I really enjoy this location because unlike the Bellaire location, there's hardly ever a line! I love it! Located in the Ranch 99 parking lot on the corner plaza off of i10, they opened after a few months of their Bellaire counterparts. Their iced sea salt caramel coffee is so addicting and even their iced sea salt Jasmine tea is clutch for those that can't drink coffee! Their pastries are so well balanced. The Milk bun isn't too sweet and has the softness of clouds. Their egg tarts offers a richness that makes the wealthy man feel poor. This location isn't as big as the Bellaire one and its selection seems less diverse, but since I haven't tried a majority of their items yet, I didnt mind. Fyi, they discontinued the taro snow cake, which I was hoping to try today. However, I did have the sea salt coffee cake, another one on my bucket list. It reminded me of a tiramisu in disguise. If you like coffee, you might want to give it a try. All the layers blend nicely together - smooth, light, and overall well balance flavors. Where do I even start... I could start by singing "Do you know the muffin man?" as my introduction, but I feel like I should start by saying, "Do you know the Brioche Bread?" becasue the Brioche bread has changed my perspective on bakery/pastries/baked goods. I remember when the original place opened in Chinatown on Bellaire Blvd., and the lines were extremely long, out the door, around the corner and down the street. I kept asking myself "is this place really good, or is this another place on the band wagon?" But this place is not a bandwagoner like other places, this place serves up some authentic, great tasting bakery goods! Some items that I have had before are the Brioche Bread (my favorite), egg pudding bread, Mango bread, and the sponge cake (awwww man, so good...) I haven't had much of the drinks, but I'm pretty sure it's decent. This location is very close to my church, and perfectly located in the 99 Ranch Market marketplace. The service has always been pleasant and if you have any questions they're more than happy to help. Wow! I've been to the Bellaire location about 3 times and never was a big fan of it. I never went during it's long line out the door phase, but each time I went, it was pretty packed and none of the products I tasted really stuck out to me. I came to this location randomly, on my way to an appointment. I remembered seeing they had coffee, so thought I'd check it out. There was one other person shopping inside and it was so nice! I ordered a sea salt caramel iced coffee & a choco bun. Both amazing! I didn't have high expectations the iced coffee, but it was SO good. It was gone in like 3 minutes (not really). The choco bun was like nothing I've ever had - it was bread, but with chocolate incorporated. I wish I would've gotten more. It was next to their squid bun - I may try that next. This location is super small compared the Bellaire location, but I definitely recommend this one! (during off peak hours). They're in the same lot as Ranch 99 and it can get pretty crowded. read more

I'm calling out this bakery right now for some BS regarding the restrooms here. For AT LEAST a month now, there has been a sign on the bathroom door which says the toilets are out of order and to not use them. Two possibilities: A) The sign is telling a lie and the business is being shady to avoid needing to regularly clean the bathrooms. B) The sign is telling the truth, which means it is operating with no bathrooms inside for use by the public or the employees- WHICH IS IN DIRECT VIOLATION of The Restroom Access Act and Houston Building Code. Of the two evils, I guess the first possibility is better, which pisses me off more than anything. I hope the bakery gets its act together before anything major escalates. read more

