We are on vacation and in an attempt to eat local, we ducked in for a bite. The decor is awesome! It's 60s themed with tile floor and staff wearing matching "oldies" waitress uniforms. Big collection of Pez despencers, some cool Elvis collections and a working 45 juke box. Cafe is clean and roomy and parking is available. Prices are reasonable. The food is average for the place. Think Dennys style (no knock on Dennys). Cons- replace waitress uniforms when they get faded. Our waitress, bless her heart, was wearing a uniform when compared to the others, was old, faded, and stained. Pro-nice decor. The Pez dispensers and Elvis memorabilia were cool. read more

This was the last thing I did on my Albuquerque trip before flying home on Thursday May 11th. Like a lot of other Yelpers, I like the 1950's atmosphere. I ended up getting the 66 Burger with fries ($11.49). Albuquerque likes its chilis, and this particular burger comes with green chili. I also got the chocolate shake, without realizing I could've instead ordered one of the more interesting combinations. Anyway, I enjoyed my last meal in Albuquerque. Take a trip back to a time where the music is from a jukebox and dessert is freshly made. The sound of your favorite soda or shake being made behind the diner bar adds to the ambiance. I liked everything from the vintage aluminum 1960 Christmas Tree to memorabilia displayed throughout, however my fries and burger left me wanting. I recommend they're Cadilac shakeout that comes with Oreos strawberries and it absolutely amazing!! We order the children fried chicken sandwich with fries. I don't know how you can have stringy chicken but it was. I couldn't eat half the sandwich. Coffee cost was $2.59 a cup which is high. I really love the atmosphere at this diner. Everything from the hundreds of vintage Pez dispensers to the waitress outfits was just so fun. Our server was so sweet and was on it. The menu was very limited, even for a place trying to focus on its history. Also, even though they focus on being a diner of the past, there were no options for any old fashioned drinks, like phosphate. Either you are an old-fashioned diner (with all the food/drink items to go along with it), or a new diner (which basically serves every current item ppl can think of). Came here a year ago with my roommate and his family, then came here again last night with some other Yelpers for desserts. The food is diner-quality, nothing special, but the service is always friendly, even when I came in 15 minutes before closing. The chocolate cake was okay, not super-chocolatey, but plenty moist, and my friends really enjoyed their cherry pie and mud pie shake. Bottom line, this is my go-to for chicken fried steak. Yes, they have fun Blue Plate Specials that remind you of grandma (Tuesday's chicken pot pie is my favorite). Sure they have awesome breakfast food and old-timey open-faced sandwiches. Sure they have some of the best malts and pie in town. Sure it's diner food. But really, I only care about the chicken fried steak. It's a real piece of meat, hand-breaded with just the tiniest bit of spice in the batter. And you can get it with brown or creamy white gravy. Or one of each. I've absolutely gotten cream gravy on my steak and brown gravy on my mashed. And I usually get double mashed because the other side items...well, I just don't care about vegetables when I'm eating FRIED STEAK. You catch my drift. I want carbs. And meat. And gravy. I had a short trip to NM in the beginning of March. The day I decided to dine here was actually my last day in NM after a long journey to check out the Bandelier National Monument. I was starving so on my way to the airport I googled food in Albuquerque. I happen to LOVE a retro diner. Everything about it was so spot on. I have got to say I was thoroughly impressed with both my strawberry milkshake and my hamburger and fries. The waitress was super friendly and attentive. It was the PERFECT end to the perfect trip. O.k., I know my last review I gave this place five stars but that was based on the hot fudge sundae I had a few days earlier. This review is based on my lunch consisting of philly cheesesteak, potatoe salad, and apple crisp. I went there for lunch before heading back to Cali. I chose the philly cheeseteak w/ a side of potatoe salad. First off, the potatoe salad was not homemade. They don't say it is but they could try to improve the "out of the box" taste it had. It must have been scooped right out of some big carton or tub it came in...it was F'n awful/gross. I couldn't even eat more than a few bites. The cheesesteak was nothing special, I've had better at airports. It looked like they sauteed up some type of ground beef and put slices of american cheese on it...cheese wasn't really melted too good. Now, here is why I can only give one star.... because Yelp made me. I wanted to give ZERO stars! The apple crisp was horrible, the worst I've ever had. I've been in the military and eaten at many, many chow halls that had WAYYYY better apple crisp. It was bland, pungent, not crispy, and just plain horrible....the worst ever!!! read more

I'm still full several hours after dinner! We took the kids for dinner and milkshakes tonight. The spouse works in the area, so they frequent this joint--I haven't been in years. Service was great (thanks Sebastian!). Food was pretty darn good. I ordered the meatloaf dinner with mashed potatoes and beans--thinking the baby could have the sides. Well, the beans were so spicy that they were not baby friendly. They were good, don't get me wrong. Like I said, I haven't been here in a long time, so I either forgot that the beans had green chile or chile in the beans is new. The potatoes were homemade, or has just the right amount of lumps and butter to make me think they weren't made from a box. Spouse got a burger and fries. Kids got a hamburger and chicken strips meal. Each were pretty standard diner fare. Dessert...shakes and pie. Mmm. I couldn't finish the slice of pie and the gigantic scoop of ice cream. All in all, if I had to do this visit over again, I'd get the tomato bleu soup. I remember loving it when I would eat here more frequently. They clearly play that up alot, as to be expected Party of 3 ordered cheeseburger, chili burger, and some fried zucchini. I had a red cream soda, which was pretty good -- of course, sweet. And only one in the party (not me) thought they had room to try a shake. Special flavor for the month is grasshopper. My friend said it was excellent. I guess the high fat menu is a hard sell for me. Breakfast merits a 3.5 but dinner is another issue. I ate there tonight actually... The Sunday special is the only real blue plate special.. all the other days of the week are pre-planned and printed in their menu. Having said that, they had Chicken Tetrazzini left over from last night. I guess I should have ordered a burger.. It was made with an oily cream sauce and had frozen veggies in it. Yuck. OK.. I heard you already .. I'll order the burger next time.. or at least get there early enough for breakfast. PS I was tempted to try the cherry pie. I was quite disappointed and felt uncomfortable here, my friends and I came to the diner around 7:30pm we saw the sign that it said it closes at 10 pm. We get inside and we're the only ones there. We noticed that a lot of the workers came out and stared at us like we were crazy, then we noticed that they were starting to turn off lights and wiping down specials that we were going to order from. We then ask the guy if they're closing soon, and the guy said yes. We were quite confused since the signed said they don't close till 10pm and it was only 7:40 at this point... we felt uncomfortable and felt the pressure that we needed to leave by the workers.. first time there and I don't think I'll ever come back! read more
