I have been a long time fan of quacks but haven't been in quite sometime. Yesterday we were in the area so decided to stop. My absolute favorite item is the jalapeno cream cheese croissants, they were sold out which was a bummer. The lady at the register was either having. a bad day or just had poor customer service- she didn't greet anyone and was very unenthusiastic about questions I or any of the others had. - that's usually not the case here so we will say it was a one off. We decided to get a blueberry danish- it was great. I tried to order a cake. I was told I could only choose what was in the case. The cake was supposed to be for three days away. Who knows how long those cakes have been in the case and the pickings were slim. So I guess if you wanna order a cake from here playing well ahead and he might just ask when it will be made in relationship the delivery date that you wish to have it. Short and sweet review, but had a great experience visiting Quack's 43rd Street Bakery for the first time! We picked up cupcakes back in June for Father's Day, and really loved each of the flavors we picked! We searched Yelp for a nearby bakery and were happy to find this spot. Also loved that they were playing Metallica inside and it was pretty quirky. All of the baked goods looked delicious, and we almost got some danishes and other pastries too. We decided on 6 cupcakes to have as treats after dinner, and they were a hit! They even have a variety of vegan desserts. Front row free parking was super easy and convenient. ATTENTION TO DETAIL. Ordered 5 items and 2 of them were wrong. Ordered a blueberry danish they gave a scone. Which the scone was extremely dry and ended up in the trash. Ordered a pink cookie for the kid they gave a purple cookie. Which we caught before we left. The salty oatmeal cookie had ok flavor but also over baked and dry. It seems pretty easy to get the order right when you're focused on the job. You're bagging it as we're ordering. But I guess you have to babysit and make sure you take every item out the bag and check before you leave. I assumed since we pointed at the items and said then it was understood what we wanted. A simple, no frills bakery close to UT with vegan options too! I went for a simple vanilla funfetti, and the "mini" was the perfect size. The next size up is definitely for someone who has a huge sweet tooth or great portion control and is able to save half for later! I'm not sure I found the "eat your feelings" cake to be humorous, even though I'm sure the intent was harmless. Turning to food to modulate one's feelings can be a triggering experience for some, so I think that's why I didn't find the name to be all that funny. Quack's is a great local bakery with plenty of options for every type of sweet tooth. Nevertheless, I come here for one thing and one thing only: a slice of carrot cake. Carrot cake is by far my go-to for an after-dinner sweet treat, and they do a nice job with it here. Once every other month, my boyfriend and I drive over to Quack's after dinner to grab a slice of carrot cake for me and a cookie or two for him. At night, they run BOGO deals on specific items, which is always a plus. Parking is easy in the free and open spaces in front of the bakery. A few spots right in front are accessible, too. They have one or two tables outside, as well, in case you want to eat your treat right then and there. The only downside to Quack's is the look of the inside. It looks a bit run-down and in desperate need of a makeover. Looks like it hasn't been touched in decades. This doesn't take away from the quality of the food itself, but it is certainly something that has caught my eye. Randomly, the last 4 times I've been here, there is always an unhoused man laying on the ground in front of the doors charging his phone in an outdoor outlet. Nothing wrong with charging your phone, of course, but I've almost tripped on him several time. read more

It's a cute spot to grab a coffee in the Mueller area. No complaints about my iced chai latte with oat milk. Their baked goods looked good -- but it'd be nice if there were maybe an option or two of gluten-free and vegan offerings. I really like Quacks, their almond croissant is one of my favs in town! However, I time and time again get bad- like really really bad matcha lattes. They don't seem to have anything to properly whisk them, majority of the time the color isn't even green because the matcha powder doesn't get mixed in and just sits at the bottom. I release a heavy sigh as I write this review. It's been almost 10 years since I've been here, about the time I've spent in upstate NY, and unfortunately as I noticed in Austin, many things have changed. The location of this bakery has not, but the quality definitely has. Not sure if it is due to new ownership, or commercialization, as they now have multiple locations, but I remember this quaint little place in Hyde Park as the place to go to for the most decadent, tasty, rich, scrumptious baked goods in "all" of Austin. The wife and I were excited to go back, since we have some friends in town, and were all craving some baked goodies for the 4th of July. We bragged about this place, especially the Czechoslovakian cookies, and out of this world chocolate cakes. When I arrived, I noticed a change. The small sitting area was closed and they had half the products than last time I was here. There wasn't a lot of chocolate cake options, and the ones they had were all vegan. I was glad to see they still had the Czech cookies. I ordered a dozen like I always did before, because they were out of this world. I have Czech blood, so it knows a good Czech cookie. Unfortunately, something changed. Got home and the wife and few others dug into the cookies. The look on all our faces, was like, "Oh, that's... Uh, Ok." And that is about it. The cookie was bigger than I remember, but much dryer and less tasty. Not sure what changed. I sense they used to use butter when making these, which always makes pastries the best. Not sure if they are substituting oil, but these are not the cookies I remember. Next was the chocolate croissant. I had to double take, as it looked just like a big croissant. In general you can see the chocolate coming out of the edge of the croissants. I'm not a big fan of these, but my wife is. Imagine the disappointment when she bit into it and no chocolate. She opened the middle and voila!... couple pieces of chocolate chips (SEE PHOTO). Talk about 2nd disappointment. The other items we ordered, cheese cake filled pumpkin muffin, coconut macaroons, blueberry scone, and pull apart cinnamon muffin, all carried the same theme, dry, bland, and lacking taste. I'm being nice giving it 3 stars. 10 years ago it would have been 5. I was thinking of 2 stars, but the memory of this place gives it one more. It is pretty sad when the local grocery stores have tastier pastries than this place and much cheaper. It used to be the opposite, but no more. Note, with the pictures, don't let them fool you. All the baked goods seemed bigger than the last time I was here. But as they say in Texas, everything is bigger, but not necessarily better. read more

