I am in Durango this week checking on the progress of the mountain home. I decided to stay in the downtown area this week. I have been Daytona dozens of times but this is the first time I ate at Mahogany Grill. I had the Steak & Lobster and even managed a fruit crisp desert before I was stuffed. I will be full for days and every bite was delicious. When my mountain home is completed in 2024 I will make a habit of eating here. The restaurant is full of old world charm and happy faces. For me this is a dinner place for family, friends and that special date you hope to impress. My waitress Kate is charming and wealth of knowledge about the area. She has lived and worked in Durango for 20 years. If the stars align you can sit by the window and have Kate as your waitress while you enjoy the last few hours of sun light.

This restaurant is part of the Strater Hotel, it's more of the high-end restaurant. The feed was fantastic we ended up getting the elk steak with a Demi glaze and asparagus. It was cooked perfect, more on the rare side then medium. The shops here have never let us down. I WOULD RECOMMEND.

We spent an over night here after taking the scenic train trip from Silverton. The 1880s venue was charming and nostalgic. The salmon was absolutely outstanding. The seasonal salad unfortunately had way too much dressing and was somewhat disappointing. I found the scalloped potatoes not worthy of being on the same plate as the salmon. The service was outstanding. Our male waiter was friendly, prompt and responsive. We celebrated my birthday and they offered a free dessert which I chose their chocolate torte which came garnished with fresh blueberries and a large strawberry. It was amazing to end a lovely evening at the mahogany grill. We were the last ones to leave. Highly recommended.

Since we were staying at the Strater Hotel, and this was accessible without going outside in the cold, and we had a $3 credit, we had breakfast here after our first night. Riley was an excellent waitress - attentive to all our needs, knowledgeable about the menu, and very personable. The dining area is beautifully decorated. We especially liked all the mahogany. Our food was delicious. We had one serving of French toast with fruit (me), chocolate chip pancakes (I sneaked a few bites from my 10 year old niece & it was so good), a short stack of pancakes (2 buttermilk pancakes for husband that he could not finish), bacon, egg & cheese bagel (nephew), and Posole (older niece). My only complaint was the $3 charge for the fruit. Riley said she'd charge me $1.50 - the fruit cup price. It was not worth $3 - only about 6 blueberries & a strawberry sliced up. The atmosphere was lovely. The location was perfect. The food was good. The service was excellent. It was just too pricey for a return visit.

Food was just ok. Steak wasn't special. I made a reservation for my birthday and they forgot. For the price to me isn't worth it.

There only appeared to be a couple people working, and the entire experience felt disorganized from beginning to end. I was really looking forward to having breakfast here based on the reviews, but after 45+ minutes between waiting and sitting at the table without even getting to place a food order, I'd had enough. Warm water was just the icing on the cake. Extremely disappointing experience. I walked out and will not be back.

If you are a lover of well done birria, this is your place. Craving authentic Mexican food? Yep, this is your place. We started with their chips and salsa. I think you can tell a lot by the salsa at a place. Lemme just say, I was so very happy! Their salsa wasn't too chunky, not too thin and they are not afraid to season and add some heat - but hey, don't worry it wasn't too hot if you've got a dad like mine who isn't a fan of "too much spice." Such a good omen. I couldn't decide which marg to try so ordered a flight. Best decision ever. Even as I write this, I'm still hard pressed to choose a favorite. They were all so good. Add street tacos, quesadillas for my mom, elote cob, and switch fries for my dad and we were all happy campers. The flavors were obscenely good. Staff were amazing and stopped by to make sure we were always taken care of: fast and friendly. Best combo ever. The place is also super cute! Loved the bar and simplicity of the concept. She took the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to Silverton, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go because of a medical condition that prevents me from traveling to high altitudes, and the train climbs to around 10,000 feet. After she left on her adventure, I decided to find some breakfast. While I was walking around town, my aunt called. She and my uncle used to vacation in Ouray every year, so she knows the area well. She recommended Jean-Pierre Bakery, so that's where I headed. I was seated right away and ordered a coffee while I looked over the menu. My waitress was very friendly, and we chatted for a while. She even recommended a few places around town that I should check out. I finally decided on the Croque Monsieur (brioche, béchamel, ham, and Swiss cheese) served with a salad. When my meal arrived, it looked fantastic. The sandwich was delicious, rich, and full of flavor. It was my first time trying a Croque Monsieur, and I really enjoyed it. The salad was fresh and crisp, and the vinaigrette paired perfectly with it. After finishing my meal, I couldn't resist ordering a pistachio cream-filled éclair that had caught my eye when I first walked in. It looked beautiful, but unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The pastry was very dry, and the bottom was quite hard. It definitely didn't taste freshly made. The pistachio cream had a nice flavor, but there wasn't very much of it. I mentioned my concerns to my server, and she kindly brought me a chocolate éclair to try instead. It also looked wonderful, but it had the same problem. The pastry tasted old, almost like it had been sitting for a couple of days. I would absolutely return for another Croque Monsieur or to try something else from the breakfast or lunch menu because that part of the meal was excellent. As for the pastries, they certainly look beautiful, but based on my experience, I would probably pass on them next time. This would have been a solid 4 star if those eclair had of been good.
