Instant greetings when we walked in. Came here a few times. Everything seemed the same as my last visit. It's nice and clean. You can see the kitchen through the windows. Too pricey for amount of food you gets. Tried steamed pork bun, it comes in 3, inside is like a table spoon ball of bamboo shoots, black mushroom and about 2-3 very mini cubes of very dark pork. I also ordered th pork bbq bun, tasty but its about half teaspoon of filling thats more sauce than pork, thich dough for mini fillings. Tasty too but not worth the price. They added soy sauce and sweet and sour sauce instead if chili oil in my to go bag. Will try other food next time but will definitely not order the above items again. Today was my first time visiting 88 Bao Bao with my daughter--she had her heart set on pork buns, and we were so excited to see them on the menu. We ordered the BBQ pork buns, pork lumpia, and stir fry rice noodles with chicken, and everything was delicious! The pork buns were fresh and super yummy, the lumpia was perfectly crispy, and the noodles were spot on in flavor and texture. The portion size for the noodles was huge--definitely enough for dinner tonight and probably lunch tomorrow too, which is a win in my book! The staff was friendly and welcoming, and one of the highlights was being able to watch the dumplings being made through the clear glass window into the kitchen. Weird for me to say this but the Dublin has bomb Shrimp Fried Rice. Why the difference? I dunno. Whenever I start a low carb diet, I get weak willed the next day and head to 88 Bao. I gave it 2 stars for the soup dumplings ( ok only) the rest of the times were either cold or too oily. The beef pancake rolls were cold. I watched the cook make the roll through the glass window and saw something I couldn't unsee. The pancakes were not made fresh and he attempted to warm it up but was served semi cold inside. The pork buns pulled out from a frozen bag and placed in the steamer. I am so disappointed that they were not made in house. The vermicelli noodles were tasty but the noodles were broken up and some parts did not have flavor. The shrimps were generous but small. The garlic noodles were so oily we brought it home to remove some of the oil. The pork buns tasted like frozen buns and confirmed by what I saw. Overall, a disappointing view and the bill was close to $100 with tips. I don't have pictures of the bun. I do not think it is ethical to steam frozen buns from a bag that from Ranch 99 and serving it. I believe this is a chain store and only this location does it. read more

This place is incredible. I can't believe I'm just barely trying it for the first time. My wife and I just had dinner here earlier today and we had an awesome experience. The place is clean and spotless. The table has chili oil, vinegar and a sweet soy sauce. Through the large glass window you can see the chef cooking up chow mein, fried rice and more. A woman is also molding the dumpling and shuimai while another person is cooking up other entree items. It's a great view for everyone to watch. We enjoyed their chili oil won tons; hints of peanut butter and chili oil with an authentic tasting won ton. The numbing sauce is just enough and very faint. We loved their Shanghai style chow mein; it's sweet with a smoky taste too. The shumai pieces are delicious and served in 8. The xiaolongbao is served fresh as well with a nice gingery broth inside. I love soaking these in vinegar! I can't wait to come back again and try more dishes like their popcorn chicken and fried rice! This is by far THE BEST Chinese dim sum and bao spot in the area. I took a nice drive out to Brentwood to meet some good friends and I wanted to meet at 88 Bao Bao. Their menu looked really good and their high yelp reviews made it quite appealing. Well, I couldn't find the place even with the help of Waze. It turns out it is two doors to the right of Trader Joe's so hope that will be a helpful tip for you. The interior is smallish and the people are really sweet. The food is A+. We ordered a nice variety of dishes, ALL extraordinary: sautéed green beans, beef roll, pork xiao long bao, popcorn chicken, pan-fried pork buns. I can't imagine the food being any better. Be careful when you bite into the pan-fried pork bun. It has a lot of yummy juice inside and it will squirt you or whoever is sitting next to you! The green beans were cooked perfectly. Everything was super delicious. We loved all the dishes we ordered, and the odd thing is it wasn't busy on this Sunday afternoon. There were a few diners eating inside, but it wasn't crowded as I would have expected. I would eat here regularly if I lived closer. Parking is a breeze. There were plenty of