This place was alright, I ordered a key lime pie slice and hot latte, they were both mediocre at best. The key lime has a strong lime flavor which I really like, a big con is that it's so sweet, especially the crust where I can taste the sugar granules in there. My teeth were hurting after I ate a few spoons, to be fair my teeth are sensitive but those are very very sweet. The latte was good.. it was okay. I ordered a decaf so I think it might taste less flavorful, but to find out on google that it should taste the same so I am just disappointed. It's convenient for me to drop by so I might visit here and there but won't frequent this place unfortunately. Staffs were very friendly and helpful though. read more

Although it looks like the tiramisu has been sitting out for a while, it's pretty good! I think the moisture makes the cake look a bit soggy, but still tastes good. We each ordered a dessert and sat outside to eat it since it was later in the evening and the weather was nice. You can browse the desserts and then place your order at the register. Even toward the end of the day, they had a good variety of items to choose from: cupcakes, pies, cakes, cookies, and then of course their drink menu. Ratings: - Chocolate cream pie (3/5): This would get a higher rating if the pie crust wasn't so rock hard. The filling was standard and good, but the crust was impossible to cut through (with the plastic knife/fork) and even eating the pie slice like a pizza and biting into it, the crust was pretty hard. Not sure if it was just a bad batch or from sitting in the cooler case all day (we did come toward the end of the day!), but it would have been much more pleasant to consume with a softer crust. - Vegan chocolate ganache cake (2/5): None of us are vegan but we have it a try because it looked very chocolatey and rich. It was pretty dry and disappointing, though. The cake was nothing special. The ganache was alright. Would not get again. Overall, it's a cute bakery, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back. Stopped by after seeing the thousands of reviews on Google it was pretty good. They had a bogo offer on baked goods so we got two sticky buns which after taking home and microwaving tasted much better. Worth mentioning they had a microwave on site too. I got a decent iced latte and a delicious mango coconut cheesecake which was light and refreshing. My friend got two brownies (double chocolate and salted caramel) which she said tasted burnt. There wasn't any indoor seating though like some other photos show so we sat out in the sun for a bit. Parking wasn't hard to find. read more

My mom and I randomly found this excellent bakery while discovering Austin. Their goods are incredibly fresh and they give old fashioned attention with each pastry item. They sell classic and modern items. Usually, everything is planned with a trip however we were trying to find a part of the riverfront that my brother mentioned was a good place to walk. The gps kept turning us around. Finally we stopped at a small grocery across the street for refreshment and saw this place and wandered in. I couldn't decide what I wanted. Everything looked so good. Finally, we settled on a sticky bun and a cheese Danish. The cheese Danish was soft, fluffy and had plenty of fresh cheese filling. Let me tell you, if I lived here, I would be stopping in regularly. They had a huge assortment of cookies. I was tempted to buy the Czech tea cookiea as they are a favorite of mine. We looked at everything and vowed to come back next time we are in the area. My favorite memory of this store was seeing a young boy pull up on his bicycle. He looked tired and hot. School had probably just let out. You could see his focus and determination in getting a snack before heading home. He opened the door and went right up to the counter where his favorite item was. We were on our way back to the car but we talked about how nice it was that Quack's serves the downtown neighborhood. read more

I read about this place awhile ago, but then forgot about due to being busy. Went to Hyde Park Bar and Grill for lunch and was craving pie. Their coconut cream pie has huge flakes of coconut and lots of cream on top of the filling. It fulfilled my need for something fluffy. Next time I'll try something new because everything looked decadent. Imagine cookies the size of small saucers, and small cakes and other tempting desserts.
