We got this delivered and sushi from Reno, NV.. 2 red flags. But honestly, we finished this entire thing. Fish was fresh, flavors were clean. Veggies were also fresh. Had sushi recently in Reno and everything was hot and mushy and not at all like this. We even looked at the menu AFTER we ate to order more...

Been wanting to try this spot for a long time and finally got a chance for lunch. Clean resturaunt with your typical sushi deco. Service was good. The fish was really fresh and the rolls were rolled and cut nice and small to enjoy every bite. I would definitely come again. Muscles were very good and not covered in mayo. Worth the cost for AYCE.

Great place for lunch. Love the sushi boat special with 2 rolls, and appetizer, and salad. When I'm really hungry I do the all you can eat. They have good long and hand rolls. Nice clean place to eat, staff is always friendly, but they never have enough. Always hiring. Still one of our go to places for sushi.

Sakana is the perfect around the corner very homey neighborhood Sushi stop. Behind the bar is Jose who will make you some amazing rolls and JC will also take good care of you!!

Sakana Sushi is nothing short of amazing. This has been our number one spot for the last two years. We have been loyal to 2 Tha Joint and Tokyo Sushi in the past. Their appetizers are freshly made in-house as opposed to other joints that order from distributors. I will recommend you to order both the "millionaire" and "bahama" rolls. All of the hand rolls are delicious and fresh. The only thing is that sake is not included in AYCE. Other than that, try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed. Service was fantastic, and the interior is very relaxing.

Came here for an order of salmon nigiri and the chashu ramen. The salmon was good, fairly standard. The chashu ramen with a soy sauce based broth was really yummy! Excellent ajitama and noodles. The pork belly was just good, not spectacular, but with the broth and other toppings, this was a delicious dish! Some of the better ramen in Reno, but I was sort of sad there wasn't any tonkotsu ramen. Kind of an odd environment, but it appears this may be due to renovations or moving things around. It's a bummer that you can't sit at the bar right now, but if you sit in the front section, you can still watch them making the sushi. Saw some sushi going out in wooden boats, which were adorable. Bare bones staff, so service is just a bit slow, but they clearly work their butts off, so it's OK.

This is no longer our favorite sushi place. Too many times we have been disappointed by service or quantity/quality. $30 for a 20 piece sashimi plate the pieces were 1/2 size they should be a HUGE disappointment that left me hungry.

I used to go to Sakana Sushi in Somersett years ago so I was stoked to see a location near my new house in Sparks. I would say the menu was pretty different than the other location, but I was excited to try this new spot. The restaurant itself is fairly small, but I do like that the tables are separated from the bar with windows. It's a clean space which gives it a nice vibe. Right off the bat I realized the service was great. They were all attentive and very friendly, which I feel like can be a rarity these days. We did AYCE and got appetizers, nigiri and a bunch of rolls. The Yakiton was probably some of the best I've tried. The nigiri and the rolls were good, however, I feel like rolls could have used more sauces. I felt like a few of them seemed dry. The fish to rice was ratio was good however. Finally, they only had ice cream on the dessert menu, which isn't a deal breaker, but I do think mochi is always well received. All in all, I'd definitely go back but might stick to just certain rolls that are more on the saucy side.

~My second Sushi review~ Note: For groups of 4 or more they automatically add a 20% gratuity to the check (correct me if I'm wrong please) . Service for my partner and I was Excellent, our server was very thoughtful (young lady around her early 20s) . Our food tasted fresh and they do their portions just how I like it.... Lots of fish with a little bit of rice (regular rolls). I had been anticipating eating here for about a month and they didn't disappoint. Finally, I went around Lunch time so the room was quiet, the music is good, and I never felt rushed. Expect to pay around $70 for two people and all you can eat. I can't wait to go back!!!!

