We have stopped in the bakery several times, normally in the evening. We have found that they are often sold out of many items, which is a great testament to their deliciousness. We finally were able to try to chocolate bread and it was so good. Rich chocolate flavor without being too sweet. We took our items to-go and they do have a drive-thru. There is table seating inside. If you've been to one 85°C, you'll be familiar with all of them. They're very consistent in terms of offering fluffy, flavorful, not too sweet pastries and savory pastries. Parking here is near impossible on weekends, just get the closest parking you can in the plaza and walk over. This one is a little odd in terms of ordering drinks. There is a kiosk to order drinks from, but the kiosk does not let you customize sweetness. Ordering at the counter, you can still customize sweetness. The green milk tea boba we got was decently flavorful, but way too much ice and the boba was too firm for my taste. It's really luck of the draw - some days they nail it, other days the boba is left too long. Pastry selection availability was reasonable for dropping in mid-day. read more

85°C Bakery is a well-established Taiwanese bakery chain. You walk in thinking you'll grab one pastry and a drink, and suddenly your tray is full because pretty much *everything* looks good. The "breadiness" of pastries has that perfect pillowy softness with just the right amount of chew, and the sweetness is dialed just right, never cloying. We tried the marble taro, the choco bun, and the red bean bread, and all three were excellent. They also have plenty of savory options if you're not in the mood for sweet. You grab a tray and move through a small section of pastry cases. If you see something you like, grab it. Items do sell out throughout the day, and the person behind you might take the last two or three. Everything is individually wrapped, so if you change your mind later it's easy to put something back, just be a decent human about it. Once you've made your selections, you pay at the counter. They have a full coffee bar with espresso drinks, plus bubble tea and blended drinks. This location is in an Asian shopping center, so there's no shortage of bubble tea nearby. There's Milk+Tea literally next door, and even another bubble tea spot inside the 99 Ranch Market grocery store, so you could easily do a bubble tea crawl if you're feeling ambitious and sugar-tolerant. 85°C has blenders and offers a small selection of frozen, icy drinks. Like most bubble tea places, you can also adjust sweetness level. Sweetness levels vary wildly between bubble tea shops, but half sweet was plenty sweet for my taste, your mileage may vary. One small drawback, some of the blended drinks, like the frozen marble taro or strawberry banana smoothie, come with ice cream and can't be made dairy-free. While some milk teas can be swapped for soy or oat milk, those frozen options are dairy-only, something to keep in mind if you're vegan or sensitive to dairy. Overall, the pastries alone make this place a must visit. The texture, flavor, and consistency are just excellent across the board. read more

THE BIG: Located in the Highland area of Central Austin and in the shopping center with 99 Ranch asian grocery store. Ambiance is your typical modern bakery with light and airy vibes but also a kind of sterile environment. Some seating but mainly it's a grab and go type place. Plenty of parking in the lot. THE BLACK AND WHITE: Definitely come here early because I hear once the pastries sell out, they are done for the day. We got the Ube Cream Cake 8" for our baby shower. It was a beautiful cake that alternated between the actual cake and ube potato mash, along with the ube cream. Ordering it to go was very easy and thankfully we did that because the line was long. was essentially in and out in 10 minutes. THE FINAL BAMBOO: The cake was around $40 and was delicious. I love 85°C Bakery for how affordable it is you can grab a good amount of bread without spending much. The selection is solid, and it's easy to find a few favorites each visit. I also enjoy their taro smoothie and strawberry mango smoothie. Flavor-wise they're good, but consistency can be hit or miss since they're not always blended well, and I sometimes end up with a lot of ice chunks. The egg tarts are one of my favorites, but I'm pretty frustrated that they now force you to buy them in packs of two instead of letting you buy just one. That decision honestly knocks a star down for me. Aside from that, it's a clean, organized bakery that gets very busy on weekends. Overall, still a great spot for affordable baked goods with plenty of options, just wish they'd bring back single egg tarts and improve smoothie consistency. read more

