    Shrimp & Grits
    Leah J.

As someone who loves a good brunch, I was very excited to try 80/20 Burger Bar with my friend. Thankfully, there was a parking lot right next to the restaurant so we didn't have to find street parking. The doors were opened right at 11am (our reservation time) so we were able to be seated right away. Our server quickly greeted us with menus and we started with Espresso Martinis, which were amazing and only $7! Winning!!! Since I love fried green tomatoes, I decided to try the FGT Stack along with Shrimp & Grits. The FGT Stack were two fried green tomatoes topped with pimento cheese and jalapeños. The tomatoes weren't seasoned at all but the pimento cheese and jalapeños gave it a bit of flavor. Unfortunately, the Shrimp & Grits were very dry. I found myself eating the shrimp, sausage and veggies from the top and barely touching the grits. My friend ordered the Cinny Roll Pancakes and they were absolutely phenomenal! At the beginning of brunch, the DJ was playing a mix of different types of music, which created a really nice vibe. Soon after, karaoke started and as entertaining as it was, it was extremely loud. My friend's " loud noise alert" went off on her Apple Watch, which indicated the volume levels were very high. I love karaoke but wish it wasn't as deafening, we could barely hear each other speak across the table. Overall, the best part about our brunch were the $7 martinis and the pancakes! I wasn't a fan of my food. We both thought it was ironic that a burger spot didn't offer burgers for brunch but maybe it's something they can consider. Our server inadvertently charged us more for our drinks but thankfully, my friend caught it and he quickly corrected it. I'm not sure if I would return for brunch but I would stop back in to try their burgers!

Very excited to try this place out been wanting to go really bad to try a burger to be honest with you when I seen they had a karaoke brunch. I thought this is gonna be fun so me and a friend decided to go. So glad they have their own parking lot cause that can be challenging down in that area. I had a reservation, which was very nice because it was very busy if you're gonna go to brunch I really suggest you do have a reservation. The menu is very limited for brunch. There's quite a few egg dishes not too much as far as what we call a sweeter brunch like French toast pancake, and waffles very very limited. I will tell you I decided to order the cinnamon roll pancakes they were hands-down one of the best pancakes I've had. They were very big and they had a really nice cinnamon swirl going through them. They were extremely tasty. It came with tater tots that were deep fried. Nothing special my friend ordered the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese. I have to say it wasn't very appealing. it looked very dry. I asked her how it taste and she said it's OK. She probably would not order it again. She also ordered the shrimp and grits. They were very dry. They looked very dry and she said they were very dry so she was not too happy with her breakfast. We did have two expresso martinis. They were very good. So for the karaoke, brunch people were singing it was a little loud for the amount of people that were in there. It was very hard to engage in conversation with how loud it was when people would sing. It seems as though everybody enjoyed it and had a good time we were going to get up and sing, but it was so loud that we decided we were just gonna leave. One key thing make sure you double check your bill they overcharged us for our espresso martinis. Luckily, I noticed it before we paid our bill. They were very nice about fixing it. It was no problem at all, but just make sure that you're being charged correctly. I will tell you I was surprised that they are known for their burgers, but they did not have not one single burger on the brunch menu except for eggs Benedict with a burger and I'm not a person that likes eggs. I asked if I can get a burger and they said not until after 4 PM so if I can make one suggestion being that you are known for your burgers, could you please put a burger on your menu for brunch. Maybe do instead of the traditional chicken and waffles do chicken and burger. Will we come back of course we'll come back even if we just come for the espresso martinis.

This was my first visit here. My sister loves this place! First things first we arrived around 520 (it opens at 5) and there were already several tables seated. We sat quickly and were greeted quickly as well. We ordered drinks, apps, and meals. Everything was really good. The veggie burger wasn't the best I've had, I wish the texture was better. But everything else was amazing.

