Stumbled across Maui 8 Wonder at the swap meet on Saturday. $5 for 3 tacos!!!! They sold me with a free sample of the pork. I had two pork and a carne asada. The meat speaks for itself and only comes with a few leaves of spinach for toppings but I'm not complaining. Both meats were fantastic, and they had extra salsa and a bean garnish to add to the tacos if you want them. Five stars, two thumbs up would definitely drop by for a second time next time I make it to the swap meet. read more

My brother ordered the garlic shrimp plate that was advertised on the front of the food truck. The picture was a bit misleading because the picture showed a crispy garlic deveined and side shells still intact. However, what we got was a plate of disappointment. I always love good Mexican food! I can't get enough of really good Mexican food! Last time I was at the Food Truck location where this business is, I vowed I would be back, especially since I hadn't tried it yet and only saw what they had to offer AFTER I placed my order at another Food Truck. Fast forward a week...Went down to the Food Truck park specifically to try this place. After looking over the small menu, I settled on the Taco special, 3 for $5.00. Not gonna break the bank and gives me an opportunity to try the taste of something basic before I "invest" in the more expensive meals! Ordered the Carne Asada option and waited. This operation is literally a one man show. The proprietor is the cook, cashier and waiter, from what I could see. He took my order as quickly as he could, as other orders cooked, handled the money and then I waited. Although the wait didn't seem that long (about 20 minutes), it was. I noticed this guy was delivering orders to a table nearby and he made at least 2 trips to this table before he even started on my dish. After waiting, he called me to the window and presented the tacos on a foil covered plate. There was what appeared to be homemade salsa near the window for you to help yourself, but very unsanitary, given the plastic spoon used to serve it falling into the salsa after several others were seen touching it. I guess that's what you get with Food Trucks, since they can't control who actually touches their utensils, bottles, etc. Reminds me of the many cashiers at the local stores who I see sneezing into their hands and then continuing with the transactions by touching the foods we're buying without even purifying, washing or wiping them. Disgusting! This place is also located across the Costco Gas Station, off of the Haleakala Highway extension and is nearest to the road. I'm not sure if you can phone your orders in, but I wouldn't chance it. 4 stars for the cost to portion to taste ratio. The tacos are tortillas, which were fried partially crispy and pretty decent tasting. I'm used to 2 tortillas each at other "authentic" places, but not a bad tasting taco at all. The meat was tender and seasoned nicely and the 3 tacos were more than enough for my lunch. Drinks not included, unfortunately, but run about a dollar for a small bottle of water or soda. All in all, a decent taco for the price, but not somewhere I would visit during peak hours. If you're craving good Mexican food, this place is pretty good for the price, but the wait is something you're going to have to endure, especially during peak times. read more

Simple tacos and Mexican food. Here's why this gets five stars for a food stand: - Value - my wife and I had the three tacos for $5 special. We ate lunch for $10 and that's less than most of the other stands would charge for one meal. I'm a gringo from AZ but I know good tacos and these were awesome. Meat was seasoned perfectly. I asked the owner if he made the tortillas and he did he did - they sure tasted like they were. Aside from the meat there was only lettuce in there but there were a variety of sauces to try. I came here 'coz I was looking for Like Poke? and saw that Tacos Maui 8 Wonder has a Mahi & Shrimp Ceviche. It was something I had to try, since I like ceviches. The guy is friendly and polite. We didn't have to wait long and he brought us our order after a few minutes. They come with nachos. The taste is quite light, mildly savory, mildly sour, mildly peppery, reminiscent of a salad. It was a refreshing dish, though it may taste better with either just mahi or just shrimp, since they were diced into small pieces and I couldn't get a good taste on either them. For USD$7, it's a small appetizer dish, rather than a proper meal. Next time I would try the tacos if I'm in the area. read more

Carne Asada Street were wonderful All I wanted was a light lunch and that is what I got. The fresh basil was a good touch rather than bland lettuce or cabbage. Plenty of seating and the tables were all full. As is typical of food courts people were sampling a little of everything. This local taco joint is located in the little lot across from the Costco gas station. It's run by the nicest man, who greets all his customers with a wide smile. The best deal of the truck are the tacos, which go $5/3. Choose from carne asada, chicken, BBQ pork, salmon, or vegan. The carne asada were so delicious and packed with flavor! I definitely recommend. I also tried the cevice, which is served with chips and guac, and goes for $7. The owner brings your food, plus beans and salsa as condiments, over to you when it's ready. Good as we got in the Bay Area and definitely the cheapest on Maui! Only quibble is that the tacos are a wee bit on the small side. But check it (and the other trucks that share the same parking lot) out; its all great food at a reasonable price with a fabulous view of Costco and a car lot?! This is a great place to swing by as you first arrive in Maui airport and your make a Costco visit for food during your stay. It's right across the street from Costco. There were 3 other food trucks and a dessert truck all in the same parking lot so there is variety if someone in your group isn't up for tacos. The food truck are arranged around a tarp covered sitting area that is a rock parking lot. There are a lot of picnic tables to sit and string lights for the evening. My favorite dish was the garlic shrimp. Lots of garlic! The taco trio is the best value and the pork and beef is very tasty. The fish and shrimp ceviche had too much celery for taste.The man is also very friendly. read more
