One friendly staff member. It was a very cold day and it it's not much warmer inside where I chose to eat. I do not enjoy giving such a low rating, but the reason I eat out is not just to try new things, but to eat food better than what I can make at home. In this case my steak and cheese and grilled cheese (two I tried) would dominate theirs. I could make 6x of my steak and cheese and 8x grilled cheese for less $ than what I paid for both sandwiches. Wow!! Our family tried this place out (twice) over the weekend and no one was dissapointed. 1) For starters the loaded fries are a full meal all on their own. Tried the Carne Asada and the Southwest (both were equally yummy). The Hushpuppies are light and sweet with a wonderful crispy exterior. 2) The sandwiches are some of the best we've ever had. Tried the American CB Hash Fastbreak Board, the Chicken Parm and the Chicken Pesto Short Boards, the Shroomin' Steak (and cheese), and the Godfather, Maverick, and Johnny Utah Long Boards. 3) The mini-chocolate chip cookies are the perfect small sweet bite. Family owned and operated. You can tell they put a lot of love into eveything they do. The beach theme decor is fun. The service is fast and friendly, even when really busy. P.S. I just don't get it? I've heard that this place was great? I've heard that it was even awesome. . .So when I litterally moved across the street I had to try it! I've given it three tries and all three tries have been absolutely regretable? Three, I hear is no longer a coincidence and actually a pattern! Everything is unnecessarily named 'Boards', so The "Burger Boards", which is a hamburger, is tasty. . . I give them that! Quality meat and tasty homemade bun. But it's shaped like a surfboard (hence the name), so what you have is basically half a burger and the bun that resembles a Biscotti? Wrapped up we actually thought it was the side of pickles we ordered it was so small. And thats $7.50! ! ! Tried the Carne Asada Fries. .good tasty strips of meat on top of fries that are drenched (not exaggerating) in 7-11 type nacho cheese, and I think just a little bit of regular moza sprinkled on top? The fries were salted after cooking, and the nacho cheese sauce was salty as well, so it was just this pasty gook of fries with great carne aside meat on top. I only ate the meat. Also, my wife had the Loaded Veggie Fries. She looked at it and didn't eat any of it. Same pasty muck of fries at the bottom, and then veggies that were just the condiments from the sandwiches? Thinly sliced round tomatoes, some rings of onions and I think corn? Couldn't really tell through the nacho cheese sauce? Very salty!! Ok, also another time tried the Roast Beef Sandwich. I think they called it a Long Board? It was a yummy Hoagie style loaf, freshly baked apparently. . .very good! But, I opened it up and could actually see all the way to the bottom to the other side of bread? I counted 3 strips (not slices) of roast beef, a ton of chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and onions! Remember, I can see all the way to the bottom bread through the ingredients! I think it was $8.95! I'm not a hater! I normally don't write these reviews! But this food is not even close to college drunk food! It's definitely not worth the money, and not worth your time! And I've tried three times! I have to add one more gripe. . .the interior design is "not flattering". . . is that a good way to put it? Its Beach themed. Children's painted murals on the walls, uncomfortable hard benches, and wires and cables everywhere! Just not very appetizing. One of my favorite go to places to eat in Frederick. Sandwiches are awesome. They are stacked high and aren't cheap on the meat. Bread is awesome. I love their summer salad. Overall I thought it was average. We got the veggie southwest loaded fries, the fried green tomatoes, and the veggie gyro. The loaded fries were decent covered with some melted cheese, black beans and fresh veggies. The veggie gyro was not was I was expecting. It was a sandwich bread instead of a pita which was interesting. The bread, while not what I expected, was very good- fresh and crunchy and warm. The fried green tomatoes were good and not overly fried and oily, but were not super flavorful. Overall it was a decent find but nothing over the top. read more

This sandwich shop is pretty tasty. The "theme" isn't really my style with the surf shack thing but the food is pretty good. Can take a little long to make but that's ok because I like my food fresh. I don't know what took me so long to try this place because I live right around the corner. It was amazing!! I ordered a chopped salad with breaded chicken tenders and it was so far above and beyond what I was expecting. I just wondered in here one day when I was on my way home and holy cow. The salad has the standard mixed greens and other salad stuff, but then they add pickled veggies and tons of other colorful things that make it delicious. Can you tell I didn't really know what was going on because I was eating it so fast? My only complaint is that it wasn't actually *chopped* like most chopped salads. But the flavor was so good I don't care. I can't wait to try more!! read more

