THE FOOD TRUCK: Located in the unofficial "Plate Lunch Marketplace" across from Costco Kahului, they're one of the tiniest trucks in the lot. Said friend bought three different proteins and I ended up with the meat taco, the one I would've chosen as I'm not a fan of fish and chicken tacos. Like in the traditional way, these were soft shell tacos. But unfortunately for me were made with corn tortillas rather than my favorite, flour. I just don't care for the taste of corn tortillas, but their variety wasn't too bad. Nicely toasted, they were sparsely filled with a few bits of well-seasoned and tender meat, some cheese, a speck of sour cream (add $1) and oddly spinach rather than lettuce. We came off the airplane from LA starving and Tacos Maui 8 Wonder was the first stop!! The garlic shrimps were so perfectly cooked, they had that nice pop in your bites and just enough garlic sauce and bits to make the rice below them taste incredible, I would of loved more garlic/sauce on the side, because I'm a total sucker for garlic. So a new year has come upon us, and I am back at the Food Truck area just across the street from the Costco in Kahului. I had the feeling for some Mexican this past Friday, and remembered a little small shack at the food truck area called - Tacos Maui 8 Wonder. What drew me here was the last time when I was eating here, I saw this business and was intrigued by the sign that said - "3 Tacos for $5.00 Bucks!" I made a mental note that the next time I come to the food truck area, I would give this business a try, and I'm so glad I came here! Upon walking up to the little shack I was greeted right away, and upon looking at the "3 for $5.00 taco deal", I realized you could get an array of meats in your tacos. You had a choice of the following meats - 1. Carne Asada 2. BBQ Pork 3. Chicken 4. Salmon 5. Vegan I opted for the chicken tacos, and if you want cheese & sour cream in your taco, there is an extra $1.00 charge. If you want guacamole, there is an extra charge of $1.00. I added some cheese in my tacos, and also got bottled water, but when I went to pay for my tacos & water, I was just charged $6.00. Dealages Yo! The Verdict - The tacos were OUTSTANDING!!!! You get 3 "street style" tacos in a soft shell, and some hot sauce. If you wanted a different hot sauce, at the ordering counter there was other varieties of hot sauce, and some beans which you can add to your tacos. The soft street tacos had a generous portion of meats, and the lettuce was chopped, not shredded. I enjoyed the tacos, and would gladly come back here to eat them again. Stopped by because of all the great reviews and close proximity to the airport. We just came off of an early morning flight and needed some major sustenance. We pulled in and the lot was packed with cars. It's a group of different food trucks here but I eventually found this one. I decide to go for their fajita shrimp tacos it comes with a two per order. They don't really offer a salsa bar. They offer beans and pico de gallo at the front. I was excited to get my tacos but when it came I was really disappointed. My tacos were swimming in a pool of oil or butter. I had to put them on a napkin to drain before eating. It was just too heavy for me. The spinach was a nice touch it helped make the greasy tacos feel a little lighter. The shrimp were small. I would have chosen to drive a little further out into town to get food had I known better. My go to spot when we land in Maui is Da Kitchen. Today I wanted to try something new, maybe a little quicker but still near Costco. Tacos Maui 8 Wonder looked perfect and it's literally right across from Costco. Turns out it's located in a little food truck cluster. It the tiniest little trailer. The 3 tacos for $5 is all I really needed but I'm on vacation so of course I couldn't resist the shrimp burrito. It was very good, loved the crisp grilled tortilla. They apparently grill it with the cheese first then add the ingredients? The cheese was so hot and melted, like a quesadilla but wrapped like a burrito. (Swap Meet Location) They are always consistent. I usually eat at the swap meet location on Saturdays mornings once a week, for the special breakfast tacos ($5) served only at the SWAP MEET @ 8 am. They are soooo good. My wife and all the kids love it. Make sure you get there before 10 am. Once they're sold out that is it. High quality food. Tried this little taco stand yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. I got the three taco special. For $5 it's a nice small sized lunch that won't overwhelm you. The BBQ pork one had a nice unique flavor. Try the salsa which isn't very spicy, and the beans to add more substance. Went to Maui Friday town party and this was one of the many food trucks there. A nice lady was outside giving samples of the meat on a tray. She let everyone try a couple of different samples with chips. She even told me take a bigger chip load it up lol! So nice with a lot of aloha spirit. I bought the 3 tacos for $5, all carne asada. The meats to choose from were carnitas, cerviche, and vegan.These were closest to San Diego tacos out here in the island. Carne asada was seasoned perfectly With fresh spinach on a flour tortilla.They even give you beans and salsa on the side. So you can put as little or as much as you like.
