5 Star. 10/10…read more Highly Recommend. Best burgers in State College. Add in the experience with the Table Fries (everything fries taste like a Middleswarth Chip) the food here is top notch. One of our favorite stops in State College to meet up with family. Service is quick, the staff and waitress were helpful on suggestions and keep it real with you regarding what they like/don't like. The setting with the fireplace and views of the golf course and lake are beautiful. Love this spot. If you are heading to State College, give it a go!

I was disappointed with our most recent visit to The Field…read more We were here in January and had an excellent experience. The service was spot on, the food was cooked perfectly, the burgers were very tasty, the criss-cut sweet potato fries with hot honey and vinegar salt were fantastic, and the shakes were delicious. That first visit was memorable enough that we were excited to come back. This time, we waited about 50 minutes at around 5:30PM on a Thursday before graduation weekend. Honestly, that part was understandable, and we were prepared for a wait. We had a nice booth for five and ordered table fries, a few shakes, and five burgers. The fries were still excellent, and the shakes were great. Unfortunately, the burgers and service did not live up to the previous visit. My burger tasted more like stewed meat than seared beef, almost as if it had been sitting for a while. It was overcooked and under-seasoned. Our server was pleasant enough, but several sides, condiments, and modifiers were forgotten. Waters were never refilled, the table was not cleared, and a salad that had been misordered was not removed from the bill. I understand it was a busy night, but at around $40 per person for food at a burger place, I expected more consistency. I'll give The Field another try the next time I'm in town because our first experience was so good, but this visit was a letdown.

The manager was very efficient, respectful, and ran the place in a way you would hope. I asked for special requests on my burger and it came out exactly as I asked. It was probably the best Five Guys burger I have ever had. I wish I took a picture to show how big it was. Obviously the prices are still Five Guys prices... so a little high, BUT at this location they are Worth it! I will be coming back. FYI I visited this location on 07/07/26 and it was around lunch time.

State College Five Guys (FG) is tucked away in a little shopping area on College Ave. At one time…read moreit was a Wendy's but those days are long gone. Parking is on the street, in the nearby garage or in the few spaces around the adjacent businesses. The interior is like most FG's, simple, red & white with bags of potatoes and fresh peanuts. I've always been a fan of FG's but with a lot more "fresh" fast options opened, it's dropped off my radar in recent years. For the uninitiated FG's is unique in that the burger is a fresh, never frozen 100% USDA beef, ground in-store daily. They are hand patties so they come out fresh and juicy wrapped in tinfoil. FG offers other fresh ingredients and the standouts are the fresh-cut fries and tasty buns =)! They also offer a bottomless supply of unshelled peanuts for free. On this day, I stopped in for lunch and ordered a "little" cheeseburger with fries and a drink. You can order the "little" which means 1 patty and saves you a few dollars. Personally, I'm not a fan of the 2-patty burgers. As you'll realize this place can be messy and the 2-patty sandwich complicates things a bit. Beyond that they give you numerous ways to customize your order but I typically go "all the way" -- sans mushrooms. Today's visit was outstanding. The burger and fries were fresh and tasty. I'm usually not a fan of the tinfoil (over waxpaper) but FG likes to lock in the heat. Sometimes the sandwich comes out smashed down. This would be a 5-star establishment all day but due to costs (around $18 for one person) and past inconsistency, I've knocked them down a notch. That said, State College has performed well the last few visits!

I don't drink alcohol so I can't speak to their bar or other food. 5/5 Food: where to start with the burger- its thick patty has a great crisp outside and medium inside and is graced by nicely cooked bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and a proper amount of sauce. The fries are classic, semi mush-semi crisp fries with coarse grained salt. The meal with a delicious burger that outdoes any other I've had in state college, even those that cost close to $20. Walking out the door, the meal (fries, burger, drink) cost 8.05, and I was happy to leave a larger than 20% tip to make it $10 even. I challenge you to find a better burger in state college, regardless of price. Honestly, my MBA-trained senses obsessed over what their business model might be and I'm hoping that it was providing enough for the owners and staff. 3.5/5 Service: Friendly. It was really busy when we were there and it was a tad slow, but we also had a group that came in at different times. 4/5 Ambiance: nice-ish college bar inside, clean bathrooms. Only complaint is that the booth table was too tall for the chairs, I felt like I would have been better suited to kneel to eat my burger than sit (I had one friend who did kneel to meet the height of the table) Tl;DR Excellent burger; confusingly great value.

For $3.50 you can get a million broken fries ( no fork) and for us the ketchups were all empty. It was funny watching other patrons track down ketchup. Seating is Lord of the Rings style, but you know that going in. Solid and expectations met, as 9 pm approaches, groups start coming as a changeover to a bar happens.

What a gem! We stopped by Sowers Harvest Café for breakfast and were genuinely impressed…read more Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The Greek omelet was light, fluffy, and packed with flavor. The Pesto-Port Egg Sandwich was simple but absolutely delicious with a perfectly cooked egg and great pesto. The Balsamic Garden Avocado Toast was as beautiful as it was tasty, with fresh ingredients, creamy goat cheese, pickled onions, and a rich balsamic glaze. The Spicy Mango Sriracha grilled naan was incredibly unique--the sweet and spicy combination worked perfectly. The fresh-baked pretzels are a must-try! We took home several varieties, and they were warm, soft, and some of the best we've had. Even the latte and biscotti were excellent. On top of the amazing food, watching the staff handcraft and bake the giant pretzels right behind the counter added to the experience. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and the service was fast despite the café being busy. If you're in State College, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Fresh ingredients, creative menu, outstanding baked goods, and genuinely kind people. We'll definitely be back!

The atmosphere hits you right away. Dark wood, old school charm, the kind of place that feels like it has stories in the walls. It is cozy, a little dim, and exactly what you would expect from a spot celebrating a century in business. The menu is not huge, but it does not need to be. It leans heavily into comfort food, with plenty of sandwich options, but enough variety that most people will find something they like. Prices are fair, nothing over the top. I started with the soup of the day, a sausage gumbo with rice. It was flavorful and satisfying without being overly spicy or heavy. A nice warm up, especially on a rainy day. For my main, I went with Bobby D's famous beef chili topped with cheddar cheese and green onions, served with cornbread. It came out in a cast iron skillet, which was a nice touch presentation wise. Portion was solid, not massive, but definitely filling. The chili leaned a little sweet, which I personally enjoyed, with just a mild kick of heat and a lot of flavor. The cornbread was excellent and tied everything together. This is not a fancy place, and it is not trying to be. It is a comfort food spot that knows its identity and sticks to it. Great for a casual meal, especially if you are in the mood for something warm and satisfying. I would absolutely come back again. Next time, I might even give those sandwiches a shot since that seems to be their bread and butter.
