I'm giving 4 stars because overall we do really like a lot of things here, but some things can be hit or miss. We've always had good experiences with the burgers, most recently trying the Alamo. Crispy bacon, fried onions, sharp cheddar, and bacon bbq. I'm not normally a bbq kind of girl but this sounded good and really hit the spot. My mistake was getting Brussels sprouts on the side. They were a little overcooked and had good flavor but it just didn't really come together right. The sauce probably could be a little thicker/more of a glaze, which might even help with the overcooking. Probably my bad though, because their fries are so good it was kind of stupid to even attempt eating vegetables. We love being able to get the different sauces on the side and usually pick a few each time to try. Luckily you get a literal mountain of fries so I just shared with my husband. We have ordered the mozzarella sticks a handful of times at my husband's request, but I'm not crazy about them. They could use a little more salt or seasoning. The marinara is good but the alfredo lacks a little bit in flavor for me as well. Hopefully next time I can get him to branch out to other appetizers, because so many look promising! This last time we also got a dessert special, which was essentially some kind of oreo brownie/blondie with caramel ice cream on top. This place is right near our son, who we were visiting. We are from rural Florida where no masks are required anywhere so we found it a little over the top... even for VA. Our server stood away from the table and would awkwardly lunge in to put food on our table and then quickly back away, like we had the bubonic plague. Fried pickles were nice and a healthy portion. My son's burger and mine were great, and my wife really liked her salad. Good beer selection on tap and bottle. We will definitely be back on the next visit and hopefully VA will be a little further along on the Covid mask thing by then. read more

I was craving a burger and being new to Norfolk, was hoping to find my new go-to spot. 80/20 Burger Bar will not be it. I didn't think it was too difficult to mess up a burger, but the meat was almost intolerably salty. I ordered a side of Coleslaw that ended up being 80% iceberg lettuce. Meanwhile, my fiancé opted for a meatless entree and got the portobello burger which he said was fair, but his side of Brussels were the real disappointment. I was expecting something crispy, flavorful, and fresh, and we received what appeared to be microwaved and slimy sprouts. I rarely leave veggies untouched but this went straight back to the kitchen. Other than that, the service was nice, although it did take them three attempts to correctly deliver our meal in its entirety. Our friends swear by the apps at 80/20 (pickle chips and mozz sticks!), so perhaps we'll go back and give them a second chance. Not for burgers, though. read more

Came here for some burger n fries after happy hour, I don't know why I really wanted a burger that night lol. It was soooo crowded during my visit bit since I was along so I just waited for roughly 10 mins to be seated. The staff are very nice and polite, and they tried their best to give me a good experience and I'm telling you why now. Half of the time after I was seated, there was a crowd of probably college students standing beside and in front of me(I was sitting the first table behind the bar and they are just standing thereto drink and chat). And this dude's butt was beside me while I was eating lol glad that he didn't release some gas or else my burger is gonna smell funky. Some girls are also staring me eating my burger for no reason like gurl get one if you want one lol. I know the staff tried their best to ask them to move(3-4 times) but I guess they just like to watch me eat my burger lol. I ordered the $15 Heritage, which has domestic raised bison burger with caramelized onions, thick-cut bacon and gruyere cheese, home fries(garlic, rosemary and parmesan cheese) that comes with the burger, and a $0.5 horsey sauce(horseradish, lemon, garlic, parsley). The burger is not hot enough but it is delicious. The bun is not much special, the burger and the caramelized onion are flavorful, and the bacon stripes are crispy and thick. The house fries are crunchy and taste good with all these season. I couldn't finish all the fries so I bought them home with a box but they tasted hard and not good anymore(just the next day) so I recommend if you can just finish it, if not just save a box. The horsey sauce is really nothing different. I couldn't taste the sour of lemon, which is a bit disappointing. Overall the staff are nice, the atmosphere are nice if the college kids know better lol, and the food could be hotter and they should taste even better. However, I will either try a different sauce or just skip the sauce. read more

