a menu for a restaurant
Letitia J.

7 Mares is definitely a hidden gem. This little hole in the wall caught me by surprise, as I had not heard of this place before until I was searching for places to eat on Googlemaps after I finished work. Even from a brief look at the menu, you can get a sense that it is an authentic Mexican restaurant. I got the Enchiladas de carne Molida and it was really good. The food was very flavorful and the beef was pretty tender. The tortillas were fairly soft. I have had enchiladas that have melted more in my mouth and has a slightly more tender texture, but this was still really good. Beans and rice were good, and it also comes with guacamole (I know, right???) and a small salad on the side. The restaurant is fairly small with some tables and chairs and booths. The place is not fancy, but that is the charm of it! The food came pretty quickly (just needed to wait 10 mins). While I was waiting, i noticed that it seemed like most people seem to take their food to go. The woman behind the counter was super sweet. I'll definitely come back again to try more of their dishes!

Chimichanga asada

On the corner of Kalamazoo & Adams, 7 Mares has been on my list for a while. We grabbed a parking spot on the street and were greeted immediately after walking in and sitting in a booth. There were 6 different hot sauce bottles on the table, including one for shrimp. I started off with a horchata, complimentary chips, and half a dozen oysters, which came with lime slices. I wish they had come with a little fork or spoon, but I ate them with my hands. I heard the chimichangas were great, and my asada one didn't disappoint. It was super crispy and topped with tons of guac. My partner got the chicken tostada/burrito combo, which was good but not something that's my usual go to since there was a lot of lettuce and shredded cheese, so it reminded me of a Crunchwrap. While I'd probably stick with Los Mariscos de Pancho for seafood, 7 Mares is definitely where I'm getting my next chimichanga. I want to try their fried ice cream next!

My coworker moved into this neighborhood and saw 7 Mares and mentioned it to us. I loved the vibe of this place - it looks a bit like a house with a restaurant on the first level. There are probably 10 tables and a small kitchen. I ordered 3 tacos - al pastor, barbacoa, and tripe. All of them were seasoned really well; the marinated pork was very tasty, as was the beef barbacoa, but the tripe was the best I've had so far. It was the perfect texture, seasoned perfectly, and was so good! If you're apprehensive about trying tripe, this is the place to try it.

Definitely my favorite Mexican food in Grand Rapids so far! The food is so authentic and there is limitless options. If you are vegetarian, Halal foodie, or just like having options in general, this is definitely the place to try out. Also, if you're on a budget, don't fret, they have great options for cheap. #BrokeMedStudentLife They offer combinations, however, sometimes with separate orders you get larger portions. Love spice??? Try their homemade jalepeno sauce! They also have a sweet-spicy sauce but the jalepeno one has won me over. Add a Jarritos or Mexican coke to make your meal complete! (The only issue is that it is a residential area so no parking lot but plenty of street parking!)

Uh-oh, we found a new favorite!! We have driven past this place several times and today was the day to check it out and we are quite glad we did! The people are so friendly and the food is authentic and AMAZING! Of course, I about set my mouth on fire with my first dip into the complimentary salsa and chips! But then I adjusted to the heat and it was very good. Lots of people ordering take out and you can tell they are repeat customers, each one welcomed warmly!

Look beyond the exterior and try a taco. You won't be sorry for giving this place a shot.

Tacos were okay. More onions and cilantro than meat. The smelt were really good but priced too high

Service and food got too bad to stop for a meal while in GR for a visit. Sorry - you were once so good!

The staff was friendly and our waitress was friendly, talkative and fun. She definitely added to our experience. I hope we get her again the next time we go. The place is clean and large enough for 2-10 people in a group. They have typical booths, tables and is spaced out enough that you don't feel too crowded. The food was delicious! We got something with a bed or Mexican rice covered in chicken and queso. It came with 3 tortilla shells. The flavor was amazing and the portions were more than enough for two of us to share. Our friends got the burritos and they said it was one of the best they had. Now the drinks! Wow! They have a sangria margarita that will go down way too smoothly and warm you up right away. So good! We are definitely going back for those! Can you tell from all the exclamation points how good it was? LOL. We will be back and I hope that your experience is just as good.

The waitress was friendly and busy. The seating was a little tight depending on where you sit. Our table was almost blended into the one next to us. The food was good. The menu is partially in Mexican, so be prepared to either use a translation app or guess what you're getting based on photos. We ordered or thought we ordered the #9 lunch but got something a bit different but still very tasty. The plate was full of all the standard stuff, beans, rice, salad, main dish. The chicken under the cheese was delicious and moist. The beans and rice were flavorful without being dry. The salsa was unique. It was something of an acquired taste. The margarita flight was delicious! The prickly pear and traditional were our favorites. The blue one was a close second or third. The mango with the spicy rum was our least.

I don't know what they put in their salsa but I can't stop thinking about it. The food was delicious! I got alambre with no cheese (later on was told by staff that alambre is fajitas with cheese so I basically got fajitas), my friends got a shrimp plate, burrito plate, tacos and three meats plate. The service was ok when we went. It was busy so we had a hard time finding our server to get more salsa or drinks and my vegan friend had a hard time getting her guacamole and chips that they forgot about. It also wasn't vegan friendly and that was the only option my friend had. Other than the wait and it being busy, I appreciated that our waiter brought out a sombrero and we sang happy birthday to our friend. I would go back here again because the food was delicious, but I'm mindful that I may have to wait on service when they're busy.
