    French 75

Loved loved this speakeasy. So cute and private. Reservations needed and highly recommended you need a code to get it. Loved it. I loved the service. We didn't try any food but the drinks were amazing. I tried their French 75, and I loved them.

We had a ton of fun dressing the era and going for a drink. The bartenders were amazing and fun, excellent service. Delicious prohibition specific drinks. The food was so yummy too. Not loud or too dark. Tips: Must make reservation!

I loved the concept of having to find this place and give a password. The experience was so cool! That earned an extra star! We ordered the steamed clams, and they were pretty yummy. I would've liked more garlic flavor. And more bread. I ordered some at an extra charge, but they gave us crostinis instead. The crostinis were way too hard/crunchy for the sauce. And they didn't have the grilled flavor of the original bread. Meh. Then I tried to take the sauce to go, but they said they don't have any containers. More meh. Drinks were delicious though!

After hearing so much about this place, we decided to check it out. It's a fun concept to reserve online, wait for your password to arrive the day of reservation and then find the door marked Janitor in the lobby of the Gordon Hotel. Flip the switch at the door, and a little cutout in the door will be openen and you provide the password, and you are IN.... Fun! The speakeasy is small with about 10 bar stools and 10 tables. We were seated at the bar which was perfect since we just came in for a drink. Nice prohibition era cocktail choices like Manhattan, Sazerac, Aviator etc. The bartender was very nice and friendly and mixed an awesome cocktail! Gorgeous glassware and a beautiful decor makes for a fun time, despite the cocktail being on the small-ish side and pricey. I am glad we did not come for dinner since the food choices are limited to appetizers only. It is worth checking them out if you have never been!

Great experience, yummy drinks, loved the ambiance, fun place! Bartender was knowledgable. Highly recommend!

Happened to get a super last minute reservations the drinks were very good. Maybe even stronger than anticipated lol. They do appear to be very strict about their reservation policy as a couple before us was turned away for being late and their spots (seemingly) stayed empty the whole time we were there. But this is likely not uncommon amongst speakeasy's. Nothing overly special inside but we had a nice time overall!

This place is super fun, and the cocktails are really delicious and creative. You make a reservation online and get a text with the password and then there's a whole little ritual where you go the "Janitor's Closet". The bartender was friendly and sassy. The hostesses were friendly and attentive. We got some tasty calamari with our drinks and enjoyed ourselves and the atmosphere. I got a vodka cocktail, and a second one that was a variation on a Negroni. There are no non-alcoholic options unless you request them (but they did make one for my spouse, who doesn't drink, who said it was okay.)

This is an intimate space and their reservation process ensures everyone has a wonderful experience. Friendly staff that offer quality cocktails at reasonable price. Tip: show up a bit early to scope out the location and have a drink or dinner at the hotel lobby restaurant/bar.

    Just a janitor's closet...or is it?

Date: 9/30/23 Drinks: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Management: 5/5 TL;DR: I loved everything about this spot...and I don't even drink!! As a die-hard drinker who only imbibes when the brews are nonalcoholic and un-carbonated, I am far from the ideal candidate for a craft cocktail establishment...but my dining partner and I found ourselves pleasantly surprised at 86. To begin with, the "process" of getting into the establishment, while some might accuse as being gimmicky, is a great deal of fun. Finding the janitor's closet, ringing the bell, providing the password through a slot in the door, and being welcomed into a perfectly 20's-esque interior is nothing short of thrilling. Background music and the conversation of others blended together in the small room to create an atmosphere that was energetic but not frenetic. The mixologist at the bar was absolutely amazing--she respected our preferences and crafted three STUNNING zero-proof drinks of which we enjoyed every single sip. (The NA espresso martini was a surprise hit!) Although we did not enjoy any of the food from the menu of small bites, I found myself licking my lips as I watched plates of snacks and slider sandwiches sail by...next time I visit (and there WILL be a next time!) I will definitely come for the food, too. Thank you, 86, for such a unique, memorable experience and for being so accommodating. You have officially won our loyalty whenever we visit the city!

