This will be the last time that I choose to visit a salon despite multiple negative reviews. The salon is decent in appearance - OPI products, but no Essie or any other name brands. However, the customer service here was some of the worst I have experienced. After a much longer wait to get started my technician got up multiple times to check out and greet other customers. All in all the experience and manicure would've gotten 2.5 stars until I received my bill charging me more than was posted on the website. When I brought this to their attention, the manager was called over and I had three people yelling at me that the website was wrong and shoving pamphlets in my face. They may want to consider updating the website or posting a sign at the front desk to avoid such confusion. I could have been understanding in the situation if I had received an apology or had not been treated so poorly. I do not recommend giving them your business. read more

So, I've been coming to this salon for about six months and I've had fair manicures and pedicures. It's been good enough for me to come back although I've had much better service from other salons. Today however I went in for a manicure and they took the utensils out of a sterilization bag that was not autoclaved or sterilized. They give the perception that the utensils were sterile. I think they just take utensils and put them in the bag to make you think that they are clean. Paul, the owner, told the girl (in Vietnamese) to put the utensils into a blue colored liquid and I don't even know what that was. I really don't like someone to BS me and give the appearance that the utensils are sterile. I'm a physician and I know what the color indicators are on the back of the bag and they were never autoclaveD. I've been using Mimi for 8 years! I am a cosmetologist and own my own salon so I am a very picky, hard to please client. This spa is super clean, has a gorgeous atmosphere and they use awesome products. My favorite service is the Herbal Spa pedicure and is so worth the splurge! It includes lots of massaging, hot stones, and the products are chosen from a menu of herbal concoctions. I will continue to give them business as long as I'm in Hampton Roads. The absolute worst pedicure I have ever had, my tech Lynn, asked if I wanted my nails trimmed and I said yes, she then preceded to cut them all they way down rounding each one to the very base of nail bed. My nails look hideous as if I tore each one down to the quick. My nails upon going in were straight across filed nicely and needing a slight trim, unfortunately I had not been to this salon in years and just decided to try them again. I did not see how she was cutting until she stopped. I was shaking with horror of their appearance and complained to the owner who just walked away and she kept saying "you asked me to do" I've had pedicures forever and never has anyone cut them this way, I'm wondering if she has even had training. It actually deserve zero stars and I will never go back there!!! read more

I am from out of town, and flew into the area to be with my daughter during her pregnancy. Both of my daughters decided to have services at My Spa & Nails, my older daughter and I were doing mani/pedi's and my younger daughter was just getting a mani. My daughters are 30 and 35, and my oldest daughter is 9 months pregnant. My younger daughter and I arrived first, I told the attendant 3 times I was waiting for my older daughter. She still INSISTED I follow her to the foot bath, ran the water and was insisting that I begin my pedicure without my daughter. There were a total of 4 other customers in the salon at this time and no one was waiting. I put my foot down and insisted on waiting for my daughter, the attendant was sulky got up and began complaining to her co worker. My daughter walked in at that moment. We were directed to sit in a line of 3 foot bath chairs. By this time there was only one other customer having a pedicure. At least 4 chairs were empty. My younger daughter, having been bullied into getting her manicure early, has finished and was talking to her sister and I. It was awkward as she was standing at a corner in front of the third empty chair talking and because the attendants did not seem to listen or CARE that we all wanted our services around the same time, there was a huge time disparity. My younger daughter asked the attendant doing my older daughter's pedi if she could sit in the empty chair and was told NO. The place was empty, both my other daughter and I were shocked at the rudeness of the response. However rude seems to be the Modus operandi at My Spa & Nails, if you are in doubt, just check out the plaques at every manicure station "No reading or cell phone use allowed"....really??? I am not 5 there is nothing to look at as there is no TV and the attendants are neither friendly or encourage conversation. I WILL NEVER GO BACK AND NEITHER WILL MY DAUGHTERS....you need to rethink the way you treat your CUSTOMERS or you will be just another business that opens and closes due to lack of clients. read more

