Are you craving for Japanese Katsu, Tonkatsu, Soba, or udon soup? Check out this spot. This restaurant is located in Amerige Heights Town Center shopping and dining plaza. All the tables are hooked with mini tablet ordering system. Once you order is placed, it will be sent directly to the kitchen. Ordered Katsu Don - $16.88. Chickens with rice, scrambled eggs, pickled radish, jalapeños, and miso broth soup. My dish originally comes with pork so I substituted Chicken for $1.88 more. I loved the perfectly cooked breaded crispy chickens with savory rice, eggs and onions. Overall, the flavor of this dish was perfect. The miso soup was so good that I wanted more. It wasn't salty like most places. It was just perfect broth perfect. I adde extra spice to kick up the knot. Super friendly staff. Ambiance is really nice. Overall, great Japanese comfort food!
I was intrigued by 88 Katsu when I came across it on Yelp - located in Amerige Heights Town Center. Parking right in front is a bit limited, but there's plenty available in the larger shared plaza with stores like Barnes & Noble and Target nearby. We came in with a party of 8 around noon on a Sunday and were seated pretty quickly after adding our name to the waitlist on the tablet up front. Each table also has a tablet for ordering, which made the process super easy. I tried the 88 Tonkatsu ($16.88), Spicy Tonkatsu ($18.88), and Fishcake Udon ($13.88). Portions were generous across the board, but the pork was unfortunately a bit dry. The spicy tonkatsu dipping sauce stood out as it had great flavor with a nice kick. The udon was just okay; the noodles were thick and chewy, but it only came with a couple pieces of fish cake. Each katsu set came nicely presented with sauce, cabbage salad, miso soup, white rice, pickled jalapeño, and kimchi radish. There's a decent amount of indoor seating with an open layout. The place seems to turn tables over quickly, so even when it gets busy the wait doesn't seem too bad.
TLDR - Good food, good service, plenty of parking, nice place to have dinner - would recommend. Came here on a Saturday for lunch with friends and we got a couple things - the chicken katsu and the jumbo pork katsu. I wasn't too big a fan of their normal katsu sauce or their katsu sauce for the jumbo katsu but the spicy sauce is VERY good. I'd def recommend getting that on the side. Katsu wise, both are good - the chicken katsu is more tender but the pork katsu is more flavorful in my opinion. Really can't go wrong with either. The sides are typical but not bad.
The katsu here was very good. Generous portion and has variety of it. My daughter got the curry katsu and I got the spicy katsu. I would love to try the jumbo katsu next time. The curry was just OK. My daughter and I prefer the curry from our local restaurant instead. The spicy sauce was some gojuchang mix and it was very spicy for me. I enjoyed the spicy sauce even though I kept drinking the water.
Finally stopped by 88 Katsu for dinner. Outside, the plaza conveniently offers plenty of parking, and inside feels like a sterile and modern cafeteria with a good amount of close-quarters seating. Place your order via the tablet on your table and wait for your stuff to come out! The style of breading here is large and thick, almost reminiscent of crushed cornflakes, and it is more crunchy than crispy. SPICY KATSU: 4/5. The spice is not like typical Korean spice, it almost had a roasted red pepper flavor and it was reminiscent of a spicy pasta sauce. The spice definitely blooms over time. CHEESE KATSU: 4/5. Good, but decadent. While I did find the breading a little hard to bite through here, the cheese was so good, melty and mild.
With the new sauces and items, I had to try the curry katsu. I think the breading is better now than it was the first time. So definite 5 out of 5 for the curry katsu. The only thing I would do differently is to ask for the curry in the side. As it is served now, the katsu lays on a the curry sauce which soaks the katsu and doesn't allow it to remain crispy. Also the first time I visited the servers were really friendly. This time, not so much. The two girls were okay in terms of service but neither had smiles. It was all business for them. This was on a busy Saturday evening so maybe they were tired. Lastly, you now order from a kiosk at the table and they have a few other dishes now like the galbi/pork which I'll try next time.
Good restaurant with good food that has yet to blow up. Came with my wife at 11 when they opened. Really easy to find parking and was really easy to get seated as I got there early. Got the jumbo katsu and the fish katsu and both were great. Way too large to even finish so we basically took half home. The katsu is very good and crispy and while it is a little pricey the size makes it worth it. Location is great, service is easy as well can order in a tablet, and overall the experience is great. Highly recommend coming here!
