I've been coming to this Japanese restaurant ever since high school. My son is graduating high school tomorrow so I decided to bring him here before his last day of school. The first thing my son said when he walked in was " Dad, I like interior design and feel of the place". The atmosphere and environment was cozy with a Japanese vibe. You can tell this is a mom and Pop family establishment. The lady that took our order is very nice and provided good service. This is the same lady working when I came here during my high school days in the 90's. My son ordered tonkatsu a deep fried pork fillet and I ordered a dish called Kinoko which is chicken and mushrooms in a sweet garlic sauce. Our entrees also came with house salad & miso soup. We also ordered California roll & tapi maki which is salmon. The owner lady frequently checked on us, polite, and always came back to fill our waters. My son especially likes the sushi bar because we can see the chef roll the sushis from all the fresh ingredients. He definitely has skills. The portion size was decent and the food quality and flavors made up for that. Absolute WIN coming here! We will definitely come back and hopefully be regulars. Decided to try this place for sushi since I was craving so much for sushi in my first trimester. I tried to refrain from eating sushi since I know it risky to have during pregnancy, so I stuck with the basic cali roll. The first bite was fulfilling that craving until my partner was asking me what's in it. As I was picking up the next sushi, it slightly came apart and dropped from the chopstick. That's when I seen something off and opened the seaweed to see a molded avocado! Ugh, we drove back and the place was quiet with 2 customers dining. I didn't want to make a scene but the lady kept trying to gaslight me that it was okay and she couldn't refund our money. I had to raise my voice to explain that it's mold and I don't want it. No. The 2 of us came by for dinner and despite only 4 tables were occupied and there were 2 waitresses, it took a while for them to take our order. Sushi sashimi combo- Some fish were fishy. Sushi rice in these nigiris was terrible: dry, no flavor, and didn't hold up its shape. Suki (beef) don - The older waitress brought chicken don over to us, saying she accidentally gave our beef to another table so she has their chicken order for us instead... we took it because we've already waited a while. Odd. They should've corrected their mistake instead of offering us another table's order. Service: Ugh. We asked for a box and check from the younger waitress. She said okay, left, and came back.... to clean the table next to ours. Reminded her again and she said okay. Brought over a box... and no check. Then she went serving other tables so we reminded her the 3rd time. Replied okay, went around again, and took a while to come back with the check. Food was okay. Some of them lacked flavor or were very fishy Service was not the best the owner/ manager was not nice and made rude comments when ordering. "That will be too much food are you sure about that" I can assure you that this was definitely not a lot of food. The waitress had made a mistake and gave us 2 salmon nigiri which we ate but it happened to be for another table. This was my first time here so we assumed it came with our order or not sure. The waitresses got scolded as well multiple times during different times throughout our stay. The waitress did not look happy at all. Which is a shame she was treated that way over $4.50. The manager came over and told us it was for another table and charged us for it but did not let us know they would be charging us they just put it on our tab. We didn't mind paying it for because it made sense but a notice would have been great. The way they give you the receipts was confusing it's just a hand written paper with your order and the final price on it. read more

I usually get sushi here, and as you know if you've read my previous review, they make it well. I decided to try the wonton ramen soup for a change of pace on a rainy day. It was delicious. The wontons are made fresh. They were not mushy at all. Both the wontons and the ramen noodles were high quality, and the broth was delicious. I received friendly service from the owners, who hadn't seen me in a while. The ambience is actually quite nice, despite being located in an unfortunately downtrodden neighborhood. Went with some basic bento boxes, which were just the right amount of food. My husband and I came here today 6/23/26 and it was our first time at the place. We tried 4 orders: okawa rolls, rock and roll, firecracker, and calamari. Okawa roll is the only roll that we both agree on that we will come back for it. It is a decent place, and it is close to our home. It is a local business and we like to support local business. More than that, we found at least one roll we like, so we might as well coming back for that and maybe we will try some other rolls. read more

