I was recommended by my sister and her boyfriend who are avid fans of this vietnamese fusion joint. I can tell why this place is so well loved now. The pho genuinely is delicious. I did not need to add any sriracha or hoisin sauce in my bowl of pho. Only basil leaves and the beansprouts it comes with. The price for the big bowl of noodles is a good deal compared to how much food you get. Our table of 6 got to order and try different types of noodles ranging from Chicken, beef brisket, beef, and pork pho. Everyone enjoyed a little bit of something. Wow! Did you guys update your Pho broth? I've order from here maybe a hand full of times and it was always good. But recently, because I work from home a live down the street my take out game has me eating more neighborhood food - plus, I want to support. So I had the pho for maybe the third time and I swear it's better than the first time I had it. And it holds up well when reheated. The summer rolls! I can eat them all day long. We also shared the shrimp summer roll with peanut sauce, which was a highlight. The short rib was tasty, but next time I'd probably go for a standard chicken or beef - the meat was good in the dish but didn't feel completely natural for pho. The atmosphere was pleasant and unique. We didn't have to wait very long to be seated and the waitstaff was pleasant. After suffering through decent enough Vietnamese food and mediocre Mexican food on the Upper East Side (at least we know of some solid Mexican places in East Harlem), our little jaunt over to Brooklyn yielded this gem. We had a variety of Viet tacos, some elote, and some beef Luc lac on bun vermicelli. The tacos were astoundingly good and interesting. Very plentifully sized as well. The elote was quite good. The photos looked really good and when we got there, it was extremely busy which was a sign that this place must be really good. I ordered the lemongrass chicken pho and was a little disappointed when I didn't get much of the lemongrass flavor. I really did not like the chicken either. The broth, however, was delicious. Doesn't look like much when you walk by, but wow the fusion food here is so good! We had the Corn Elote (my first time) and it was delicious!! I had the Beef Pho and my friend had the Vegetarian Pho. Knocking off a star because the pickled veggies in it tasted a bit overpickled (not sure if the veggies are pickled in-house), but everything else was still fresh and delicious. I make it a point to eat at 5ive Spice whenever I'm in the area. I've enjoyed the Pho, and the tacos are mouth-wateringly delicious. But what keeps me coming back over and over again is the Classic Banh Mi. It's only $7 and perfect in every way (spicy FYI). I challenge anyone to find a better banh mi in New York -- I've tried but nothing comes close, especially for that price! Service is fast and friendly. Smallish space, but groups of 2-4 people shouldn't have to wait long even at peak times. Atmosphere is casual but charming enough for a date. And I like how the bathroom entrance is hidden behind a bookcase. The more is what I expect of a Vietnamese restaurant; it is the extra spicy sauce, the sriracha, and the hoisin type sweet sauce. I am a sauce guy, and this cold noodle, delicious beef or chicken (beef today) with fish sauce, is always exceptional to me. CASH ONLY. Came here while in the area on a Sunday with hubby. We got in right as doors open at noon. The restaurant got pretty crowded quickly, so I'd suggest getting here early or taking out. It's not a terribly big restaurant but food comes out quick, and service is very prompt. We started off with the summer roll (meh, it's standard, good) with shrimp. The peanut sauce was a bit thick. Then, we had then the banh xeo tacos (shrimp/minced pork). These were awesome. Filled well. Not overly greasy, served with good fish sauce, and lime and other traditional condiments. For lunch, I had the house spicy short rib pho which was nice and tender with flavorful broth. However in the future I'd stick with my normal chicken pho because the short rib was too much of an intense flavor for me. My hubs had the regular beef pho which was brisket/sirloin, I think. The broth was lighter and needed a lot more condiments. The vermicelli noodles were very yummy and chewy though. For some reason though, I got extremely sleepy afterward. Guess because I don't really have a lot of rice products anymore these days. Or maybe it was too much broth too fast. Think my favorite pho in the city has been at Hanoi House but this is a great gem if in the Slope. Would come back if in the area and try things like the catfish salad. Seemed pretty authentic. This is a super trendy spot, where the bathroom is hidden behind a fake wall of goods, and they serve you water in big jugs full of mint (a nice touch!) As a Vietnamese person, I can't say that this place will satisfy my craving for really authentic Vietnamese food. However, I can really recommend the house pho, which is sort of a special thing this place has that's not quite like something I've had before, it's almost a mix of other kinds of Vietnamese soups I've had (a little bit of canh cua and bun bo hue). It's a hearty, spicy, fatty soup with delicious and full pieces of meat. It's lovely to eat on its own with some added side veggies and hearty squirts of lime, but it doesn't need the traditional hoison or sriracha (so in my mind...NOT the pho of my childhood). Pros for this particular dish, the cool space, the attention to detail, and overall good food, but not a place for authentic Vietnamese food.
