I have been to a couple self-serve ramen shops and this one always has me coming back. It's much more than just an instant ramen shop, they also have a wide selection of fresh prepared foods such as ubus, onigiri, and cupbops. The ramen + ubu combo is my go to and you can't go wrong with the fresh salmon ubu. The salmon is seasoned perfectly and it goes so well with the wasabi on top, it's a nice fresh pairing to go with the ramen! There is also a wide variety of drinks to try as well as ice cream, my only wish is that they added the Korean ade drinks + ice cups! It is a tiny shop with a couple tables and counters to sit at, we have never had a problem finding seating. This is a very small shop next to the tattoo and barbershop on harbor boulevard. I came here while my bf was getting a tattoo. They have plenty of options, but was recommended the Ubus by the artist at the shop. I decided to get a crab meat and a salmon one. The girl at the front was very nice and patient with me while I decided what I wanted. The Ubus came out pretty quick in a cute packaging with napkins and chopsticks. My favourite was the crab meat one but the salmon was also very good with some seasoning that was absorbed by the rice on the bottom making it very tasty! Ordered through the Yelp app from here. I was having a late lunch and had dinner plans and tried a chicken teriyaki ubu and a salmon ubu. Each one was $7.19 and they were good but not filling. I would recommend this for a light snack where you leave feeling like you respected your body's wishes for not overeating or eating junk food on your lunch break. It delicious and it's just enough, but for $7.19 you could get more elsewhere, especially if you're feeling super hungry. Parking is located behind the store, but you have to walk all the way around to the front of the store to enter. There's no entrance in the back. This place also sells Asian or Korean & Japanese snacks and they have ramen stations where you can buy a pack of ramen noodles and make it right there in the store. read more

After paying, you walk over to the hot water station and open up the ramen, pour in the seasonings / sauces, and then add some hot water. I came with someone who just wanted the ramen how it was and did not add any additional toppings so I am not even sure what they have available. Apart from ramen they also have other snacks and even some frozen sweet treats. We ordered the 5-piece special -- fresh salmon, eel, two spicy tuna, and crab -- and everything was super fresh! Honestly one of the ubu I've tried in SoCal. We also got the bulgogi sandwich and wow... total hidden gem! So flavorful and surprisingly filling. The staff were super nice too. Really enjoyed this small spot off Harbor blvd. The 5 for $25 Inari deal was really attractive and everything tasted so good! We shared the Eel, tuna, and buldak chicken inari, they were pretty huge. Five pieces were more than enough for 2 people to share. The eel was definitely the standout, melts in your mouth. The instant ramen selection is quite extensive. It's fun to pick out your own and use the cooker to make your own, my wife liked that a lot. There's limited seating, so it may get a little crowded, but lunchtime wasn't too bad. This place was delicious! My friends and I stopped by here after going Axe throwing next door. We were all pretty hungry and were delighted to find a yummy looking restaurant within walking distance. It seems to be a new(ish) spot & family owned. The cashier was really nice and what seemed to be either the owner/ manager was very nice too. He was very smiley & accommodating. It does take a little bit for the food to come out but my friends and I were busy talking to really notice. The wait was worth it though, the food was so good! Just checked out Ubu Ubu in downtown Fullerton - a small cute shop next to the pub. The staff and owner were super nice, explaining their menu and how carefully they prepare their dishes, especially the tteokbokki. This place is perfect for sharing different dishes with friends. I got the ramyun, spicy buldak onigiri, tamago and salmon ubu. The ramyun is cooked right at the store, and goes perfectly with the ubu and onigiri!! After trying yubu at another spot, I was excited to see that this place opened up closer to me. This cute little shop is located in downtown Fullerton, with a large parking lot behind it. Here you can order yubu pockets, kimbap, make your own ramen, or grab some fruit sandos. I tried the salmon yubu and spicy tuna yubu. The salmon tasted fresh and mixed well with the sweet yubu pockets. The spicy tuna is similar quality to spicy tuna you'd find in a sushi roll. Both had a fairly strong kick to them, which I ended up realizing was due to a bit of wasabi put on top. I'm not a huge fan of wasabi so it was a bit off putting for me. If I were to order it again, I'd probably ask for no wasabi. The service is friendly and everything about the ordering process was easy. There are some seats here if you wanted to dine in or you can easily order and take it togo. Pricing is pretty standard for the area that it's in -- I think it's about $4-6 per yubu. read more