Saw this place on tiktok, so I wanted to try it. There was some wait on Wed dinner time. But everything came out beautifully. The breading was light, super crispy, and not greasy at all. The meat inside was tender and juicy every single time. The tonkatsu sauce had that perfect balance of sweet and tangy, and spicy sauce was rich without being overwhelming. The fish katsu was a hit! Even the shredded cabbage was fresh and well-seasoned. Service was friendly and the food came out fast. Prices are totally reasonable for the quality you're getting. This place is a hidden gem and I'll absolutely be back. Highly recommend bringing friends so you can try more of the menu!
First time here, I decided to check it out after hearing so many good things. I'm happy to report it's not just hype. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Our family got the 88 Tonkatsu, 88 Jumbo Tonkatsu, Cheese Tonkatsu, and two Fish Cake Udon. Honestly, all of them were amazing, but if I had to rank the tonkatsu, I'd put the Cheese Tonkatsu first, the 88 Tonkatsu second, and the Jumbo third. The Jumbo was still tasty, but it was a bit too saucy for me. I love a good crunch, and the extra sauce took away from that crispiness. If you're all about that perfectly crispy bite, I'd recommend going with the 88 Tonkatsu. The udon was SO good, comforting and flavor is amazing. Service was simple and convenient since you order through a device and just request anything you need along the way. The ambiance was nice and spacious with plenty of seating. We'll definitely be back. Hot take: THIS PLACE IS BETTER THAN YOKO...
Wow, thick and large pork cutlet, can't beat the juicy pork bites. Bit different than the typical Korean katsu I enjoy. Sauce is more liquid making me use more of it, then feeling kinda salty from dipping more:) Cleaner salad dressing, pretty good. Radish a bit bland maybe. The star of the meal is the big thick pork, you will leave full. Like Arby's says, We Have The Meats! Had Suntory Premium, a beer I've been seeking since having a pitcher of it maybe 6 years ago. Definitely great beer, but a bit pricey for a skinny glass. Wish it was a big honking mug, or a pitcher, lol.

Not heavy, not overly salty, just soothing. The fish cakes were tender and subtly sweet, and the noodles tasted fresh with the perfect chew. It's the kind of bowl you crave when you want something that feels like it's quietly taking care of you. Service was attentive without hovering. Water refills came before we even noticed they were low, and food arrived hot and well-paced. Nothing felt rushed. Ambiance strikes that sweet spot between casual and cozy. Clean lines, warm lighting, and an atmosphere that makes you want to linger a little longer than you planned. It works just as well for a low-key dinner as it does for a comfort-food solo date. I found a new Katsu curry restaurant on Instagram a week ago and bookmarked it to discover later. I decided to try a new spot in Melvern mall during my vation. I got there early before opening time, waiting until 11:00 and checked the menu on the window. The location is right next to the Starbuck's. I noticed this Barnes n Noble local mall has changed a lot lately and remained only old anchors such as Target, Ross, Starbuck's, Barn n Noble, panda express, bath n bodywork, Wells Fargo, and Gold gym replaced by EOS Fitness. Many new korean restaurants are opening this area, New ddeokbokki restaurant Dooki, korean soup Tang restaurant, korean bakery Tous Les Jours. I was so excited about the 88 jumbo pork cutlet and cheese cutlet which lots of Yelpers mentioned on the reviews. First, I saw the tablet for order at each table and the clean dining area. I love bright ambiance. My hubby likes korean style big and crunchy katsu so I ordered 88 jumbo katsu, one beer, and cheese katsu for me. The service was not too slow on the opening time. I first tasted jumbo katsu, lots of people commented about the size. Huge!!! Enough for 2 people. The cutlet thickness was enough, not too thin. The side dishes were jalapeno pickles, radish kimchi called kkockdduki, white rice, cabbage salad, and kalbi soup w radishes. The cutlet sauce was exactly korean style mild, light sauce. Everything was good, crunchy katsu, huge portion, fresh cabbage salad, but the white rice was almost hard stone texture, uncooked completely. I got upset and my hubby also complained. My cheese katsu was soft inside, crunchy outside w well balanced texture. However, our final pick was 88 jumbo katsu except the rice. Very dissapointing!! In general, the white rice is 101 basic essential daily food in Japan as well as Korea. I think they have to know the problem why the rice was hard, raw, no chewy flavors, uncooked 40% of rice grains. I remember now one of sushi restaurants