The people here are helpful, caring and good at their jobs. I have an older model car that needed a bit more TLC than usual and the mechanics at 7-Days took this challenge right in stride. Best experience ever. Super friendly guy at counter welcomes me. Price was pretty reasonable (I suppose! I received a discount for finding them via Yelp online (which I did before writing this review and not knowing I'd be getting a discount for it)). I went Sunday at 2pm and there was NO ONE, I was only person there. They've got free soda, crackers, coffee and a computer with free unrestricted internet access. Mini-fridge with sodas has quite the selection. Couple very interesting big books to go through. It was also very fast it seemed (about 10 minutes?). Previous experiences elsewhere its about 20-25 minutes once you're vehicle enters the testing bay. Coming from Colorado where emissions are state run (and quite rare) as well as few and far between, this was an amazing experience. Two guys were super friendly, didn't feel like I was a cow being hearded into the pins awaiting slaughter. Just a casual friendly experience. Will definitely be coming back. read more

It has changed hands and now they cannot "see" the timing mark on my car to do a smog check. I was told to identify the correct timing mark for them to use and bring it back. Don't get too excited about the $20 off through Yelp. They charge you at least that amount more than other places as a base-rate, so they can give you that "discount". It cost me $63 with the discount, which is still more expensive than some places that don't offer any rebates. Unfortunately a lot of yelpers (me included) just tend to jump on places that get good reviews and that give you a deal, out of laziness, without actually doing any research. There's a reason why these guys get such great reviews. They are super fast, very polite, professional, and are very informative. There were two guys working there but I only talked to Alex. This place just changed hands, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Their true value is in their EMPLOYEES - Damian and Antoine, who are still there and are excellent. Truth is, I had a hiccup due to the change in ownership. I had tested and failed almost two months ago, came back today to test again. I learned that they have to reapply for their STAR status, and there just wasn't a way to do the retest. No matter, they made the situation right and I remain a happy customer even though I had to go somewhere else for the smog. Note, they have changed their unlimited-time retest policy to 30-days, but that seems very reasonable. Anyway, like I said - Damian and Antoine are fantastic techs who are smart and completely focused on customer service. I hope they stay and have full support of the new owners. read more

Fine, fine. I have to admit it. I didn't arrive to get my car smogged with the best attitude. The day before was magically craptastic, and I was expecting all of that crappy crapness to flow into this glorious day. So, I roll into 7 days expecting a long wait and a hassle. Worst case scenario, my car wouldn't pass. So, yeah, I was in a snarky mood and didn't want a run around. I had that "bitch, I will cut you" look on my face. I couldn't believe how my luck was changing! Not only did my car pass, but it took them less than 15 minutes to get my car on the dyno and get me my smog certificate. I chose this place for my smog check based on Yelp reviews. It seems like all of the smog-only stations in Berkeley charge the same amount, and service is really the only feature that distinguishes one from another, so I chose the place that sounded the most pleasant. Just make sure to mention the yellow pages discount when you go, or bring the Guide to the Good Life Coupon. Upon arrival I was promptly greeted by an extremely friendly employee and directed to grab a drink and have a seat in their little outdoor waiting area, which is decorated with plants and flowers. Wow, I never thought getting a smog check could actually be fun but in the 10 minutes it took them to smog my car I was ready to move in. The service was literally perfect. Upon pulling up we were greeted with a warm smile. They had an outdoor waiting area with comfy chairs, and indoor area with cold sodas, hot chocolate, popcorn, TV, computers with Internet, a burning man dart board, and tons of magazines. I felt immediately at home. Just as I was settled in with my popcorn and soda to watch random music videos online they popped their head in to say "your car is ready but no rush you can hang out as long as you want". I am so frustrated with this business. I have used them in the past and had a good experience, but this time has been A COMPLETE WASTE OF MY TIME. I recently bought a Groupon hoping to save some money. I called beforehand to make an appointment and was told that I could just show up, no appt. necessary. I arrived at 4:50pm yesterday and was told that they were closing early so they couldn't smog test my car (their posted hours are 8am-6pm). When I asked why they were closing early, the technician would not answer my question. I went back the next day and the same technician told me that he could not process Groupons, so I would have to come back the following day, when someone who could process them would be around. He was very matter of fact and offered no apology for the inconvenience, even when I reminded him that I has already been turned away the day before. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. So, I must confess. I'm a TERRIBLE procrastinator when it comes to renewing my registration. Well hells bells, I don't have any excuses anymore thanks to 7 Days A Week smog. I did everything I could to put this off - I forgot to pay my fees and I even 'lost' my renewal notice in the trash - but it was just so *easy* with these guys. I was even able to get my stickers and pay my fees right then and there (thanks to their uber friendly office staffer, Apple). Service was great, they have a very spiffy waiting room (resplendent with a Spongebob pinata) and they're really fast - they completely dispelled my irrational phobia of reregistering my car. Some nice touches.. 1) The guy offered to stay open a half hour after closing on a Sunday, so that I wouldn't have to rush. Before he hung up, he told me to drive safely. 2) He vaccumed out my car (someone had broken my back window), just because. No reason- just because. He found some change on the floor and set it aside for me. 3) He smogged my car in 10 minutes - it passed. 4) The waiting room had every possible type of magazine. I kept driving past places that offered smog tests for less money on the way there, but I came to this place because of the reviews on yelp. I'm so glad that I did... this is the type of business that you want to support. Really is as good as it gets. -Free wifi - 2 computers to surf the net - snacks, soda, coffee - snacks for your dog - cute little outdoor area and landscaping - punching and speed bag and free weights for the people who couldn't go to the gym because the had to be here. This is my 3rd smog with them - so, over a span of 6 years. They are excellent. The business model is perfected. They have friendly staff that go out of the way to make certain you have a good experience. I really like the outdoor seating area - nothing over the top fancy, but it's clean and comfortable. Inside, they have stocked snacks and internet access. I am always in and out within 20 minutes or sooner. I don't redeem coupons, as I get my repeat customer discount - which is still more than a Groupon.