I came here on a Sunday morning and it wasn't too busy. Compared to the one in Chinatown, which I've also been to, this is a much smaller location. Even on Sunday morning though, I feel like they didn't have much bread in stock, so that was surprising. The cashier was nice though. The only thing I don't like about this cafe is that when they bag your bread, the bag doesn't have any seals, so it's essentially just an open bag of the bread you bought that's somewhat folded to try to seal. Not sure if this is typical, but just seems weird. I would rather have my bread sealed. Of the four breads I got, I like the chocolate chip cake bread the best. My aunt wanted to visit Houston for her birthday week. This was one of the places she wanted to see while in town. This is a new bakery with lots of different pasties, breads and more available. I have to say I love this little bakery. We need one in San Antonio. We tired different breads but my families favorite was the black bread with squid ink. My family raved the flavor. It may not look like the tastiest bread but it is packed with flavor. The staff is helpful and courteous. They also offer a military discount at this location. I would visit this place again even if I have to drive over two hours to get here. I first visited the location on Bellaire and after a night trip to H Mart, I decided to stop by a little over an hour before they close on a Monday night to check it out. My fingers were crossed that there would be something left even though they still had a substantial amount of time until they would be off for the day. The place is smaller. There were a few items left, which was somewhat expected, but my main issue was most of the self-help items weren't really labeled. YOU'RE STILL OPEN; get your act together. As it were, I was already there so I decided to try to look and see if I wanted anything. I ended up getting a taro danish, a chocolate chiffon cake, and a slice of the Taro Snow. There seemed to be one employee that I could see and he was fairly chipper once you got to the cashier. Other than that, I'm not sure if it's because it was later on in the evening but I felt less welcomed here than at the other location. Had the danish 10 minutes later; obviously not fresh but still good. --- UPDATE 2/2018 --- I've since come here a few more times on various week nights. They've been more well stocked (one night, they still had fresh bread coming out!) BUT nothing is properly labeled. Well, at least they have more items to choose from. Can't ask for too much... but it would be useful for those with food allergies. I also fell in love with their sea salt cream mountain green tea. I was so excited to come to this location since this location is a few minutes closer to me than Bellaire. I drove from from The Woodlands today (9/4/17) thinking I was going to be able to buy everything that I just bought from the Bellaire location a week ago. My family and I wanted a few loaves of Brioche specifically. When we got there the note on the door said there was no A/C which was ok but when we walked in to our surprise it was considerably smaller than the Bellaire location. As I got my tray I notice there was not much pastries next to the trays so then as I started looking around there wasn't much of any thing left. One of our favorites is the Garlic Cheese and there was only 2 left in the case (which we bought) and 2 egg tarts left. The other cases had a limited amount which made the line move slow because people were waiting for the pastries to be refilled. As I got to the end of choosing of all the pastries I did not see the Brioche anywhere so I ask one of the employees that was refilling the cases and she went to the back to ask if there was more. After waiting in a HOT store for a few minutes she comes back and said "we are completely out and they are not going to bake anymore today." That was very upsetting since we drove a ways to get there. When I go to the front of the line to pay I asked for 4 of the Sea Salt Coffees that were on special and the cashier said we don't have this special it must be only at the Bellaire location. I actually called about 11am today to make sure they offered this special because I was referred that the Sea Salt was very good and the person over the phone said yet we do. Once again I'm upset not only that they didn't have a stock of the pastries that we wanted but that the employees did know the promotion and I was misinformed over the phone. I was very excited to see this franchise here in Houston because we always go to the one in Cerritos, CA every time we visit there. I will NEVER go to this location again. We got: Taro snow cake Mango creme brûlée Slice of cheesecake Pineapple cake White chocolate strawberry cup Rose milk tea The taro cake didn't taste like taro, it actually didn't have any flavor, it was more like an invisible cake. The mango creme brûlée and cheesecake were good but not great. Pineapple cake was too hard for my taste. The strawberry cup was pretty good and fluffy My favorite thing was the rose milk tea. When I came in to grab a few things for my family, most of the items were out of stock which I grabbed some new items to try. Asked one of the workers if there would be any more pastries made soon, but replied that some things will take about 30 minutes to prepare. I found that a little disappointing, but provided that one of the main things I came for was the ham and cheese bread for something savory. They were made just as good as other locations which was a plus. I also came for some Taro danishes for something sweet, but were limited on supply. Today was their grand opening! This is the second Houston location and is much smaller then the location in Bellaire. Bakery Goods: 5 The breads are all up to the usual standard of 85C! It's hard to resists them and the store smells heavenly when they take out a new batch of breads! Service: 4 Due to the hype, the bread are flying off the selves like crazy! However, this guarantees that fresh bread will always be baking so I guess that's the silver lining. New breads come out around every 10-20 mins. I am not sure if this will change but the servers allowed you to grab breads off the cooling racks which guarantees that their freshness. I am taking 1 star off because they are a less efficient then the Bellaire location so it takes a long time to check out. Also, they safe is very new so they don't know much about the varieties of breads. For example, earlier this week they told a customer that they wouldn't have brioche breads but today the severs said that it'll be ready in two hours. These inconsistencies is why I'm taking away one star. read more

Since moving to Houston this year, I've been craving all its goodies so when I found out they were opening, I was a fat kid excited to go to the candy store once again. They opened two locations and the one in Bellaire always has a longer line than this one. I stumbled upon this place without knowing it was here until I drove by. Boy am I glad I don't pay attention when I drive or else I would have seen it. I mean... anyways, moving on. I was nervous about a new location just because sometimes the quality isn't met just yet because of inexperience. However, this place tastes heavenly. Everything was fluffy as it's supposed to be and I love how excited the workers are. Some places when fresh bread comes out, they don't scream it like they used to. This place does! It makes me want to buy more. Imma get fatter... If it's your first time, the must-tries are taro marble, berrytale, cinnamon twist, and coffee bread. They also sell cakes and drinks there as well. This is a typical Taiwanese bakery. I have only had the breads. There isn't as much variety as the other bakeries but I like that the location is not in Chinatown and closer to me. Like the option of not having to drive across town. I been here twice on a Sunday. Today and a Sunday a few weeks after the hurricane and have avoided much of a line so I can't speak to the crowds. I don't like that they just put the variety of savory breads in the case anywhere like the milk buns there were 2 trays and they were not next to each other but one in each case on different rows. Maybe that doesn't bother anyone else so I didn't take a star off. I removed a star because it doesn't have as much variety as the other bakery locations but I do like that each location bakes the treats in house vs a commissary/commercial kitchen and delivered. They didn't have many selections as the bellaire location, but they have the brioche that my wife loves which always tends to run out at the other location. Though the facility seems a little dirtier, they seem to be under staffed. None the less the cashier was very nice. The brioche is a veryyyy fluffy bread that is light and always soft. Franchise owner, I know you live in Dallas and Houston is the outpost. Your Houston manager needs to step up the game hiring staff who wants to work. I have been to ALL your locations between Dallas and Houston because of my work. Huge work ethic difference between Carrollton location and this one on Blalock. "Open at 7am" means stocked with food and ready to sell. Not start baking at 7am with empty shelves. And all the staff mingle and chat at counter about their weekend. The quality and type of staff you hire in this location is obviously very different (lazy) from even the Bellaire shop (which is not that great to begin with compared to Carrollton or Plano) Opening up opportunities for more competition to enter the market, that's for sure. read more
