I noticed the Tous Les Jours bakery when I was at Walgreens across the parking lot on Lamar Blvd. They also have a Tous Les Jours at Hmart, which is always crazy busy. I been wanting to try this bakery but the lines at the HMart location are always super long. I popped by yesterday to try their treats. Tous Les Jours is a bakery that combines French pastry techniques and Asian flavor profiles. Visually the pastries look French and draw you in as they are aesthetically beautiful. However, Asian pastries tend to be less sweet, which was the case with Tous Les Jours. The bakery had a number of sweet treats...croissants (sweet and savory), cakes, bread, to name a few. When I walked in the fresh baked pastries and bread smells filled your nostrils with a refreshing aroma. There is a small space inside for seating. There are tables and chairs outside, not fully setup, so I am not sure they were associated with Tous Les Jours. I purchased a croissant with a sausage inside. This Tous Les Jours location on North Lamar is a cozy, small bakery that manages to pack in a surprisingly large variety of offerings. Originating in South Korea back in 1997, the brand was built on blending classic French baking techniques with traditional Asian ingredients. Because of this unique history, they carry an amazing, large selection of Asian baked goods alongside standard cafe pastries. We always leave with a full box, but we absolutely love the orange cream cake, the blueberry cream cheese bread, and the custard buns, among so many others. Didn't even realize this location was here...on the way to thrift my daughter seen it so we decided to stop in. I still love the one in Memphis as my favorite (I'm bias lol) but this one is nice. I only didn't like how everything was prepackaged because it's a waste if people are going to eat in the store. Ours back home everything is set out and still covered and in disposable containers but they only package if she choose to take it with you. We got the strawberry cake slice and cheesecake from Tous Les Jours. We were not a fan of both. The cheesecake for some odd reason was very sour and not sweet. The shop is very clean and well kept. I visited in the early afternoon, so there was still a lot of inventory. I selected a lot of items but I made the mistake of not taking many pictures. I had: -the strawberry soft bread- it was really delicious! -the blueberry cream cheese bread. It was good but not great. The bread was pretty firm/ tough so it was more work to bite through than expected. -The chocolate cream doughnut. It was very underwhelming. With the other location in town, I assumed goodies would still be left in the afternoon....nope. Y'all gotta come early to get dibs on stuff. I came around 2:30pm and there was a line to check out. The red bean bread I love was sold out however we bought the last two red bean donuts. While we didn't get our usuals we did try some new sweets like the chestnut bread. It was soft, fluffy and had real chestnuts in it. Yum! My little one approved the bulgogi sausage rolls. The parking lot was pretty packed. I drove around twice to get a spot. My three favorite Tous Les Jours items are the sweet rice donut (NOT the red bean donut dusted in sugar), the Portuguese egg tart, and the garlic crusts, and this location seems to have either the donut or crusts more reliably than the H-Mart location. The sweet rice donut (which contains delicious red bean paste :p) are not as sweet as other red bean breads, and nothing at all like American donuts. It's way easier to turn into and get out of this place than the main Asian food-hub down the street. ;) Lots of options, good prices. There's cream or cheese in a lot of their things, and I'm only willing to take so much risk with my GI track; but, I still always look around to check for new and seasonal things. When we went to order the person behind the counter was friendly and patient as we took a while to decide what we wanted. I wasn't sure what to get so I went with a slice of lemon cake. My husband ordered a piece of the Cloud Piece Cake. The lemon cake was okay. It was one slice of a cake with a hint of lemon flavor and a hint of sweet from the white frosting on top. You simply grab a tray and some tongs and walk around the store self-selecting your items. At the counter, you can add the cold items/drinks to your order and sit at one of the tables to eat. We came in trying to cut thru the parking lot and deceided to stop in. It was our first time even though we lived in this neighborhood about 12 years ago. When you walk in it smells like bread. They bake everything everyday and when they are out of something it is out. My daughter wanted to try the morning bread but apparently we took too long and it was snatched up. I ended up getting the Spinach Feta Danish which was good. It was the perfect blend of spinach and danish. I didn't think it would mesh but it did. I also got the Caramel Apple Pie which I eat later. My daughter got the Foliage Sausage Bread which she loved. It was soft enough that it didn't mess with her braces and she said it felt she was in another country. She also got the Vanilla Cream Doughnut which she had immediately after the sausage bread and she loved it. I tried it and it was better than any doughnut I have had. I also got the Honey Lavender Matcha Latte and I will say I have tried matcha at a couple places trying to figure it out. I think I found the one I like. It does pick up bc as soon as we got ours the place started picking up. They have tons of seating inside and outside. They offer free wifi but I had no need for it. They have signs advising to that since it is so fresh to eat same day or within a day. I can honestly say that this would be a hike from S Austin that I am willing to take. Growing up in Dallas, I've had my fair share of Tous Les Jours visits whenever we would come by Asian supermarkets. It was always a treat to look forward to. Therefore, this franchise will always have a beloved place in my heart. That being said, this is probably by far the best TLJ location I've enjoyed going to. Because of COVID-19, the tables and chairs inside are now gone. The workers were super nice throughout our visit. We just couldn't make up our minds, so we kept going in circles eyeing the wide array of choices. Thankfully the workers had great recommendations! They do serve drinks here, but they're best known for their bakery items. One of my go to bakeries in Austin. In recent years, I really grew out of sweet things and I became really picky with the types of cakes and pastries I get. One of my favorite things about Tous Les Jours is that its always hits the right balance with the sweetness. My family and I pretty much always get their fruit cakes for our birthdays and we LOVE their buttercream loaves. They do a phenomenal job in delivering delicious desserts and maintaining just the right balance across the board with sweetness, texture, fluffiness of the bread, etc,. I also really enjoy their drinks as well. If you are up to try to things and enjoy something with a bit of carbonation - highly highly recommend their Strawberry Ade. It might give you a good burp afterwards but it's so refreshing on a sunny day. I also really love their Caramel Macchiatos! Their milk teas are pretty good but I'm not a super big fan of the tapiocas itself.