chicken and it was tender. We also ordered the popcorn chicken. It was lightly breaded, seasoned well, tender and served in a descent portion. The pan fried pot stickers were good! The outsell was lightly fried and very tasty. The meat inside was tender and seasoned well. The pork buns were ok. The bun was thick doughy or dry and the meat inside was ok too (unfortunately, I was expecting it to taste similar to the pork bbq bun or siopao that I've tasted at Filipino restaurants). The workers were very friendly and welcomed us right away. Though it was packed and they didn't have a lot of seating, they promptly cleaned the tables as soon as guests left so it would be available. Pretty good - not worth making a special trip to Brentwood (or their other location in Castro Valley I think), but if you're in the area, this is a great place to grab food. Brentwood does not have good Chinese food. But this place. It's not bad, decent good. The only dish I would write home about is their rice noodle dish. There stir fried rice noodle (vegetable) is one of my favorite dishes here. Perfectly seasoned reminds me of Singapore rice noodles but no curry powder tasting. Stopped by recently with a work associate to grab a meal after a busy day. We saw the dim sum signs and knew where we were headed. Traditional walk up counter service, we grabbed a couple menus went outside and open found a table and fill out the order form, trying a variety of items - back inside paid at the register and got a number. It was a night afternoon and sitting outsise was an ideal spot - within ten minutes the first of our orders started to appear at our table. First the steamed BBQ Pork Buns a nice pillowy bun with well seasoned pork, a little to much bun to meat but still good. Next the Green beans, they were a standout. A nice serving of succulent beans just the right amount of seasoning and fresh - enough to split for sure and we ate every one. Within another two to three minutes our first dumplings and the chowmein appeared. The Vegetable Chowmein is a huge portion, more than enough to share and we could not finish it. The noodle were good but a little dense, the flavor good and seasoning on point - good but my least favorite of all the dishes we tried. Also arriving with the noodles, the first of our dumplings, the Steamed Pork. Very good, large full dumplings with tasty pork a broth, the dumpling firm and full all in all a good choice. Last but definitely not least to make their way to us, the Shrimp dumplings an order of eight beautiful dumplings a bit smaller than the pork - stuffed with nice sweet shrimp also a very nice dumpling and a good choice. Our order: pork and crab roe XLB, wonton soup, stir fry vermicelli with chicken, steamed pork and chive dumplings Previously dined at their Dublin location (and trying to not compare the two!). The stir fry vermicelli is a must here, it has that wok-on-open fire taste and fragrance that feels like streets of night markets. Every dumpling was filled to the brim. The XLB filling was a little on a saltier side and the broth wasn't as clear as I would've liked, so there is a bit of a lingering grease in my mouth. I think the owners of this particular store are Cantonese and added their flare because I do taste and see the increased use of dark soy sauce in the fillings. The skin of the steamed dumplings was supple and soft. The menu here is adapted for the Asian demographics of the area. They serve a few Cantonese dim sum classics, and even lumpia. The restaurants sells frozen dumplings that you can take home and DIY. We purchased a bag of their frozen XLB and will write an updated review once we've tried them out! I do have to say... it's a little pricey for dim sum... I think automatically I was comparing this place to Din Tai Fung... A lot of the spice flavor comes from the schezuan peppercorn, which has a tingly/numbing sensation on the tongue. Overall, the food is good, and great size or portions, we weren't able to finish all our food so we took home leftovers. Even though, this comes off as a fast food dumpling place and it literally JUST opened, me and my husband really enjoyed this place. I work by the Dublin location and haven't had the chance to try it so I was super happy to see they opened one in Antioch. Everything we order was A1 and now my husband is overly obsessed with their foods - LOL! Definitely will be back to try the rest on their menus and already know I won't be disappointed. I am going to say that the location is a bit small, so if your planning on eating THERE and it's packed, expect to wait for awhile cause it's only a few seatings and two seatings outside as well as located on the most busiest plaza. read more
