We were renting a cabin nearby and stopped in here for lunch one Thursday. It was a busy bustling place, but the service was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Royale with Cheese (7 oz beef burger, cheese, white onions, pickles and special sauce - that seemed to just be mayo) and fried okra as a side. The hubby ordered the Boone (7 oz beef burger with slab of cream cheese and a pile of jalapeños) plus a side of their tater tots. Everything was wonderful! While I was eating my burger I kept like looking at it and enjoying it and I could not put my finger on what made it special, it just worked and worked very well. Same with the other burger. This place had good reviews and allowed my friend's dog to dine with us outside. We got the parm tots for appetizers and it was very yummy. I love tots and they covered it with Parmesan which made them have such good flavor, I didn't need ketchup. I got the Viking burger and it was delicious with a good amount of beef patty. My friend got the hyigge hype burger and she really liked it as well. Our waitress was very friendly. There was a nice breeze which made dining outside very pleasant. This place was packed, and I can see why! So there was a bit of a wait, but they did have a text notice. They had outdoor pet-friendly seating and a smaller indoor seating area. Service happened immediately after being seated. Cocktails were refreshing and well-mixed. As for our meals, the ingredients were fresh and high-quality. And I swear, despite being very hungry, this burger was cooked, seasoned, and had the best ingredient mashup for each bite. The ranch was on the dill side and creamy too! We stopped by The Buena Viking with our dog and grabbed a table on the patio, which was a great place to relax. The outdoor seating was comfortable, dog-friendly, and had a fun atmosphere. We ordered the Whiskey Melt with sweet potato fries, tots, a half Caesar, plus the Rose Marie and Rye Tai cocktails. Both drinks were fantastic and easily some of the highlights of the meal. The sweet potato fries and tots were excellent - super crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The Whiskey Melt was cooked perfectly, but it needed a bit more seasoning to really bring the flavors together. Because of that, the cheese and grilled onions got a little lost instead of standing out. A little extra seasoning would take this sandwich to the next level. One small note: the $1.50 side sauces didn't feel like a great value. It came in a prefilled 2-ounce portion cup with lid, but container was barely half full. The portion size didn't quite justify the upcharge. The service was exceptional. Not only was our server attentive and friendly, but every staff member we interacted with - or even watched helping other tables - seemed genuinely happy to be there. That level of hospitality really stood out. Overall, we had a great experience. Great drinks, excellent sides, outstanding service, and a welcoming dog-friendly patio. With a little more seasoning on the melt and a better value on the side sauces, this would easily be a five-star visit. We'll definitely be back. read more

Man when I tell you this spot is fantastic, I mean it. Pretty busy on Saturdays but we managed to get a table for 7 easily. Located in the heart of Buena Vista on Main Street, surrounded by awesome shops and small businesses. Got an amazing burger and some sweet potato fries. Both blew me away. Keep this in minding you're watching calories or have tondrive. I think the popularity of Viking has lead to service that is more disengaged. Inwalkednin and back out without notice. Once I was back in I was treated to rolling eyes and pointed denial when I asked for a smaller beer. Bartender seemed overwhelmed, as was the hostess. My husband was kind enough to bring me food during work on our anniversary. I ordered a the caprese BURGER. I had gotten it before and enjoyed it with added lettuce and red onions. I was upset seeing I had gotten a sandwich with no meat! I have a picture of the burger I had gotten previously and enjoyed but was so disappointed but the order was taken wrong by some newer girl as it was a to go order. He wasn't asked anything about how you'd want your burger done so now when I refer guests on where to eat, I will not be sending them this way unless they triple check that they got their order right unlike mine. I was met with a sad sandwich instead of a delicious burger that I had hoped for on my already short lunch break. It was a sad excuse for a sandwich but I was starving as I had not even in over 12 hours. Stopped in randomly for lunch after seeing that the patio and inside looked lively, and especially because the patio is dog friendly and we needed somewhere where we could bring our little guy. Both food and drink menus have a lot of yummy-sounding choices, and our server was helpful in both making recommendations and generally being absolutely wonderful. We ordered the Whiskey Melt with sweet potato fries and tots, a half Caesar, and the Rose Marie and Rye Tai cocktails. The cocktails were outstanding! The salad was everything you would expect, so not much to say there, although the dressing was very clearly homemade, with a nice creamy texture. The melt was cooked perfectly, and the caramelized onions were a nice pop of umami flavor, but the cheese got a little lost in the fact that there wasn't enough of it. Also, generally, the meat could have used a bit more seasoning. Fries and tots were super crisp. They have a bunch of different side sauces, so we tried the Viking Sauce. It's their version of a fry sauce, although I would say it's not really a traditional flavor, as it was really mustardy (or that's what the overpowering flavor tasted like). Also, it cost $1.50, which, based on the size, was definitely overpriced. And, frankly, if the restaurant makes lots of fun sauces in-house (and you order fries and such), you should at least get one for no charge. That being said, it was still a pleasant meal, and there were plenty of other dishes that caught our eye. I think I'd definitely come back when in town again. read more