I tried 80/20 months ago and I've been dreaming of this burger since. The burger meat is grass fed and I love that. The big cheese burger has two cheeses and when you take a bite, the cheese just melts in your mouth. The burger is so juicy. I came late night so the lights are dim and I love it. It's a nice spot to come eat and drink. It's a vibe at night. They do play rock music or alternative music but I enjoy the atmosphere. The waiter was cool and patient as we order. The service is fast as well. For my fries, I did salt and pepper but you have so many seasoning options for your fries. If you want a good juicy burger, check this place out. One of favorite spots in the Ghent area.

Cool atmosphere and decor is nice and modern. Service was great! My party wanted to try this place, but wasn't in the mood for burgers. I decided to try their side dishes instead. Ordered deviled eggs, and they we're so delicious! I could of ordered another. I tried the Caesar Salad and that was also good. They provide big portions, so I was definitely satisfied of my order. I will definitely come back sometime and try their burger, but the side dishes we're also satisfying for me. They do also host events and live bands from time to time, so definitely check them out!

Friendly staff, great menu and creative specials. Love that the beef they use is ACTUALLY local and they care about what they are cooking. If you are looking for a thick, juicy burger and a cold drink--this is the spot!

Came in for some live music. Luckily we had a reservation because it was packed!! The music was great and I was surprised at how quickly we got our food based on the crowd. There were so many yummy options it was hard to choose. I got the loose screw burger that had mushrooms, Boursin cheese & pork belly. The burger was huge and flavorful. I would have preferred the pork belly to have been sliced instead of one huge piece. I cut it myself so it would be easier to eat. I got the garlic Parmesan fries ma they were pretty good. I think I would try a different seasoning next time. Definitely will come back again!!

Came for the live music they have on Thursdays. We had a reservation but they didn't have any tables ready when we got there. Once we were seated we knew we were going to get some appetizers. My wife and I got the fries pickles and the wing special they had. The fried pickles were good as always. The wings were pretty good too. Great spot for burgers, just be prepared to wait if it's packed!!

Will definitely go back to try their specialty burgers! My friends and I were here for the Mardi Gras Burlesque Spectacular and this place is so hip. Ambiance is friendly and inviting. There's a bar where you can watch shows, with ample space to mingle. I ordered side of beets served with tsatsiki sauce and goat cheese salad (spinach, dried cranberries and glazed walnuts). Both were delicious, the beets didn't have the earthiness taste of fresh roasted beets, more like canned ones). My friends ordered deviled eggs which they said were on the salty side and their Caesar salad didn't have the Parmesan cheese; while there was a whole lot of lettuce, croutons weren't crunchy. I'd say goodnight was a 3.5 ambiance was a 5 service was a 4. Will definitely come back on a non event night, maybe the kitchen was just overwhelmed.

80/20 is one of the best burger and appetizer spots and the best part is that they're open late! You can either parallel park on 21st St or if you're lucky, you can park in the lot behind the restaurant. Easiest street parking would probably be available on 20th St. The appetizers are fantastic. Every appetizer I've had has been good but I keep coming back for their spinach and leek dip and their mozzarella sticks. The dip is creamy and flavorful. You can get your fries topped with the dip! The mozzarella sticks are thick and have the perfect cheese pull. You can dip them in the marinara or an Alfredo sauce. The burgers?! You really can't go wrong. All of the ones I've had have been amazing. Down to the one covered in puff pastry! There are lots of options, you can do their regular burger, a meatless burger, or even a bison burger! Not only do I recommend this place for late night eats, a casual lunch meet up, or delicious dinner, but they have good brunch too! Service is good; I get what I order, my box, and a check. It's a very chill environment. Big dive bar vibes but one step up in casual dining

