    Espresso and almond croissant
    Julia P.

Found this place while searching for birthday cakes for my sister, we got the berry vanilla bliss- so good! The cake melted in your mouth. While I was here I also got the almond croissant and an espresso. Melted in your mouth delicious. The employees are so sweet, the service was incredible. Such a relaxing spot to enjoy a coffee and dessert

Nice spot near campus with a chef/owner trained in French pastries. Nice to have parking right in front of the store. Opened a few weeks ago.

    YUM!!!

Extremely friendly customer service!!! I ordered a flan over the phone for my brother and the girl answering said they'd have to check because they don't make flan much anymore. She came back and said we can do it! I was so grateful. Then when I came in to pick it up, the gorgeous girl at the counter was so sweet. The flan of course was amazing, my brothers favorite dessert growing up was flan and I wanted to surprise him for his birthday. Thank you so much to the team that made it happen!!! We will be back!

Had an absolutely great experience working with Stephanie! The mini cupcakes came out BEAUTIFUL! And not only that, but the flavor is amazing. They were able to execute on the birds of paradise & blue rose flowers I requested to the tee! I recommend this shop and would definitely come back when in Austin! Much recommended. Thank you!

Stephanie made the most amazing cake for my friend's birthday. He's a big fan of Snoop Dogg and she designed a cake that looked just like him and tasted incredible!

I'm surprised the owner serves old pastries. A deal breaker for me is being served ice cold old pastries. The pistachio latte was lukewarm. Also ordered the fruit mousse- chocolate hazelnut crunch and pistachio cherry christmas tree. Both ice cold as well, taste was okay, not great. Not worth the $14.99 each price. I've been to other pastry shops in the area and most serve fresh pastries and I have visited pastry shops in Europe (Paris, Rome, London, Florence, Geneva to name a few) so I can spot fresh and tasty pastries. Not coming back and will not recommend.

Upper Crust Bakery is my "go to" bakery when I am hosting a party that has associated dessert. My favorite cakes at Upper Crust is the Chocolate Italian Cream and the Gato Marissa cakes. They also have an assortment of cookies, pastries, muffins and other sweet treats. It is not unusual to find a line to get to your heavenly pastries and coffee, however, the line goes rather quickly. Many customers are at the bakery only for pickup...revolving pickup counter. Others linger in the bakery enjoying their bakery treats. They also serve soup, sandwiches and quiche as well. I had just read on Reddit a couple days prior that this was recommended as an alternative to another Austin bakery. When I walked in I was surprised to find many older individuals sitting and chatting, so I thought there might be some kind of event. But it's probably just the demographics of the neighborhood! Based on the decor I can tell they're not trying to be a "trendy" bakery and remain true to their identity as a neighborhood business. They still had a good number of pastries available but I did get the last strawberry danish of the day (pictured). I also got the almond croissant. Their pre-made bread loaves all looked appetizing as well. I thought both pastries had good texture but could have used more filling/flavoring.

OMG...their desserts are enough to cause a sane person some degree of cognitive dissonance! Decisions, decisions, decisions, etc. During my visit, I observed a wide variety of baked goods; specifically, the chocolate chip and salty oat cookies are particularly popular. Although I typically prefer cookies with nuts, I purchased several sugar cookies in unique shapes and colors for the hubs, who is the resident "cookie monster". I also selected a piece of key lime pie for myself, following my dessert ritual of consuming it over three days. Quack's serves as a neighborhood gathering spot, with a relaxed atmosphere that attracts regular customers, students, and groups of friends. The bakery was inviting, and embodies the qualities expected from a local neighborhood bakery. While I went to the bakery just to look around, I got sucked in their bakery vortex...in a very good way.

I've driven by this place 100's of times and today I to finally decided to stop by and try it! The parking lot was empty but it was 3:00pm on a Thursday so it made sense. I give it one star for the amazing gall to offer this offal up as French food! And for rolling their eyes, and their practiced Gallic condescension. Austin used to have a couple of decent French restaurant/bistros: Chez Nous was run by people from Marseilles, and Chamonix, and other parts of France. It didn't compare to French restaurants in France, but it was a decent value, and it was way better than nothing. Fabi & Rosi was probably more German than French, but with a good Euro mentality. Both Fabi & Rosi and Chez Nous died in the Covid plague. The best French resto in Austin by far was Aquarelle, which when it opened had a skilled chef in the kitchen from Aix-en-Provence. Austin probably wasn't ready for real French food at the time, and it quietly folded a few years ago. That brings us to Justine's: when it opened ca. 2009, it was a good value. The escargots were good, the onion soup was good, they served Delice de Bourgogne cheese, and the bread was good enough to mop up the garlic butter sauce. The other offerings were always meh, and the place was loud enough to remove the enamel from your teeth. I had skipped it for a few years until I got back from a trip to France, and wanted a nice French dinner. So I chose to return to Justine's. The crime and the pity of this place is that it is owned and operated by French people, and they know real French food, and they are deliberately abusing the public with their food, service, and prices. Americans generally associate French dining with arrogance, condescension. and laughable price points: if that's your expectation, then Welcome To Justine's! We ordered the radishes served with butter as an appetizer, which was not served with bread--which is sort of the whole point of eating radishes and butter. When we pointed this out, they charged us $5.00 for a half-baguette of bread to go with. Their bread! Their bread! Oo-la-la! Every French or Italian person knows that bread is firm and crusty on the outside and pillowy and delectable on the inside. What we got was the usual squishy, spongy stuff they sell at Walmart (not to cast aspersions on Walmart). THESE PEOPLE KNOW BETTER than to serve bread like this, and at this price! The rest of the meal was downhill--and EXPENSIVE, laughably overpriced, like the stereotypical snotty French dining experience. Before you eat here, do yourself the favor of reading the plethora of one-star reviews before submitting your own. And while we're here, the local food critics LOVE this place--has anybody writing these reviews ever been to France? Or Quebec? So many good restos in Austin have died, ill-served and neglected by the local 'food experts'. Let the buyer....wait: QUE L'ACHETEUR SOIT PRUDENT! THAT'S as close to France as you'll get with THIS joint.