had hard sushi rice when I ordered the unagi roll in the past, I never went back to that sushi restaurant. I talked to the manager about the rice. So many Yelpers commented about the rice since they opened the business. I even read the reviews about hard rice when I bookmarked this new restaurant. Was not enough time to fix the same issue for 2 months???? I have no idea. Once I got the check, he didn't charge one cutlet, but I felt I didn't want to leave any tips. I just wanted the chewy, flavorful rice w my fave pork katsu. Hopefully they fix the problem ASAP, we can try it again soon. Chewy fully cooked rice....please!!! I recommend here if you look for korean style or Japanese style katsu...haha. For the tip, we tried a new Mitsuwa Cypress Tokyo katsu, the portion was so tiny, no service at all w expensive price. This might be my new favorite katsu restaurant. I used to go to curry do but it unfortunately closed down. I was originally going to go next door to kitch cafe but we had just missed their lunch hours so we decided to go here instead since it has been on my bookmarks. We went around 3pm and got sat down right away. Ordering is very easy, there's a tablet on the tablet where you can send in your orders. We didn't wait too long for our food to come out once it was placed. We probably waited 8-10 minutes which isn't bad at all. I ordered the cheese tonkatsu and that cheese pull is perfect. Not sure what the orange sauce it came with was but it was absolutely delicious. My sister ordered the spicy tonkatsu and my boyfriend got the curry katsu. Both delicious! Ive been to some restaurants where the Katsu was slightly dry but the katsu here isn't dry at all, it was juicy! The spicy tonkatsu wasn't spicy at all but still good, just wish it was more spicy. If you're craving katsu, I highly recommend this place! This will definitely be my new go to katsu place. read more
Came here and tried the spicy don katsu, jumbo don katsu, and katsu don. The katsu don was hearty, comforting, and super filling. The jumbo katsu and regular katsu actually have different textures. The jumbo seemed to use a mix of dark chicken meat, which made it juicier and less dry, while the regular katsu is lighter. Pro tip: you can ask for their spicy sauce on the side no matter which katsu you order. I'd go with jumbo katsu + spicy sauce on the side or just a classic katsu don. We found a new Katsu restaurant in the Barnes N Noble mall Fullerton. Old anchors are leaving lately and new Korean restaurants are opening. This is located next to the Starbuck's. Easy to find it and the parking is huge around Barnes and Noble, Ross, and EOS fitness areas. We waited for 20 mins until 11, opening time. Not many customers yet, I don't like too packed during lunch time. I was not used to order using the tablet. But it was quite simple click and submit our order at the table. Our choice was popular 88 jumbo katsu, korean style, my wife got the cheese katsu. The service was friendly, not too slow, we got the 1st fresh deep fried jumbo pork katsu and cheese katsu. Looked so crunchy, huge cutlet w cabbage salad, white rice, beef soup? And jalapeño pickles, and radish kimchi. My katsu was super crunchy, I felt cruchy sound when I cut it in small bite sizes. The sauce is mild, not too dark like Japanese cutlet sauce. I loved it. But I noticed my white rice was not fully cooked, almost more than 40% was raw, hard texture. I was not happy. My wife said the same complaining about the rice. She got upset. Why didn't they make chewy, flavorful rice???? It is important to measure right amount of water and rice portions to make the perfect chewy rice. Her cheese katsu was cheesy soft inside, crunchy outside. Well balanced w dark japanese katsu sauce. Today we expected a lot about this new katsu restaurant. Last week, Japanese Mitsuwa Cypress finally opened near our home. We tried Tokyo katsu on the grand opening day. Disappointed!!! Their katsu was so tiny, only 4 slices just like kid's meal w high price, no service at all inside Mitsuwa marketplace food court. That is why we looked for the new real, high quality of katsu restaurant around Buena Park, Fullerton. We complained about the rice at the end of our brunch. Hopefully the manager and the kitchen crew team can fix the issue soon. We want to go back to try the katsu soon. Can we eat the fully cooked flavorful rice next time????? Good location and quality for the katsu specialty. The other competitors are Yoko katsu, katsu restaurant in the Zion mall. Had dinner at this new katsu spot and it's definitely worth a visit! The katsu was perfectly crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside and it's just absolutely delicious. They also offer soba and udon, which makes it a great place whether