I liked this place and I came back. It was my third time. I've had no problems with the man who was giving me the massage before. Today I was taken for a body massage with a woman. The owner told me that my 20% tip was not enough. She told me to tip at least $30 for the $90 massage I got. That's 33%! I was not super happy in the first place because she changed my masseuse when someone else came -and I still tipped 20%. That was super rude. The massage I had by Owen was one of the best I've ever had in my life. I am a massage-snob and I'm happy to pay over $100 for a good massage. But I'd rather pay $20 for an excellent massage. If you like strong massages, Owen is your man. He's incredible. The foot massage (more than a foot massage) is performed in a room with about a dozen the red velvet chairs look like something that would be in a 50 Shades of Grey playroom. Christian and Ana would approve. It's quiet, peaceful, and for $20 you get a warm foot bath and an amazing massage that includes attention to the head, arms, shoulders, and legs. Come here to pamper yourself, release stress, and get a massage you won't forget. Tip: wear comfortable loose clothing, and don't come after you've styled your hair. I really wanted to love this place, mainly so I can have an alternative location when my main foot massage place was closed.....which was what that landed me here in the first place. Originally I was going to give this place three stars but after what I'm about to tell you, they are lucky they received even one star. So I won't be picky about the little things I think were wrong, b/c really I'm just comparing it to my other place but two things that were not great was: 1. At the end of the massage when you are on your tummy, they literally pull your shirt up and pull your pants down. I was not use to this b/c my other place didn't do this. They massaged OVER your clothes and sometimes even with a towel on your body. I was a little uncomfy with this and things only got worse when she pulled my pants down so low that I felt the air around my butt crack. There was only about 10 min left in the massage so I just suffered and went with it, but there were times where I contemplated on stopping and telling her I was not comfy with this. At my other place, you go into a private room if you want your clothes off. Communal rooms were all about CLOTHES ON. 2. I left feeling fine but 30 minutes later, I started to itch. I didn't think anything of it at first. The itching got worse and turned into HIVES (refer to photo I posted). Still even after this, I didn't even link the hives to the massage. In the morning, the hives were still there but subsided just a little. I took a shower and had planned to take photos after I did my hair and makeup. Well, it went away COMPLETELY. Coincidental or not, I have no idea but I'm gonna say I'm pretty sure my hives came from either the lotion or whatever is on their bed. Went in to try the service. Was very nice. Now I am not a massage expert rather I have had about 4 massages in my life but for 20 bucks how could you not try. I have now gone here a number of times and can say. 1. The owner is very funny in a elementary sense. You have to be careful to hear him as funny as some of his jokes are not sensitize 2. The massagers are generally good they work hard. The I don't provide a therapeutic massage but great relaxing touches 3. Always call in advance to ensure you can get someone but sometimes dropping in works 4. Always tip as I don't imagine the massagers get much other than the tip and they work hard. They're getting a low rating for two reasons. 1. Inconsistency in massage quality. Sometimes, the massages are great. Other times, I'm literally being harshly jabbed and rubbed down with unlotioned hands (definitely unpleasant) and they don't listen when I tell them to go softer. 2. The owner harassed me about tip. Look, it's a $26 massage. I was told that 20% would be more than enough if you wanted to tip well and usually leave $6. Typically, that was enough. Well, I come back from a painful session that left me less that pleased and decided to still be decent and leave only 15% ($4) and he lashed out at me for being stingy. He goes on a tangent about me being terrible to fellow Chinese people and how people pay at least $8-10. He also pointed out my previous tipping habits. He even pulled out other customers receipts, telling me that all these Caucasian customers pay $20-40 tip. That's pretty invasive. Here's the kicker. I felt bad for being a bad tipper and was willing to pay $14 just to get him to leave me alone, but he kept yelling at me and finally I told him that the massage wasn't good. He told if it was bad, I didn't have to pay tip, but then told me that I'm no longer welcome at his business. Honestly, I would have shut up if I was him and taken the $14. Til then, I'm gonna monitor my account to make sure this guy doesn't overcharge me. If he says I don't have to pay tip, I expect that to reflect that on my statement. read more