We had a party of 4 and were seated right away. It is a smaller restaurant for sure. Our waitress was pretty good, although she never introduced herself to us. The appetizers had good flavor for the most part. The edamame was extra watery for some reason. The gyoza was flavorful and crunchy. The cucumber salad was great, with the right amount of vinegar and sesame seeds. All of the sushi rolls had decent flavor. I wish for the vegetarian ones that there were options for just cucumbers and avocados. The sake was flavorful, and good when it was cold. Dessert was either ice cream or a banana sundae, which we thought was included and then we were told it was not. They had the option of vanilla, salted Carmel and green tea ice creams. The ice cream portions were a bit smaller. Overall, I wasn't extremely impressed. I would come back, but not right away.

Im new(ish) to Reno and have worked my way through about 5 AYCE sushi places. Sakana is my favorite so far! This is the only one I've returned to multiple times. I feel like the quality is very consistent. On my most recent visit at the Sushi Bar, the Sushi Chef recommended to me if I wasn't hungry enough for AYCE, I should consider their 22$ dine in option that came with a House Salad, An Appetizer, a Miso soup, 2 Full sized rolls AND dessert. I was having trouble deciding my second roll and the Sushi Chef and I agreed he would surprise me based off the first one I ordered. He knocked it out the park! To top it all off they were served to me on this cute sushi boat! Being that this wasn't ordered as all you can eat I was able to box my left over rolls and take them home. I love Sakana. I love the decorations over the bar as well. It's a cute vibe. Service can vary as far as timing goes but they are always VERY nice!

The service was 10/10. We sat at the bar, and it was really enjoyable chatting with the staff there. The atmosphere is a bit noisy, but that's because it's always busy. One thing to keep in mind the wait can be long. However, if you don't mind sitting at the bar and there's space available, take it! Instead of waiting 45 minutes, you might get seated right away. Without a doubt, this has become one of my favorite spots for sushi. Thank you!

The time it was just my husband and I was so slow. We also sat down as the second table. They had a full staff and it took the longest. The food is good. I rate the roles at a 3, but note. I like simple sushi. So I tried the rolls just to try and see what they taste like. Its good if you like likes of flavor. It removes what people say is the fishy taste. I love the taste of fish. So I typically lean towards nigiri. I will amdit their sashimi salad as a 5/5. I loved it. I thought we could order 1 per round, but thats not the case. Look at the menu and its once per visit. The salmon hand roll is a 1 for me. It was not very crispy and hard to power through. So I dont recommend that, but they do a roll of it. So if you share with friends it might be worth while. The Niger I rate a 3.5/5. There was a lot of rice, but they also give a good size slice of fish. What got me was it didn't have that crisp taste when I ate it. Its hard to explain. The food quality is good. Don't get me wrong. Just the service and my simple taste buds. Its very popular and many locals love it. The lady was very sweet, when we got to speak with her. So don't let my rating and my taste buds hinder you from eating here. So give them a try.

We had a late lunch so decided to just go for ala carte but wished we had done their all you can eat. We started with the calamari appetizer, cucumber salad and two orders of their potstickers. Their potstickers were the star of the show and I would go back here just to order these. Some of the best in town in my opinion! They were doughy and flavorful, still tender not too crispy and just the right size with a great potsticker slightly spicy sauce. We then ordered the Snow mountain roll, the caterpillar and rainbow. We loved the size of the rolls, not too much rice, flavorful, fresh and good. Before our order came out we were offered a sample of a new dumpling pork bun that was so good we wished we could order it; but the owner informed us it would be coming to a store next door soon - so stay tuned for a new O'A dumpling dim sum shop to open soon in the same shopping center. I think what set this place apart from other spots was the well portioned rolls, nigiri, and the variation of fillings inside the rolls. I feel some places go heavy and hard on the fried shrimp but Umi had a wonderful mix of fish and shrimp and other roll fillings. My favorite hands down was the Vegas roll with the savory tuna, followed by the crown shrimp roll with a mayo topping the really brought out the umami flavor. While this spot is a little out of the way for us I definitely plan on revisiting soon and recommend this as a go to spot for both locals and those who are traveling from outside the area.