you're craving something crispy or comforting. The portions are generous, and everything tastes fresh and well-prepared. It looks like this place hasn't been open for very long, so I wanted to give it a fair try. When I walked in, I received a cup of ice water within about five minutes, but there was no greeting at all. The restaurant was quiet, but the service still felt a bit unorganized. For a place where staff depend on tips, basic manners when customers arrive or leave are important. As for the food, the rice was hard and difficult to eat, and the cabbage slaw was tough, so I couldn't finish it. Some of the Korean-inspired side dishes were a nice idea, but they felt more like kids' snacks rather than proper sides. I think with better staff training and more attention to the basics, this place has potential as they continue to settle in. read more

This katsu place is new and I heard a lot of hype around it so I wanted to check it out. I came with a larger party so the wait was a lot longer, but they were extremely accommodating and on top of their work. I was shocked that there was no automatic tip included for larger parties because we had 17 people and normally restaurants have automatic gratuity so that was a plus. The food itself was pretty good, I got the curry katsu and it was pretty filling, tender, and well balanced. This was the first katsu place where the katsu came with a mushroom soup rather than miso. I personally liked it but some people in my group weren't the biggest fans of it. Thought we'd try this place on a whim. Got the 88 Jumbo Tonkatsu. It was phenomenal. Spectacular sauce, generously covering the plate. Oh, when they say JUMBO they mean. Easily feeds one extremely hungry person or two less hungry people. 10/10 flavor, portion and value/price. Service was spectacular. Chris was serving us as part of a team. We had water almost before we sat down, food came out piping hot and fast and Chris was thoughtful enough to drop off a bit of Spicy Tonkatsu sauce for us to try at the end--and I'm glad he did. Not too spicy, just enough to feel a nice warm flavor. I will forever be ordering the spicy sauce in the future. And right at the perfect time Chris brought the check. Not too early, not letting us wait. Exactly as the thought formed in my mind I was ready for the check, there it was. Quick tap to lay and I was gone. If you want excellent food and table side service fitting of a full sit down restaurant but at the speed and convince of a lunch break, this is it. We'll be back for sure! I actually came here back in October 2025, and I'm not sure if they were still trying to figure out operations as they seemed fairly new at the time. I got the 88 tonkatsu and my friend got the curry katsu. While the tonkatsus were thick and juicy, my soup came out lukewarm (friend's came out much hotter than mine) and parts of the curry sauce from my friend's plate were cold. The flavors were good, but we were caught off guard as to why/how only certain parts of our dish were cold. Other than that, we were seated quickly and food came out pretty quick. It would be a nice place to go to for a nice weekend dinner, IMO. read more

Let me introduce you to my Japanese neighborhood gem for insanely crispy and juicy katsu. Honestly a lot of spots around here are hit or miss but I LOVE this spot. Famous for their Japanese fried katsu that's crispy without being greasy and meat that's tender and juicy, this spot is one of the few that have also mastered the curry sauce. I prefer to pour my curry over rice and theirs is actually more of a meat sauce and goes down SO well with rice. Don't sleep on their udon either. I was craving a good Japanese katsu. Saw the instagram reviews. So I decided to give it a try. It is a clean and unique environment. Relaxed and comfortable. We ordered from desktop machines. It is easy to operate but if you have any questions. The waiter is there to help. Fish katsu is delicious. It is not grease. Exactly what I like. We will definitely go back again. read more
New fav katsu spot! Genuinely loved it so much that my fiance and i found ourselves craving it again within the same wk. We ordered the regular 88 katsu, spicy katsu, & udon. All are so good. Their katsu is super soft and flavorful. The sauce is unique from all the other options around here. We love yoko but this became our new fav! I love the wasabi & salt that also comes with it because it adds a new flavor / way to eat it. Spicy sauce is also sooooo good. We get it on the side to dip & it's not a crazy spice. Udon is also rly good. We both wished it came out a bit more hot bc it was a bit lukewarm but flavor was rly on point. Have yet to try the soba noodles but we'll definitely be back soon to try it! Inside is rly spacious & clean. Service is super fast & staff seems always rly nice & helpful. Definitely think it's worth a visit. read more