It literally smells like they've been giving happy endings all day in that place. Overall it was a very creepy experience. I was hurting really bad, so I took a chance. In hindsight, not very smart of me. The lady gave me great massage, but it broke my heart that she may be giving handjobs all day. I tipped her a ton. I treated 7 sweet Santa Clara Theta's to massages as a reward for their hard work this year. 100 Benefits saw 4 girls at a time and we had lunch next door at the Mexican place (delish). All of them had a great experience and looked so relaxed! Thank you for your patience and help. Personally, I love this place for a face, arm, leg massage. I tell them not to rub my neck or low back. There's no substitute for a Certified Massage Therapist but if you need a quick foot soak and a nap this is your place to get great, relaxing foot reflexology. First of all my male massage therapist was AMAZING!!! My 1 Star review has nothing to do with him.... When I walked in it smelled musty and warm...yuck! While I was getting a massage the owner walked right by me and burped VERY LOUD!!!! GROSS!!!! Also the phone rang several times and was very LOUD! I won't be going back. I will never step foot into this place ever again. The massage was fine, but I have a few problems with the staff. First of all, I got a massage for 30 minutes for $24.99. I was willing to pay the price and all because I had just gotten into a car accident and needed to fix my back. The massage was fine, but the lady that rang me out was not fine at all. When she ran my credit card and gave me the credit card slip to sign, she rang me up for $25, at first that was fine because she charged me a penny extra...not a big deal. But when I signed the slip without leaving a tip, she got upset at me and told me that I HAD to leave a $5 minimum tip for the masseuse. I asked her why, and she told me that "EVERYONE LEAVES AT LEAST $5 TIP." I did not see a sign anywhere saying that I was required to leave a tip, and I told her that I did not want to leave a tip, I did not see a point in leaving a tip. She looked at me like I was the crazy one, when she's trying to call me out on something that is a completely voluntary act. I will never again go back. Ever. I'm a bit surprised at the negative reviews here, as my experience and my family's experience appear to differ from many of yours. I got the one-hour foot massage for, if I remember correctly, $19.99, which is a complete steal. We came in right at opening so hardly anyone was there, and we didn't have an appointment for me but the older man at the front (who some described as gruff) greeted us kindly, as he recognizes my parents who come here often. I explained that I had a spot on my toe that was injured that I didn't want touched, and I explained that I had previously sprained my thumbs so I wanted them worked on a bit. The man at the front relayed this information in animated Chinese to the other employees to make sure directions were clear. I had a male masseuse, which isn't my personal ideal situation at a massage parlor, but I decided what the hell. The man clearly spoke limited English, but very often asked me, "Okay?" and "Too hard?" which I thought was nice because it meant that if at any point I felt like I was going to die, I had an escape route that wouldn't be publicly embarrassing. They WILL deep-tissue you up if you don't specify that you want it done soft on your back, for example. The good service I received may be influenced by the fact that both of my parents had been coming here almost every weekend for a couple weeks, and as I understand it they've always paid cash. Additionally they have taken practice to tipping anybody who works hard, does an excellent job, or who is under-appreciated and underpaid. Those of you who enjoyed your massage and complained about an expectation for a $5 tip might want to consider that the masseuse (unless they were particularly rude or unenjoyable) is likely getting paid about $10 to give you an hour of massage. Few hourly-wage jobs require more of you as a worker in a single hour than being a masseuse does. If your experience was decent or better, don't be so tight about a tip - the massage is already a really good deal. I can understand why anyone who had a terrible experience someplace would never want to return. I wouldn't either if I had the experience some Yelpers have described. But in this rare case, my experience doesn't resemble the Yelp consensus, and I think locals ought to give this place a try. read more