Went in to order 5 lunches to go. First ordered a buffalo chicken salad with no blue cheese or ranch dressing and balsamic on the side. Ordered four other sandwiches, two without onions. They put the order all in a bag and handed it to my sister and we walked out. Clearly I should have checked the order. The salad I ordered was made into a buffalo chicken sandwich that they put balsamic and ranch on. Oddly no other sandwich toppings. Just chicken drenched in 3 dressings and bread. Review: This place is awesome. Holy mother Mary, this place kicks many sandwich chops into the wind then blows them away. The inside is caribe, beach, surf, chill. It is relaxing and casual. The sandwich menu is off of the chain. I got the Ruben. Totally open faced Ruben. I was skeptical, because bad Rubens ruin my vibe. This Ruben was great. Good sauce, good meat, good bread, good everything. It was put together and plated nicely. Portions were perfect without any ingredient overpowering the other. Only seasoned sandwich makers can make this. This guy was on point. I met Brendan (I hope I spelled it right) He asked me how my sandwich was. I told him, shook his hand and left. I assumed it was Chinese take out since all it says on the front is "Carry Out", you have to be in front to see the small sign in the window that reads "7th street sandwich shop". Me being the yelper that I am, while I was grabbing a Starbucks next door...decided to Yelp this place. Boy was I glad I gave this place a try. The decor reminds me a dingy beach shop, complete with 80's beach music...but don't let that stop you. The service is great, but the menu was too long...they could probably cut it in half! I'd check their menu out online before you go. I saw the open-faced Reuben on Yelp and just asked for that and the hush puppies. Oh...em...gee....so good!!! The hush puppies were soft and full of flavor...good portion, I couldn't finish by myself and the sandwich was huge! I could have easily shared it and been perfect. I hated to leave it unfinished as it was so yummy. The thousand island sauce was very good. I will definitely be taking my husband with me another time to share a bite with me! Got a hankering for a cheesesteak today. after living in Philadelphia for 40+ years, and getting used to the offerings, it took a while to find something here in Frederick that was even close. Tried Jersey Mike and a string of pizza shops - nyah. But hidden in the Safeway plaza, across from Hood college's field there is this nondescript little gem. They need a bigger sign, and some attention to the interior decor, but the food is good and the people friendly. I had the mushroom cheesesteak, known as a "Shroomie", and it was as good as the average in Phila. Not quite Dallesandro's, but better than anyone else in Frederick county so far. The meat was flavorful, and plentiful; there was a good portion of mushrooms and some fried onion along with swiss cheese. Quite tasty. My wife (a Philadelphia native) had a regular cheesesteak, and gave it a thumbs-up. Yes, it would be great if they could get better steak rolls - something with a firm crust and a bit of chew. And one might find an occasional tough spot in the meat, but might not. But those are tiny flaws, and not enough to keep us from going back for more. They also have a full menu of sandwiches, soup and salad. A great little family owned business that is NOT a chain. read more

We give this place a chance for lunch every so often. The times we have been there the sandwiches are pretty good. BUT... The service is consistently slow, probably the slowest in town, especially around lunch time. This last time we called @ 1115 to order a sandwich and two salads and was told it would be ready at noon, which honestly seemed too long to me but we had some other errands to run so it should have worked fine. When we arrived we were told no less than 3 times that they were sorry but the order still wasn't ready. At around 1250 I went up a last time to cancel the order and they finally called our name. We had been here before and just got a couple of sandwiches. They were alright, but we didn't come back for a couple months, not really impressed. But recently we came back and got a salad, a sandwich, and loaded fries. Nothing was good. Everything about the fries was soggy and they were cold. The salad was absolutely drenched in vinaigrette that was far too sweet, maybe it was a good (albeit limp) salad but neither of us could taste anything else. Like before, the sandwich was mediocre.
