Burgers were great. Milkshakes were pricey $$ and the staff were challenged to make them correctly. Service was non-existent:( kitchen staff was having a meltdown and customers heard profanity all they way in the back. Check your glasses for floaters (we found lettuce in our drinks?????). You will also need to get all of your condiments and utensils. Don't wait on anyone to get them for you or your food will be cold. read more

Love this place! Food is great, staff is friendly, great selection of food and beverage. The Bonfire and Happy Jack are a couple of my faves and the wife's is the Steak Bowl. 4 star because the quality of the product. I wouldn't go so far as to call it gourmet but specialty for sure. With brisket steak in the burgers. Sandwiches like The Crispy Snapper. Falafel with Arugula and Chimichurri. Turkey Bacon with Kimchi and others. I had the Shavano, 1/3 pound brisket steak burger ground local in small batches. Very good taste, not hand friendly. They assemble with Romaine so the spine of the leaf really throws off the ease to hold and bite. The bacon is thick, the tomatoes are thick and the Garlic mayo is generous. Try it by hand and you may need to bring a clean shirt and pants. I think the whole staff was eye-ballin me as I had no choice but to break down their beautiful burger creation with a knife and fork. The fries were too salty for my taste but fresh cut and a very generous serving. Overall pretty good place at a premium price! read more

The prices aren't necessarily the cheapest, but it's some of the best food I've had. I'm a self (and friend) proclaimed salad queen and I got the best salad I've ever ordered, maybe ever had, here. I got the nutty harvest salad (quinoa, walnuts, cranberries, broccoli, edamame, greens) with falafel ($12.50) and it was OUTSTANDING. My husband and I stopped at 50 Burger for a late lunch as we were passing through Salida on our way home and we were both pleasantly surprised by the food here! We both ordered the Cottonwood burger which had bleu cheese, grilled onions and spinach on it - it was absolutely amazing, it was super juicy, tender and flavorful, although quite messy haha. The fries were delicious as well. They had quite a selection of beer available and plenty of seating at the bar, inside, or out on the patio. We will definitely stop here again next time we pass through Salida. read more

Well I have a proclivity for Local spots, but that couldn't overcome the bad execution and poor value. My wife had the classic melt that she thought was just ok, I had the chicken sandwich and it was meh. The burgers are 1/3rd lb. but they run $12 or more. Go here. We didn't really look at the menu before going, we just knew it was our last night in town and this was one restaurant we hadn't been. Didn't really want want a burger but hey, let's go. We walk in and saw the noodle bowls on the menu and that changed the mindsets. Then we started talking to the fellow working the counter and things got even better. He needs a raise. Stumbled upon this place while driving to the royal gorge railroad. Stopped to have some burgers. Got a turkey burger with avocado and a burger with the basics. Super great buns and nice meat flavor. Busy little road side burger joint with great tasting food. We got the Cottonwood burger and a Uptown (normally chicken, but they let me sub in beef). Both were delicious, great mix of flavors and meat was tender and tasty. Fries were also good. We didn't get a chance to sample the milk shakes this go around, but this place is a great stop after a long day of hiking and running. If starting a decent, yet "artisan", burger joint in an defunct Burger King sounds crazy, it is. Now, this place is not perfect. it is just a semi-renovated Burger King with the ball pit removed and a bar quickly thrown in, with some kitschy Colorado stuff/beer distributor swag on the walls. It feels like the summer beach bars I worked at on the East Coast. The food is very, very good. It's locally sourced and well prepared. The menu choices are small, but eclectic, from bulgogi to falafel. I went for the burgers a few times. My favorite is the Shavano, named for a local mountain. The egg and burger are always cooked perfectly for me, making the very creamy mouth feel they talk about on Food Network. Which also means you won't get a burger past medium well, because...well, just because. The fries are hot and fresh, bordering on McD addictive fries. It is a menu you could find at Grand Central Market or Chelsea Market for the same inflated price. Which is exactly why this place has "popped up" in Salida. The other analogy to Burger King is the service beyond the register. Without going into a ton of detail, there were more flags than a Raiders game or a "nightmare" show on TV. And it wasn't the only time. The last time I went was the worst(jaw dropping) and it probably will be the last for a long time. Other places are doing artisan food and getting beyond the register right. The food industry is hard, especially in these days of fickle, informed patrons and the web. And I am by no means saying the food is the problem. It is quality designer burgers and food, without question. And you should go at least once. You won't regret it once. Chose this spot based on location and other reviews. I made a great choice. Ordered at the counter, the staff was very friendly. I ordered their breakfast burrito and coffee. Breakfast for under $10, wow. When the burrito was brought to me it was a monster and it was covered in green chile, that was not expected but was a great surprise as I am a chile verde fan. Great take on what could have been a run of the mill burrito. This was full of fresh spinach, whole pinto beans, tomatoes, eggs, sausage patties and cheese. It takes extremely friendly, awesome (and might I add very good-looking) cooks, dishwashers, cashiers, bus-boys and waitstaff. VERY impressed, starting with the charming and ever smiling young woman who took my order. The place was packed and with good reason. The menu is impressive and it's not just burgers. The ramen soup bowls, seriously delectable hot dogs on a sturdy bun that does not fall apart, the BEST onion rings ever dipped into hot oil, superb cold slaw... I just cannot find words to describe this high end "hamburger joint". The staff are young, energetic folks who really seem to enjoy their jobs and eager to answer all my questions. There is actually a milk shake counter and they use quality ice cream (Shamrock) with fresh berry ingredients (the raspberries they grow in Salida)... for $7 you can get a memorable milk shake that can give you flashbacks to the 1950's. Forget all the hype, and the expensive radio ads. It comes down to three things. The food. The service. The atmosphere. And to tell the truth. Only one element stands out. The service. I've had the "opportunity", to visit this establishment on three occassions; the first time at my own volition. The other two, at the demanded insistence of my group. Pricing is ridiculous. $16 for the ONLY double on their menu. The fries are inedible, ( unless you like slivers of hand cut potato flash fried so hard you feel them cutting your esophagus), the "pickles", are cucumbers set in yesterday's apple cider vinegar. The ONLY saving grace foodwise is the beef patty itself. Wonderfully seasoned, and the fry cooks know their business when you say medium rare. The staff is phenomenal, fast, n friendly. I had the Shavano burger, which had a beef party, 2 large, thick cut pieces of bacon, fried egg, lettuce, tomato and a garlic mayo with what I'm guessing was a brioche bun. The burger was very good, and cooked right around well done. Fries that came with it were pretty good. My daughters got the kids half fifty burger meal and they enjoyed it. Wife had a salad and there was a mixup on the order and the salad was a bit under dressed, but they seemed to have a good selection of salads on the menu. Didn't try any of the beers, but again was excited to see a pretty extensive menu offering. All in all this place was good and we'll be back. It's a little pricier than we like to pay, but I think the quality and quantity justified the price read more

We were passing through on vacation and came upon this spot by chance - what a find! Having just opened, it was quite crowded - so we did have to wait in line, but we were in no hurry. And it proved to be worth it. I got the avocado alfalfa melt, a hearty vegetarian offering. Crisp bread, melted just right, and with the spark of green veggies to offset the rich cheeses. My husband tried the Bonfire Burger and said it was excellent. Bleu cheese and chili, what an interesting combo. Portions were generous, so we didn't have room to try anything else.