At night, from a distance, it was a shocker to see that this place was open and here. DRINKS: 7/10 SERVICE: 10/10 AMBIANCE: 10/10 What we ordered: Lemon & Ginger Mule Key Lime Rum Cocktail DRINKS: 7/10 The Lemon & Ginger Mule was fascinating and part of their Shrub specialty menu, which is a sweet-and-tart drinking vinegar made from fruit, sugar, and vinegar, created to preserve fruit. Definitely an acquired taste, but I loved the creativity behind it. The Key Lime Rum Cocktail was bright, refreshing, and perfectly balanced, with a tropical twist that was smooth and flavorful without being overly sweet. SERVICE: 10/10 The bartender serving us was friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciated how they explained some of the more unique cocktails and helped me pick something adventurous. She was a vibe for sure and seemed to be vibing with the other customers as well. AMBIANCE: 10/10 Crow & Cart nails that "handcrafted neighborhood bar" feel. The space is full of character with warm wood tones, plants, and personal touches everywhere. The vibe is cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect spot to relax. There is also outdoor seating. The Skybar is located on the 5th floor of the building along with the Hotel lobby... uh okay. The staff are all very pleasant and accommodating. We went to the SkyBar and found it to be a smallish yet convenient place to wait for guests or visitors along with getting a drink or a bite to eat. The bar looks like it can accommodate about 30 people in the interior. There is a nice outdoor patio that can easily accommodate more when the weather is nice. The barkeeper was very attentive and observant, he took our food and drink requests at the bar and in short order, everything was presented. I had a Moscow Mule that I found to be a refreshing drink. Ginger beer, lime and vodka. An excellent combination. I also had an order of the chicken wings and fries. The fries were a normal shoestring variety, cooked well, nicely salted and came in a metal bowl. The wings I found to be outstanding! I don't usually get wings this well made unless I do it myself. I received 8 wings coated with barbecue sauce on a charcuterie board with the fries. The wings were served nicely hot. The meat was piping hot, juicy and tender. The barbecue coating was a hearty middle of the road sauce, not sweet or too smoky. It was caramelized perfectly for that sticky texture and flavor. Definitely a nice coating. Thankfully the bartender brought us a lot of napkins. The wings and fries made for a satisfying meal. The bar boasts a couple of gas fireplaces that make for a warming environment with a few semi private tables. There is a longer table for a larger group as well as several smaller tables and a few bar stools for game watching. All in all we found the bar to be a cozy semi-private environment, yet available to the guests as they come and go. All around, a nice meeting area and watering hole. We will book our family members for a stay here at the hotel. I'm looking forward to trying more of their specialty drinks.

The profile looked pretty cool so we decided to go there for a drink. Once inside, it was pretty dark which is typical for a Tiki Bar. The decor was very good and there was a lot of it around. My fave was the mermaid skeleton above our seats. The drinks options were plentiful and they even had jello shots for a bargain price (we had a few of these for good measure!). I had The Monkey's Paw classic drink and another in our party had The Invisible Man drink. Each was lovingly prepared by the bartender who was super cool with the prep and conversations we had with him. I loved walking around and looking at all the decor on the walls and ceiling. There's a lot to see. There's even a door that leads to a courtyard with several food trucks ready to serve you. There is a stage near the entrance for bands and a small dance floor. I would love to return one evening to check out the atmosphere and do a little boogeying! Give this place a try. It's a well done Tiki Bar and one of the better ones I've been to.

I've lived here for around 5 years, and another 15 years up in Salem and this little restaurant is a gem in every respect. I've been to Rye at least 4 times since moving here. I had heard about it from friends and so my partner and I first tried it out and were highly impressed with the food, the servce and the ambiance. The menu is just a bit limited but between the specials and the menu offerings, there was plenty to choose from. Above all, what they do, they do very well. I and my partner ate at Rye three nights ago and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience in every way. AMBIENCE... The dining room is terrific. Lots of dark wood. The lighting of the room is especially conducive to privacy but not isolation. Inasmuch as it was raining to beat the band when we arrived, entering felt like a welcoming respite. The patrons' chatter was subdued but clearly they were having a great time. FOOD... We ordered cocktails (I enjoyed a Cocchi Rye whiskey cocktail which was delicious. The French onion soup I ordered was also very tasty and loaded with mozzarella atop the cup. I then dived into a "special" plate of a Chinook salmon fillet, finished perfectly and sitting on a bed or pureed squash. Excellent, I thought. Afterwards, we shared some sort of fruity pastry, sharing with two forks. SERVICE... From where I sat I could watch the bar activity, even the service window into the kitchen allowed me to watch all the activity. Our server was very efficient and cheerful and engaging without being overbearing in any way. AFTERTHOUGHTS: I will be coming back, of course. Rye is where you want to go to have a very good time eating out. You're not going to spend an arm and a leg to eat there but Rye is definitely not Denny's. I think this was my fourth trip there and all four times I felt thoroughly satisfied in every way.
