The food sucks, the service sucks, the management sucks. They used all leftover foods from the last couple days and reuse for current day. The severs here never wear the groves when they are making the side works such as wontons, cheese wontons and pork dumplings at the back of the kitchen. I knew this because I used to be one of them. Some time the owners even picked the expensive seafoods from the trash and reuse them when customers wasted. Overall, if I could rate this restaurant as no star I think I would, because it is really disgusting and out of any responsibility. Love this buffet! This is my go-to spot whenever I visit Huntsville. I read some reviews aging the place went downhill; I've only been going here for about a year so I guess I can't speak much on that aspect but currently, the restaurant looks fantastic! The buffet selection was actually pleasing. They had everything from pizza (thin, but still pizza) to crab, to squid. My favorite part about it is the hibachi line, where the chef prepares the food for you. Although there could be more items on the hibachi menu, it was still good nonetheless. The sushi line was a little disappointing though, I definitely expect a larger variety of sushi- they kind of all looked the same, minus some spicy mayo/dressing on some and not others. One major disappointing thing about it, and probably why I knocked off a star, was the quality of the dessert line, specifically the "ice cream." The frozen yogurt flavor "Cookies and Creme" was disgusting, and did not look anything like Cookies and Creme. It had a strange aftertaste that was not satisfying at all, and the vanilla/chocolate ice cream flavors were nothing special. I'm not saying I had to be blown away but they could have at least included a toppings station... even Golden Corral has that and I HATE Golden Corral. The banana/nilla wafer pudding was delicious though, so I definitely recommend anyone who is a fan of that kind of pudding try it. Overall, it came out to about $14 per person, which is a tad more expensive than your average buffet, but I didn't feel like my dollar was nipped. Ok. Just moved here from So Cal. Been to many "Chinese Buffets" back there. All are the same. Extremely Mediocre at Best. Many claim to be just Like Vegas. Not even close. All are the same way over priced dumps. $20+ per person with less than half the selections as 88 Buffet has. They spend most of the time scooping the remaining food into the center of the pan and only bring out more when it's just about empty. I've been to 88 Buffet twice in the last month I've been here. I have to say, this place is hands down much, much better than any in Southern California. For the yelpers that have trashed this place. You ought to try any in So Cal. You'll have a new found liking for 88 Buffet. 4 Stars as I agree with a couple other yelpers. Their Dessert section could use a little improvement. Other than that. We came here for Christmas (lol) and this place is WELL above average any Chinese buffet I've ever been to. The chicken was crispy and tasted like a higher end restaurant, not the gooey mush you sometimes get at a buffet. They have a large salad bar filled with fruit and a hibachi grill. Seating by the hostess was speechless as the hostess never uttered a word other than "how many" and "what you drink", no come this way, no greeting, no response to thank you; no words exchanged at all. Food was plentiful and like any other buffet setting here in the South folks don't seem to understand that you can go back for more. People walking around with plates overflowing with food some falling off onto the floor. Folks it called a Buffett for a reason. Our server was SUPER AWESOME catering to our every need even though he was busier than a person juggling two chain saws. Food tasted good and as indicated it was plentiful. We were rather bummed though as they do not offer eggs for the hibachi grill. Some folks get their protein through eggs and not having them available makes it hard for a vegetarian to enjoy a meal here. After all you are charging over $15.00 per head... Mood was loud with eclectic music playing combined with the buzz of people slurping their food and kids running around to the ice cream machine; to much sensual stimulation for me. If you visit their website they have several photos of plates with a variety of rolls and nigirI. I didn't expect to have that amount of selection on the buffet, but I did expect to have a few. We visited during a peak time, and no Nigiri. The only rolls available were what I would call Variety California rolls and spicy tuna rolls, and something tempura, that's it. The yummy roll is a favorite among others, but not for me. Next is the real deal, you can go two routes, hibachi or buffet. I have done both, and I prefer the buffet. Simply because I am a sucker for the chicken on a stick, crab rangoons (which are like little pillows of deep fried happiness), spring egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken, stir fried green beans, honey chicken, and lastly. The best dish on a Chinese buffet.. the crab casserole. The crab casserole