Reminded me of the Japanese restaurants in SF Japan Town. I ordered the teriyaki beef entree which was a good portion and beef was actual steak cut up versus the thin sliced beef like some other Japanese places. Get the Miso soup, trust me. I had a craving for sushi and my go to place just closed down. I haven't been to Okawa for probably 20yrs. I have to say everything seems the same. Cutely decorated. I ordered take out so I didn't take pictures. I had the okawa roll which was huge. The shrimp tempura inside was hard and very crunchy. It took something away from the roll. They also they forgot the special sauce. It was 3.5/5 The second roll was the Julie roll. I was surprised that It was only two pieces, it was salmon and white tuna made into a flower shape and the center was stuffed with a spicy mayo scallop mixture. That mixture was very fishy tasting 3/5. I will give them another try but next time eat in and go for my usual rainbow roll. It's basic and if they mess that up then I'll know to write them off. I am super disappointed as the service here is usually fantastic. I've been coming here since I was a child! I came here today to eat dinner and was treated horribly. First off while we were ordering our drinks she rushed us and kept asking over and over what we wanted to drink! That's the first thing that threw me off. Second after we were "done" ordering(because she cut us off and said something super nasty) she said "you order your appetizer now and don't be wasting my money getting drunk and and not eating your food." Like for real I've never been treated like that before. I'm not sure if she's menopausing out or if she just had a bad day but that's still no excuse to just be a flat out cunt. This place never disappoints!!!! They definitely know what they are doing . Seafood salad is super and the nigiris are good sizes. Bento box is always on point and the rolls my favorite is the lion king and dragon roll. I love how they bake the rolls. I really want to give them a 5 for this dine in because I am here once every few months butthe lady who works there is just ehhh. Recently picked up sushi orders of this fantastic restaurant I couldn't be more impressed with the overall experience. From the moment I walked in the ambience was inviting with a beautiful fish tank , and the staff was exceptionally friendly and great . All the Sushi I've tried here. It was absolutely delightful and very delicious especially my favorite eel dish. The chefs here are amazing. My order was ready. Within 30 minutes of ordering it. It was packed up very nicely. This place is bomb! I had a craving for sushi last night and we are fairly new to Antioch so turned to Yelp for some sushi spots. Saw this place had good ratings and overall good reviews so thought we would give it a shot. We ordered take out - firecracker roll and agedashi tofu. When we got home and inhaled it! Firecracker roll IS FIRE and the tofu was cooked perfectly. When we went to pick up the food the owner (I'm assuming she's the owner) had me wait a little longer because she wanted to make sure i got the tofu fresh out the fryer. So glad she did because it was so good. We def plan to make this our go to spot for sushi. We placed the order after 7p and the only thing I'd change is what time we get food here because there were definitely a lot of sketch folks walking around this neighborhood lol but had nothing to do with the restaurant. read more

As long as you come here on non peak hours, you can get a table or bar. I believe this place is own by the married couple. The wife takes the order and the husband is the chef. We ordered some sushi and bento box. I have to say, the highlight meal of the day was the bento box. The tempura were huge and probably one of the best. Wow, thank you, Tina! We decided to find a spot nearby to have some sushi and decided to stop at Okawa. Their Yelp page stated they would be open till 10pm, but they actually close at 8:30pm. The Okawa team was kind enough to still seat us 8:30pm and allow us to dine till 9:30pm. Hence, the service was phenomenal and the food was just as good. Their food is good but EVERY TIME I ask for more soy sauce packets they look at me crazy and cop a nasty attitude. Like is there a problem? Like if you don't give me my damn soy sauce! I come in here spending $25 or more you better give me more than 2 itty bitty PACKETS! On amazon soy sauce is about 10-30 bucks for several hundreds if I was petty I'd buy a box and throw it on the counter! Theres no reason to cop an attitude for some soy sauce like be fr. Amazing service, good food and clean! I would return. I loved that the staff seemed to know everyone's name. The ambiance is great for families, groups, dates and solo folks. In a world where most casual restaurants seem to not even be able to keep their floors, counters or washrooms clean, it was nice to walk into a place where there is old school respect for the customer experience.
