When I walked out of a BBQ restaurant, I saw a sign that stated Bella Vita Ice Cream with a left arrow. It must have been a sign from the ice cream gods. So, I headed that way to check out the ice cream. I was warmly greeted by Deanna, the owner. Some signage stated it was the best ice cream in Austin. When I inquired how that honor was determined and she shared some documentation supporting the assertion. So, then I sampled some gelato (yes, they give samples!). I settled on the pistachio and mango gelato. Both had strong flavoring and were enjoyable to eat. Deanna said she and her team makes her ice cream and gelato in-house with fresh ingredients. One downside was that the gelato melted quickly as soon as I walked outside in the sun. Service was friendly, and overall it's a solid spot to bring your kids while having a day out. I'd say that outside of the niche of being good for kids, it may not be contender as a general go-to boba spot. The pricing is on the higher end at around $10 for a standard boba, and the details of the drink didn't really match other places that charge that price point. I'd recommend using a different oat milk as a dairy-free option as well. Kirkland brand is very watery and not generally used as a creamer, and is diluted further when used in tea, making paying an upcharge for it feel not really worth it. read more

After tasting a few new-to-me flavors (mamey, something else starting with an "h"), I went with a cup of rose petal and pistachio ice creams. They were both delicious. My date went with traditional milk tea with boba, specifying his preferred 25% sugar, and the tea came out perfectly, not too sweet, and with plenty of chewy bubbles. Outside, they have cute little kid playstations that give it a fun, family-friendly vibe, and inside, the shop is decorated so bright and cheerful with colorful murals and tons of Squishmallows. It really feels like the perfect ice cream parlor! There are two large coolers packed with tons of different ice cream flavors. I usually feel a little guilty asking to sample a bunch, but the employee was so welcoming and actually encouraged us to try as many as we wanted. We ended up choosing a 2 scoop cup with the coconut and piña colada flavors, and both were absolutely amazing. I don't even know how to fully explain how creamy and delicious the ice cream was, you can tell it's handmade with real ingredients, and of note: the ice creams weren't overly sweet, which I loved. Besides ice cream, they also offer shakes, boba, mangonadas, and coffee; and I'm so excited to come back and try more from the menu! Another great thing is they have a rewards card, where after so many visits you get a free item, which just makes me want to come back even more.