The great thing about the wait? It was well worth it. Piping hot food, served with that homemade flavor arrives on dishes that almost match. I chuckled at the mismatched bowls that hit our table. I felt like family before my first bite. Meatloaf! I can't make one, but I'll eat one that is well made. Dense, flavorful and portioned to take some with you. My bonus was that I got my wife's leftovers, too. It was delicious! It was even better when I warmed it for lunch the next day. Traditional sides, worthy of their own review, but I'll keep it brief. I like how in the dining area, they put covers over the overhead lights so it isn't super bright. AND THE DRINKS ARE SOOOOOOO GOOD. First time we went, we overheard the waitress say she didn't want to serve us, she was exhausted. Rightfully so, she was the only server. We held nothing against the server, we were peeved with the owner. The woman with the light hair. Took what felt like forever to even get drinks. They were also out of a lot of food... which isn't necessarily a bad thing... but the items I wanted were no longer available so I just ordered the fried green tomatoes. They were fine, they just needed more sauce and a bit more seasoning in the breading! The poor server was just miserable while we were there, and the owner was just kinda walking around telling everyone what needed to be done, not quite helping, more so micro managing. We ended up tipping the poor girl $35. I hope she got to keep it all. Fast forward to this week. We tried it out again. It was a bit warm. We had been Instructed that they had family visiting and if it got too loud to let her know. The noise wasn't the issue at all. When we sat down we saw that it was 76° inside! We wanted to eat though, so we tried to tough it out. There was only one waiter and then another girl helping him serve the food. Again, and I don't know how it happened again, the boy had said to the lady he didn't want to serve us, there was too much going on. She had told him he was going to serve us, strike 1. We ordered all of our food at once to make the poor kid's life a bit easier. We didn't get drinks until about 20 minutes after sitting down. (The pineapple drink bangs btw). And we were literally sitting there DRIPPING sweat. Even the owner had beads of sweat alllll over her face. We ended up asking for our order to go. And my husband ordered his sandwich without Cole slaw. We said that literally a COUPLE of minutes after we ordered. The food magically appeared, and they had US package it all up. And my husband couldn't even tell the owner that he asked for no Cole slaw, but she kept talking over him. And she ended up being the "polite" kind of rude after we asked for our food to go. We weren't angry, we were just hot. But looking back on the bigger picture, it definitely angry. Especially for the young people they have serving. The poor server was so stressed so again, I do not blame the servers. We tipped that bot $25 and again, I hope he gets it ALL. I 100% put the blame on the owners. This place should be a food truck... not a restaurant. The bad reviews didn't make sense to me.... Until they did.

My entree was the Gnudi with Ramps, Chestnut, Black Pearl Mushrooms, & Asparagus in White Wine Lemon Sauce. My son chose the Tuna. Both were amazing with perfect presentation. We shared the Roasted Cauliflower, which was a culinary masterpiece. When time for the dessert menu came, my son first declined. But I remembered there was a choice that I can never pass up, When the menu arrived I was excited to see that one of my favorite desserts was still on the menu. Olive Oil Cake with Lemon Curd on the side, you are wonderful. My son first declined to share but decided to take a bite. And....that was all it took. He shared the entire cake with me. It looked so good that I took a bite before taking a picture. It was a delightful evening when I needed one the most. Both my server Laurel-Manette and Addie were welcoming and friendly. I promised to return with one of each of the many types of glasses in the vintage stemware pattern. The small one used for my cocktail was the only size they had seen. Laurel-Manette made my night when she told us that dessert was on the house. If you've never been to Codex it's a must go! There's nothing about it that I would change.

Came into codex on a very cold January night of restaurant week and was blown away by our…read moreexperience! The servers do a great job of explaining the restaurant week menu and were very open and knowledgeable about their menu. Codex itself isn't much, very much modern and industrial but still finds a way to feel warm. Our food was next. level. We really enjoyed our appetizers- the pimento cheese dip and the oyster mushrooms. I'm STILL thinking about the oyster mushrooms. Our entrees were good too! Very different in portions- I only had three scallops but my husband had a good sized steak with a PILE of fries. I was happy with my meal but something to note for sure. The sticky toffee pudding. I am speechless. Some of the best dessert I've ever had, but like that doesn't even do it justice. I can't believe we've had Codex in our neighborhood for so long and I've been sleeping on it. Don't make the same mistake as me!
