sampled two of the different Bao buns ($5 each), and enjoyed both. The "classic" was quite tasty, but we liked the roast pork bun better. I think this is a great addition to Portsmouth, and is perfect for when you might want a light and fast bite, or I suppose you could make a big meal of it. Note that they don't seem to be open for dinner service at this time. Give them a try! read more

Great crowd pleasing baos combos! The place is immaculate and design minimal Asian cool. We wanted lunch and ordered a couple of rice dishes . The pork bellly and the Khao moo dang. Both are very good. We finished off with a Nutella Bao which is a filled donut. We'll be back for the popcorn chicken which looked amazing - our neighbor was hailing them. read more

The ambiance and staff at this restaurant were excellent. The food...not so much. The bao buns were too doughy and the various fillings were ok. I tried the chicken saytay and another chicken bun and it was bland. I had to drench it with hot sauce. The restaurant just did not feel authentic. The food is great but the server had a real attitude. I ordered two meals and they put everything on one box. When I explained that one meal was for me and the other was for someone else, she rolled her eyes and went into the back. She was in a better mood when she returned with my food in two different bags, but by then my Mood and impression of the restaurant had soured. read more

Absolutely delicious and a family favorite when visiting! Very quick turnaround when ordering online. I'm hoping they add more sauce for the rice bowls since the rice can be bland on its own. The buns are tasty, but can be on the smaller side so order extra. Recommend also having the different teas/lemonades as they are refreshing. Highly recommend to anyone coming to the area! read more

This was a fun stop. Wasn't sure it would happen, but parking wasn't as much of an issue as I suspected. Got the short rib "and ich" and a traditional pork bao. Both were excellent. The sandwich had more complex flavors, but I think that's a cooked vs fresh sitch. Cute little corner shop in downtown Portsmouth. Would definitely do this stop again. read more

The Bao buns are excellent. If you like mushrooms, the mushroom bun had such awesome flavor. Clean and pleasant atmosphere. And the people were extremely pleasant. This is a wonderful addition to Portsmouth and offers something different in an otherwise crowded good scene. Great for a quick bite! read more

Great food, fast and friendly service. Not much for atmosphere but the place is clean and conveniently located.

The service was amazing, the staff were so sweet. It's such a cute place too, with plants and gentle music playing. We got the Thai tea and the passion fruit honey green tea, so yum! Also the portions are perfect for a variety or a little snack. 10/10 will be back!!! read more

Food is good. Service wasn't warm/fuzzy and a bit slow. Room for improvement there. The place is clean but the layout is somewhat odd. It is like to different spaces in one. It feels like a fast(er) food / counter service place with sit-down restaurant pricing. Overall I liked it and will go back with the hope that they've improved their service. read more

This new Thai place is great and would recommend stopping by here for lunch. I grabbed some Baos for lunch and a bowl for S/O. Both meals were delicious and filling. The baos dough was airy and pairs great with the variety of flavors they have such as the steak and cheese or the traditional. Very clean location and the staff was very welcoming! read more

Almost walked by the restaurant as it's kind of indistinguishable from the sidewalk. Just know it's a narrow store on the corner. We had the Lemon Cream Sauce Fried Chicken Bao Sandwich and the Grilled Teriyaki with a Green Bun and BBQ Pork bun because the Traditional Bao Bun was out of stock. All were delicious, but the sandwiches were our definite favorites. The Green bun was a tasty veggie mix with a sweet touch. They are little pricey at $10 a sandwich, but the ingredients were very fresh. The food is a definite 5. The reason for the 4 was because people coming in after us ordered at the counter (like us) but they chose to eat in-house and were served long before we got our take-out. And not just a minute or two.....that couple who ordered about 5 minutes after we did got served, ate the bao sandwich and buns, and were finished and out of the restaurant BEFORE we got our order. There was no explanation and it was NOT busy. I'm sure they'll work out whatever the problem is as they learn to streamline orders. Next time we'll order to eat in-house or place the order on-line and then pick-up. I'm not recommending ordering for take-out at the counter as you get put last on the que. read more

What an amazing place! I am a fan of their sister restaurant (Bamee in Durham) as well. This restaurant feels like a perfect take-out and snacky type menu, easy to eat with just your hands and very portable! The BBQ Bao bun and beef curry bun were phenomenal so soft of a bun and delicious flavors, very balanced! The Takoyaki is as good here as it is at their sister restaurant too! The Thai tea was phenomenal!! I was worried because most Thai teas are unsweetened or lightly sweetened, but this one was perfect and so tasty! Though the wait was slightly longer since I went on opening day, the service was great, and the staff still remembers me as a regular from their sister restaurant! The design of the restaurant is so pretty and modern as well! (I really want those cute dumpling balloons they had for opening too ) They dont have the bubble tea yet since they needed to open before everything was 100% there and ready, but I've had it at the other store and its sooo good! A perfect lunch in between work! I will 100% be going back here and to the sister store! read more

As a self proclaimed Bao lover who has gotten the opportunity to sample Bao in many restaurants I would say this is in my top 5. The noodles and rice bowls are also incredible. If you love Bao and are in the area this is a MUST TRY! The traditional and vegetarian bao are delicious and the moo palo is great. Give it a shot, you won't regret it. read more