is imitation crab meat, loaded with a mayonnaise/sour cream weird mixture, lots and lots of onion and cheese. I know sounds gross right ? Wrong. It's like heaven if you love imitation crab, which I do. Once you go back about 4/5 times and your pants are bursting at the seams, you can try to force dessert down which includes soft serve ice cream and some small pastries. Although the restaurant advertises they are open until 9:30, they run out of most food by 8:30. Today, went at 8:45 and almost no food available. When they have no food, they like to say they close at 9 due to pandemic. But when they have food they are open as advertised on their door, website, and google until 9:30PM. Bottom line is do not go eat there after 8PM as when food is gone it is gone and not replaced. This is what 2 star and less restaurants will do. In this case the food that was left was dried up and old so this restaurant gets one star. read more

I give 'em three and a half overall. Big parking lot has plenty of room to park a pickup truck with an RV trailer. Buffet has a large selection of very good food. Service was very good, except that our waitress was in a bit of a hurry for us to pay her. I joke that I base my expectations of a Chinese restaurant on how good their goldfish look out front. The goldfish tanks were empty today, so maybe that's not the best omen. However, there were plenty of customers at lunch. There was no panhandler in the parking lot today. Meh... I'm not sure I could ever give a Chinese buffet like this one more than 2 or 3 stars. Yeah, they had a million different things on those buffet tables but you certainly sacrifice quality when you shoot for quantity. The place was completely packed out during the lunchtime rush so it was hard to get things off the buffet. The tables are crowded together which makes it really difficult to get back and forth between the buffet and your seat. Don't drink your drink too fast because you will likely not be getting a refill, specially if they're busy. I wish she would have at least sat a pitcher of water on the table or something because I was really thirsty by the end of the meal and there are so few "waitresses" that it's really hard to flag one down. Obviously I couldn't try everything, but the few staple dishes that I did have were disappointing. Some were overcooked, some had too strong a sauce, and the egg drop soup had a series lack of egg. Came in with my service dog whose main tasks are mobility and balance as well as alert for seizures, passing out and muscle spasms. On Feb 21, 2020, my dog accompanied me to the dessert bar and I was confronted by the "duty manager " & was told a customer complained because she was scared. And needed to keep my dog out of sight. I advise her of the law and when leaving I went over and showed her the federal law to educate her. Left under the impression she understood. Went back last night and before getting all the way in the door, she came running up to tell me I was not allowed to bring my service dog in per the manager who just had called. I explained she was infringing upon my rights and went over the law again but she was yelling the entire time. She finally agreed to sit us but was yelling at me in front of other customers that I was not allowed for my dog to be seen and he was not allowed to assist my mobility needs and accompany me to the bar and I didn't follow her directions she insisted upon us leaving. I advised her again of the federal law and that I would be following thru with reporting her, etc and she said she didn't care and would be glad to testify, etc. When we went to leave, stopped and asked her if I was in a wheelchair would she deny me service and she responded "of course not". I explained that my service dog is my medical equipment same as a cane or wheelchair, etc protected by federal law. I asked her for the name of the owner which she refused to give. I asked for her name and she wrote it down along with her personal number, then suddenly marked thru her number and started to grab the paper to throw away. Luckily I was faster than her and grabbed the paper before she took it and announced she doesn't speak English and would not say anything else. As my friend was standing there as I was walking away, she stood there mumbling...in English. Why did I stay? Just tried this place for the first time. We didn't have time to even stop walking as we walked in, they had us already walking to a table so the quickness on the service was great. First thought was how great the atmosphere was. There was a fancy little walkway on the way in and the booths are just as nice or nicer than a big fancy restaurant. Our drink order was took before we sat down. The food was average. Nothing was nasty but nothing was to die for. I'm thinking their idea is quantity over quality even though everything was fine. My favorite thing about this place overall was how quick our finished plates were removed. It was almost like sliding the plate to the edge of the table to a giant vacuum because as soon as my finger lifted off of the used plate, it was gone. We went pretty late