I believe this is a fairly new plaza that lots of korean restaurants are occupying. Lots of parking, nearby shopping. My friend and I came here to try out the Jumbo Tonkatsu. The Katsu was huge! It had a sweet ketchup sauce over it. The cabbage salad with the dressing was light and refreshing. The rice was a bit dry but the ban chans were great. I got the Kitsune Noodle as something light, the broth is on the sweeter end and I liked the additional of red pepper flakes on the side to add some heat. The fish cakes were solid, wished it came with more. Service was great, our food was handled by a robot which was cool. Tables were clean and lots of natural light. Restroom were clean. read more

Came in for a weekend lunch and was able to get seated fairly quickly without a reservation. You order through a tablet on the table, where there's a full menu with pictures and descriptions of each item. We got the original 88 Tonkatsu, Cheese Tonkatsu, Spicy Tonkatsu, and the Swai Fish Katsu. The original tonkatsu was decent - it was a good portion but I think the thickness of the cut contributed to some dryness. Cheese Tonkatsu had a nice and thick oozing layer of cheese, though that's basically most of the dish, as the actual meat portion was quite small. Spicy Tonkatsu was better than the original with the spicy sauce they use. My favorite was the Swai Fish Katsu - nice and crispy on the outside with tender, flaky fish on the inside. They all came with a bowl of rice, side of miso soup and salad, and a couple of other small side dishes. Good service, and lots of parking at a huge shopping center where it's located at. read more

We ordered: UDON- The broth was super Salty UDON WHERE YOU DIP it- this was better then the udon in the broth CHEESE KATSU- this is was ok for me JUMBO PORK KATSU- this was my favorite out of all of them. Could've easily been shared CHICKEN KATSU- I wasn't a fan, but the hubs liked this more than the pork -It came with 2 sauces.. It was just ok. -The cabbage salad it came with was good but very drippy - our server was nice. - I wasn't the biggest fan of placing the order the screen at the end of the table but I see that's what people do these days? - music was also too loud for me - usually Korean places have cold and hot water.. they didn't have hot water for my in laws I would come back for To Gos.. for their jumbo pork katsu read more

I came here with a friend but didn't realize that it was their grand opening the weekend we went. The food was pretty good. I got their spicy katsu with the sauce on the side. The katsu was tender and crispy on the outside. I loved their spicy sauce. It's honestly not that spicy though. They have wasabi and salt on the side to put on the katsu. I actually really enjoyed it and felt like it enhanced the taste. I recommend getting the spicy katsu and I would probably order the same next time. read more
Everything here is delicious. The katsu is so tender and has the perfect lightly crispy exterior. The regular katsu comes with katsu sauce and (I think) thousand island sauce. You can also get spicy katsu, which is just the regular katsu with spicy sauce, or curry sauce with your katsu. I think that one portion is very big - too big for me, at least. I would recommend sharing an order of katsu with someone else and ordering a noodle dish for yourself. They have kitsune udon and cold soba, which are both very good as well. Service is mostly self-service as you order yourself on the tablets, but the workers are nice too. The restaurant is very casual and located in a plaza with other restaurants. Came to this new katsu place after seeing this on social media. It's relatively new so I think they're still working out some of the kinks but the food was really good! The katsu was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The cheese katsu had a lot of cheese compared to the meat, but it wasn't overpowering. The zaru soba was really flavorful. The noodles had a smooth texture and the dipping broth was really refreshing with deep umami flavor. I came on a Friday night, and the wait was about an hour (took longer than expected because the waitlist estimated about 20-30 minutes so I would keep that in mind if you go in the evening). However, once we were seated, ordering was really quick because they have tablets at every table and the food came out really fast after that. been wanting to try 88 katsu after seeing a bunch of reels! one big tip is put your name on the yelp waitlist before you get there because the wait is long during a saturday. i waited around one hour and then another 30 mins after ordering my food. every table has a tablet to order, the menu is straightforward and not too extensive. i got the 88 donkatsu! not sure what the sauces are but it's nice that there's two options. i like how the katsu piece isn't flat as you can def see how thick the slice is, however, the pork is kinda bland. i understand that it'll be dipped into sauce but the katsu could use more seasoning. the breading is okay, it's flaky but not as crispy as other donkatsu places. overall, not sure if i would go again but glad i got to try it! read more