A fun little spot off Harbor (& Commonwealth). Love the little snack, ramen, and drink options though probably not the healthiest. Came for the ubu and I was pleasantly surprised. Ordered fresh lemon salmon, eel, and sukiyaki beef. I would say size-wise, it's equivalent to eating 3 pieces of sushi? The fresh salmon was my favorite. Plenty of fish, bright and creamy. It had lightly seared edges too. The eel was made of fresh smokey cubes and lightly coated in sauce. The beef was probably my least favorite as the meat itself was slightly warm and the bbq made it a little too sweet for me. What a FUN place to eat! U-by U-bu is one of those fun Asian eateries you always see on Instagram posted by some tourist in Japan/Korea/Taiwan, and never think you'll ever get to try in person. Well, this is one Reel you get to try, and have a blast doing it! Located in downtown Fullerton, just 45 mins away from my Santa Monica home, U-bu (x2) is the type of place you wish you frequented as a teenager, so you instead bring your teen kids, under the guise of chaperoning, when in reality it's all about you. Yep, the adult playground diner, but Asian style. The ramen concept is simple. Just pick a ramen pack from their wall, get a cardboard bowl, bring it to their induction machine, and 3 minutes later, you have your ramen. It's just fun to do, and for some reason, the kids find it such a novelty (my 22 yr old son made me come here twice!). Beyond ramen, there is also a wide selection of Japan-7-Eleven type snacks, not just chips, but Kimbap rolls and Onigiri, as well as all the popular Asian beverages. My favorite, though, was the Ubu selection. If you've never had it before, Ubu (aka inari) is what I would describe as the Japanese equivalent of a soft taco. The soft tofu skin serves as the "taco" and is filled with sweet sushi rice, and topped with spicy tuna, unagi, or salmon. They had a whole menu selection. So if ramen is too adolescent for you, the grownups will enjoy the Ubu. Fun ambience, and while it isn't gourmet, it's a fantastic combo of fun and tasty. My friend and I decided to try this place out to grab a quick snack after visiting the Soul Real Market a few blocks down. The line wasn't long and we got our orders quickly. I got the creamy spicy tuna and it was soo good! The portions are actually larger than expected but I'd recommend getting 2 for 1 person. U-bu U-bu brings a bit more of the Korean food culture to Fullerton but in a refreshingly more casual manner: it has water dispensers made for heating up ramen, incredibly fresh kimbaps, and what I sincerely think are seriously the best yubus (Korean inari) I've had for tens of miles around and maybe more. My wife and I are particularly fond of the minced chicken kimbaps which are minced so finely you think you're eating minced tuna. We also love the lemon fresh salmon ubu as it's fresh and tart in all the right ways...just as is how the sukiyaki beef ubu is marinated just right. I wasn't even that big of a fan of yubu before going into this store and I definitely prefer it over more "hip" yubu establishments. The store also has a good amount of munchies and drinks for sale too and a pretty darn good egg sando! To be honest, I'm kinda surprised U-bu U-bu isn't open later at weekend nights to take advantage of the buzzed and inebriated Downtown Fullerton crowd. Food was tasty and the environment and service were great, the only hesitation is the price at $6 per piece! Atoyobu in Buena Park is cheaper and has some equally delicious items. They have have a wall of snacks and dried ramen packages. If you select ramen they have bowls and hot water dispensers to prepare on site. We came for the rice and protein wraps, and enjoyed (in order) the Spicy Pork, Bulgogi, Salmon Lemon Pepper, and Egg. If there is sauce in it then it will be delicious, which both the spicy pork and bulgogi both had. Strong flavor from sauce, on top of tender protein, with some slightly sweetened rice unearth, all wrapped up with egg. The egg version was light and fluffy, but lacked a dominant flavor. The light lemon and pepper sauce let the high quality of salmon show through. read more

I originally came to visit this spot in hopes of getting kimbap but I was told the ownership changed not too long ago, which reflected some changes to the menu. Either way, I still wanted to give this place a try as they had other great Korean food options! I ordered the bulgogi cupbap and it was made very quickly. I did visit during the weekend so it explains why this place was very slow as it lies between other busy bars and restaurants. I found the ramen station to be a nice touch to this shop as it resembles the concept of eating ramen by the Han River in Korea, hence the name hangang ramen (한강라면) Personally, this added extra brownie points for me and Im sure it does for those that have also ate ramen next to the Han River in the past! Overall, I think this place is worth visiting if you are interested in the concept of making your own ramen and enjoying other things such as Ubu and the Cupbap! In terms of what I had, it was tasty and very much down my alley of comfort foods. However, despite the notable quality that the bulgogi cupbap presented, I think this place is a little bit pricey, which is why I chose to opt for just one item for now. If you want around the downtown Fullerton area and are looking for a quiet place to enjoy Korean food, this spot is worth checking out! read more

The ubu contained a lot of rice compared to protein ratio. The yubu tasted very basic, no sauce was on the salmon and only spicy mayo on the tuna yubu. I was disappointed in the lack of sauce/flavor considering its price. The restaurant also offered instant ramen where you can pay for toppings. Happy Soft Grand Opening! Walked in and was greeted with friendly faces. They have snacks and ice cream for sale. They have hot water dispensers for pre-packaged ramen. They have some "to-go" items to grab if you're on the run. The inside was clean, but very little seating. All of the "bombs" (as I call them) were super tasty. Today was their first official day they are open and the staff is really nice and explained the soft opening is 25% entire menu for the entire month. I would classify this somewhere between a sit down restaurant and a convenience store cause most of the stuff are already made before hand to accommodate the fast pace of life and easy to grab a go. I didn't take a picture of the ubu display because it was already near end of day so there won't be too much waste but I was still able to order from the full menu. I got these ubu: crab meat with chimichurri sauce, creamy spicy tuna, eel, bulgogi, and sukiyaki beef. I also got a fishcake kimbob. The food overall was good quality being that a few of the items I chose which was on display so I can't determine what time of day the ubu or kimbob may have been made. Some of them hold out flavor wise better than others. The imitation crab meat with chimichurri sauce was pretty good. The bulgogi and sukiyaki were our favorites overall and the kimbob was ok so definitely. Will definitely come back to take advantage of the soft opening deal since it's cheaper than the other place I've tried and this is closer to home.