I was going to this place every week until I started noticing they were charging me $5.00 for a tip on my credit card on top of the cash tip I was leaving. My husband & I have been going here regularly for several years. Great massage at a great price. Unfortunately the last few times have been mediocre to say the best. And before anyone says anything to suggest otherwise, we always tip very well. We went tonight & I got someone new. She wants to give me a massage with a towel on me, so no it oil. Just a towel on my skin...odd. I wait and think maybe she will mix it up but nope. Finally I said something about it & she looked perturbed but the women giving my husband a massage right next to me said something to her as well so finally she massaged my actually body & skin sans towel. I don't know about y'all, but I don't come to these Chinese foot spas for a tranquil, relaxing experience: I come to get pummeled like to almost 6'3" bag of meat that I am. I called at 12:30, *today* and was told 1:00 would be just fine. The spa itself is nice enough-- I suppose I've seen others with a bit more ambiance, but, again, I'm not here for that reason. I was the only one in there for a 1/2 hour, and I suppose the only downside was that the door to the outside was open, allowing me to hear all the business from BK, Round Table, and the theaters. Owen was my guy and he was great. I requested "hard" and he did not disappoint... in fact once or twice I asked him to go softer! He must've been feeling it, too, because he asked if I was in the army bc I was so strong... Not an army boy, Owen, but I see my fair share of combat as a high school teacher. Owner is horrible! I went to get a massage from Peter who is amazing. I had a cramp in my foot from driving long hours that day, so I wanted a massage. Peter was not available for an hour, so I went in earlier to get two massages 1st hour with who was ever available and the after that I would have a second massage with Peter. The first massage person was horrible, she just put lots of lotion on my body and rubbed it around in a gross sort of a way. It was unbearable! I asked her to stop and wanted just to wait for Peter, but the owner said I would not be able to get a massage from Peter. This place is absolutely amazing!! I go here weekly (sometimes twice a week) and I have never had a bad experience. Both the 60 min foot massage and the 90 min back/foot for $45 is worth every penny. I frequent some of the best spas in the world and I can honestly say this gets the job done, if not better sometimes. For those of you that are complaining about the tip ... Why would you ever go somewhere and get and hour massage and not tip AT LEAST $5.00. This isn't the beach in Mexico. We live in Silicon Valley, these people need to make a living. I must say, as a pregnant woman at 38 weeks, this is my heaven!!! 60 minute foot massage which includes a scalp, shoulder, arms and back massage. I will be back this weekend and then again next week!!! Im the chick that is willing to pay 100-200 for my spa massage when in need. I love the pampering and spa environment, so with that being said, you are in a room with other people. There is spa music playing, but don't go in expecting Burke Williams. They are professional, friendly and very clean! They use lotion, which is much better than some places that I've seen use vasoline. Not only were they severely understaffed on a Friday night, the lady who massaged me was extremely unprofessional... less than 5 minutes into the foot massage she was answering her phone and talking loudly to the other masseuse, while massaging my head with one hand. While she did apologize for this I didn't feel comfortable so I told her I wished to stop the massage. Of course I expected some pushback but her entire demeanor changed and she berated me for wasting her time and demanded half for the $40 massage that literally only lasted 5 minutes at MOST. She insisted it went on for 10 minutes and since I wasted "those 10 minutes of her time," I was forbidden to leave until I paid. I didn't want to face any more backlash of her horrible mood so I gave her the $20 to get on my way. Definitely will not be coming back! I have gone to 100 Benefits Massage many times in the past with my mother, getting the 1 hour foot massage for 20 dollars. The masseuses are good at giving deep tissue massages and will usually be accommodating if they are being too hard or if you have an injury. But the last time I went there, after receiving a good massage, I tipped the man 25%. The Owner saw what I tipped, and demanded that I tip at least 10$ for an hour massage. I told him that I had tipped 25% for the last 10+ times I had gone there, and he demanded I tip more. I felt taken advantage of as a young college student as well as embarrassed by the owner. Unfortunately 100 Benefits Massage lost me and my family and friends because of the way the owner treated me. Good massages but the treatment by the manager means I will not return. read more

This place is right down the street from my house and I've always been curious about $20 foot massage places. In the past I've splurged on expensive massages that left me wanting more so I was skeptical to begin with. I've heard horror stories and read some bad reviews about this place but I thought I would go in with the mindset to not expect much. I called ahead on a Saturday morning around 10 am. They said they could take me right away. When I arrived I was the only person in the main massage area. It was very clean looking and the lights were dimmed with soft music playing. I opted for the $40 90-min foot and body massage since I was having some back pain. I got a guy named Peter who really went to work on my tight areas. He asked me if the pressure was ok once but after that it was relax time! The foot part of the massage is probably enough because they also do your neck, arms, and head. The body portion was more therapeutic than relaxing and I had to tell him to go a little lighter. He adjusted well though. Overall everyone was very polite, the place was clean, and the massage really loosened me up. I would go back. Warning to those who are tender or only prefer gentle rubbing- this place works deep in the tissue and activates pressure points so might not be for you! read more

