Hubby absolutely nailed date night with Oye -- this was a full-on foodie experience. First tip: grab a table upstairs. Better light, great vibe, and look for Sophie's hole in the wall (iykyk). The menu? Wow. Creative in a way that actually works. Think cocktails like a salt-and-pepper strawberry situation that somehow hits every note. We shared our way through the menu: olives and a dreamy ricotta spread on focaccia, a fresh and unexpected watermelon ceviche, and barbacoa layered over what can only be described as cheesy magic. Every dish felt thoughtful and a little surprising. Service matched the food. Sam, our waiter, was basically doing a stair-climbing marathon (he claims 20K steps a day and I believe it), crafting and delivering drinks with serious creativity and hustle. The owner/chef stopped by multiple times -- answering my many questions and clearly pouring heart into elevating Durango's food scene beyond the usual IPAs, burgers, and pizza. Well, once and awhile you happen on a place where everything clicks, that's Oye - food, wine, service and cool digs were as good as it gets...I told our waiter Oye would hold up anywhere, SF, NYC, Denver, to which he quickly retorted, "then we'd have to live there, nahh!" We had 3-4 shareable including clams (must get, off the hook), crab cake, fresh bread (from the bakery, Bread, in town) with an olive ricotta blend that was insane, we licked the jar. They have the best oysters: compact and crunch! We also have the crab cake, flavorful but could use a bit more salt. When the male staff came to clean, (why do I feel that he's the owner?) and asked how's everything, I gently suggested that bit more salt might make it pop up and out. He takes my comment positively - I don't give advice face to face because fearing my Chinglish might rub the business/people the wrong way. But seeing the enthusiasm of the young staff, which is contagious, I boldly suggested. It's the second wine bar of the night. Theirs is a narrow two stories shop, that opened 11 weeks ago (did I get the number right?) with an upbeat youthful vibe. All the staff came by our table, sounded and looked genuine - thank you. The ground level has 4 modern paintings and top level has a large window looking out to Main Ave and couple of small skylights. Like their stems - Riedel. Pinot Noir is yummy. The oysters ... theirs are from Puget Sound in Seattle, flew in twice or three times a week. The restaurant offers two kinds, salty and sweet. (... hope I get these info right) I chose the salty one. maybe we'll return tomorrow to have the sweet ones. I've been to Seattle quite few times but couldn't remember how delicious their oysters are. Senile. Well, reportedly, Pacific Northwest oysters are known for their diverse flavors and textures. Oye is such a welcome addition to Main Street! We finally visited and had such a great experience. The cocktails were delicious and the shareable plates all hit the mark... we had ceviche, tuna tartare, and the barbacoa chimichurri tostas, and key lime pie for dessert. All really good! This place is AMAZING! We stopped in here on our honeymoon and met the incredible owner, Brandon. He made our experience wonderful and the food was 10/10. First time in today. First, they did a great job with this space - very nice and chill environment. Kaitlyn (so?) was behind the bar and was friendly and attentive and made a great margarita. An excellent little spot! Great lowkey atmosphere, delicious food that's unique to other offerings downtown, and the owner has clearly put his all into this. The ceviche & "crab cake" in particular are highlights. The ceviche is very crisp, fresh, and invigorating. The pineapple & plantain chips add a subtle sweetness that make me feel like this, paired with a cold margarita, will make for a perfect summer afternoon snack. Excellent oyster choices from Pacific NW/ Hama Hama oyster company and they have Blue Pool oysters too! The small plates are delish and very affordable. My husband and I went to Oye 2 weeks ago. When we entered we were greeted immediately into a beautifully remodeled restaurant that had a wonderful vibe, excellent service and the food was delicious. The menu is fresh Oysters from Seattle, small plates, incredible drink menu and dessert. The owner Brandon came over, came over to introduce himself and asked how we enjoyed our dinner. We had a terrific conversation and we were told he will be opening for lunch soon along with dinner and add more items on the menu.
