Food and service were good but the day before we went, we made a reservation. We spoke with a gentleman there who helped us make the reservation but when we arrived they had lost our reservation. The hostess was able to get us in but only, I believe, because they had had a cancellation but we were told we would not be able to stay very long. Later when we called and asked to speak to the manager to register our complaint we were hung up on. I do not recommend this place. It could be a very nice experience but ours was not. read more

Good cocktails, crazy long hard liquor list. Fun experience. Honestly it's just a neat back room with a door with a sliding view slot to set the stage as a speakeasy experience, so don't expect to be miraculously transported back to the 1930's Prohibition, but the drinks seal the deal. I went for the first and probably last time last night for a rare special night out (pre-theater drinks) for two hardworking moms. Perhaps the bartender was having an "off" night, but here was our assessment: Pros: Fun little "faux" exclusive concept with a password required (very easy to get with a reservation) Classy ambience Super yummy drinks Cons: From the moment we arrived, the bartender was not only cool and unfriendly, towards the end he was downright rude. He made no effort to make us feel comfortable, and shortly before our "time" was up he even went so far as to point out that our allotted time (70 minutes I think?) was up. That's fine, we understood, but the basic message was "you're not spending enough money" and "we don't really want your business so don't bother coming again." There were plenty of empty seats at the bar and otherwise, and we each bought two spendy cocktails each (four total) but had eaten beforehand so we didn't order any food. As I'm finding is often the case, Eugene is making an effort, but needs to improve in a few things. You can try to create a special atmosphere and yummy drinks, but making your customers feel valued (or at least not being downright rude to them) is what will keep them coming back. Apparently, this place is only interested in reviews from the people passing through town, and not from the professional and well networked locals who would have been happy recurring customers. read more

Everything was great! It was directly across from the Gordon Tavern, as long as you read the instructions given when making the reservation, you'll find it fine. Grayson, our barkeeper, was great! He was very informative when ordering our drinks and held conversation well. The drinks were delicious, unique, and in theme. There were only a few people there, but we went at 5:00 on a Tuesday lol. I'm giving 5 stars because the bar tender , his drinks and the atmosphere was amazing. Highly recommend paying a visit. Would be great for a romantic date night. I do have one critique. It was my Mother's birthday and we were all excited to get the secret password and find the door in. When we hit the switch a waitress opened the door. I guess we were expecting her to ask for the password, but she didn't. My brother said to her with a big smile, I believe the password is (the one we got texted) She just look confused and said what? He said it again and she said oh yea. With all the attention to detail at The Gordon we experienced, I guess we expected to experience that fun one and didn't get to. Just checked this place out one week after their opening. It's a beautiful space that's dimly lit with prohibition era ambiance that's really cozy. It's intimate but not crowded or noisy. The bartender was working really hard but was still engaging and responsive to customers. His drinks were fantastic too. The first drink I ordered was a frou-frou vodka, aperol, passion fruit something or another drink that was tasty but I thought it would be better served up in a martini glass rather than on the rocks in what was essentially a pint glass. All the ice took away from the tropical flavors and I felt like I was drinking fruit punch. Anyway I'd order it again if it were served differently. After drinking fruit punch, I had an old fashioned and it was really really delicious. It's hard to mess up an old fashioned but this one was absolutely perfect. Great ratio of everything and had a big ol fat orange peel. Just how I like it. I can tell this place uses the finest bourbon. Loved it. My friend and I shared the hummus plate which was so good. The pita bread was really soft and warm - not super crusty. The hummus was very flavorful and had a delicious, spicy tapenade on it. It was served along with grilled veggies (portabellos, peppers, and zucchini) and was phenomenal. I'd go back. And I love buying into gimmicks like this especially in boring ol Eugene. I made a reservation on Tok, for 4 people but then had to change it within 24 hours, which I could not cancel on Tock. I made another reservation for 6 people at this same location within the same time frame. As soon as we arrived at 5th street market (3 hours prior to the reservation) I went to the restuarant at the Gordon Hotel and cancelled my early reservation. We arrived at the Speakeasy and rang the bell a few times prior to the Manager or bartender arriving. He told us that he had tried to call me, as I had 2 reservations ( I did not have my phone with me ) I told him that I had cancelled the first reservation with the Gordon restuarant , which it was cancelled, prior to him callling me. . He cancelled both of my reservations and told us that we did not have a reservation. We had stayed in Eugene for an additional 2 hours, to go to the Speakeasy. . The Bar tenders attitude was hostile as was the server. We were seated and told that we needed to be out of there in an hour which we were. After the service I asked for the owners email which they told me I could find online. The Bartender told me this, as he takes a cleaninng rag to clean up the table and then proceeds to tell me to leave after we had paid. We will not be back ever. read more