I'll start by saying Im an 85 degree stan! Ive been going to various locations in every city Ive lived in for the past decade and it never disappoints. The pastries are divine (I love the sweet ones but the jalepeno cream cheese one has my heart) and the cakes are lovely. I dont even like cherries but the black forrest cake is soooo good. My only gripes with this location are: 1. The parking sucks! This is obviously not their fault and in fact the parking is trash bc of how wonderful the entire plaza is! There is a Daiso, Sazan (delightful ramen), Ranch 99, and a variety of other shops so parking fills up fast 2. On the weekend, the lines get long and they might run out of your favorites. I always love coming here. All the baked goods I've tried are so delicious and always taste fresh. The service is very friendly and efficient. Lines are usually long, but you don't wait too long in line. I also love their drinks! There are plenty of choices for drinks, and it's cool that they have fall specials. I love 85! I recommend getting the savory bread. The brioche is soft, fluffy, with a hint of sweetness!!! I also ordered a few other items such as the matcha bread, and the sausage. It was really good too. I usually do not go for options with meat but I'm glad I gave it a try. This bakery is super affordable with prices ranging from $1.95+ the drinks are just as amazing!!! Lots of choices for the boba lovers. If you download the app and create an account you get a free drink :) and it will automatically show you which options you can choose from in the app. The larger cakes and sweeter desserts are VERY PRETTY but in my honest opinion bland and not worth the prices. The strawberry matcha here is the best matcha I've ever had. And I get matcha from everywhere. But this one? Hands down the best! And I can get it in oat milk too. The desserts to divine. Came back here on late Saturday afternoon/early evening. Around like 5:30 PM or so. It was pretty busy in there, the line was long, but they are pretty efficient. We went through and got three pastries, and by the time we hit the line, it was a bit shorter than when we first entered. I ordered a hot oolong, tea, and my husband ordered a regular hot milk tea. Both were delicious. The oolong almost has a type of woody flavor to it. I got a chocolate bun, and it was delicious! I do think maybe they should think about adding a little bit more seating if possible, to accommodate the amount of people that visit. This location specifically can get SOO busy especially on the weekend. Expect to wait in lines and for drinks. Parking in the crescent plaza can also be a nightmare, even though there is plenty, that just shows how busy this plaza gets. I will stand by this but they have THE BEST THAI TEA in town. I love that their drinks are not tooo sweet. I usually get 25% for my drinks anyway~ I do wish they kept selling their egg tarts as singles. I've been going to 85 degree bakery for years, since I first visited it in California. I didn't even realize we had one in Austin until a year or so after first trying it (since I live south, so I never pass this place - I have to go out of my way to visit). All this said -- while 85 degree is not the "best" bakery I've ever tried, they have some EXCELLENT staples that never fail to curb the sugar cravings! I really love their milk bread, taro bun, and brown sugar boba themed pastries, they're just so good! They have savory pastries too with meat and herbs which you could have for a meal if you wanted to. They also sell regular bread and whatnot, and of course since it's a cafe, they do have drinks - I had a fall latte several months ago when I went, and it was lovely! I do also recall having a lavender earl grey latte at some point and also really liking it. Since I haven't been for a few months now I don't know if this is still the case but: I've definitely gone before and it has been CRAZY busy with a super long line where I had to wait like 20-30 min to order. I don't think that's common, but it happens! The ambiance inside is fine, but there aren't a lot of tables/chairs so it's probably not the best place to hang out unless you're only trying to kill a short amount of time then go somewhere else (which would also be reasonable, since it's in a busy shopping center with lots of other fun things/restaurants). This place is truly a bakery/cafe heaven! The place is spacious and is split into two sides: the bakery and the cafe. There are so many pastry options that I was overwhelmed. Everything is made fresh that day and things go quick! The garlic cheese bread is amazing. The ube bread is pretty good. The chocolate croissant is also pretty good. We grab a bunch of other stuff that I don't even remember. I also had a Strawberry Matcha Latte with oat milk. It was amazing and well worth the wait. I've been going to 85°C Bakery for years but in the San Diego and Orange County locations in California. I'm happy to see another location here in Austin. They have a variety of fluffy, baked goods that are self-serve. My favorite is the ube bread and the egg custard tart. They also have beautiful cakes, fruit tarts, and custards in the refrigerated case. Also not too be missed are the variety of hot and cold coffee and tea beverages. My favorite is the iced matcha latte. You do have to get here early in the day if you want to get all your favorites otherwise it's slim pickings at the end of the day. My friend first introduced me to this spot because they were raving about the toast they pick up for breakfast. Their white chocolate toast reminds me of the Hawaiian Macadamia nut cookie but in bread form. I don't know how else to explain it but it was sweet and delightful. Today's experience I went in to get a Vietnamese coffee for energy (which activated the inner crackhead I needed to get through my PM meetings) and a brown sugar oat latte for my co worker which she immediately said "this taste incredible". So two thumbs up on the caffeinated beverages. I also tried the Hokkaido cream bun which was bold of me given I don't typically like filled items but it was sooo soft , the cream was light and not heavy like you'd imagine your typical filled donut. I greatly enjoyed my spontaneous sweet treat. I want to bring my co workers for our next group coffee run. I wish it was open earlier to swing in on my way into work. read more