I first came to this salon 2 years ago when I first moved to VB from the midwest. I was a walk in and was assigned a very nice young lady. Half way into my manicure, Paul, the owner assigned the nice lady to start a pedicure for an incoming client. He made me move to his station to complete my manicure. Everything was going fine until a young lady entered the salon and sat down next to me. Paul and the lady had a conversation in their native language until the end of my manicure, about 15 minutes. I felt that I was treated rudely and declared I would never go back. 2 weeks ago I decided to give the salon a 2nd chance. A very nice woman named Yvonne gave me a pedicure and manicure. She was very meticulous with her work and she did a great job. While I was getting my work done, I had a long time to observe the relationship between Paul the owner and the female technicians in the salon. I am a retired teacher of over 30 years and my instincts of observation are very keen. There is a very Svengali like atmosphere here. He seems to be avoided. He spent a lot of the time having a cigarette out front. Yesterday, I came in to get another gel manicure. I was asked to pick out a color and sit at the first station and someone would be right with me. About 15 minutes later Paul rushed in and told me he would be right there. I was reluctant at first but decided to let him do my nails. At this time I noticed 2 signs to the sides of me requesting clients to not use cell phones or read. That is a very reasonable request. We were talking and having a nice conversation when I mentioned my son who lives in Germany. The lady across the room engaged in the conversation. Paul became annoyed and kept yanking my finger and hand into position. I was annoyed but I let it go. Maybe I was wrong. Paul finished putting gel on my right hand when he jumped up to help a customer at the counter. I put my right hand under the light to cure. When he came back, he was angry that I had put my hand under the light. He chastised me like a child. At that time, the shop phone rang. He jumped up and answered the phone. He began a conversation in his native language that was going on and on. He continued to work on my manicure as he talked on the phone. This is the same position I was in on the first visit. Frustrated, I pulled my hand away. He gave me a vicious stare and I told him to finish his phone call and then complete my nails. He began to loudly protest but I cut him off by saying that he should quit arguing and complete my nails so that I can pay and get out of here. He still continued to stare at me. At that time I divulged to him the story of my first encounter with his salon and it looks like things haven't changed. I then added that the women who work here are delightful and do good work, but him, he is no treat. With that he hastily completed my manicure and I paid and tipped him. YES I tipped him. I am an honest person and will tip for work done. I feel sorry for the good women who work with this man! If you want a wonderful nail spa experience, go to DB Nails. It is located two blocks away in the Walmart strip mall. A more relaxing and pleasurable experience. Don't waste your time and money on My Spa and Nails. read more

If I could I would give this place no stars, the owner tried to pick a fight with me over because I usd wrong terminology, when I asks for a manicure, he preceded to do ell me that I was wrong, and then treated me in a rude way. Even after said ok, this is what wasn't, he was still insisting that I was wrong, and then I politely said that I didn't want him to do my nails. I was warned not to come here and really should have listened. I came in and asked for a pedicure and a full set and was told to sit in a pedicure chair. There were clearly two people waiting I had of me as well. So I waited in the chair for about 15 minutes and when one technician started on one of the people in front of me I told one of the techs that I was going to walk two doors over and grab a drink at Starbucks while I was waiting. She became very frantic and told me no, that I could not go. I told her that there was still another person in front of me and I could see that the other techs were busy and not close to being done. She continued to frantically try to get me to stay. I said ma'am I'm going to get a drink at Starbucks and she said no no we have water here. She kept talking to the owner in another language and the word "Starbucks" was repeated several times. I started walking out and the owner told me that a tech was ready, but she was clearly still painting a girls nails. I went and got my drink and told him I would be right back. I came back, and after all the fuss, continued to sit there for another 10 minutes before anyone came over to do my nails. I told the technician that I had a small blister on top of my left great toe and to please just be careful around it. She immediately started scrubbing my toe with nail polish remover and the entire time she was painting my nails had without impressed right on my blister. I kept asking her really nicely to stop and she would say sorry then go right back to doing it again. It was really painful and I couldn't get her to stop. Once she was done and I saw the paint job, I told her I was unhappy. The owner and another technician came over and repeatedly told me how great my nails looked, when as you can see in the picture, they clearly do not. I told him that I would be getting my full set done somewhere else and the female technician that walked over grab me by my arm and started pulling me to one of the chairs and said no no we do your nails here.