on a Tuesday night. Much later than I preferred. The selection was good and the place was clean. Some of the pans weren't as hot as they should be and some of the food wasn't that hot. The catfish that we got for the boy was pretty much rawhide. The best Asian buffet I've gone to in Alabama hands down. Considering the options: Asian cuisine, Western cuisine, sushi, hibachi, and ice cream, you get a variety of food for a fair price point. They also have coconut shrimp, which is my fave! Sadly, however, they don't have crab legs or crawfish, but they do have clams and fried blue crab. If you've never eaten real Chinese food then Chinese buffets can only be expected to live up to your expectations of other Amercanized Chinese buffets. I think we as Americans have come to learn that. What we want in a Chinese buffet nowadays is clean, hot and tasty. Being brand spanking new has it's perks. Walking inside I felt they certainly went all out on the decorations. It's an open floorplan and felt like it kept going on forever and ever in either direction. You can see a banquet style room to your left when you enter and somewhere in there, it just keeps going back behind a wall with more tables. The food might not knock you out, but the decor just might. Quite fancy for a Chinese buffet. The appeal for 88 comes from that sushi & hibachi they have in the back. We haven't had a free-for-all hibachi in Huntsville since Formosa closed so long ago (Formosa was awesome, I don't care what anyone said about the "mystery meat"...). I mean of course we have the japanese restaurants that charge you an arm and leg for 2 oz of food, but this is all you can eat! Pile on the sauce Chef, char it a little more, this is the place you tell the chef the way you want it! I neither eat fish or ate anything on the hibachi since the line was getting longer and I was on lunch break so I can't speak of the cooking & sushi making skills, but my friends tell me it's pretty awesome. The food on the heat tables is your standard fare of Amercanized Chinese food, General Tso chicken, chicken on a stick, eggrolls, vegatable rolls and green beans, etc. They have some American items, the standard salads and desserts. While hot, they were pretty good, but didn't taste any different than anything else you'll find at other Chinese buffets. So my verdict was, it's new and clean and I can see the appeal as to why the line is backed out the door during lunch with the sushi & hibachi. But the rest is standard American Chinese food. It all ends up tasting the same. The price is certainly good for what you can shovel in. But seriously, I want to know where to get this cookbook all Chinese buffets seem to cook from. How can it all taste the same from one restaurant to another in different states...that's just weird. I will go back, probably because heck it's Chinese food. I am not normally a fan of buffets. I always feel gross after from all the MSG and grease. I have tried most of the restaurants and decided to give it a shot. I am sooo happy we went here to eat. They have Chinese, American, sushi, salad, and hibachi. With all the choices I was actually able to eat healthy. They had oysters, shrimp, and even craw-fish. I didn't try these because I ate too much before getting to them, but I can't wait to go back on try them. And they dessert selection is great. They have many cakes, and even brownies. The interior is impressive, especially the entrance. The place is huge and clean with great lighting. The buffet is impressive with a great selection. There is food for everyone including the kids. The buffet includes all the standard plus lots of boiled shrimp and crawfish. The salad bar is basic with everything looking fresh. The only odd thing I saw was the salad dressing labels. They have Runch and Hot Master dressings...at least I hope that was Ranch dressing...tasted like it. Very comparable to the old King Buffet in Madison. Also, 88 Buffet has a sushi bar and hibachi grill which is included in your meal. Total meal price with soft drink $10 with tip. I will be back often. read more

This is a really good Chinese buffet. Weekday lunch will cost you just $6.50. Otherwise, it's $9.99. For the extra price, you get extra options. The interior is beautiful and nicely spaced out. As with most buffets, there's a sushi bar. 88 also provides a Mongolian grill (add ingredients to plate and have a cook fry it up for you) and a raw bar complete with mounds of oysters, shrimp and crawfish! The sushi bar is probably one of the best I've seen. Not the best sushi, but there's a decent selection of nigiri and maki sushi. For those opting to take their meal to-go, sushi is $0.50 a piece. A fellow diner had the Mongolian grill cook fry up some yaki-udon. Yum. There are lots of dishes to choose from so you have to be picky about what you want to eat and try. The dessert spread is big but kind of one-noted. Lots of yellow cake with different frostings and flavorings. They have about six different ice creams/sorbets and the requisite fruit, jell-o squares and pudding. This is my new go-to Chinese buffet when I'm in town. read more