My friend thought it would be fun to go here for her 70th birthday. Little did I know what an ordeal it would be. You cannot call this place. You must go online and make a reservation through Tock. You must give your email address, a deposit of $1 per person and indicate how many guests would be attending. Also, it is required that you agree to some legal agreement to make a reservation. As the day grew closer, so did our number of friends who wanted to join. I went online to adjust the number, but it was unclear if we would be guaranteed the 4 o'clock hour we had set. The site showed that 9 pm was available. We decided not to cancel our 4 o'clock. When I received the password through text on the day of the party I was asked to reply. I replied "Yes." I also said that the party had grown from 5 to seven people. I then received a text that said that our table could not accommodate 7. I was angry and replied to let them know that. Then I received a reply that they could have looked into adjusting our reservation, but I became "furious." I then replied, "Of course I became furious. You should have said you would try to rearrange things when you said the table wasn't big enough." By the way, Joey did not write the review, his mother did. My name is Pamela. We made reservations here to celebrate our anniversary while spending 3 nights at the hotel. I wish we would have read reviews before we did. We had the same experience with the bartender as many others. Very rude and unprofessional to everyone. It states you have 70 min but before we were even there 50 minutes he informs us that we have 15 minutes left in a very rude manner. Meanwhile the place was almost empty with only 6 other people there. One couple that came in wanted table instead of bar and they refused at first even though ALL tables were still open. The 3 staff gathered at bar to discuss for 5 minutes before letting the couple have table. Bartender also complained for everyone to hear about anyone being late would never get another reservation there. (We were right on time) not that I would ever want to go back. Ambiance not good. Weird music and very uncomfortable experience. Food and drinks were fine but nothing special. We had looked forward to this for 2 months and such a disappointment. read more

Super fun and unique! The drinks were yummy and they had a great drink selection. Plenty of old timey inspired mixed drinks and a huge list of whisky/scotch to choose by the glass. One complaint I have is that the bar stools are suuuper uncomfy! I'd love to see a sampler flight of the scotches and whiskeys! read more

Last night was my 3rd time visiting 86 Speakeasy and it definitely did not disappoint! If you have not tried them out yet I highly recommend making reservations ASAP ...trust me you will not be sorry! Our party of 4 was seated at the bar which was so much fun because we got to see Matt the absolutely incredibly talented mixologist in action at his craft! In addition to him making the best hand crafted cocktails ever he is super engaging and funny and makes you feel right at home. I personally have never been a gin fan however after trying out 3 different gin cocktails that Matt recommended I told him he had converted me and now I actually really like gin and that says a lot! From the time you step in the door and are greeted by the absolutely beautiful and sweet hostess Sadie to the time you leave you are treated like VIP! I wish I would have taken pics of all my gorgeous drinks but I was too busy enjoying them! read more

A lot of hype for something mediocre. The ambiance needs some work. Music needs to be louder as I felt I was in a library the size of a storage closet drinking overpriced drinks that were not made well. Maybe it was the Sazerac old fashion the bartender highly recommended. The drink had no ice served in a double old fashion glass with way too much simple syrup. Had one drink and left. Some simple improvements with proper lighting, music, and work on the cocktail recipes would make this place worth checking again. Service was great and the people were very nice. read more

Made a reservation for 4 people and they sat all 4 of us at the bar when there was no one else there. When we asked to sit at one of the 8 empty tables, the staff was not friendly and said no. We ended up leaving. The reservation should tell you you will be seated at the bar rather than a table, especially when you have to put down a deposit. read more

Very disappointing. Granted I made reservations the day before we wanted to go....maybe space was limited. We got seated at the dinner plate size table by the entry door. Not a good view of the bar and watching the people work. The drinks were good. Just felt like we were put at the "kids table". We advised the staff to just get rid of it....it is pathetic. The server did bring an additional table for us to use. When other people left, we asked to be moved because we wanted to order appetizers and our current situation was not conducive to that. Nope, not able to move us. We tried to sit at the bar, but they were expecting a seating of 4 at 6:00 so we could not......we left at 6:15, still no group of 4 at the bar. Highly disappointed. I wanted a special night for my husband and I because it has been a crappy year so far. Thanks for nothing. We decided we would finish our drinks and leave. So the server said just to signal her when we were ready to leave. Just a slap in the face of what was already a mess. We left, saw spaces at the bar in Gordon Tavern and went and sat there, had the appetizers we had intended to order. That server got the tip we usually give out.