Looking for a place 1/2 way to Denver to deliver grandkids. Found this place on Yelp and thought it looked far more interesting than the diner a neighbor in Pagosa Springs recommended. Atmosphere was great. They were packed. The bar area was noisy but they had rooftop seating that was very comfortable and we could keep an eye on the World Cup final. Ordered 3 burgers, a chicken sandwich and a Shifrin Salad. Teenagers thought the burgers were good. Sweet potato fries and side salad looked good. Daughter in law wouldn't get the cornmeal breading on her chicken sandwich again but thought the quality was good. Hubs got the burger w cream cheese and jalapeño -- super generous with the cream cheese, too much so. Tator tot starters were decent but we wanted them as an app and they came out with our main order. In fairness they were slammed on a pretty summer Sunday. Server was attentive and personable. First time we've eaten in Buena Vista so we'd probably check out others next time, but it's a perfect Colorado vibe kind of place. If the grandkids wanted to go back, we certainly would. read more

The best burger in all of Colorado. There, I said it, no one can change my mind. As you can see from one of my photos, everything is stacked beautifully. In every single bite you get all of the flavors. The loaded tots had everything that I could ever want, and they were perfectly crispy. The burgers are massive as well. It's just phenomenal, from the way the burger is cooked to the way all of the ingredients are even stacked on top to the service that's given to you. The tater tots could've gone without the tomatoes, but you can just ask to have that removed. I'm so happy that this place now has a full on Restaurant front compared to the food truck that they started with. Well deserved. read more

We stopped in here for lunch the other day, for the first time. It was a beautiful day, so we opted to sit outside in the sun. There are also heat sources (which were turned off during our time there, since it was so warm out). Our server was great, asked if we had been there before, then proceeded to walk us through the menu, and specials. The sandwiches, and burgers, come on their own/individually, and from there you can order sides, or shareables - which are larger portions of the sides. I had the Raven Chicken sandwich - which is basically a BLT, with cornmeal fried chicken tenders added. The sandwich had a large amount of romaine lettuce, tomato, and perfectly crispy bacon - it was perfectly delicious! We ordered a shareable sized regular tots (they also have lots of fun/flavor combos, but we wanted to try the original), they were plentiful, and perfectly crispy. We also ordered a half Caesar salad, which was also generously portioned, and came with the dressing on the side. Last, but not least, was my Bloody Mary. It was a drink and sandwich special (any sandwich), and was delightfully spicy, with some very tasty pickles. I really enjoyed it. We will absolutely be back to try out more of the menu! read more

It is so very rare for me to leave a bad review. I love food. Waiting to be seated was the typical wait for a busy restaurant. Nothing out of the ordinary. We get seated and they accommodated my mom's disability which was great. Now here we go as to why Buena Viking still only got 1 star review... Then we were seated. It took 10 or so minutes to be greeted by a member of the wait staff. Did promptly bring water to the table. Took another 10 minutes to get our drinks, typical. Now we wait to order 10-15 mins. Order is given. The guy did notify kitchen of my food allergies. We waited over an hour for our food. During that time our drinks weren't refilled nor were we asked if we needed anything. Finally one of our party asked do you know how long it will be? Guy went to check, came back with the answer of a few minutes. I'm guessing our order was forgotten about. Does not take over an hour to make sandwiches or burgers. Get our food fine. My fancy BLT was mostly lettuce and my bacon was drowning in mayo. I like mayo but I don't want to consume 8oz of it. Everyone's sandwiches were loaded with enough lettuce we could have fed the giraffes at the Cheyenne mountain zoo. Yes that much. I almost immediately asked for boxes and our check. Was mad that it took more than an hour to get food. But I was highly disappointed that I couldn't go Nextdoor and get ice cream. Bum deal but not end of the world. They whole drive home which was 2 hrs my belly hurt. Now it's 1am and I am miserable because I have food poisoning. I feel as though my misery will never end. Never. Again. Never. The server was super sweet and personable, but wrecked our order. I also overheard the table next to us had billing errors for their order. We also tried their burgers and I had a salad so I felt less guilty plus I got to try some of my husband's burger so win-win! It's a pretty big space but gets quite crowded so definitely a popular local spot. The wait for us (4 people) was about 40 min around 1pm. While we were able to grab drinks at the bar, they didn't allow us to sit by the counter area where it was completely empty. They did allow us to hang by the counter next to the streets because they won't open and seat people there because it was "sunny". FYI: although there were a lot of open tables, we were told they can't seat people because they have to pace their kitchen due to it being backed up on orders. Fair enough. Officially my favorite spot in BV! My partner and I stopped at Buena Viking for lunch on our drive back to Denver. Looking at the menu a week prior had me craving burgers until we got seated at the bar. I ordered the special Steak Frites Burger with bacon and a side of tots. It was fun talking to the locals around us and learning more about BV. The burger itself was phenomenal, with Muenster cheese, shoestring French fries, and aioli. Gave it one more shot. Got a grilled cheese - something with Gruyère and two kinds of onions, caramelized and crispy. Sounded weird but I thought I'd trust. It was weird. The caramelized onions I think were just added in cold which kept the cheese from melting. Plus they weren't cooked down enough so we're kind of chewy. The crispy onions of course being inside the sandwich were no longer crispy. The bread was absolutely drenched in oil which dripped from my fingers. Gross.