Newly opened located in Fullerton with plenty of parking. We waited about 20 minutes on a Friday night. It's clean and modern and a decent size. You order on a table that is attached to your table. Glad this place opened so close! Busy but not too bad when we went. However, the wait time got longer when we were done and leaving. The staff were attentive and friendly. Self order at the table. The menu is simple with pictures of the food. There are other katsu places in the area, but with inflation and it being expensive, didn't think it was worth it. However, I was surprised at how good it was that I've already recommended this place to friends. I got the katsu with spicy sauce on the side and it was delicious! It also comes with wasabi and sea salt which enhances the flavor of the pork katsu. Although it is a thicker cut of pork, I thought it was chicken because it was so moist and tender. My husband got the chicken katsu with curry. Curry is an add on with the chicken but with pork the extra charge isn't as much. However, since my husband can't eat pork, we asked if we can order the pork katsu with curry and replace the pork with chicken (since it cost more for chicken and curry). They were happy to help and do that since my husband can't eat pork. Portions are big. They give you more than Yoko and Joonkatsu. Can't wait to go back soon! read more

Delicious new katsu spot in Fullerton! We tried the jumbo katsu with a side of curry and wow! Their sauce was amazing. It was a creamy tomato sauce that I haven't had on katsu before but tasted great. Curry was tasty too but the sauce served is already great. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was amazing katsu- I recommend getting JUMBO because it's enough for 2 people. Crispy on the outside and it comes with a katsu sauce on top that is not too overpowering. On the side is small radish and pickles. The udon has a very nice taste as well but it's only for one person. 4.2 Stars! 88 Katsu have tender Chicken Katsu. The white meat was not dry. The flakey panko breadcrumbs was crunchy and not oily. The tonkatsu dipping sauce was pretty good. The curry sauce was okay, I didn't like it that much. Ambiance was simple and clean. I like the tablet on the table to order, it was convenient for me to order. Service was easy going. Ask for extra tonkatsu sauce and it was brought to the table. My friend had the pork katsu, it was thick pieces and he liked it a lot. Pricing adds up when u add the curry to the entree. I think it was $2-3 too much for my meal. Overall I would come back again. I would recommend this place to others. read more
We were quickly seated down even though it was busy. I tried the jumbo katsu with curry. I asked for two small plates. The food arrived fairly quickly. My significant other and I shared. It was enough for both of us. The katsu comes with kimchi, broth, jalapeño rice and coleslaw. Very nice and pleasant place to eat at that I really enjoyed. You order the food yourself with the screen at your table--but the service was all very friendly and easy to call over if you needed anything. I ended up ordering their Katsu Don and it was really tasty, next time I go I would like to try out their normal Katsu dishes too. Great portion sizes for what you're paying for, and a great place to relax either by yourself or with a friend. read more

First time here bc I was craving donkatsu. The donkatsu meat quality left more to desire, although the spicy donkatsu quality was a bit better. The sauces were interesting. The regular sauce was ok but I did not like the spicy one. The soups were also mid. I also noticed that service seems slow, with servers not rushing to clear tables. The place is ok but I would likely not come again and go to Yoko, Hako, or go to LA for La Sung. read more
Came on a weekday lunch and was seated right away. The inside is spacious and service was warm and prompt. Every table has a tablet you can order from. Got the curry katsu and spicy katsu. The katsu for both was super tender, moist, and perfectly crispy. Loved the spicy sauce you can dip the katsu in (has a slight kick). Also loved the side soup that comes with the katsu (tastes similar to galbitang broth). Minus a star because it's a bit pricy and the day we went, the rice was really stale and hard.
