Went for happy hour on a Thursday and not very happy about it Seating was quick and easy- however waiter was lacking- although friendly he tried to serve us drinks that had been made incorrectly, served to a different table, picked up and then left on bar for a bit and then brought them to us. So, Christmas Eve, we decided to drive from Houston to San Antonio because 54th is our favorite restaurant back home and we don't get to eat it often. So we took an impromptu trip. Excited that we have the time to go and enjoy our fave food, it was literally a waste of a trip. Gas and rental. While we did like our server, Auggie, he did a good job at customer service. He told us he was only there for 2 months, but when he took our orders, he didn't write anything down. My order was simple. But my sisters order, was very detailed being a vegetarian. So, her food came back with chicken and bacon. She sent it back. It came back and it was the same thing, with only bacon. When we asked Auggie, he took the plate back, and asked the cooks and they stated that there was no bacon in the food. So he brought the food back to the table. At this point, she didn't even want the food she had her heart set on. She had to settle for a salad that she didn't even want but she was hungry. When the check came, she told me how much she spent. I told her that didn't sound right. She was charged $90. After getting a copy of her receipt, she realized she was charged for the food she sent back. After a min, Auggie came back with the manager and processed a credit back to her account. I ended up getting some wings to go. They looked great when I checked them. I get home and try to enjoy them... they are absolutely disgusting. Doesn't taste like the wings that I am use to. Like they been either sitting out for a while or they just stale. Something was off. Needless to say, this was our first time at this location. I also want to add in, we asked for a manager a couple times from servers that would pass by, and Auggie would always come back to the table to say, "you asked for a manager?" Manager never came to the table until it was time to take the meal that was returned off the ticket. A trip to San Antonio completely wasted. It's been a bit since visiting this spot. Tried in November but the hostess was surprisingly rude so we decided to take our business somewhere else. Tried to contact corporate with no response but doesn't mean it wasn't addressed, right? Today was a nice to make another attempt; not busy whatsoever. I ordered the double smashed burger with pepper jack cheese and upgraded to waffle fries and gringo dip. Burger consist of 2 crispy patties (4oz each.), grilled onion, pickle,aioli, and choice of cheese. My "plus one" ordered the Havana club and also got some waffle fries with dip. Havana club has smoked turkey,pulled pork,Swiss,pickle,aioli, cuban mustard on a baguette. Our server, Sara L, was great! She was patient, provided refills, and checked in as needed. Of course, when we got our receipt, we provided our code from the 54th street app. It nice using the app as it give credits when you visit so many times. Amazing service! Our waitress went above and beyond in making sure we knew what we were eating, options available and anticipating needs (extra napkins, to go boxes, refills). Looked for a quick place to eat, and Texas Roadhouse was not it. The Brown Bear next door turned out to be a diner which is fine but not what I wanted. Walked over to 54 Street and ordered the veggie burger that was their own recipe and it turned out to be really good. Added sweet potato fries and unsweetened iced tea. Perfect. I am from out of town and this place was near my hotel. After reading some Yelp reviews we decided to stop here for dinner. We went kinda late and they have a happy hour that starts at 9pm. It took a minute for a server but she when she got to our table she was very prompt. Download the app and get a free gringo dip. It was so good and the salsa with it was also really yummy. There is a very wide menu enough for everyone to find something they want to eat. The portion sizes are also good for the price. The drinks are also really good as well. I really wish we had one of these in Louisiana. It kind of reminded me of Bennigans in the old days. Unfortunately had a bad service tonight, but I am posting just to acknowledge that just because you have bad service I always hope good will come from it. The food was delicious and was brought out in timely manner. My frustration was that shortly after we were seated a server (who turns out to be our waiter) comes with about 4 drinks asking to confirm what we ordered so I' m thinking "uh oh". We give our order and we do get our appetizer, then our salads, then even out entree but still waiting on drinks. We also are sharing an entree. Also overheard other patrons complaining about their orders/service. My main issues were when I order a meal that is going to be shared you should bring extra plate, dressing on the side should be brought on the side. I had to remind them about our drinks 2 times & ended up having my drink after our plates had been taken away. I would never want someone to lose their jobs over this, just hope they learn from this, and our waiter did apologize & expressed appreciation for our comments. I have visited this 54th on numerous time since I loved this location better than the one on Rector here in Sa. I always enjoy to sit at the bar but the last two times within a week not what I expected . We sat at the bar a week ago and bar tender took about 20 minutes to acknowledge us just 2 of us . The second time just this past Thursday 26th restaurant not that busy since it was 4pm and in the past the bartender would take care of table and when I asked her if she would take care of our drinks she said your waiter will be with you soon but it was 25 minutes later and I kept trying to figure out who it was . Finally when the server came she was great . But I have to say the girl bartender that has being there awhile used to be great but not sure what is going on but she disappears a-lot from bar . Long wait times for burgers that were ordered & arrived to the table in correctly. As you can see pictured in the photograph is the witted lettuce being served inside the burger. Joshua our server who we found out was highly experienced showed compassion to the situation as well as management. I firmly believe the kitchen staff needs a quality check.