I was getting ready to leave for So Cal tomorrow to do the Disneyland Half Marathon last Sunday, so my feet were in need of some pre-race TLC. I have agonized for 3 months about writing this review. I have been going to 100 Benefits for at least 7+ years and have visited at least 70 times. After all this time, I am boycotting this establishment. At first, I would go to 100 Benefits with other "mom friends" while our kids were in elementary school (our kids are now in high school). And, the shop has a "frequent shopper" punch card - so with every 10 visits, you earn one free service. So, I earned a number of free 60-minute sessions. First, let me say that I wouldn't have been a frequent customer for so many years if the technicians weren't good. So- to be clear- I think the majority of the technicians are AMAZING! I have been doing much more high-intensity interval training in the last 2 years - and with that comes more aches and pains. Accordingly, the frequency of my visits increased during this time. Needless to say, I have had a number of opportunities to observe this business. I will just cut to the chase: I strive to be a conscientious consumer. And there are a number of things that have made me feel uneasy: - Consistently, whether I go in a 10am or 9pm, I'd see the same employees. - I have seen employees sleeping on the communal massage chairs. - The pit boss (perhaps he's the owner) has been YELLING at employees in the back break room and in the back alley. - An employee left through the front door and the pit boss ran after her yelling. I could hear them arguing during my foot massage session. - With growing uneasiness, I started giving my tips in cash directly to the technicians. Once (and only once), I saw the pit boss approach the technician and he handed over the tip. -The pit boss once reassigned my technician who had already started my service and the pit boss attempted to provide my foot massage. All the while, he answered the phone multiple times and ran the cash register. Twenty minutes into my service, I told him to stop - it was a horrible experience. I wasn't sure what to do - do I offer to pay? I offered a $20 bill. He took the cash and apologized for the experience. (With hindsight, I am kicking myself for offering the money.) There could be explanations for all of the bullet points listed above (except the last bullet point - that's just bad service plain and simple). Very few of the employees speak any English, so it's impossible for me to discern the context of my observations. Then, I started to consider their business model. I looked at rofo.com and see that retail space at this location is currently going at $4.25 per sq foot. Assume this establishment has a lesser rate for a multi-year lease signed years ago. The vast majority of the services sold are priced at $20/each. Well - I won't go on about the math here- but this was another factor that caused me to pause. I grappled with what to do considerring all of this. I truly appreciate the services. It's a distinctive type of massage that provided me a lot of relaxation and therapy. Does my boycotting this establishment mean anything at all? Or, does it just penalize the technicians? Yes, the price is amazing. But at what cost? read more

I had my first massage (90 min combo chair massage) here tonight and while the massage therapist was VERY good, I'd definitely ask for him again, I was not at all pleased by the behavior of the desk guy (manager, I'm guessing). The customer decides the tip, NOT YOU! From what I've seen in other reviews, this pressure to over tip (the amount he was saying would have ended up being a 25% tip if I did my math right) is something that has been done before and so just for that, I won't be going out of my way to visit again...I'll find a place closer to San Jose for my next massage. read more

Very relaxing, convenient and affordable deep tissue massage! Just found it and have gone there twice so far and will again!

While I have had at least one ~great~ massage here, and one or two good ones, the last couple of visits haven't felt good. The masseuses seemed less experienced or less talented than they used to be. The prices are more than fair for the service, but sometimes it seems that no one on the premises speaks even a little English. Despite asking for "No lotion on face" several ways and with gestures, on at least two occasions, the masseuses still slathered my face and hair with oil, so my hair was an oily mess when I left. Saying "no lotion" when one started to go at my head with lotion just puzzled a third so I did not get my face or head massaged at all. Ambiance: The decor is quite okay, the large lounge chairs are comfy, and there are plenty of fresh towels; but I've noticed strong cooking odors from the back break area. If you go on the weekend or in the afternoon, know that this is an area where the local teens hang out; and the sounds of their skateboarding antics and colorful language penetrate easily into the studio. I suppose if you get one of the better masseuses and go in the morning before the kids are out, it's a good deal. But, it can be iffy. read more