Black bean burger was pretty good, lacking a little sauce and it was a bit too thick but the buns were soft and the flavor was pretty good. My husband had the Mr. Lahey and said it was pretty good but might try the chicken sandwich next time. Father son dinner date on a Wednesday night. There wasn't a soul dining in at 545p so we sat at the bar. Happy hour specials: $2.50 well drinks, discounted whiskeys and $1 off all drinks including drafts. Bartender/server was excellent; welcoming, chummy and the right amount of chatty. He just returned to work after getting married in New Orleans and it happened to be his birthday. Unfortunately, it was us that received the surprise today. I've been here a dozen times spanning many years and parties ranging from 2 to 16. This was once THE happening locally sourced burger spot in Ghent. Sadly, today showed increased prices but decreased quality and portion sizes. While the house parm fries were dependably good, my $14 'kitchen sink' burger was over cooked (well instead of medium) and topped with the toughest, overdone brisket I've ever had. It was very difficult to cut with a knife, let alone my teeth and the overall taste was sub par. My son's kid's meal was $10.50 for a burger the size of my Apple Watch face, 4 onion rings, 2 Granny Smith apple wedges and a cup of Sprite. SAY WHAT? He enjoyed what he called a tiny crabby patty but that's waaaay to steep. On street parking is present along with a private lot immediately behind the building. Outdoor seating available on their patio. Restrooms were fairly clean and decently stocked. Remember to lock the door because it swings open to the view of the entire dining room. Based on our experience today, I'll forgo the next 80/20 trip aka paying $80 for $20 worth of food. It's truly a 2.5 star but bumped to a 3 for the draft selection/happy hour specials and our fabulous server. It's okay, I guess. Food was lackluster. Service was okay. Apps- Bacon, Ranch, Cheddar Fries. Fries seemed to be deep fried for about 20 minutes at least. Mains- buffalo chicken sandwich was Ok. Wings were ok, and Ranch with it tasted like dried herbs in milk. My Caesar salad came with kale and seemed like it was prepared in 1995 and came in a cereal bowl. Although the food was nicely presented it was extremely salty. The fried food was fried with obviously old fryer oil as all the fried stuff came out dark brown. Waiter barely waited us the entire time and after handing us the check it took her an additional 25 minutes to take it. We loved supporting 80/20 this week for their curbside pick up! They make ordering super easy as all you have to do is call! They also made pick up a breeze and brought everything all packaged up to the car and we were on our way! During this time, you can order off their late night menu which includes most of the delicious burgers and sides! We went with our favorites, the Shell Bell and That Guy which is a build your own! We of course had to add in their oh so good fries-the inlet and the basic which added to the meal perfectly! To top it all off, we got an order of the mozzarella sticks which are amazing! I highly recommend you support this amazing place during these tough times and order a great meal to go! During this time of uncertainty, I am glad we can rely on a tried and true neighborhood restaurant! 80/20 has revamped their business operations to continue to best serve their customers and provide delicious local food to brighten our days. 80/20 is serving pick up orders of their late night menu. Most burgers are available and, most importantly for me, their various protein options like their house made veggie burger. They have fries and a select offering of small plates and they have have beer available for purchase to-go. Call when you arrive for curbside delivery for a contact-less like process and to get you home quickly and safely. Of course we ordered our usual That Guy veggie burgers with house fries. It's so hard to veer from perfection so we are pretty simple. But the burgers and fries are still delicious and the aioli scrumptious! So excited when I come home with 80/20 burgers and a new local beer for dinner. I also think it's great that 80/20 is helping the local community by participating in events that help feed restaurant workers currently out of work! Such a wonderful way to give back! So when you get here it's a nice little restaurant and you have to wait to be seated. The wait staff are very friendly and helpful with anything you are wondering about. We started with the fried pickles and cheese sticks which were both delicious. The pickles are oh my goodness addicting. I got a burger with a fried egg on top. Their ingredient, etc. All of the draft beers appear to be Virginia companies. I had the burger with an egg and bacon, my husband the killer b. Mine was a mess as can be expected once the yoke breaks. Still tasty. I had broccoli as my side and was relieved that it wasn't horrifically overcooked, and still had flavor. We've come to this place twice now. I always get the up and at EM. I think that's what it's called. Burger with an egg. Very delicious. However the spicy fries... don't get them. Ever. Tbh. I don't even know why they are on the menu... there is spicy and then there's "wtf " Moving forward, we always have a good time. The vibe and looks are really good.