Located in the Crescent shopping center 85C Bakery Café is easy to find with plenty of parking, although I suggest staying in the immediate area as just past the shopping center becomes sketchy. I really appreciate this area of town with the Asian influences to offset the Texas culture. I've been past and in this restaurant several times however when my kids came down we decided to give it a whirl. First off, the store is extremely clean with an open atmosphere allowing you to grab something and go. The employees are really nice and fast to wrap up an order. Please note there's a kiosk to craft your order if you want something warm such as pastries, coffee or teas. There's a nice little corner sit and enjoy your day however you wish while the far corner has a lot of food cases displaying their creations. I haven't sampled much but I will say I wish I lived closer as I would love to be a regular as I love small establishments over chains. My first sample was the Strawberry cream cake. The cake portion was perfectly cooked, not dry and able to hold the double cream without getting soggy while the berries added a nice pop of freshness. The Boba milk tea was a perfect blend of black tea notes complimented by non-dairy creamer. That and I found myself "playing with my food" often fishing out the boba balls and eating them. I suppose I'm a child at heart. 85C Bakery Café is a great little shop, offering up a broader and more refined experience over some of those "faster" corporate alternatives. The prices are on point and the experience is laid back in a sort of fusion of Asian and French bistro mishmash. I apologize for not having tried more for this review however I like in Kyle so it's a once a year thing thus I'm knocking off other bucket list destinations in the immediate vicinity. To get pastries: you'd start off at the beginning of the line, grab a white tray, and go through the line to grab your preferred pastries! Cakes are at the front near the register (the mango crème brûlée cake is super yummy & not too sweet!) If you want drinks, you'd order and pickup at the register area as well. My favorite pastry is the milk pudding bread, and for valentine's season the custard design was in the shape of a heart...too cute!! Omg best egg tarts I've ever had. So light and creamy/fluffy with an incredibly buttery flaky crust and delicious taste. Wow. I can't wait to try other offerings. Update: I went back the next day and can now vouch for their incredible brioche (light and fluffy, with sweet crispy topping), berry tart (the filling's flavor resembles blueberry cheesecake but with a more solid pastry texture), and mochi egg tart (like the egg tart but filled with Mochi???!! And with an additional brown sugar twist). We also tried the mini lemon cakes, the mango bun, and the cocoa bun. All we're good, but the above items were the star in my opinion. read more

One of my favorite pastry shops EVER!! We were in the area and just had to stop in. Every location we've been to has been phenomenal and this one was no exception. It was packed when we went and we had to wait a little bit for our drink, but the self-serve pastry stations were all stocked, the restaurant was pretty clean and not too noisy, and it was well worth the wait. The cashier was super quick handling our order, was very sweet, and didn't look fazed at all by how many people were there. He definitely deserves a raise. It was 'strawberry season' at 85 Degrees so we ordered a Strawberry Matcha Latte made with fresh puréed strawberries and high grade matcha. The drink came out in beautiful red, white, and green layers, and it was a shame to have to mix them together, but it tasted absolutely delicious. The strawberry pieces weren't too big as to get stuck in the straw and the matcha was smooth and rich. The flavors paired and complimented each other beautifully. We also added the Strawberry Danishes to our basket as well and they were absolutely phenomenal. The sweet pastry was flaky and had the perfect level of savory to balance out the sweetness of the cream. The cream was super fluffy and cloudy, the strawberries were ripe and lightly covered in a sweet glaze, and everything was dusted in powdered sugar. Strawberry season tasted heavenly. Alongside the strawberry themed treats, we also left with five phenomenal pastries. The Red Bean Bread, Matcha Bun, and Hokkaido Custard Bun were all made with a deliciously sweet and super soft bread and were each filled with fantastic flavors. The Red Bean Bun was filed with a sweet red bean paste and was topped with a light glaze and a sprinkling of savory sesame seeds. The Matcha Bun was filled with a matcha custard that was a perfect balance of a slightly more bitter matcha and subtle sweet cream, and was dusted with a heavier layer of matcha and a lighter layer of powdered sugar. Lastly, the Hokkaido Custard Bun, one of my favorites treats on the menu, was filled with a thin layer of custard that balanced out the sweetness of the cloudy whipped cream filling the center. It had a light dusting of powdered sugar on top, and the entire pastry was so sweet and soft and incredibly delicious. The other two slightly denser pastries were the Chocolate Chip Bowl and Premium Milk. The Premium Milk was made with a thicker, glazed sweet bread filled with rich and buttery white chocolate chunks and a thin layer of creamy custard in the center. The Chocolate Chip Bowl was the densest pastry we purchased, almost the consistency of a freshly baked bagel but far softer, and was easily the least sweet of them all. The bread was still by all means sweet and the multitude of chocolate chips scattered throughout this bread were semi sweet, pairing fantastically with the powdered sugar topped bread. I could go on and on about 85 Degrees Bakery and how fantastic it is, but I urge you to go try this bakery out yourself. It's very easy to get a sugar overload from all of the sweet pastries and cakes, so I'd highly recommend picking up a savory item or a tea or both to balance out all of the sugar. One of the best things about this place is that it's super cheap but high quality food and drink so you can leave with a lot without breaking the bank. This bakery is a MUST!! read more
